Prefer HTTP or SOAP Adapter for file upload

Hi,
I have the following scenario:
Data (about 50 MB) is sent to PI and should get uploaded as file to a third party system.
I don't want to the use the File Adapter as I would have to use the FTP protocol and then have to install a FTP server.
On the third party system exists already a Web service for uploading files (in this case I would take the SOAP Adapter).
Another possibility would be to transfer the data with the HTTP Adapter.
My question is what are advantages and disadvantages of transferring the data to the third party system with the HTTP Adapter and respectively with the SOAP Adapter.
Thanks and regards
Patrick

Hi,
thanks for your answer, but most of threads say only that SOAP Adapter is for communication with Web services and HTTP not.
I know this already and in my case I can use both Adapters for the same task and want to know which I should choose in this case.
Like which one is maybe faster, more reliable, practicable , better for large files...

Patrick

  • URGENT! File Upload Utility or a Custom UI for File Upload is needed!

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to find or develop a file upload utility or custom user interface rather than editing and adding file type item to a page. There is a free portlet for file upload in Knowledge Exchange resources, but it is for 3.0.9 release. I'm using portal 9.0.2.
    I could not any sample about the new release. Also API such as wwsbr_api that is used to add item to content areas is out dated.
    I create a page with a region for "items". When "edit" page and try to add an "file" type item the generated url is sth like this;
    "http://host:7779/pls/portal/PORTAL.wwv_additem.selectitemtype****"
    After selecting item type as a simple file autogenerated url is sth. like ;
    "http://host:7779/pls/portal/PORTAL.wwv_add_wizard.edititem"
    I made search about these API but could not find anything (in PDK PL/SQL API help, too).
    I need this very urgent for a proof of consept study for a customer.

    Hai All,
    In BI IP , When I am trying to load the data (text file) by using Planning function for File Upload. I am getting an error message When I am clicking on Update .
    Error Message : Inconsistent input parameter (parameter: <unknown>, value <unknown>).

    Anyone help me out.
    Thanks,

    Hi Bhima
    Try one of these; it should work:
    1. If you are on SP 14 you would need to upgrade to SP 15. It would work fine
    2. If not, then -
         a] apply note 1070655 - Termination msg CL_RSPLFR_CONTROLLER =>GET_READ_WRITE_PROVIDS
         b] Apply Correction Instruction 566059 [i.e: in Object - CL_RSPLFR_CONTROLLER GET_READ_WRITE_PROVIDS,
    delete the block: l_r_alvl = cl_rspls_alvl=>factory( i_aggrlevel = p_infoprov ).
    and insert block - l_r_alvl = cl_rspls_alvl=>factory( i_aggrlevel = i_infoprov ).

  • ALBPM 6.0 : The maximum size for file uploads has been exceeded.

    Hi,
    I use AquaLogic BPM Entreprise server to deploy my Process. When I try to publish a process on my server I get the following error:
    An unexpected error ocurred.
    The error's technical description is:
    "javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: null"
    Possible causes are:
    The maximum size for file uploads has been exceeded.
    If you are trying to publish an exported project you should publish it using the remote project option.
    If you are trying to upload the participant's photo you should choose a smaller one.
    An internal error has ocurred, please contact support attaching this page's source code.
    Has someone resolve it?
    Thank's.

    Hi,
    Sure you've figured this out by now, but when you get the "Maximum size for file uploads" error during publish consider:
    1. if your export project file is over 10mb, use "Remote Project" (instead of "Exported Project") as the publication source. That way when you select the remote project, you will point to ".fpr" directory of the project you are trying to publish.
    Most times your project is not on a network drive that the server has access to. If this is the case, upload the .exp file to the machine where the Process Administrator is running, then expand it in any directory (just unzip the file). Then, from the Process Administrator, use the option to publish a Remote Project by entering the path to the .fpr directory you just created when unzipping the project.
    2. Check to see if you have cataloged any jars and marked them as non-versionable. Most of the times the project size is big just because of the external jar files. So as a best practice, when you do a project export select the option "include only-versionable jars", that will get reduce the project size considerably (usually to Kb's). Of course you have to manually copy the Jar files to your Ext folder.

  • URM Adapter for File System issue.

    Hi, I am just starting out on using the URM Adapter for File System and I have a few questions about issues I am facing.
    1.     When I try to create multiple searches and map them to Folders/Retention Categories in URM, it does not work. I am able to map one search via one URM source to one Folder/Retention Category (without my custom attribute from question 1). However in Adapter’s Search Preview I am able to perform a search on the documents successfully. Would different searches require different URM sources in Adapter?
    2.     Does the adapter work with other Custom Attributes? I have added an attribute in addition and in the same way as "URMCrawlTimeGMT" is added in Oracle Secure Enterprise Search (I created a custom Document Service and Pipeline to add a metadata value) and in the URM Adapter’s config.properties file and when I create a search in Adapter based on the custom attribute, it does not map the documents into URM. I am however able to search the documents in Adapter’s Search Preview window with the custom attribute displaying correctly.
    Any help with this topic would be really appreciated. Thank you.
    Regards,
    Amar

    Hi Srinath,
    Thanks for the response, as to your questions,
    1. I am not sure how to enable Records Manager in adapter mode. But I am able to login to the Records Manager web page after starting it up through StartManagedWebLogic.cmd URM_server1.
    2. The contents of the file system should be searchable in Records Manager, and should be able to apply retention policies to the documents in the file system, I do not need to have SES, but apparently the adapter needs to have SES as a pre requisite.
    Upon further investigation I found that in the AGENT_DATA table the values being inserted were "User ID"(UA_KEY) and NULL(UA_VALUE), so I just made the UA_VALUE column nullable and I was able to pass that step. Is this the wrong approach to fix the issue.
    Could you please let me know about enabling Records Manager in adapter mode, I am not able to find documentation online, I have been through the Adapter installation and administration guides. Thank you once again.
    Regards,
    Amar

  • URM 11g adapter for File Share

    Hi All,
    Has anyone tried to setup a URM 11g adapter for File Share/system. I could not get any documentation on this for 11g. There is 10g documentation which I tried but could not proceed much. If someone could point to an admin guide for 11g adapter that would be of great help.
    Thanks,

    10g adapters work with 11g as well!

  • Emulating HTTP POST for file upload with J2ME

    I have search through a lot of site and couldn't find the actual code. I try to emulate below html with J2ME.
    <form method="POST" enctype="multipart/form-data" action="Insert.asp">
    <td>File :</td><td>
    <input type="file" name="file" size="40"></td></tr>
    <td> </td><td>
    <input type="submit" value="Submit"></td></tr>
    </form>
    here is my code :
    HttpConnection c = null;
    InputStream is = null;
    OutputStream os = null;
    byte[] filecontent = file byte content ...
    try {
    c = (HttpConnection)Connector.open("http://xx.com/insert.asp");
    c.setRequestMethod(HttpConnection.POST);
    c.setRequestProperty("Content-Length", String.valueOf(cmg.length + 15));
    c.setRequestProperty("Content-type","multipart/form-data");
    os = c.openOutputStream();
    os.write("file=c:\\abc.png".getBytes());
    os.write(filecontent);
    os.flush();
    I can emulate form with text field and it work, but when it come to file upload, above code not working, I don't know what to put for the outputstream, filename ? content ? or both ? since the html only has one field that is the "file" field. The file is actually store in rms with filename abc.png, and I just put in the c:\ for the server as a dump path.

    File upload is more complicated then that... you need multi-part MIME formatting.... But I have just the code...

