Preloader not preloading??

Hello!  I have a preloader using this script:
stop();
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, preLoad)
function preLoad(e:Event):void{
     var bytestoLoad:Number = loaderInfo.bytesTotal;
     var numberLoaded:Number = loaderInfo.bytesLoaded;
     if (bytestoLoad == numberLoaded) {
          removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, preLoad)
          gotoAndPlay(2);
     }else {
          preloader.loadingMask.scaleX = numberLoaded/bytestoLoad;
          preloader.percentage.text = Math.floor(numberLoaded/bytestoLoad*100) + "%";
Basically, I want a mask to go over some words in relation to the percentage of the file loaded.  Below it I want text that says 1%, 2%, 3%, etc. (also in relation to the percentage loaded).  But when I test it and click "simulate download," the screen stays white for about 10 seconds then goes to frame 2 where my content starts.  ?!  I get no errors, either.
PS: on Flash CS5, is TLF text the same as Dynamic?  For "percentage," the only two options are Classic and TLF...

Check to make sure things are what you expect...
    else {
          preloader.loadingMask.scaleX = numberLoaded/bytestoLoad;
          preloader.percentage.text = Math.floor(numberLoaded/bytestoLoad*100) + "%";
          trace(preloader.loadingMask.scaleX, preloader.percentage.text);
and make sure your textfield text color is not the same as whatever is behind it.

  • Preloader Not Loading Until The Start of Lesson In Captivate 7

    I created a Scorm 2004 compliant lesson using Captivate 7. The file size is ~7MB. When I load and run the lesson on our LMS I don't see the preloader until 3-4 seconds before the file loads. I'm staring at a blank screen for about 45 seconds before anything happens. I have the preloader set at 10% but I can't get it to work.
    I loaded the file to one of our FTP sites and ran it on an html page and it does the same thing.
    Our customers are asking us why there is no indication that the lesson is loading and all I can say is it's a problem with Captivate 7.
    I upgraded to 7 because I was told the problem was fixed, but it's still bad.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Yes, it's set to look in the Cp7 preloader folder. I found this on a Captivate website and I think it answers the question.
    "As mentioned, preloaders are only really applicable for HTM/SWF output. But what you may not realize is that they will only work if the content is served from a web server over HTTP. Conversely, the preloaders will NOT work if the same content is served up from a LAN server drive over TCP/IP.  This is due to the fact that SWF preloaders need to communicate with the server to calculate and show the percentage of file currently loaded.  This communication works with web servers, but not with LAN servers."
    Unfortunately, Cp7 preloader is going to work on our LMS. I'm going to build a preloader class in Flash and call the Cp7 swf using that.
    Thanks for your help

    If you still have Captivate 6 on your PC, then make sure that the preloader in this Cp7 project is not pointing at a folder in the Cp6 install directory.  It should be using a Cp7 preloader.

    You can't. The built in Maps app does not store data locally on your phone. It requires a data connection to display location info.

  • BytesLoaded preloader not accurate for FLVs

    Hi Peeps,
    After wrestling this flash flv slideshow for the last few days, I finally have it running smoothly locally.  The problem is that on a server it has serious issues.  I see a blank screen where the flv should be... I assume it's still loading or buffering.  That's a problem as is, but when it's in this state, nothing else works on the site (flash site-one swf).  If you wait for sometimes 10 minutes the flv finally shows and the site works great.  All of this obviously depends on the connection.
    So I understand that this could be caused by the size of the 10 flvs.  I'm using the FLVplayback component by the way.  So that's fine for now, but I just want a preloader at the beginning to only go to frame 2 after the intro flv has been loaded.  I thought this would be simple using bytesTotal and bytesLoaded.  I was wrong.  Below is the code I'm using.  When you view the page the preloader seems to work, but after it runs - you are directed to the second frame... showing the "skip intro" button (which doesn't exist on the 1st frame)... but the flv doesn't show.  It's actually still loading... 5-10 minutes later it shows up and the site works fine.  My preloader isn't showing the progress of the flv load.
    You can see what I'm talking about by viewing my project... if you're on a connection like mine you won't be seeing much: http://www.ia21.org/dan/dan.html
    Does anyone know of a preloader specifically for FLVs... maybe one that reads the buffer progress?
    //my FLVplayback comp. has an instance name of introMov.  It does exist on the 1st frame, but is not visible.  It's visible on frame two.
    addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, preLoad)
    function preLoad(e:Event):void
        var bytestoLoad:Number = introMov.loaderInfo.bytesTotal;
        var numberLoaded:Number = introMov.loaderInfo.bytesLoaded;
              if (bytestoLoad == numberLoaded)
              removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, preLoad);
              gotoAndStop(2);
              else
              preLoader.preLoaderFill.scaleX = numberLoaded/bytestoLoad;
              preLoader.bytesPercent.text = Math.floor(numberLoaded/bytestoLoad*100) + "%";

