Preloading SWF for later

I have a character in a game that has alot of animations
associated with him. these animations are triggered by a rollover,
and reside as seperate swf files on a server. what I want to do is
preload an animation from the server, without actualy loading it
into the movieclip. then once the rollover happens I want to play
the preloaded swf in the movieClip. I've tried using loadMovie, but
theres a few frames while the swf is loading where the movieClip is
empty. Anybody have any ideas?

Instead of using loadMovieNum create a empty movieclip in
your main fla file. Assign a instance name to this movie clip and
use movieClipInstance.loadMovie("bigFile.swf");. You can use
MovieClipLoader class to check the progress of loaded content and
then use onLoadProgress event to set movieClipInstance._visible =
false;

Preload SWF Levels into Main Movie

Hello - Can anyone suggest a reliable and efficient way to
preload several SWF movies into one Main "Container" SWF... and
show one progress bar. My problem is that I don't need all my SWF's
initially (they will be needed when the user navigates to that
page) but I would like to load them into some sort of cache for
later access. I would GREATLY appreciate any comments or

Preloader loads very late after importing sound files

ok, here's another preloader question for you people out
there. i finally had a working preloader code, everything was in
frame 2, my preloader was in frame 1, and it worked quite nice.
however, after importing some sound files to the library my
preloader started to appear very late on the stage (like after 90
percent). could someone tell me what can i do? i'm guessing it has
something to do with "export at first frame" option.

I checked system preferences and everything seems to be checked appropriately as well as for Safari's preferences.
I am not sure what's going on, because Safari only just recently started doing this and I haven't downloaded anything, nothing out of my regular computer routine. As well, I upgraded to Mavericks when it came out and I have the last version of it too. I can't imagine that Safari would close simply because I don't have or want to upgrade to Yosemite. I am holding off on the upgrade for a bit, because I heard Final Cut Pro 7 can't be run on Yosemite. While I could partition my drive, I really don't want to. Mavericks is fine for right now : )
Okay sooooo...back to Safari...what the! Please help and thanks for any replies ahead of time!

The first thing to try is changing your DNS settings - and for that you need to open System Preferences, then the
Network section.
In Network - click on Advanced - then the DNS tab
under DNS servers - use the + button to enter two extra lines
either these, from google dns
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
or from OpenDNS
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
then click OK & then 'Apply'
You would need to do that seperately for the Cable (Ethernet) settings and Wireless (Airport)

Is there a way to save print job for later?

Is there a way to have print jobs saved for a later date/time? The only solution I can think of is to save the document/web page/file to a folder (e.g., "print later"). However, I'd rather just be able to hit print and in the print dialogue "send" the job to a print queue that I can open later.
For the curious, there are two often reoccuring situations where I want to save a print job for later: 1) I work late at night when my family is asleep and my house is not large enough to avoid disturbing their sleep by printing; and 2) I need to print out a 50+ page work document and I don't want to use my home computer to do it.
I'll appreciate whatever tips, recommendations, thoughts I get.

the method mentioned by benwiggy will certainly work. If you want to an option that would give you more options, you could use a PDF Service. You could then put a specific job on hold while still allowing others to use the printer.
You can do this by opening AppleScript Editor (/Applications/Utilities). You can copy and paste the following into an editor window --

Save the file as an Application. You can name it something like Hold Print Job. Then just put it in the PDF Services directory in the Library directory of your Home folder <yourname>/Library/PDF Services. You may need to make the PDF Services directory as it may not already be there.
Once the file is in place, you can use it by using the PDF drop down menu at the bottom left of a print window. That will send the file to the printer and put it on hold. Others can still use the printer. You can then print your file whenever you want. Just open the print queue as mentioned by benwiggy. Highlight the job that is Paused. You will see a little curly icon at the very right (looks like a reload icon in a web browser). Just click that icon and the job will start printing.

Th problem with HD video is it needs a fast external interface, so you should pick a external drive that uses the fastest interface your computer has to offer.
Performance rank fastest to slowest is
Thunderbolt, USB3, (newer Mac's)
Firewire 800, USB 2, Firewire 400, USB 1 (older Mac's)
Newer Windows PC's have USB3, older one's USB 2,1.
You need to format the drive if it comes FAT which a lot do, as FAT has a 4GB file size limit, so this won't work with large HD video files.
So if your going to use the drive only with a Mac, then head to Utlities > Disk Utility and format it Options: GUID Format: OS X Extended Journaled. (select the drive makers name and click Partition tab)
If your going to use the external drive with a PC, take it to the oldest PC you have and right click and format exFAT.
If you have a Windows XP machine and there is no exFAT, it can be downloaded for free from Microsoft.

