Pre-configured Linux with Oracle DB and Applications

Does anyone know if there is a pre-configured oracle-linux stack out there that would have all the components already configured. I have seen this for other products such as sugarCRM. Its really nice to have this, since it takes the complexity and installation time out of the equation, especially if you are just trying to test or demo the software. I imagine a PeopleSoft Oracle Linux Stack, as well as one for each of the Oracle Application and Software Suites. If not, i guess i will go the more fun route of downloading and installing each package individually.

There is package, named oracle-validated. it verifies and sets system parameters based on Oracle validated configuration recommendations for Oracle Enterprise Linux Release 4.

  • New Note 790189.1 - Oracle Clusterware and Application Failover Management

    Hi all,
please, note the newly created Metalink Note 790189.1 - Oracle Clusterware and Application Failover Management if you want to use Oracle Clusterware as a general purpose cluster solution. The note intends to clarify and to explain the current situation in regards to the supportability of applications managed by Oracle Clusterware.
In environments not including Oracle RAC, Oracle Clusterware still provides the level of high availability that is commonly known to be achievable for applications and databases managed in (failover) cluster environments. These environments can include Oracle Single Instance Databases, Oracle Application Servers, Oracle Enterprise Manager components, third party databases, or any other kind of application. (For more information on Oracle Clusterware 11g in general, please, refer to [Oracle Clusterware homepage|http://otn.oracle.com/clusterware].)
Metalink Note 790189.1 - Oracle Clusterware and Application Failover Management is tightly integrated with the information on application failover management available on the [Oracle Clusterware homepage|http://otn.oracle.com/clusterware] and discusses typical questions like
    * Terminology
    * Script supportability and preconfigured agents
    * How to prove that action scripts work outside of Oracle Clusterware
    * Supportability of the Oracle Database Single Instance example scripts
    * How do I know whether a certain script is supported as a preconfigured agent?
Metalink Note 790189.1, however, does not change the level of support that has been introduced for these kind of configurations as of Oracle Database 10g Release 2: "Generally, Oracle does not support action scripts in the strict terms of supporting individual code fragments. Oracle fully supports the integration of individual action scripts proven to run outside of Oracle Clusterware into the Oracle Clusterware management stack. Supported operations therefore typically involve crs_* commands such as crs_profile, crs_register, crs_setperm, crs_getperm, crs_start, crs_stop, and crs_relocate invoked on custom resources. If actions scripts are used as part of a preconfigured agent, Oracle or the application provider who provides the agent will support the integration of this agent, while only the application provider will provide support for the individual action scripts."
    Just for your information. Thanks,
    Markus

not meant to be a question - rather an announcement.

  • Connect as: normal with Oracle 12c and Toad 12 FAILS.

Connect as: normal with Oracle 12c and Toad 12 FAILS.
I've been looked at forums, blogs and wikies but I couldn't found why my new user, that I created before, can't connect as NORMAL but as SYSDBA it can.
I don't know why this occurs.
My intention is create a user/schema in a local DB to have my own db.
I can create a new user but when I go to connect to this new schema I only connect as SYSDBA, this is a big trouble because I can "see" object's DBA and I don't want this, I want create my own new schema db and not share name's object or name's tables with DBA.
For example, object JOB exists as SYSDBA and I can't create a new table with this name.
    Please, help me.
Thanks very much for read me.

  • Steps to UTF-8 Encoding with Oracle 8i and Weblogic 6.1SP1

What are the Steps to UTF-8 Encoding with Oracle 8i and Weblogic
              6.1SP1?
              I have:
              - Oracle 8.1.5 database created with character set=UTF8 and national
              character set=UTF8
              - Weblogic 6.1SP1 without any encoding mechanism set
              (though I did play with
              <jsp-param><param-name>encoding</param-name>
              <param-value>UTF-8</param-value>
              </jsp-param>
in the weblogic.xml for a while though it seemed not to make a
              difference)
              - JSP pages set to content='text/html; charset=UTF-8'
              - JSP form POSTs set to enctype="UTF-8"
I can copy and paste Chinese Kanji from a UTF8 encoded web page into
form text boxes but when I post the data it comes back as different
Kanji. Then once it is posted the Kanji stays the same on repeated
posts. The same Kanji text also looks different when viewed in a form
text box than when viewed as straight text on the page.
Is there anything else? Or am I already encoding characters twice?
              Please help!