    I wish I could help. I'm more or less in the same situation.  Don't know if you've checked this out but there's a makeshift solution here:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/vidgal_structure.html
    I ditched the FLV component.  My idea was to attach a NetStream to a video object, and hold on the first frame of the FLV (either that or temporarily load a static jpg of the first frame). Then use the pseudo pre-loader example above to show a loading animation while the flv comes in.
    So far no dice. My code is all over the floor right now so I can't attach it - sorry.
    That said I'm this close to bailing on flash.
    It's like pulling teeth. It's agonizing.  I've come up with a peace accord for the middle east while trying to figure out AS error codes.  I decode the human genome to get relief from AS. I can't wait till we can all laugh about it in 20 years. "Son, when I was a boy I had to program in Action Script and it was so *** backwards it took me a week to figure out a bloody FLV preloader".
    Lonny
    PS I checked your link. It seems you figured it out? Can you post your code before I enroll in 5 years of computer science?

  • Custom text not appearing on stage if not preloaded.

    Hi,
    I've added text to the stage and if I test it out using ctrl+enter, it does not show up. If the swf "loads"/"simulate load" then the text shows up, but not in the correct font.
    This is the error when the swf is not preloaded:
    VerifyError: Error #1014: Class flashx.textLayout.container::ContainerController could not be found.
    at flash.display::MovieClip/nextFrame()
    at spot_fla::MainTimeline/l()
    I've also recently added an AS3(CS5) preloader which is when this started. The library mc items have been set to export in frame 2 but the font doesn't show up. The font has been embedded as well but linking/unlinking it does nothing. The AS3 preloader is a simple script that a lot of tutorials online use. Let me know if you want it posted.
    The "Advanced ActionScript 3.0 Settings" are default except:
    Export classes in frame: 2
    Preloader method: Custom preloader loop
    The textfield is located in frame 2 of the timeline and is not referenced in AS. However it is inside of a mc that has a mouse listener on it(mc).
    Any ideas what the problem is? Thanks.

    Oh wow. It's running so much better now. I didn't realise how much memory it took up, should have looked it up.
    Thanks

  • The issue is related to firefox 3.5 but is also seen in firefox 3.6 the images rendered like a curtain effect if they are not preloaded and the page builds up in part rather than building all at once and showing

    When we traverse from one page to the other and this is not different php pages, its the same html page only dom manipulation. to show different gui one after the other. Now on these screens there are some images that are preloaded like loaded upfront and some are pulled at run time when user visits that screen. All images that are pulled on run time show a curtain effect. This is problem number 1, we cannot preload these images since the systems are having only 250mb ram.
    Now the other problem is that when the user goes from one screen to the other the entire screen builds up in one shot on ff 1.0.8 but on ff 3.5 or 3.6 it builds up in parts
    Do we need to change some configuration in firefox so that the curtain effect is eliminated, Is there a setting in firefox 3.5 that can make the rendering more like ff 1.0.8 or ff 2.
    Is there any different that you suggest we do our dom manipulations or some ways that we should not do if that is the cause of the issue. This is very urgent since we are loosing users due to performance problems

