Power Pivot - Calculating Exchange Rates depending on MONTH

Hello everyone, I have a question, would like to know if someone can help me figuring out a solution. I have created a spreadsheet using powerquery and powerpivot. Loading the data on powerquery from different spreadsheets was a charm, the problem is calculating
the exchange rates per month. Let me try to explain better;
The structure is as following:
I have 3 tables, they are:
Dates– Just a dates (loaded directly on PowerPivot).
Invoice – Details of invoices for all customers, gross totals are in different rates (loaded through power query)
Customer – Detailed information of customers (loaded directly on PowerPivot).
Currency – exchange rates (loaded directly on PowerPivot).
Note: I mentioned where they were loaded because I do not know if that really matters, I guess it does not... but extra information will not hurt. Now, let's go to how these tables are connected between each other and their key columns:
The Invoice table has information on invoices dates, invoice gross total and customer code. This table is related to Customer table, which has the actual name of customers and other details. This link is done through the Customer Code column. The Currency
table have a relationship with the Customer Table through the Country Column.
What I want to achieve is a formula to do the exchange rate based on the Invoice Date column present on the Invoice Table. So I have created a column on the Currency Table named at each month of the year and populated it with the exchange rates for all countries
(countries listed using ISO3 format).
My problem is while I am able to select a column from the Currency table to do the exchange rate calculation using the below formula, I fail to realize how to do it per month:
=CALCULATE(sum(invoice[Gross Value])*SUM(Currency[Reverse]))
*Reverse is the column with the exchange rate for the country money to USD
What I am failing to do is how to make that calculation to also consider the month of the invoice and pull the exchange rate for the same month from the Currency table… something like:
Get the invoice date then find the column on Currency[Month] and multiply, providing me the USD amount.
I was unable to figure out a solution using the filters parameters from Calculate. If some of you ask why I am using SUM inside Calculate, is because if I only use SUM and try to do the math between the two tables I get an error saying that it was not possible
to determine the value on Currency[Reverse]. Same happens with SUMX. It worked out with Calculate, but then I cannot create other formulas using CALCULATE on that table because it will give that error on redundancy, unless I add a filter on it, which worked
last time (but I do not remember which thing /parameter used to filter, so do not ask it right now :D)
To be honest… I do not really need that level of accuracy, but my Virgo perfectionist side demands me to find a solution to that, that will not use a single exchange rate, but consider which is the correct exchange rate for the month of the invoice and calculate
it correctly for all invoices. Just so you know, the Invoices tables has more than 1million lines.
Anyone know how to crack this problem or can point me to some site where I can learn how to do it?
Thanks for the time reading all of this, even if you cannot help, I really appreciate it ;)

Hi Estevao,
Having problems to understand how you managed to combine your currency table with the customer table by Country ID. Where’s the 1-side of this relation (many customers in the same country and many months for the same currency)?
Anyway: Seeing that you already use Power Query, I’d suggest that you prepare your data in a way that you can connect your currency table with your invoice table instead of with your customer table. Create a field in your Invoice Table
that concatenates Customers CountryID&Month.

  • Calculating exchange rate in formula

    This is trying to calculate based on rates stored in the RATEDB2 db.IF (@ISMBR(USD) OR @ISMBR(CAD))      Base_Amt=Tran_Amt * @XREF (RATEDB2,Conv_Rate); ELSE      Base_Amt = Base_Amt; ENDIF;It does nothing.

Do the blocks for the two UDA's already exist in your main database (not the XREF database)? Is this a dense calculation? If they do not exist, and this is a dense calculation, you will never be able to force it to exist on the fly. To test - you can find a valid intersection of data - and lock and send 0's to one of the stored measures - then run your calc or hit refresh if it is dynamic. If values appear - this is your issue. And you will have to go about it another way.