  • JSR168 Portlet Exception with Oracle OC4J and Spring

JSR168 Portlet Exception with Oracle OC4J and Spring
I’m having a problem with accessing a Spring JSR168 Portlet when deployed on Oracle OC4J. I have created a very simple portlet that just renders simple jsp page. I created two versions. One using GenricPortlet and one using org.springframework.web.portlet.mvc.AbstractContro ller. The non-Spring portlet deploys and runs as expected. The Spring portlet deploys but throws the following exception

I have managed to deploy and run the Spring portlet using Sun App Server and Sun Portlet container with no problems which leads me to believe my Spring setup is correct.
I also have managed to run the Spring pets portlet example on Sun App Server and Sun Portlet container with no problems. But again it fails on Oracle with the same problem.
To deploy on Oracle I ran the oracle wsrp jar against my EAR. As far as I can tell it has not corrupted any of the Spring setup in the web.xml.
    The version are as follows
Oracle Portal 10.1.4 running on OAS 10.1.2
calling the portlet using WSRP v1.
The portlet is running on standalone OC4J 10.1.3.3 with Oracle portlet container 10.1.3.2. On Windows Spring 2.0.6.
    Any ideas? Thanks Paul

Was an answer ever found? I am currently experiencing the same issue.

  • Developer2000 application with Oracle 8i AND 9iDS

    Hello,
We have a large application written in Developer 2000 and Oracle8i. We got three new products : Oracle 9i database, Oracle 9iAS and Oracle 9iDS (developer Suite).
I have the following questions :
    (1) Can I compile and run my dev2k application with 9iDS (forms and reports dveloper) and view through a browser over the web ? Someone suggested that we can. I like to verify.
    (2) What is the relationship of 9iDS with 9iAS ? Can I just install 9iDS and backend Oracle database and run my application (without 9iAS) ? This is very important for me.
    (3) Can 9iAS talk to Oracle 8i seamlessly or we have to have Oracle 9i database in the backend ? Oracle 9i database has a large footprint and it needs Itenium 2 for executions which we do not have.
PLEASE HELP ME BY ANSWERING THESE QUESTIONS.
    Thanks,

    quick answers:
    1. Yes
    2. you can develop with 9iDS and be able to "view" what you developed with it. When it comes to deployment, then you need 9iAS Enterprise Edition (the only version which has forms/reports services). Another words, you need license for both 9iDS and 9iAS EE.
    3. I just verified from Metalink (only for the solaris platform) that 9iAS is certified against 9i and 8.1.7 database servers. For other platforms, please check Metalink.
    hope this proves useful.

  • Configuring DBTableOraDataSourceLoginModule with Oracle Application Server

    Hi,
I want to deploy an application that uses DBTableOraDataSourceLoginModule for J2EE authentication. I've configured my application the same way that it should be configured for OC4J standalone as I didn't know how to configure it for Oracle App Server. The result is that authentication in the deployed application does not work and it always goes to error page.
I've configured orion-application.xml and data-sources.xml as demonstrated in Frank's article.
    S/\EE|)

Connection pools where OK before but now when I test them I get the following error:
Unable to establish connection to "jdev-connection-pool-ExirSec". Error message: Exception occurred testing connection. Exception: java.sql.SQLException: User credentials doesn't match the existing ones.
I have two DB connections in my application, one for the whole application and another for security purposes. How many Data Sources and Connection Pools and of what type should I have in JDBC Resources of OracleAS EM, when I deploy the application? Currently I have one managed and one native data source and one connection pool for each of my DB connections, as defined in my data-sources.xml.

  • CAC or smart card use with Oracle database and web server

I've been asked to smart card (CAC) enable our Oracle web server and database access. We currently use CAC to access many of our other applications.
Where can I find the following information
Oracle software required (and is it an additional cost)
How to integrate Oracle App server (web server) with CAC.
How would I need to change the database users accounts to be CAC enabled rather than database users accounts.

  • ZAV, Oracle client and applications

    Hi,
    I have a old client/server software that need a Oracle 9.2 client.
As a test I have created a new snapshot, installed and configured Oracle client and the actual application on Windows XP, second snapshot, did a few changes and built the project.
First I test this on the same build machine - working fine. Then I test the file on a clean Windows XP machine, working fine, started the same test on a clean Windows 7 machine - working fine.
But when I test on a standard Windows 7 machine (with Oracle 10g client) it does not work.
The big question is how to isolate Oracle 9 client from other Oracle client resides on the host machine, or have I isolated too much (I created a cmd link within the virtual application and when I try tnsping within the virtual machine I get time out error.
Does anyone have any luck on virtualize Oracle 9 client and run it on machines with other Oracle clients on?