  • Preloader not working in Internet Explorer

    Hi there friends
    I'm pulling my hair out! I cannot get the preloader to work in IE. It works fine in firefox.
    Here's the details
    Preloader is set to 5% and is the default
    Project is 66 slides in length, but I've had this problem with projects much smaller.
    The resolution is 1014x713, big I know, but is an average 16. k/s according to the stats
    Project has audio. All that audio is at least 0.1 second away from the start of the slide.
    Internet Explorer insists on downloading the whole file before playing
    I've seen this issue reported on the forums, but apart from the shifting of audio, I don't know of any fix.
    Please Obi wan you're my only hope...

    Hi there
    Your mention of "Surely someone in support must have heard about this?" seems to infer that you feel these forums are staffed by Adobe support personnel?
    Sorry, but that's not the case. It's user-to-user support. Once in a while we see one of the Captivate developers pop in, but you cannot and should not count on it.

  • Preloader Not Displaying In Simulate Download - White Screen

    Hello:
    I followed a tutorial on gotoandlearn.com and followed it to a "T," yet cannot troubleshoot this myself. I built a simple preloader in AS2, but when I simulate the download for a Flash website in Adobe Flash CS4, all I see is a white screen, then it continues to the website. I previewed the bandwidth profile and I can see that it's working it's preloading magic; I just can't see the animation.
    I looked through numerous forums and I am not using an components that are exported to the first frame -- at least that I know of. Has anyone experienced the same issue?
    My set up is the following (from Lee's tutorial):
    First Keyframe (action):
    var amountloaded:Number = _root.getBytesLoaded()/_root.getBytesTotal();
    preload._width = amountLoaded * 190;
    loadText.text = Math.round(amountLoaded * 100) + "%";
    Second Keyframe (action):
    if(_root.getBytesLoaded() == _root.getBytesTotal())  {
    gotoAndPlay(3);
    else {
    gotoAndPlay(1);
    Third Keyframe:
    stop();
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

    I'm still seeing a white screen
    I changed my code as you said to:
    Keyframe 1 (actions):
    var amountloaded:Number = _root.getBytesLoaded()/_root.getBytesTotal();
    preload._width = amountLoaded * 190;
    loadText.text = Math.round(amountLoaded * 100) + "%";
    Keyframe 3 (actions):
    if(_root.getBytesLoaded() == _root.getBytesTotal())  {
    gotoAndPlay(5);
    else {
    gotoAndPlay(1);
    Keyframe 5 (actions):
    stop();
    Also, what's NaN%? I'm not able to view the progress bar at all, because all I see is white, but I navigated through my site and accidentally returned to frame 1, and the progress bar read "NaN%."

  • Preloader not working when image scroller present

    Hi:
    I designed a .fla that involves a large panoramic image that
    I stitched together in PhotoShop, then imported into the library
    and made into a movie clip, I then have the movie clip of the
    panoramic load into an image scroller (the one in the components
    library) on the main timeline so you get the sense you are panning
    through the photo. Within the movie clip of the panoramic there are
    buttons in it that then call other movie clips to load another
    movie clip on top of the image scroller.
    code attached to the buttons is:
    on(release){
    _root.attachMovie("myMovie", "screen",1);
    _root.screen._x =10;
    _root.screen._y =425;
    My issue is the file is so large that I have made created a
    preloader.
    If I load the movie clip of the panoramic directly onto the
    timeline the preloader works fine...
    When I try to load the imagescroller that calls the movie
    clip my preloader does not work at all...
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    I will gladly supply you with any code you may need.
    Thank you
    Janalese

