PowerPivot supported Data Sources [Oracle]

Reading about
Supported data sources in Office help page I see:
'.NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle Client'
Does this refers to Oracle's ODP.NET Managed dll?
I succesfully installed Oracle's managed dll with xcopy/deployment [platform: both] [machine wide:true] but trying to create a connection with the wizard in PowerPivot ('Get External Data' -> 'From Other Sources' -> 'Oracle' -> 'Advanced' ->
'Oracle Data Provider for .Net') I still see in the connection string textbox the following message:
'Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider. It may not be installed'
I'd wish to connect from a Windows 7 x64 pro with Office ProPlus 2013 x86 (without installing the complete Oracle Client and hopefully no TNSNAMES) to some tables from a remote Oracle Db server.
Thanks in advance for any info
Marco

Thank you Ed for your kind attention, still working on this though I found a couple workarounds...
It looks like the .NET provider Excel/PP UI refers to is still the deprecated System.Data.OracleClient stuff, am I right?
Btw I think my OP still partially make sense, so I'll try to elaborate a bit.
As Excel/PP UI is (was?) able to let final user interact with a managed assembly/provider is there any way to use official Oracle ODP.Net driver instead?
I know that installing Oracle Client everything could work with Oracle
OLEDB Provider.
I know how to write code in a VSTO Excel solution using Oracle managed access .NET Provider to connect to db server data
without installing Oracle Client and without TNSNAMES but how to let final PP user being able to create a data connection through fully managed code, using only 'Get external Data' wizard through PP?
My first class target is still about being able to deploy Excel/PP personalized BI solutions to Oracle power users without having to install and configure Oracle client.
Is this possible?

  • 2 data sources (oracle db) for the same report

    Hi
I was wondering if I can have 2 sources (could be same or different instances). Example, I want to get information from one instance in the report trigger, and output of that i pass to the report (inside the query in the where clause). Is this possible with Oracle reports?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thx!

    Hi Dan
    Thanks for the response.
I need some information (in before report trigger) - from one oracle instance - and then pass this information as a parameter to the report - whose output will come from another oracle instance.
I haven't given it a try yet what you had recommended but will do so.
    Thx!

  • The schedule in Power BI report refresh error with the powerpivot or powerview with SQL Analysis services as data source

In the Power BI Admin Centre, the data sources that cannot be setup with Analysis services, and it has the error to schedule the powerpivot or powerview report to have data refresh. The error is "我們無法重新整理此報表中的資料來源種類。" - english, "We
can not rearrange the source of information in this report types ." We would like to know the power bi schedule function can support SQL analysis service or not. Please advise. Thanks.

It is not currently supported. You might be able to create a linked server in SQL to be a proxy for the connection and enable scheduled refresh if you are desperate.

  • CrystalReports error in XI 3.1 with Oracle Data Source

Having trouble running Crystal Reports with Oracle data source off XI 3.1 SP3. Reports hang through CMC or InfoView. Have no trouble on identical environment (presumably) with the same reports. Basically this happened after migration.
Report can be run on designer on the server box (suggesting the connection is good) however once uploaded to CMS, it hangs with error. This is not about an specific report only reports with Oracle Data source (Oracle client already installed and connection established)
    Any comments appreciated.

    Thank you for your reply.
Seems like a re-boot resolved the problem.

  • SAP HANA as a data source for Analysis Services

I tried to use SAP's .net provider for HANA as a data source for an Analysis Services cube but to no avail.   I can connect, create a named query and preview data from the data source view designer but when SSAS actually tries to run the query,
it wraps the named query in another query and produces a syntax error.
For example,  if the named query is "select * from ENTHANA.MARA",
SSAS sends a query like this "SELECT [test].* FROM (select * from ENTHANA.MARA) AS [test]"   (Test is the name of the named query).
I know SSAS wraps queries and that's fine - except that brackets are not a valid way to quote an identifier in HANA.  HANA uses double quotes like Oracle.
Is there any setting in SSAS that can affect this behavior?   Will HANA ever be a fully supported data source for SSAS?  If so, when?

    Hi David,
According to your description, you are creating a SQL Server Analysis Services project, now what you want is using SAP HANA as the data source, right?
SSAS support many type of data source. However, as you can see on the link below, SAP HANA data source was not listed on that link. So this type of data source is not supported in current version of SSAS. Microsoft will update that document when it is supported.

  • ODBC Data Source Not Available

Completed installation of Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, when attempting to configure data source, Oracle in OraClient 10g home 2 is not an available driver, attempting to connect to an Oracle Database, can connect correctly PL SQL? Oracle BI Server is shown?