  • Oracle users and application users

    Hi All,
I'm currently developing a small application, probably 50 users max. I'm still having a hard time as to how I should create and manage the application users. I've thought of 2 ways but not really sure which will be the best approach.
    Approach 1: 1 application user = 1 oracle user.
    - This way I can create roles with specific privileges and grant them to particular users.
    - I won't have to manually configure/grant users access to specific modules in the application.
    - Each user will have their own connection since they will use their username and password to build the connection string.
    - I will be able to use the auditing feature.
Approach 2: Create 1 user/schema with all the objects needed for the application then create my own users_tbl to store user credentials such as username/password etc.
    - Manually configure access to users on specific modules.
    - All users will use 1 connection string.
    - Will not be able to use auditing feature.
can anyone else suggest any other approach or comment on my 2 approach.
also, i will be using vb.net using vs 2005 to develop the application for my oracle 10g express edition database.
    thanks.

    Hello,
Just to throw something into the hat....have you considered using the already installed APEX development environment that already comes with your XE?
Much of this sort of 'connection pooling/handling' disappears using the APEX environment as it is all automatically-handled for you (which means you can then concentrate on the really important stuff).

  • SAP SRM Prod with Oracle DB and AIX 5.3 Performance Issue.

    Hi Basis Gurus,
Today my SAP PRD system all of a sudden was running slow and users had difficulties executing TCodes as it took minutes before the screen appeared. My system is SAP SRM 4.00, Oracle Release 11.2.0.1.0 and AIX 5.3.
From Basis point of view , we noticed that all the work process were hanged due to RFCs' occupying it.Couldnt investigate further on the system as we needed to restart asap because users needed to log on. A quick check on SICK shows no errors. What we managed to find out is that we needed to check this parameter below and set it accordingly:-
    rdisp/rfc_min_wait_dia_wp:-
    Definition
Number of work processes kept free for other users.
    Use
This parameter is used to reserve a number of dialog work processes for dialog mode. It prevents parallel RFCs from occupying all the processes.
The parameter rdisp/wp_no_dia specifies the absolute number of dialog work processes.
Unit: number of dialog work processes
    Default value: 1
    Example
If 10 dialog work processes are configured for the instance (rdisp/wp_no_dia = 10) and the parameter rdisp/rfc_min_wait_dia_wp  = 3 is set, parallel RFCs can occupy a maximun of 7 dialog work processes. Three dialog work processes always remain free for dialog mode.
There are 20 DIA processes in our system, perhaps reserving a minimum of about 5 work processes for DIA users will be useful via the parameter.
So my first question would be is there any other suggestions besides adjusting the mentioned parameter above in order to ensure that no work processors going into hang state due to RFCs' occupying it as this issue always happens at the end of the month only when there are massive users accessing it.
When we went for a restart of the system we encountered another issue. Steps to the issue are as below:-
    1) Did a proper shutdown of Oracle and SAP.
    2) When we start using startsap script, it doesn't start DB so we started DB manually but listener was having problem
        so we stopped all.
    3) We also did a cleanipc, it too throws below error:-
    sidadm> cleanipc <systemno> remove
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program cleanipc because of the following errors:
0509-130 Symbol resolution failed for cleanipc because:
0509-136   Symbol memmove (number 106) is not exported from
                   dependent module /usr/sap/sid/SYS/exe/run/libsapu16.so.
0509-192 Examine .loader section symbols with the
                   'dump -Tv' command.
    4) Also the Listener file has no contents,it's null file.
    5) This is another error :-
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program /oracle/sid/112_64/bin/tnslsnr because of the following errors:
0509-150   Dependent module /oracle/sid/112_64/lib/libttsh11.so could not be loaded.
0509-101   The module has too many section headers
        or the file is damaged
The libttsh11.so file was empty dated 25th timestamp as below in PRD:-
    -rw-rr    1 sid   dba               0 Nov 25 07:12 libttsh11.so
Further checking has let me to understand this is an Oracle Bug from this link:-
    http://gavinsoorma.com/2009/12/11-1-0-6-clusterware-upgrade-to-11-1-0-7/
This Oracle bug only happens in an Upgrade time and how could this happen to my Production system during a restart process.
Also this system was restarted during the last weekend's maintainance window and it came up with no issues.
    6) We copied over the libttsh11.so from our QA environment to PRD and did a Startup:-
-rwxr-x---    1 sid   dba        65967496 Nov 25 07:40 libttsh11.so (This is the copied over file from QA)
    7) After Startup everything has been in order till now.
My second question is what went wrong with the libttsh11.so file. How could it be 0 size in PRD when no signs of changes had happen to the PRD system. Is this a proven Oracle Bug or something else since I have never encountered anything like this before. Hope all the Gurus here could shed some light into my 2 questions as I am looking for positive answers.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    John