    Thank you for your information. It worked great as far as...I
    could build a preloader and have the movie show up on the screen as
    I wanted. Now for problem number two that has developed...
    The MovieClipLoader that calls external .swf file. This is a
    movie that has an image scroll bar that calls a movie clip that
    scrolls a panoramic photo. Within that movie clip of the panoramic
    I have buttons that then call other movie clips from the library
    using
    on(release){
    _root.attachMovie("myModelScroll", "screen",1);
    _root.screen._x =10;
    _root.screen._y =425;
    This is an example of what I am doing
    I have a panoramic shot that is in an image scroller, that
    panoramic is of a group of buildings each building has a button
    next to it. Those buttons then call up another movie clip from the
    library using the attachMovie clip to show another mini movie clip
    of what the building looks like inside, and what the purpose is.
    Issue:
    The buttons within the movie clip that is loaded into the
    image scroller fail to work. If I just load the .swf files into the
    browser it works just fine...
    but the issue is I have a huge file with an image scroller so
    I need a progress bar and a MovieClipLoader function.
    How do I now get the other code attached to the buttons
    within the movie clip that says attachMovieClip to work within the
    context.
    I am so baffelled as to why it won't work...
    Here is the code to my preloader and movieClipLoader
    My actionScript skills are very limited so any help is
    greatly appreciated but needs to be supplied in simple language.
    Thank you very much

  • Preloader not working !!!

    Hi All,
    I used 2 preloaders code, but both are not working !!!, what problem with this code ?
    script 1
    stop();
    this.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, loading);
    function loading(e:Event):void
              var total:Number = this.stage.loaderInfo.bytesTotal;
              var loaded:Number = this.stage.loaderInfo.bytesLoaded;
              loader.kolam.loadTxt.text = Math.floor((loaded/total)*100);
              if (total == loaded)
                        this.removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, loading);
                        loader.nextFrame()
    script 2
    var preLoaderPercent:Number;
    this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadComplete);
    this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, loadProgress);
    function loadComplete(e:Event)
              this.loaderInfo.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadComplete);
              this.loaderInfo.removeEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, loadProgress);
         loader.nextFrame();
    function loadProgress(e:ProgressEvent):void
              preLoaderPercent = e.bytesLoaded / e.bytesTotal;
         loader.kolam.loadTxt.text = preLoaderPercent;

    You could say as3 is fixed for expected behavior. Why should an ENTER_FRAME event fire off before the document is even loaded?
    A preloader is always a good idea. Give it a try. Being there's no more as2 nonsense about using _root to gain access to movieclips and code, a preloader won't screw up your code anymore by being what we used to think of as "_root".
    Try building the stub as I mentioned and use the Loader class to load that SWF. Here's a tutorial.
    e.g.
    import flash.display.Loader;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    import flash.events.Event;
    import flash.events.IOErrorEvent;
    import flash.events.ProgressEvent;
    // init a new loader
    var preload:Loader = new Loader();
    // listen for loading complete
    preload.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, preloadCompleteHandler);
    // listen for errors
    preload.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, preloadErrorHandler);
    // listen for progress!
    preload.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, preloadProgressHandler);
    // load my content
    preload.load(new URLRequest("myContent.swf"));
    // handlers
    // handle complete
    function preloadCompleteHandler(e:Event):void
         // load complete! add to display list, remove preloader visuals, etc
         addChild(preload); // a loader is a display object, you can add it directly
    // handle error
    function preloadErrorHandler(e:IOErrorEvent):void
         // do what you wish if there is an error loading the SWF
         trace(e);
    // progress handler
    function preloadProgressHandler(e:ProgressEvent):void
         // display the progress in some way
         var bytesLoaded:int = e.bytesLoaded;  // current bytes loaded
         var bytesTotal:int = e.bytesTotal;         // total bytes to load
         // now do what you want, like ver a percent loaded
         var percent:Number = bytesLoaded / bytesTotal * 100;
         trace(percent + " loaded");

  • Preloader - not loading movie

    Hi.
    I have a preloader on the first frame of my movie timeline.
    When i go to 'test scene', the preloader works and moves to the
    next frame to play the MC. When i go to 'test movie' the preloader
    sticks after all bytes have loaded. It does not move on to the 2nd
    frame.
    The same thing is happening when its loaded on the web, it
    sticks on the preloader but if you refresh the browser, the
    preloader moves onto the next frame as it should.
    Something weird is happening here and i need to know what i

    the preloader is incorrect but we can't say anything based on

  • Adobe Flash CS6 Image Filling Preloader not working?

