Precision of the SUM Funtion

I am writing a simple query using SELECT SUM(l.ledger) as part of the SELECT statement. I am getting the correct number except it has a precision of 8, no scale. IE: number should be 1000000.72 and I'm getting 1000000.7. The column in my table is NUMBER(15,2). What am I missing?

How are you viewing the data? In SQL*Plus, I can change the display by changing the column format mask
SQL> column num format 999999999.9
SQL> select 100000000.72 num from dual;
         NUM
100000000.7
SQL> column num format 999999999.99
SQL>  select 100000000.72 num from dual;
          NUM
100000000.72If you're viewing the data in a tool other than SQL*Plus, you probably have the same sort of formatting options.

    Here is my problem.

  • How can I calculate the sum of the first two rows in a table?

    I have a table with a repeating row that, when data is merged, always has three rows:
    Support type 1
    1,234,456
    Support type 2
    221,556
    Interest
    11.222
    I have a field where I want to show the sum of Support types 1 and 2.
    I do not want to add the interest to this.
    I'm using FormCalc with the following script on the calculate event of the Total field, which is in the same subform but not in the table:
    data.JP_Page1.subform_Hidden.sub_SupportTotals.NumericField1::calculate - (FormCalc, client)
    $.rawValue = Sum(subform_Hidden.sub_SupportTotals.tbl_SupportSubtotals.DataRow[0].SUBTOTAL,  subform_Hidden.sub_SupportTotals.tbl_SupportSubtotals.DataRow[1].SUBTOTAL)
    I've tried this using both decimal and numeric field types, neither work.
    I feel like I must be hitting a syntax issue, but the code checker isn't exposing it.
    Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong with my script?
    Thanks!
    Janet

    You don't need to do Sum for this, you should use Sum for all rows purpose only..
    $.rawValue = subform_Hidden.sub_SupportTotals.tbl_SupportSubtotals.DataRow[0]. SUBTOTAL +  subform_Hidden.sub_SupportTotals.tbl_SupportSubtotals.DataRow[1].SUBT OTAL

  • How do I make a form field validate that it is the sum of two other fields?

    Hi there,
    I am creating a form, and I would like one of the fields to validate by making sure that this field is the sum of two other fields in the form.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about this?  I know I'll need to run a custom validation script, but I'm not sure where to begin - I've never done one for validation before.
    Thanks for any help!

    OK, here's a sample script that I hope will clearly demonstrate the general approach. It is intended to be the custom Validate script of the field that the user enters that value that is supposed to be equal to the sum of the two others.
    // Custom Validate script
    (function () {
        // Get the value that the user entered
        var sVal = event.value;
        // If it is blank, do nothing else
        if (!sVal) {
            return;
        // Convert string to a number
        nVal = +sVal;
        // Get the values of the fields, as numbers
        var v1 = +getField("text1").value;
        var v2 = +getField("text2").value;
        // Add them together, rounding to two decimal places, converting to number
        var sum = +util.printf("%.2f", v1 + v2);
        // Compare entered value to the sum of the other two fields
        // Alter the user if they do not match
        if (nVal !== sum) {
            app.alert("The value you entered does not equal the sum of text1 and text2. Please correct.", 3);
            // If you want the entered value rejected, include the following
            event.rc = false;
    Replace "text1" and "text2" with the actual field names.

  • How to get the sum in appropriate column without a red triangle appearing?

    Hello,
    In 'Numbers" - How do get columns to add (calculate) the sum in each decending column on an Expense Report.
    When I highlight the decending column the total appears on the far left of the screen.  When I drag the sum amount from there to the appropriate column a red triangle with an ! appears instead of the amount.
    Thanks for your immediate help.

    The red triangle is an Error triangle. Clicking it will display the error message and tell you what error has occurred. From your description, my assumption is that you dragged the SUM() function from the quick calculations at the lower left and dropped it intto a cell in the column being summed.
    If that's the case, this is likely the error message you would see:
    When you highlighted the 'decending column,' you likely selected all of the cells in that column, including the one into which you dropped the function.
    Instead, do one of the following. These assume the column you want to sum is column B.
    If you want the sum at the top of the column:
    Make sure the row you want the sum to appear in is a Header row.
    Enter this formula into any Header Row cell in column B:   =SUM(B)
    If you want the sum at the bottom of the column:
    Add a Footer row to the table. (Go Table (menu) > Footer Rows > 1).
    Enter this formula into the Footer Row cell in column B:   =SUM(B)
    SUM (and other functions) that expect a range of cells will interpret a cell reference entered using only the column letter (B) as meaning 'all of the non-header, non-footer cells in column B', and will exclude those cells in header or footer rows.