  • Exchange Rate Billing documents

    Dear Friends,
In SAP billing process; I am facing the problem with the exchange rate. as the rates picked in the sales order as default exchange rates maintained for the day; if the sales order is MTO and goods will dispatched after 2 months and within these 2 month the exchange rate got floated by a large amount and during the billing with VF01 t-code; the exchange rate will be something else; and I canu2019t change it at that instance also.
The billing document will be posted to the accounting after getting the money from the customer and the exchange rate will become something else at this moment also; and make a large difference of amount at this instance. Is there is any provision in sap system so that I can change the exchange rate in the billing document and with this same exchange rate I can post the entries in accounting also. It will solve the problem as it will give me the billing amount in exact LC amount also.
Please provide the solution for the same.
    Kraheja

    Good Afternoon,
In the billing document there are 3 exchange rates, please review:
    - VBRP-KURSK
Exchange Rate for the conversion Loc.currency <-> Doc.currency.
      for Price Determination
The determination of this exchange rate depends on the setting
      of TVCPFLP-PFKUR in customizing copy-control
    - VBRK-KURRF.
Exchange Rate for the conversion Loc.currency <-> Doc.currency.
      for FI postings
If there is a manual entry in the sales order field VBKD-KURRF
(Goto -> Header -> Accounting), then it is copied into VBRK-KURRF.
Otherwise VBRK-KURRF is determined during invoice creation.
It is supposed that manual entry has higher priority.
      See the OSS note 36070.
    - KOMV-KKURS
Exchange Rate for the conversion Cond.currency <-> Loc.currency
      at price condition level.
It is always determined according to the Pricing date.
See the OSS notes 92613, 97487.
During VF01 the system determines the Exchange rate for FI posting
VBRK-KURRF from the currency tables according(OB08) to the billing date
only if the field Exchange rate for FI posting is empty in the
    source sales document (VBKD-KURRF).
If the sales document has this field filled, manually or copied from
a reference invoice (by copy control routine), then it is copied
in the subsequent billing document. This is the standard working
    of the system.
The exchange rate should be based on your configuration in copy control
(VTFA or VTFL) at the item category level.  The choices you have are as
    follows:
    Pricing Exhange Rate Type (V_TVCPFLP-PFKUR)
    A  Copy from sales order
B  Price exchange rate = Accouting rate
C  Exchange rate determination according to billing date
D  Exchange rate determination according to pricing date
E  Exchange rate determination according to current date
F  Exch.rate determination accord.to date of services rendered
I hope you find this information very helpful and hopefully it will solve your problem.

  • Exchange Rate difference in Balance Sheet-Revaluation in Foreign Currency

    Hi
I wanted more clarification on the Exchange rate difference the system calculates when we generate a balance sheet and revalue at a fixed rate. The system does not give a breakup of the echange rate calculated. How do we arrive at the exchange rate.
And after having the exchange rate entries posted in the system. Can the system the show these values in the Balance sheet after Revaluation
    Regards

    Dear Gordan
Below mentioned is  the balance sheet which is Revaluated in Euro(System Currency)at a Fixed Rate of 1.42.
at the end of this report we can see that the system has calculated Exchange rate difference as Euro -66483.03 .We want a break up of that amount which is calculated by the system

Currency translation is done in query with a variable.
    I tried the following solutions:
1.transfer Exchange rates from source systems Via Program :RSIMPCURR
2.I checked in Table TCURR and there exists a exchange rates between CAD to USD.
3.I checked TCODE: RSCUR the variable exists and created properly.
4.I searched through forums but none of them present a clear solution.

So check in OB08 which gives the overview of Currency Exchange Rates for each month.Check what is the exchange rate maintained for the months u r looking into.
Else ask the users what exchange rates they maintained for those months and upload the exchange rates for those months.
Here is the link which will explain how to load the exhange rates.

  • Message appears at time of query results: NO EXCHANGE RATE FROM

I am executing  query using a new currency translation type  "ZPERAVG". Variable time reference is defined on End of period for 0FISCPER with exchange rate M1 (Monthly Average).  Tested successfully. Purpose is to represent monthly values at differing monthly conversion rates.  When I employ this object in existing queries I am getting informational messages as follow:
NO EXCHANGE RATE FROM EUR to USD and Date 01/31/2004. This repeats 23 other time for periods to 12/31/2005. My TCURR table does not include these M1 conversions. First period is 01/31/2006. Is there a way around this nuisance message. It will only confuse the user community.
A second information message also may occur: Error occurred during currency .... however, results appear correct.
I have no explanation as to why these random messages appear.

You will have to upate TCURR with monthly average exchange rates for each month starting with January 2004 and going through December 2005, for conversion from Euros to US Dollars. The error being thrown is truly an error because the system is unable to calculate the conversion due to no exchange rate being available for the timeframe.

  • Exchange Rate Formula

    Hi,
My company uses Hyperion. We have 7 different currencies across 18 markets so rolling up our numbers into a reporting currency can be complicated. After pleading with our business control team they finally explained the monthly reporting formula whereby for a given month it takes the total value in local currency to the last reported month multiplied by the average reporting currency exchange rate to that month. This is followed by the same process for the current month using the year to date ave. exchange rate and then subtracting the two to get the actual reported number (who came up with this I wonder).
Anyway, now I am looking at the year budget and the formula is not working. Looking on some forums I can see that Hyperion has 'planning' and 'target' options and I guess we are using a different formula for the budget.
Can anyone point me in the direction of these formulae so that I can do some planning in excel and avoid having to wait for business control to plug everything into Hyperion before I get a new budget number!
Thanks a million to anyone who can help.
    Gavin

    Hi,
I cannot say I completely understood about the method used for conversion, but it's evident that the conversion rule must be modified for it to meet the requirement. It's always better to go back to whoever built this application in the first place and ask them to make the modification. Or if you have a Planning/Essbase administrator, they should be skilled enough to apply the logic. Unfortunately changing the currency conversion rule in Planning is not a user task, therefore should be handled by an admin/developer.
    Cheers,

  • Exchange rate variances between Primary and Secondary Ledger

We have a little problem on our hands.....we are implementing dual ledgers with dynamic posting, primary in Canadian Dollar and secondary in USD.
Exchange rate variances would occur if for example, we consider material transactions at different points in time. We would have no problems in the primary. However, CAD to USD exchange rates are updated monthly and very likely, rates would change month to month. Therefore, exchange rate variances would happen frequently in the secondary ledger.
We have been asked by senior management how these variances would be handled by EBS. Just wondering if you have ideas though we are looking into the accounting events in SLA.
    Thanks,
    Sanjib

If the requirement was to maintain balance in USD and Canadian dollar, You can use the Reporting currency option instead of Secondary ledger.

    <b>
I am getting this message for only 4 months i.e March April,May,June but rest of months its fine.</b>
Currency translation is done in query with a variable.
    I tried the following solutions:
1.transfer Exchange rates from source systems Via Program :RSIMPCURR
2.I checked in Table <b>TCURR</b> and there exists a exchange rates between CAD to USD.
3.I checked TCODE:  RSCUR the variable exists and created properly.
4.I searched through forums but none of them present a clear solution.
<b>SO can somebody help me to solve this error ,its very urgent</b>
    null

So check in OB08 which gives the overview of Currency Exchange Rates for each month.Check what is the exchange rate maintained for the months u r looking into.
Else ask the users what exchange rates they maintained for those months and upload the exchange rates for those months.
Here is the link which will explain how to load the exhange rates.

  • Exchange Rate Type R - Closing Exchange Rate

    Hello Experts,
I am current developing ABAP AP Aging reports.  I would like to ask what is the reason for defining Exchange Rate Type (R) - month end exchange rate instead of using the Standard Average Rate M.
    Thanks in advance.

For exchange rate type R, you maintain month-end exchange rates in OB08 and revalue the foreign currency open items (AR & AP) and foreign currency balance sheet items into your local currency at the month-end rate.  You daily transactions during the month are posted using the M rate.  It is necessary to revalue the items I mentioned above at the month-end rate and report.

  • RE: Exchange rate update

    Hi all,
At the company I am working with currently, they update the exchange rate thrice a month. As a result, they Valuate the PL accounts at the end of the month with the average rate. I do not think this is a good process.
So I wanted to know as to what are the best business practices for Foreign Exchage valuation.
As PL accounts are not normally valuated at the month end closing, what would be the changes required to this process for PL accounts.
    Thank you.

    Sunil,
I really appreciate you taking the imte to respond to my queries.
If I am understanding your response correctly:
    1. As they are not maintaining the FX rates everyday, they should carry out month end valuation of PL items through F.05 and FASB52 screen
    2. Even PL items should be reversed at the start of next month just like the Balance Sheet and OI's
I was a bit confused because in every documentation for FV vaouation it says Balance sheet and OI's and nowhere it mention that you should do it for PL items too.
Also, do you think we could do Balance sheet items, OI's and PL items in one sigle valuation run batch process.  Or it done separately for PL items .
    Thank you once again Sunil.

    Hi srikanth,
It is not daily exchange rate.
Actually we copied PS LCR RA key to PS IAS.
PS LCR is working fine and it is picking correctly for the respective months.
Where as In PS IAS it is taking starting month and same continuing for other consecutive months.
    Regards,
    Mohan