You can set up email groups in Contacts. The articles says Address Book (Contacts old name), but it still works.

I have written a win32 app to compile your swf for iOS using AIR 2.6.
It basically is a replacement for the iPhone settings in CS5.
It means you don't have to use the command line ADT or compile scripts, and it writes the app descriptor XML for you.
It is not quite ready yet (it works, but I haven't implemented launch screens yet).
If there is interest from people here I will finish it and make it available for free.
Android support is on the way too.
No Mac version unfortunately.

Unfortunately I am unable to edit the original post with the updated details.
ADTHelper works very similar to BarakHarels tool, but is perhaps a little more polished (sorry BarakHarel, no offence intended). For example:
- You can set all options (like your AIR directory) by browsing for them
- Image previews for icons and launch screens
- Auto-create/resize all icons from a single 512 pixel icon
- Auto-incrementing build number
- Advanced options (Status bar style, Display res, etc)
Instructions:
- Download http://www.pixelthismobile.com/blog/3/04/2011/adt-helper-tool
- Unzip to a folder
- Run the exe (no need to install)
- Browse for your AIR directory
- Like the tool in CS5, browse for all your other required files and select your options
- Hit [Compile for iOS]
- A new folder is created next to your swf
- All icons, images, swf and otehr files are copies here
- Once the ADT finishes, the IPA is also here
There are still some problems I am working on. Here is a list of unsupported features that are coming soon!
- Launch screens aren't working 100% yet
- URL schemes not implemented yet
- Debug IP not supported yet
- Capabiliy limiting (WiFi, GPS, Front-facing camera etc) not yet implemented

Distributing 'save for later' distribution pdf forms

I have created a _pub_ pdf form and corresponding data_set file for their collection. Things seem to work IF the person receiving them understands to use Acrobat or Reader to fill the form and not Apple Preview for example.
When the form was originally 'distributed' the options asked if I wanted to distribute now or save for later. I chose later and I need to send out in waves or individually.
The issue I assume is giving me the trouble now, is that I am 'attaching' the _pub_ file in an email, which does not deliver it with instructions.
How do I distribute it without recreating / saving the file with the 'distribute form' function - and risk having to recreate a new data_set each time, or breaking the links to the data_set?
The 'save for later' should leave me with a way to send them?

All of the applications listed above -- just a few of those I have on my PC -- silently save when I request "Save" for an altered EXISTING file. Note that, contrary to comment #6, Word (from Office 2007) is among them.

On Time Delivey and reason coding for late

Were on ECC 5.0 and looking at trying to link "reasons" for late delivery to the SAP shipment. Has anyone done this or have any suggestions on ways to configure list of "reasons" and how to link them to the shipment number? In 3.1i we had a way to do this with deadline funcitons and reason codes but it seems to have disappeared in 5.0.

i think you could try "Additional Data" tab at the shipment header level. There are 4 reserve fields (VTTK-ADD01 to 04) along with the text fields you may use.
Possible field entries can be maintained in spro>LE>transportation>shipments>maintain additional data.

SPRO --> Sales and Distribution --> Data transfer and Archiving -->
Assign document type --> Document types for late entry using bar code
or Transaction code VNOP.
We want similar transaction for delivery document type i.e. LF also so
that we can assign archive document type for the same.

Best method for timestamping? (for later use with perl script)

What is the best method that I can use to timestamp events in Linux for later use with perl script?
I am performing some energy measurements.. where I am running several tasks separated by 20 secs in between. Before I start any execution of tasks, I always place initial delay for me to start the script and start the measurement device.
My problem is that I don't know how long is that first delay exactly. So to solve this, I thought I could use date commands to time stamp all tasks.. or at least to timestamp first dela.
Here is example of what I am doing:
1st delay
task 1
20s
task 2
20s
task 3..... etc
What would be the best to use?

It posts messages straight to the system log. You can see the message, in all its glory using tools like journalctl. You will see the message, the date, time, host name, user name, and the PID of logger when it ran.