  • Get the sum/product of two UDF rows before adding A/R Invoice

    Hi Everyone,
    I am making some tests here where I am trying to get the sum or product of two UDF rows in a service type A/R invoice where I need to get the product before i even add the document.
    The query goes like:
    SELECT T0.[U_UDF1] * T0.[U_UDF2] FROM INV1 T0 WHERE T0.[U_UDF1] = $[INV1.U_UDF1]
    It did not work. Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    Derrick

    Before you add a transaction, the values you specify in the screen are not stored into the database. In an FS you can use SQL statements but in these statements you can refer only to the actual header or row level data with the special expressions starting with $. The system replaces these expressions with a constant containing the actual value before executing the SQL string.
    So there is no possibility to sum the columns with FS before adding the document.
    Sorry, I didnu2019t read carefully your question and probably misunderstood it.

  • Overall Result Row is not the Sum of Individual Values!

    I am frustrated with a weird problem.  I have an expense report in which Expense1 is shown a value of 8,126.  If I drilldown by company code, the sum of the company codes is 8,235, but the "Overall Result" row is showing 8,126.
    I tried drilling down by GL accounts, cost centers, profit centers, material and even currency.  For all of these drilldowns the "Overall Result" row is 8,126 but the individual values sum out to be 8,235.
    First I thought it could be "Zero Suppression" that is hiding some values from the display.  But "Zero Suppression" was not active at all.  I have checked the LISTCUBE and saw that the Expense1 should be 8,235 and not 8,126.  The key figure properties "Calculate Result As" and "Calculate Single Values As" are set to "Nothing Defined" and "Use Default Direction".  But still for some strange reason, the "Overall Result" row is different than the sum of individual rows.  It's driving me crazy as I have ran out of ideas to figure out what's happening.  Could someone help me with this?  I would appreciate any input with points!

    Hi,
    Remove the 'Suppress Zero rows/columns' from the query definition and then check the values.
    Column A might have value, but for the same row column B might have zero, hence the row was not shown in the result set, but the overall result will include all such values as well, even thought it was not shown in the result set.
    HTH,
    regards,
    Nataraj.

  • Trigger to update field on a table with the sum of fields on another table

    My experience creating triggers and pl/sql in general can best be described in oracle terms as null. I've been practicing by creating tables and applications on my personal home server to help me with some of my work related tasks. Right now I'm trying to create a trigger that will, after insert, update, delete on the assignment_time_track table update the time_spent field on the assignments table with the sum of the time_spent fields on the assignment_time_track table. Hopefully that run on sentence there is clear to people other than myself. I've attempted to script this on my own using the trigger creation tool for Oracle Database Express Edition but I get the following error:
    Trigger create was not successful for the following reason:
    ORA-06552: PL/SQL: Compilation unit analysis terminated ORA-06553: PLS-320: the declaration of the type of this expression is incomplete or malformed
    Here is my attempt at creating the trigger on my own.
    create or replace trigger "ASSIGNMENT_TIME_TRACK_T1"
    AFTER
    insert or update or delete on "ASSIGNMENT_TIME_TRACK"
    for each row
    begin
    update assignments
    set time_spent = (select sum(time_spent)
    from assignment_time_track
    where assignment_time_track.name = assignments.name);
    end;
    If what I've posted isn't clear or more detail is needed, let me know and I'll respond with a complete description of both tables and my goals for each table. Thanks in advance for any help. I will also gladly accept links to tutorials or lessons that explain how to do this sort of thing.
    Edited by: bobonthenet on Mar 9, 2009 2:01 PM

