Powerpoint window off the screen

I opened powerpoint, and opened a recent presentation. The presentation did not appear. I went into mission control, and saw the window was there. When dragging the window into a new desktop, it simply rose to the top left (outside the desktop preview) and faded away. Look at the sequence of images, you'll see what i mean:
BTW: The first image should actually say 'Desktop 1'. I messed up in the screen shots!

With some 'less intelligent' applications, this workaround has helped:
First, be sure to tick the Show displays in menu bar checkbox in the Displays item on System Preferences, to get the menulet up and have instant access to all things display without having to fumble all the time.
Then, when an app goes offscreen, use the menulet to reduce the display resolution a size or two. This causes the OS to signal all apps that have open windows of the change so they can adjust accordingly. As per Apple's recommended Human Interface guidelines, the apps are mandated to constrain their windows to the visible area of the screen, and most do.
After that happens, you can return to the regular screen resolution. Windows will stay constrained to the smaller res or may readjust to fill  the new one, but not exceed it.

  • How do I recover a window that has gone off the screen ?

The upper and right hand sides of my "Adobe Elements Organizer" application window have gone permanently  off my Imac screen and try as I might, I can't drag or minimize this window to centre it on my desktop as a much smaller size and thereby recover control of it.    The missing window top contains some commands I can't access and so does the missing right hand side of the application window.  Have tried junking app prefs, turning off Spaces, starting and restarting the computer.   Problem does not occur in other accounts using the same app - so something is screwed up with this app's window size defaults or settings or prefs in my user account only.
    anyone have any suggestions?
Deleting all the "com.adobe.elements organizer.plist" files does NOT cure my problem.   I suspect it has something to do with Mavericks' poorly tested 'multiple displays' feature  --  that likely has some bugs in it.   This app window seems to think it's on a much bigger monitor than my 21.5" Imac.'   short of removing and reinstalling the app itself or getting a windows machine, I can think of nothing else to do.

Not sure I follow what you mean:  When I open Mission Control, the entire troubled application window is then (hurrah !!!) visible on the Mission Control "Overview" screen - but when I c\olick in that app and I am returned to the normal operating screen, it's all cut off again.  It will not let me click and hold and then drag on its lower black border; I can only resize it in the direction that pushes it further off the screen.
This app's main window remains stubbornly frozen in position - up at, and extending right off of,  the top right of my screen and it does not respond to normal dragging - normal attempts to pull it down and see the lower right corner so I can resize the window by dragging its corner inward diagonally.
Can you describe what you want me to try in different words.  By invoking I assume you mean opening mission control.   That I am doing and that's the only way I can see the whole window looming quite normal.   But it won;t render for me that normal way on a normal operating screen.

  • MacBook Pro Display (window) shifts off the screen when I move my mouse

With a slight move with my magic mouse, my entire open window will shift completely off the screen with only a part of the window still visible. I have to click on the exposed edge of the window for it to shift back into place. It's only the window of the program that I have open that moves. The dock and the desktop image stays in place. I'm using an HP external monitor now but it was doing this before I hooked up the monitor. I've tried maximizing and minimizing my window but that does not seem to have an effect. Could it be the magic mouse? Thanks in advance for any help.

Wow. The power of Google is truly amazing. Just a little while ago, my husband was going nuts with our computer. I googled the words 'when I move my mouse to the left, the screen moves to the right'. And, Eureka! What do you think was the first thing that popped up on Google?
Well, the answer to my question, of course!:P Which led me right to here. It may not have been me that asked the question, but this did answer MY question!
Apparently this applies to Leopard too. Thanks alot!

  • The entire window went off the screen to the right, can see icon at bottom but when I click on it it zips off to the right.

I was working in Firefox and clicked on something which made the entire window flash off to the right, unable to be seen. The Firefox icon is available at the bottom but when I click it, it sends the screen off to the right. Click on icon again and it will take it from "off the screen" back into the icon. I tried restarting with no change. It only affects one user on the computer.

  • Finder window resizing lower left corner is off the screen - Help!

Moving from a 17" PowerBook to the 13" MBA, my Finder windows are too big. If I could only change my default window size from the 17" to the 13" I could Command-A Command-C Command-V the contents of my larger old windows to the smaller new screen...or a global resize of the windows would be even better. Any suggestions?

That won't work when it is too big and off the screen.
You have to click OPTION and the GREEN button to be able to resize it when it's off the screen.

I am having the same issue.  I am using CS6, and my 'Effects' box is off the screen and unusable.  I have tried resetting the workspace, changing the workspace, restarting the program, rebooting the system, switching between multiple and single monitor....all with no effect.  The dialog box is always in the same place; in the upper left of the screen.  Any further help would be appreciated.

FIXED:  As soon as I posted this, I had a thought.  While that dialog box was active, I went to System Preferences>Displays>Gather Windows.  May or may not work for original poster.

  • Hi i am have had a lot of trouble emptying my trash. when i go to put something in there it asks from my password and the item goes off the screen, but this does not clear any space on the hard drive.

Hi i am have had a lot of trouble emptying my trash. when i go to put something in there it asks from my password and the item goes off the screen, but this does not clear any space on the hard drive.

    1. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/.Trash
    2. Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu. An Info dialog should open.
    3. The dialog should show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section. If that's not what it shows, click the padlock icon in the lower right corner of the window and enter your password when prompted. Use the plus- and minus-sign buttons to give yourself Read & Write access and "everyone" No Access. Delete any other entries in the access list.
    4. In the General section, uncheck the box marked Locked if it's checked.
    5. From the action menu (gear icon) at the bottom of the dialog, select Apply to enclosed items and confirm.
    6. Close the Info window and test.