I am not sure i understand your question. Do you have Oracle Client Installed? This is required for connecting to an Oracle Database. If you have some issues with OCI try connecting using ODBC. If the ODBC works then OCI should also work. I believe there might some conflict of your Oracle homes.

  • Tables and views greyout in selection of data source

    Hi
I have setup Data Gateway and data sources to a on-prem SQK server in Power BI for Office 365. I have connected to the onsite database but some of the tables and views are greyed-out. The warning relates to the tables not supporting oData but I am not
sure what I need to do from here. Most of the tables are OK and I cant see what would be causing some of them to not be supported.
    Please advise
    Jason

Generally speaking, there are two possible common reasons.
all columns in table is nullable.
Or you have an unsupported column data type in table. Please check here.

  • Powerpivot Data Refresh Not working with Oracle Data Source in sharePoint 2013

I created a simple Excel 2013 PPIV workbook with an oracle data source and uploaded that to SharePoint 2013, but no change in the results - still getting the above error.
What is this error? We have installed Oracle client (64-bit, since we use 64-bit Excel and Sp is also 64-bit) on SSAS PPIV Server and SharePoint Content DB Server. Do we need
    to install it anywhere else?
    Thanks,
    Sonal

    Hi Sonal,
To use PowerPivot for SharePoint on SharePoint 2013, it is required to install PowerPivot for SharePoint with the Slipstream version of SQL Server 2012 SP1. If you install SQL Server 2012 and then use the upgrade version of SQL Server 2012 SP1 to upgrade,
the environment will not support SharePoint 2013.
I would suggest you refer to the following articles:

  • Using Oracle XE as a Data Source for Powerpivot

I will be migrating my database from MS Access 2007 (*.accdb) to an Oracle XE. Any good links or papers on this or possibly any past experience with this (powerpivot connection)? Just trying to make sure that the connector is already within the Powerpivot download.
    Using Powerpivot v2.0
    For more info about powerpivot:
    www.powerpivot.com

    Hello,
I'm not sure this is an XE-specific question. However, there's not much examples outside, probably because it's not a very common solution. I'd say it should work, as PowerPivot offers OLE DB and ODBC connectors and XE comes with appropriate ODBC drivers installed. So, as long as your XE is on the same machine as your PowerPivot, you don't have to care much about that. Otherwhise you'll probably have to install the ODBC driver, e.g. from [url http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/visual-studio/downloads/index.html]Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC).
Then create your ODBC data source, test it, and link it in PowerPivot.

  • Problem connecting PowerPivot's (Office 2013) Data Model deployed on SharePoint 2013 to data source.

    Hello:
    Our configurations is as follow :  SharePoint 2013 is on Server A;  SQL Server Analysis server (SQL 2014) is on DB Server B;
SharePoint databases (sp_ ...) and our Data Mart (SQL 2014) are on server B. All servers runs Windows 2012 OS.
On my desktop I built a simple Excel 2013 workbook with PowerPivot Data Model that imported several tables from our Data Mart (server B above). Then created a Power View report. Locally everything works fine.
But when I uploaded this workbook to our SharePoint PowerPivot gallery and was trying to refresh data, I got the connection error: It’s very long but the ErrorCode is “rsCannotRetriveModel”. The end of the error message is:
    'TemporaryDataSource'.</Message><MoreInformation><Source>Microsoft.AnalysisServices.SPClient</Source>
<Message>Call to Excel Services returned an error.</Message>
<MoreInformation><Source></Source><Message>We were unable to refresh one or more data connections in this workbook.

Our Excel Services on the SharePoint work fine and refresh data on different excel workbooks (with no Data Model) just fine.  We are using an unattended account for Excel Services to connect from SharePoint server to our databases. Found a few references
on the topic, tried them but with no luck.
    Please advise!

    Jeff Gorvits

    Hi Jeff,
Firstly, I need to confirm whether you are refreshing Data connection in browser, since Data Refresh is not supported in Office Web Apps. Please refer more information in this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/excel_services__powerpivot_for_sharepoint_support_blog/archive/2013/01/31/powerpivot-for-sharepoint-browser-refresh-fails-data-refresh-not-supported-in-office-web-apps.aspx
From the error "Call to Excel Services returned an error", please verify the location of the
data source, for example an Excel workbook, is registered as a trusted location with Excel Services:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219699(v=office.15).aspx
Since you are using unattended account for Excel Services to connect from SP to databases, I wonder if the issue occurs to unattended referesh, if so, please refer to:
