Preloader for pages in iWeb?

(Please don't lock this thread)
I know there is other threads with this topic. But They dont discuss the problem I have.
I want to add a preloader for my pages on my website. I don't have any flash animations, I just want a preloader to appear before the page opens so that it can load before the page is shown.
People in other threads talk about flash and how to make a preloader, thats not what I want to know. I need to know how to put the preloader on my website.
I learned that I could put a favicon on my webpage by uploading a favicon-picture and then just add a html-code on my pages. Can I do that with the preloader? How does it work?
/Vincente

The chicken and the egg.
Just put the favicon in the root of the webserver.
Any modern browser will find it without code in a HTML page.
Or paste this code in the <head> of the published webpage :
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="../favicon.ico" />
Or paste this code in a HTML Snippet :
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
var head = parent.document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0];
var favicon = parent.document.createElement("link");
favicon.rel = ("shortcut icon");
favicon.href = ("../favicon.ico");
head.appendChild(favicon);
// -->
</script>
And what should the preloader load before the page opens?

    I want to add a slide show to my website that I am creating but I do not want all the photos shown individually the way they do on the photo page for all the iweb templates.
    Can I import a slideshow from iphoto or do I need to create one somewhere else and then import it?

    hi and greetings from germany,
    i'm looking for pages designd using iWeb to get an impression how it is working. I would like to build pages with text and i would like to know if it is possible to change or delete the placeholders for photos in the templates.
    sorry - i can only use that english i learnd at school long ago ... ;-))

    The URL above points to my iWeb - spent a couple of hours with this over the weekend. It's quite flexible - takes a little getting used to (if you've used Pages then it's similar). There's not many templates but it's a good starting point.
    The worst thing is the .Mac servers - they're very slow for hosting these iWebs as many others have found.

  • Importing photos to Pages ( or Iweb for that Matter )

    Just installed Ilife 08 and Iphoto seems to be working fine in and of itself but I am having trouble accessing my Iphoto Library from Pages ( and Iweb ). If I have an open Pages document and I try to import a picture to use in that document, the Iphoto Library is greyed out: I cannot access the contents to make use of my photos. Any ideas??

    you should read TD's discussion in this thread - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1243085&tstart=90 - to see the other options and ot understand teh potential issues of directly accessing the iPhoto library

    Can I get a song to play automatically when my web page opens? iWeb 1.1.2

    As long as you don't mind doing a little post publish editing of your .js files, it's fairly easy to do. You will find them in this path on your iDisk, using the Go menu in Finder:
    Go/iDisk/MyiDisk/Sites/iWeb/Nameofsitefolder/Page_filesFolder/Page.js
    Open the .js files for that particular page on your iDisk with any text editor (I like Taco, and it's free) and make the following changes to the script code that controls your movie: (you will find the movie code near the top of the page in the .js file)
    Change autoplay="false" to autoplay="true"
    Change loop="false" to loop="true"
    Changing controller value="true" to controller value="false" will remove the controller from the page entirely. Make these changes in both sets of tags, (object and embed).
    Make the changes and just "Save". Clear your browser cache and you should see the changes take effect immediately. Bear in mind you will have to make this modification each time you republish your site. You can also save this modified .js file and replace the republished file with it, as long as no other changes were made to the page in iWeb.

  • Is there a way to password protect a photo page in iWeb?

    My website is open to whoever wants to look at it but I do photography work for clients and would like to password protect their photos. Is there anyway I can password protect just my photo gallery page in iWeb? Thanks!

    If you publish to a server other than MobileMe you can password protect any directory - either by using Webshell or via the .htaccess. If you use the latter method, the data can be compiled using a generator....
    http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/password/
    MobileMe users need to create a new site for the protected content. This site can appear to be part of the main one if it is included in a text based navigation as an external hyperlink or by using a snippet code with the default navigation. This was answered by Cyclosaurus in this topic....

  • How to redirect a page on iweb

    Hi I have an online store @ cafepress that I built with them..Is there a way to create a page on Iweb that visitors click (the tab) and are then taken to that specific page or is there a way to embed that page into an iweb page....any help would be appreciated.

    You can make an external link for taking visitors on that page or you can embed that page in yours through an iframe but that doesn't work very well so I wouldn't recommend you to do that.

  • How do I create sub-pages in iWeb?

    Hi, How do I create sub-pages in iweb like it does in this website
    http://www.e-alliance.ch/index.php?id=405
    with all the main menus "about us", "advocacy capacity", etc?
    Thank you for your help!!!
    Boaz

    To create sub pages, just ensure that the main menu item is in the main menu and then for the sub pages themselves, ensure that they are NOT in the main menu and you link back by creating links instead.
    For example, you could use Staff as a main menu item, so Staff would be in the main menu and then descriptions of different staff members would be underneath, but not in the main menu - they would have separate links that you create and then hyperlink.
    If you want to make drop down menus in iWeb, as in the site that you linked to, you can't do this directly in iWeb itself.  You have to make it and then upload various css files to your web host and link to it in iWeb etc.  It is quite a complex task to create drop down menus in iWeb.  If you want to do that, then I would suggest that you use a different app instead - take a look at http://www.everwebapp.com.

  • Aperture web gallery - how to link back to main page from iWeb?

    Okay, this may be simple, but I can't figure it out.
    I created and uploaded a few web pages with iWeb to my dot.Mac account (web.mac.com/f8lee50) just to get a feel for things. I then created a web gallery with Aperture and uploaded it - naturally Aperture generated a URL for the gallery, which I set up as a link on my "Photos from Hawaii" page (the link is the word 'this' in the second paragraph, if you wawnt to look).
    Okay, so this gets me from the "photos from Hawaii" page to the gallery, and within the gallery I can jump to the various images etc. But how does one navigate back to the "Photos from Hawaii" page from whence they came? Is there some sort of smart link that can be inserted (by Aperture?) that will send the viewer back to the main homepage? Or are the Aperture galleries essentially dead ends?

    Richard, thanks for responding - I'll check that tutorial.
    And thank you for the kind words, me100finn. I have not played with any variables as far as layout on the gallery (I did a bunch of stuff with the books, but the web gallery seems far less flexible) so I cannot answer your wuestion about the gray shadows.
    Steve, thank you for the additional clarification (and the hint about spaces in URLs) - I guess what this all boils down to is that the web galleries from Aperture are not all that useful when they are meant to be a part of a bigger overall site. I'm not sure of what you meant when you say they have little forward or backward navigation in them - at least you can click on a thumbnail to get to an image, click next or previous or the grid to get back to the thumbnail galery. But, 'twould seem that hand coding HTML pages (the very thing I was hoping to avoid) is the only way to really integrate them. Given that, I gues the better approach will be just to use iWeb to load the images anyway.
    Well, folks, thank you all for your answers. Until I do a re-do, I guess the back button is the way to go (which, for the record, I did sorta figure out myself

  • Problem publishing Photo page with iWeb 08

    Hello,
    I have a problem when publishing photo pages with iWeb 08. Upload starts and then I get the error message that iWeb encountered a problem while publishing. The funny thing is that I can see
    the photo page in Safari. The only problem is that when starting the slide show I can not see the
    forward/backward buttons. Publishing a photo page with iWeb from a .me web photo gallery works without any error message, but still when starting the slideshow the navigation buttons are not displayed. Actually if you click on the place where the navigation buttons are supposed to be,
    you can go picture forward/backward. Any idea ?

    I am having the same issue, except I do not get any error messages when publishing to a folder. Clicking on the "index" file within the folder will open the photo page in both Safari and Firefox. Everything functions as designed except no forward/backward/pause buttons are visible below the slideshow. There are text box outlines with a question mark where these buttons are supposed to be located, and I can pause, advance or reverse slides. Eventually these question mark outlines disappear and stay disappeared.
    The end result is there are no intuitive graphic indicators on the slide show to even suggest to the viewer that he/she has some control over the presentation. I don't believe I can add explanatory text boxes to the slide show to compensate for the missing icons. This lack of visible control elements in the slide show is a huge issue. I am reasonable sure the problem does not reside within my computer. I've also reviewed inspector control options for a photo page/slide show and haven't gotten any combination of check boxes to make a difference.
    I'm beginning to think this may be an unexpected conflict that was contained within a recent software update. It might well be worth a close look at programming code by Apple technicians. In the meantime, can anyone offer a clue as to what might be going on?

    I see an pdf and flv file in the image list, remove them.
    Rewrite the code of your loading bar into one solid procedure which can be called from image loaded so you end up with three functions:
    loadImage
    imageLoaded
    displayProgressBar
    Maybe it's simpler not to display a progressbar but to display a text like XX loaded from XX images.
    I can't possibly write all the code for you but to adjust the loading bar use the image object instead of html code....
    preloadingImg = new Image();
    preloadingImg.src = "img/dot.jpg"   //whatever your preloader img is
    //To place your loading bar somewhere in the document:
    parentElement.addChildNode(preloadingImg);   //where parentElement is the container of the preloader image ( a DIV tag or whatever)
    //to adjust the width and height
    preloadingImg.height = someHeight + 'px';
    preloadingImg.width = someWidth + 'px'
    Another alternative is indeed use jQuery.

  • Creating sub-pages in iWeb'09?

    Hello!
    i've just starte using iWeb, and trying to create my own web page. I can't find a solution on the above: how can i create "sub-pages"? For example: I want to create a main page called Photos (appearing in main menu bar), and UNDER this page i want to create "sub-pages" called photos1, photos2, photos3, etc. (appearing UNDER Photos page).
    How can I do this?
    Thanks,
    Bazsi21

    Hello:
    I just read your post regarding creating web pages in iweb. This is something i have been trying to do also. Do you happen to know whether there's a way of creating sub pages from the main navigation menu, rather than pasting hyperlinks into the page. If i create an envertainment magazine, and one section is "movies", then I want all articles on movies to fall within that category, WOuld be far easier if visitors click on 'movies' link in navigation bar, and then see the list of articles. Is there a way to do this in iweb?
    If not, i am wondering why Apple didn't include this basic necessity when creating the program.
    I look forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks.

  • Links within pages in iWeb

    Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I can't figure out how to create hyperlinks within a page in iWeb. Specifically, I'm trying to write a FAQ, and want to link individual questions listed at the top of the page with their answers further down in the page. Help???

    Those are called anchors and not supported by iWeb. Put in a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html.
    It can be done with HTML snippets and javascript as Cyclosaurus mentions here: http://widgets.cyclosaurus.com/Anchors/Anchorsfiles/widget0markup.html. But one must be proficient with javascript.
    There's a crude workaround with snippets that Peter Berglund describes in his blog: http://web.me.com/petber/iWebtips/iWeb_Tips/Entries/2009/2/22_How_to_use_Anchors_iniWeb.html. This Contents page uses that method for some of it's links - those that are green.
    Alternate solutions are with using rollovers like shown in this demo page: Show and Hide Text or using Fancy Zoom shown in the right hand example in this page: FancyZoom You could replace the photo with an image that says Click for Answer" or whatever and have the answer in a jpg file. Both are somewhat low tech solutions.