  • My new version of Firefox (downloaded automatically) on my Mac displays long paragraphs in emails as a single line, so the end of the paragraph is off the screen. How can I make it automatically wrap to fit the screen?

Long paragraphs in incoming emails display as a single line, with the end of the paragraph running off the screen. I want to make it wrap automatically to fit the screen.

For the browser window, just drag it to the top left of the screen (click and hold on the top bar with the traffic lights to drag), then in the bottom right of the window you'll see a rectangle with diagonal hatching. Click and hold on that and drag the window to the size you want.
Clicking on the green dot at top left will expand the window to fit the screen, clicking it again will shrink it back to where it was (this doesn't work in Finder windows quite the same).
The menu bar size is set in the bowels of the OS, though there may be third-party applications which can alter it.
As it's size is relative to the screen resolution, you could try reducing the resolution in System Preferences > Displays to see if that would suit you better.

  • Reader XI has the print button off the screen when on 800x600 resolution

Reader XI has the print button off the screen when on 800x600 resolution as well, how to fix without changing resolution?  A user needs the resolution set to that for her eyes.
I see that this was an issue in Reader X and update 10.1.3 resolved it.  What was the fix?

The scrollbar appears and works but unfortunately the dialog size is still too big therefore the print button ends up being hidden by the windows taskbar. Could you please make sure that the print dialog size is calculated against the work area (desktop size minus the taskbar, there's a win32 API to get that) rather than the whole desktop to fix the issue?
That would also fix another issue: when the taskbar is sized higher than usual whatever the resolution you have it could still end up covering the print buttons but if you calculate against the work area rather than the desktop area that issue would be fixed as well.
Please don't leave it unfixed because even if the requirements say 1024x768 if you have higher DPI settings or have a taskbar with a non-default size the print button could easily become unreacheable.

  • My E-Mail  is going off the screen, Help!

    I have a MacMini with Mail Version 2.1 (752/752.2)
Very recently my e-mail both mine outgoing and my incoming mail have gone off the screen and I cannot read.
    Suggestions? Questions for me?
    Please help.

    Didn't you change the display?
You can drag the mail window in a way you can reach
the bottom right. Them you can recise.
You can also click on the green (top left).
The green at the top left was what cured my problem. So very basic and yet I never had paid any attention to it. Thanks so much. I do know about shrinking the window size, but the other problems was pushing me over the edge.
    Thanks again for your assistance!

  • Scroll bar on the right is off the screen. How is this fixed?

In the 11.0.1 version of iTunes, when I go to full screen, the window is too big and the scroll bar on the right is off the screen. Can this be fixed, or do I have to wait for the next version?

Yep. For all us spreadsheet geeks, this is a real sinker. Anyway, here's my workaround. Not free, unfortunately. I have a macro program called QuicKeys installed on my Mac that I've used for countless years, and  which I highly recommend for other reasons. Anyway, one of QuicKeys' many features is simulating a scroll wheel using the keyboard. I have it simulating a cell-by-cell scroll using cmd-arrow keys. The only drawback is that I have to release the cmd key each time I want to move another cell.

  • Mail opens off the screen & I can't reposition it...HELP!

Has anyone had this issue and maybe can help? When I open Mail it flies off the screen to the right. It is open and all the controls on top are there, but I can't see the main screen pane. So I am not able to open Preferences or anything else than might help. If I click on Minimize in the Window dropdown I can see it fly down to the dock and likewise if I then hit Zoom it flies off to the right where I can't see it again. Any thoughts?

Ok, it could be two other things.
The monitor resolution could have changed. Go to System Preferences > Displays > Display tab > scroll this list of resolutions down and choose the bottom most resolution.
If that doesn't help you could have another monitor attached to extend the desktop. An additional tab (arrangement) will be present in System Preferences > Displays if that's the case.
Physically disconnect anything plugged into the mini displayport. The desktop should reset to one non-extended desktop.

  • Turn off the screen saver is greyed out in Presentation Settings

    Hi,
We are using Windows 7, and want to allow laptop users the ability to "turn off the screen saver" when they are running presentations. However, this option is greyed out and the box is not selectable.
We have the usual screen saver group policies, i.e. enable screen saver, Prevent changing the screen saver, screen saver timeout, and force specific screen saver. I have tried to Disable all these apart from Enable screen saver, since if I disable this then
it says users cannot change screen saver options, so I left this one as enabled.
However, the "Turn off the screen saver" box is still greyed out. Does anyone know which group policy setting will enable this option?
Also, is there a way to keep the screen saver settings and also be able to use Presentation Settings, so that the screen saver does not come on and lock the machine in mid presentation?
I've seen some sites mention utilities that run in the background and simulate mouse clicks, but we're not allowed to run these kind of utilities, and no forums seem to be able to provide an answer to this problem.
    Thxs.
    Jaz

    Hi,
    >>i.e. enable screen saver, Prevent changing the screen saver, screen saver timeout, and force specific screen saver. I have tried to Disable all these apart from
    Enable screen saver,
Before going further, please make sure that the group policy settings were applied correctly. We can run cmd command
gpresult/v or gpresult/z on clients to collect group policy to check this.
Besides, if the issue persists, we can try setting all these settings to
    Not Configured.
    >>Also, is there a way to keep the screen saver settings and also be able to use Presentation Settings, so that the screen saver does not come on and lock the machine
    in mid presentation?
Based on the description, it is not easy to do this. However, we can reduce the effect of screen saver by choosing to not enable
Password protect the screen saver, and not set the setting
On resume, display logon screen on Screen Saver Settings dialogue box. Besides, we need to not let our power plan settings lock out the computer within a short time.