  • Session tracking for File Upload Servlet

    Hey Friends,
    I am developing a File Upload servlet and I need your help in certain matters .I have taken the servlet code from java-edge.com and am modifying it to give custom behaviour.I have a main page for upload (form upload)(lets call it form 1).If the file to be uploaded already exists on the server then a page is generated by the server saying that file already exists.(form 2)Now it is here(in form 2) that I want to provide an extra button which when submitted would recall the same servlet /or maybe another one and would provide the user for overriding the existing file.
    Now as per the code I would set the Override flag to be false in the second form and false in the main form .
    Given the case that it is a form based uploading servlet how do I maintain the user session when going to the next form or how do i pass the variables of the first form into second form .
    I am also facing another problem that is how do i manage multiple file uploads at a time .This basic system allows only one file per upload .
    P.S If someone could also throw some light on how to use the com.oreilly servlet (the latest version) it would be lovely but for now I want to focus on developing the current one

    Hi Jocelyn,
    I want to apologize firstly for the delay in my response.
    I was seriously bogged down due to certain circumstances and so couldnt reply.Thanks a million for your prompt reply.I'll post the Html content here and you will find the servlet code as is at the following U.R.L
    http://www.java-edge.com/Viewcode.asp?Value=serv012

    click <b> browse </b>to select the file <br>
    <b> File:</b>

    Form 2

    <input type=hidden name="OverWritePage" value="G:/Workspace/overwritepage.html">
    </form>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    Now in Form 2 I would add another button which when clicked would prompt the user if he wishes to overwrite the page.

  • Error in Receiver Soap Adapter for Google API

    Hi,
    I am working on HTTP-XI-Soap scenario which on the receiver side calls google API for spell check.
    I get the following error : <b>No Deserializer found to deserialize a ':key' using encoding style 'http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/'.</b>
    However if I try calling the webservice individually using SOAP Client it works fine and do get desired response.The soap message that is sent by the client to the target URL is :
    <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:urn="urn:GoogleSearch" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
       <soapenv:Body>
          <urn:doSpellingSuggestion soapenv:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/">
             <key xsi:type="xsd:string">qXWD4x1QFHIo/dePqlYOLwT7kMmkv80E</key>
             <phrase <b>xsi:type="xsd:string"</b>>Bratney</phrase>
          </urn:doSpellingSuggestion>
       </soapenv:Body>
    </soapenv:Envelope>
    However if i remove the "xsi:type="xsd:string" part from the element 'phrase' and 'key' it returns the same error as it does while using with XI.
    Hence I am assuming that that the outgoing soap message elements need to have the above highlighed attribute.
    Now I want to have this attribute(xsi:type="xsd:string) in the soap message that is sent from XI.
    My question is , Is there any setting using which I can add the attributes in the above form to the outgoing message from XI.I do not want to use a adapter Module.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sidharth

    Hi Sidharth,
    You post here the soap message that is sent by the client to the target URL, but did you look to the soap message that is sent by XI?
    Try the AF monitor http://<host>:<j2ee-port>//MessagingSystem/monitor/monitor.jsp?
    Because XI soap adapter doesn't support all tags of wsdl rpc-based, we need to adjust them...
    Look to the SOAP FAQ (SAP note number 856597) under question "Can I convert an RPC styled WSDL to a document styled WSDL?"... Look at last but one paragraph ;o)
    So, you need to change this attribute to one that it is compatible...
    Go to http://service.sap.com/xi > Media Library > Documentation and there you will find this xls document -> SAP XI 3.0 (SP11) - Supported XML Schema and WSDL (EN) in this document you have all the compatible elements of wsdl for XI.
    One more thing, you can adjust your soap request and change or add the required tags You can do it with xslt-mapping or create your won data types in XI without import the WSDL generated by google.
    Hope it helps,
    Ricardo.