    Hi,
    If the assignments table has only one row per assignment, why is the primary key the combination of name and time_spent? If you have two two assignments called "Lab Report", isn't it possible that you would spend the same amount of time on each of them? I suggest using a sequence to assign an arbitrary id number to each assignment, and use that as the primary key.
    What does each row in assuignment_time_track represent? It sounds like it is a chunk of time spent on one assignment (that is, you want to know that you spent 90 minutes on Tudesday morning working on some assignment, and that you spent another 30 minutes on Tuesday afternoon working on the same assignment). If so, then there should be a foreign key constraint in assignment_time_track referencing the primary key of assignemnt, and not the other way around.
    Alex is right; you can get the total time spent on each project in a query or view; there is no need to replicate that data.
    If you're new to Oracle and SQL, you should invest your time in getting more experience with the basics: everyday things like queries (using joins and GROUP BY) and views, and not spend much time on things that aren't used that much, like triggers.
    If you really did have to copy the data, then you could have a trigger on assignemnt_time_track that kept the total in assignment up to date, like this:
    UPDATE  assignment
    SET     total_time_spent = total_time_spent
                    + NVL (:NEW.time_spent, 0)
                             - NVL (:OLD.time_spent, 0);I suggest you name the column in assignment something different than the column in assignment_time_track, to reduce the risk of confusion. Also, since they represent different things, the same name can't be the most descripttive for each of them.
    In case you're wondering about the use of NVL, above: It allows the same statement to take care of the situation when you INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE a row in assignment_time_track. That is, if you UPDATE a row in assignment_time_track, and change the time_spent from 60 to 90, then you want to add the new time (90) and subtract the old time (60) fro the total_time_spent in assignment: that is, total_time_spent would increase by 30. If you INSERT a new row into assignment_time_track with time_spent=30, you just need to add the new time_spent (30): there is nothing to subtract. But rather than write an IF statement and a second UPDATE for that situation, you can just rely on hte fact that all :OLD values are NULL iwhen INSERTing, and treat that NULL as a 0. Likewise, when DELETing, all :NEW values are NULL..

    please help me out in this issues...so that i can proceed further with my work..im stuck otu here....if the solution r there in the devguide please tell me where it is ..i mean under which section...bcoz it 1400page document...

    If you are mentioning about table/advanced table region you can enable totalling in those regions. Please check the Table / Advanced Table section as appropriate in Chapter 4 of the dev guide.
    If it is not a table / advancedTable then you will have to programmatically total the column value and display it in the appropriate cell.

          subtotal1 type ref to data.
    field-symbols: <total> like gt_sflight,

  • I need to change the sum of a column's total with javascript.

    Hi,
    The HTML output of a SUM column is as follows:
    <td align="center" headers="COST" class="t2data"><b> 827.49</b></td>
    I need to change the sum total with javascript.
    The initial loading of the page SUMs the DB values correctly. Then onchange JS for a couple of factors may change one items COST.
    When that one item's COST changes I need to reSUM the total with JS.
    I was trying the following.. I don't know JS to well.
         var tds = document.getElementsByTagName('td');
         for (var xtd in tds) {
         //alert('Here:'+xtd.headers);
         if (xtd.headers=="COST") {
         // you found the element, do what you need
         alert(xtd.innerHTML);
         After inserting the above code into my javascript is popups up
         my alert, "Here:undefined"
         and never hits the alert(xtd.innerHTML);

    Hi Ya'll,
    I got the following working. See any problems?
    headers=="COST" actually showed up in each row of the whole column, including the SUM. So it ended up being great so I could sum it in the JS.
    I had to change the column type to NUMBER from VARCHAR2 for the initial SUM to work, so adding any formating to the SQL was not good. It looks pretty much what Andy has though... I found a slight hesitation it it though.. I have to work out a bug that prints the old total instead of the first.
    var ltotal =0;
    var tds = document.getElementsByTagName('td');
    for (var k=0; k<tds.length; k++) {
    if (tds[k].headers=="COST") {
    var inputObjs= tds[k].getElementsByTagName('input');
    if(inputObjs.length>0) {
    for (var j=0;j<inputObjs.length;j++) {
    ltotal+= parseFloat(inputObjs[j].value);
    //alert(inputObjs[j].value);
    //alert(ltotal);
    }else{
    tds[k].innerHTML=ltotal;