    Hi,
Firstly I would suggest you to upgrade your database from Oracle Release 11.2.0.1.0 to Oracle Release 11.2.0.2 . This is the recommended Oracle 11g database version  for SAP solutions. Many of your problem will get resolved with it.
    Question 1:
So my first question would be is there any other suggestions besides adjusting the mentioned parameter above in order to ensure that no work processors going into hang state due to RFCs' occupying it as this issue always happens at the end of the month only when there are massive users accessing it.
For immediate resolution the approach you have followed is correct viz limiting number of dialog processes for RFC. Secondly you need to analyze why RFC processing takes so much time. You need check which programs are getting executed by those RFC.
Generate EarlyWatch report for more detailed view
    Question 2:
My second question is what went wrong with the libttsh11.so file. How could it be 0 size in PRD when no signs of changes had happen to the PRD system. Is this a proven Oracle Bug or something else since I have never encountered anything like this before.
The libttsh11.so library cannot be found in the related directory.
    Cause
The file system is mounted using CIO option, but per Note 257338.1 Direct I/O (DIO) and Concurrent I/O (CIO) on AIX 5L, an ORACLE_HOME on a filesystem mounted with "cio" option is not supported.
Such a configuration will cause, installation, relinking and other unexpected problems.
    Solution
Disable the CIO option on the filesystem.

    Hi Santosh,
I think the Reporting Services integration works with SQL Server 2008/2008 R2. When the SQL Server 2012 is installed, there is an option to install Reporting Services - SharePoint bits. Details can be found here:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/jj219068(v=sql.110).aspx
Once the Reporting Services components have been installed you should be able to configure the SQL Server Reporting Service Application and use the Reporting Services content types in your SharePoint libraries
    Hope this helps

  • Error Installing ERP2005 on Red Hat 4es Linux with Oracle

Normally I only install SAP for customers on Unix boxes or WIndows, but I was asked for a customer to do an installation on Red Hat 4es 64bit. It will be a Sandbox system for the customer. ERP2005 with Oracle.
But after some issues on shared objects when I wasn't able to start the sapinst, cause there was no JRE installed, but has been installed after this (version 1.4.2.13 for linux). I now run into the following issue when ./sapinst is running and me trying to start the ./startInstGui.sh I get the following :
java.lang.RuntimeException: invocation target exception: /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_13/lib/i386/libawt.so: libXp.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
both files are there, JAVA_HOME had been set, java had also been set as path, but when I do a file on the files it gives me:
    [root@su49tas1 lib64]# file libXp.so.6.2
libXp.so.6.2: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), stripped
    [root@su49tas1 i386]# file libawt.so
libawt.so: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), stripped
looking at this there might be a conflict on version, but the libXp.so comes from the RH install cd and the libawt.so comes from the jre1.4.2.13-rpm.bin file downloaded from the java sun website.
strange thing is that I cannot find a 64bit version so that might bring down my thoughts on version conflict.
Hopefully someone had had this same issue also and had solved it, but also other input which might help me solve this is appreciated.
cause this is turning my head for a day and night
    cheers

  • Oracle 11g compatibility with oracle 10g and 9i?

    Hi All
I have some queries on 11g compatibility.
Is oracle 11g client compatible with oracle 10g client which is already installed on desktop?
If yes any changes to be done and where?
Is oracle 11g compatible with oracle 10g/9i on the same server where 10g/9i are installed?
    Regards

    Thanks Justin Thats right ...
    Problem elaboration is as follows
We currently have an application which requires oracle 10g(10.2.0.3) client to connect to database from user desktops. As
part of new application development the oracle 11g clients need to be installed on all the user deskotps.
The complete application software along with oracle client 11g has to be roled out on these desktop as part of
implementaion of new application besides the existing application(The application software is packaged along with oracle
    10g client).
We would like to understand if there is any software provided by oracle using which we can switch between different oracle
versions while accessing the respective applications simultaneously. Also are there any known bugs/issues in running
oracle 10g client and oracle 11g client together on the same user desktops with different oracle homes?