  • Issue with Receiver SOAP adapter for synchronous scenario

    Hello All,
    We are facing a strange issue with the SOAP adapter in the interface we have setup. This is the 1st time we are using SOAP adapter in our system (PI 7.11 SP7). We are making a synchronous HTTP call to the web service exposed by another system in our landscape. The payload is send with SOAP envelope and there are no credentials to be maintained in PI settings.
    The issue is that we are always getting timeout exception in PI audit logs after sending the request (3 minutes - standard timeout value, no additional config for this). But target system has confirmed that they are sending the response back. We tested from our server OS level and have received the response back in the same screen (to verify there is no firewall/port issue in between the systems). But when tried from RWB, it is always giving the timeout exception and we are not able to see any other log.
    We have tried checking in the NWA logs as well after increasing the logging level to ALL for com.sap.aii.adapter.soap. But surprisingly, we didn't get any logs at all for the outgoing SOAP call or incoming response and hence we are unable to trace the issue.
    We have setup another synchronous inbound SOAP interface (PI exposing the webservice) and it is working fine. We are also able to trace the logs in both audit log and NWA logs.
    Is there anywhere else we can check for the logs? Audit logs is showing timeout error and we are not able to see anything in NWA logs.
    Does the target system need to maintain PI credentials in the header when they send the synchronous response back?
    Are there any specific settings which should be checked to enable the sync communication? (this should not be the case since the inbound interface is working fine)
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Justin

    Hi Amit,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Yes we had tested successfully via SOAP UI as well (forgot to mention that). We are getting back the expected response in SOAP UI without using any credentials. We got the same response when we tested it through OS commands from PI server.
    The WS is hosted by the target system and they haven't maintained any credentials at their end. So when PI is trying to access, we don't need to provide any credentials. My question is, whether the target system should keep any credentials to send the synchronous response back to PI (java stack). We have tried that as well but since there aren't any logs, we are unable to verify whether the credentials are coming correctly.
    The service interfaces are correct and PI configuration are OK. I will try the XPI inspector for logs as you have suggested.
    Thanks
    Justin

  • SOAP adapter or file adapter

    Hi Gurus,
    Non-SAP system B ->PI->Non-SAP system A.
    The request is sent from non-SAP application  A to Pi and this is routed to another non SAP system sap example SYSTEM B.
    Then B sends the response in the form of XML file to Application A via PI.
    This is sysnchornous interface. Is it possible to use file adapter on both sender and reciever side in this snchrnous interface.
    or do we need to use teh SOAP adapter on both sides to allow communication between the two system webservices or HTTP post method.
    Please suggest all the possible options.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jay.

    >Is it possible to use file adapter on both sender and reciever side in this snchrnous interface.
    Since it is synchronous interface, I would recommend you to go SOAP adapter on both sides. That is one possible way.
    The second possible way is  one end file and other end soap(synch) and the response goes back to file adapter. This is file -> SOAP->file.
    refer this [link|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/XI/File-RFC-File(Without%20BPM)]
    Replace SOAP with RFC.

    Hi,
    I want to use HTTPS port for one of our SOAP -->RFC sync interface .
    currently we are using  http://host:port/XISOAPAdapter/MessageServlet?channel=party:service:channel this url and its working fine,
    Here  we want to use  HTTPS  ( HTTPS with client authentication as security level) ,but in our current PI system ( 7.31) is  not enabled https/ports.
    Please let me know how we can enable  HTTPS  port ,let me know the process.
    once HTTPS port is enabled  please let me know the process to use  HTTPS with client authentication as security level)
    Thanks
    Surya

    Hi Surya,
    Base on your requirement ports like 433, 4022 etc as per availability to Trading partners.
    Port mapping should be done in the firewall configuration as your web dispatcher port(This information can be obtained from your basis team / will be managed at the installation time / netweaver administration.)
    80* series is for ABAP ports and 50* series i sfor JAVA port.
    Also check the below link for more information.

    How to go about it? And I am using following code for image upload. Is it correct one?
    IWDResource photoData = wdContext.nodePhotos().getPhotosElementAt(i).getPhotoData();
    FtpURLConnection myConnection = new FtpURLConnection(myUrl);
    myConnection.connect();
    OutputStream out = myConnection.getOutputStream();
    int temp = 0;
    InputStream text = photoData.read(false);
    while((temp=text.read())!=-1)

    out.flush();
    out.close();