    I'm trying to make a flash preloader using a image that slowly fills up.
    I used the tutorial on this site:
    http://flashexplained.com/preloaders/creating-a-preloader-for-your-flash-site-using-the-im age-of-a-bottle-and-a-rectangular-mask/
    I tried following the instructions until I finished and saw it wasn't working correctly. When i tried testing by simulating internet speed the screen showed blank for the first few seconds until the image loaded already half-way filled up. It's supposed to load completely transparent and slowly fill up from the bottom.
    So, I downloaded the source file from the tutorial link i showed above to see if i had dont something wrong while following the instructions only to find it happens there too... I uploaded a video of my screen on Youtube to show what is happening to me:
    Does anybody know why this is happening? Could it maybe be because I'm using the newer Adobe CS6? Any help is appreciated.

    The code is:
    stop();
    rectMask_mc._height = 1;
    this.onEnterFrame = function():Void  {
              var loadedData:Number = this.getBytesLoaded();
              var allData:Number = this.getBytesTotal();
              var percent:Number = Math.round(loadedData/allData*100);
              rectMask_mc._yscale = percent;
              if (loadedData>=allData) {
                        gotoAndStop(10);
                        delete this.onEnterFrame;
    I did a little testing and noticed when I deleted the line "rectMask_mc._height = 1;" it still does the same filling animation I got before that starts halfway.. so I'm guessing that command no longer works in CS6?!
    Edit:
    I just tried the "rectMask_mc._height = 1;" command by itself and it works...
    I'm sorry im just new to Flash, trying to learn the basics and reading up on tutorials but they are all outdated so I'm trying to figure out whats the problem with it not loading with its height at "1" then filling up when I'm using the entire code. The height command only works when I delete the rest of the code.

  • Flash Preloading - Not Simple

    I am new, but to the extent that I have a full flash site
    that works great. I cannot get any preloaders to work. Lets be
    honest, I cannot even begin. Everyone assumes an expert, even the
    'simple flash preloader' sites.
    Why not just use the component in Flash CS3? Why can't Adobe
    help with this instead of sending me to google to get preloader
    ideas? Why is the WMODE=transparent command not recommended if you
    want transparency (as a supposive fix to the white box)? Preloaders
    are not simple for non-developers.
    Simply, I have a background.jpg in an HTML document. I load a
    flash in a table on top. It shows white in the table before the
    flash loads. Adobe's answer is to use a preloader. OK. Great. I
    found several, all of which insert so many variables that I can't
    tell what is really a variable or not. I have no desire to become a
    preloader retailer....OK? I just need a preloader. Explicatives
    removed. I simply want to load literally "video1.swf" without
    getting a white box. A progress bar would be nice. Will this be a
    seperate flash (swf), or will it be inserted in the timeline as
    seperate layers in the timeline to play before the original frames?
    Must I combine my original video1 file into a movie symbol, then
    manipulate it in another timeline with a preloader?
    Please do not assume ANYTHING. I need to get this done once
    and for all.
    Please, just make it simple. Attached is some code I found.
    Can it be edited to work with the "ProgressBar" in CS3? If there is
    an option, a seperate swf would be better as I have several pages
    that are setup the exact same way.
    Thank you.

    Seeing white is nothing to do with a preloader - set the bg
    of your movie to
    other than white. If you're using something like SWFObject to
    embed your
    Flash in the HTML, make sure it's not set to a white bg also.
    Aside from that a preloader is not too difficult to build -
    and the code you
    gave as a sample is bad code, which is likely the source of
    your problems. I
    don't have Flash 9 yet, but in 8 you would want to use the
    MovieClipLoader
    class to load in your swf. It has an onLoadProgress method
    that you can make
    use of to build a progress bar.
