Preparing Music Video for Broadcast in Premiere and Encore?

I am trying to prepare a music video for broadcast in Premiere Pro. However, the specs require audio (Ch. 1-2 stereo, Ch. 3 mono Ch. 4 mono). I can't find a way to do this in Premiere Pro. I seem to be able to do this in Encore - I can create four audio tracks.
Problems so far:
1. I can only import the stereo wav file onto track 1, and have to import it again on track 2. The stereo mix isn't spread across both tracks Left/Right. Will the stereo mix appear on the correct tracks when delivered for broadcast?
2. I need to export the video as an mpeg 2 on my hard drive - not actually burn to disc. Can I export an mpeg 2 video file without burning to disc?

I am delivering the master as an mpeg 2, uploaded by FTP.
Here are the audio specs:
Stereo Left and Right audio signals must appear on channel 1 and 2 respectively
Dolby ProLogic matrixed audio (Lt /Rt) may be substituted for Stereo audio on channel 1 and 2 if desired
Monaural audio may be substituted for Stereo on channels 1 and 2, but must appear on both channels and must be in-phase.
Secondary Audio Program (SAP) if available, must appear on Channel 3, otherwise a mono mix of Channels 1 and 2 should appear on Channel 3.
Descriptive Video Service (DVS) audio, if available, must appear on Channel 3 if delivered in lieu of SAP audio
DVS must appear on Channel 4 if delivered in addition to SAP audio, otherwise a mono mix of channels 1 and 2 should appear on channel 4.
So basically, I need a Left and Right stereo on Ch. 1 and 2. And mono on 3 and 4, because I don't have SAP or DVS content.
I can create 4 audio tracks in Encore, then I import my stereo wav file and mono wav file. But when I drag the stereo wav file onto audio track 1, both channels of the stereo wav file are on track 1. I read in Encore's help files that (assuming this would be going to DVD and not an mpeg on my hard drive) only one audio track can play at a time. Each individual audio track appears to be stereo, but I don't know how they would each correspond with the requirement for Ch. 1 to be stereo left and Ch. 2 to be stereo right. As of right now, it appears that track 1 is both left and right, and I can import the same stereo wav file on track 2 seperately with both left and right audio.
The specs I'm trying to meet are Viacom/MTV which is a major outlet for music video content, so I'm assuming their requirements are reasonable enough.
As for making an MPEG2 from Encore without burning a disc, here is the format:
Container: MXF OP1a (SMPTE 378M)
Resolution: 1920x1080i (interlaced) 16x9 aspect ratio
Encoding: MPEG2, High Profile@ High Level 4:2:2, 50Mbps Long GOP, CBR, 29.97 frames per second (59.94 fields per second)
Audio: Uncompressed 2-, 4-, 12- or 16-channel audio, 24bit @48khz, BWF (SMPTE 382M). All audio channels must be contained within 1 MXF track.
Not sure how to export from Encore - only options I am seeing involve burning to DVD or Blu-Ray.
I really appreciate your help thus far!

I thought about resetting the nvram/pram, but before I do that, I wanted to check here. It might not be the issue. My startup looks fine and the sound is great up until the discrete moment when it's suddenly scrambled and nonsense.

I did try a safe boot once before, which didn't stop the occurrences. I can try it again to make sure, and see if the problem stops happening.
Never installed extra audio or plug-ins, though.
It happened just once not long after I bought the mid-2013 MBA, which I think came with 10.8.4, but I assumed the noise was because I was moving the computer around on a surface that created static, since the noise stopped after I picked it up off the surface. However, that must have just been a coincidence, because it happens more frequently now without moving or touching anything.
Trying the safe-mode boot and restart, and testing it out for day or so to see if it happens again.

  • Encoding music video for Youtube - any advantage of using Pro (AME) over Elements?

I am in the process of encoding some music videos for youtube.  I'm currently using Steve Grisetti's suggested settings from mid-2011 here:  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/623549
What I'm wondering is if the Adobe Media Encoder provided with Premiere Pro (or another such program with more features than the Premiere Elements 7 encoder) would provide better results?   For example, I noticed those programs have options such as 256kbps audio, 2-pass, and Variable Bit Rate (which PE7 doesn't seem to have).  Would that provide better quality?  Of course, I need the very best audio possible.
Also, I've read from various other people's suggestions, that FLV is a better export choice than h264 since less recoding by Youtube is done- any truth to that?
Lastly, would exporting to 1080 instead of 720 (and therefore giving youtube users the option of choosing either 1080 or 720) be better for the long term, or is there any reason why 720 is suggested?
My videos are short and were edited from DVD vob files.  I've very new to encoding so really appreciate the suggestions!
    Thanks!

I doubt that even a discerning ear to tell the original source Audio, after YouTube gets through Transcoding it for display. Also, viewers will be listening through their computer's speakers, and not a full home theater setup, where the Bit-Rate might make a slight difference. Also, most folk today, think that MP3's through ear-buds are "high fidelity."
The only plus for using AME is that once you have queued the Project up, you can do other things, while it is processing the file.
    Good luck,

  • What is the best way to export a video for broadcast using FCE?  H264?

I need to get the best quality HD video for broadcast using final cut express and I need to know all info and settings please?

    Hello,
You need to find out from the broadcaster what specs they require you to meet.  H.264 is probably not it.

  • Best workflow between Premiere and Encore for subtitling...

    Hello All,
I switched from FCP and DVDS Pro to Premiere and Encore but having trouble to get the same workflow for the type of work we do here,
We deal with lots of foreign films that will be distributed on DVDs and streamed via places like Xbox, PSN and such.
We tried by starting by laying the final edit of the film in Premiere and placing subs.  We found out that there was no easy way to export the video track as an stl or compatible format so we outputted the film and used subrip to create an srt which worked ok when we brought it over to DVDSP but subrip always generates lots of bad text which has to be manually fixed.  I than decided lets try Encore cause it must be more compatible with Premiere for transferring info between the two but have not found a good way to do this yet.
What would be the best work flow between the two programs so you can create a DVD with subs and also have movie with a sub track that can be outputted for VOD besides having to do the work twice?  I am sure many production houses have this need.
Thank you all for reading and look forward to some ideas.  We are using CS6.
    -john

To the best of my knowledge, you will have to use a non-Adobe app for creating the subtitle file.  Once created, you'd bring that into Encore for disk creation.  I'm not sure you can create a file for VOD with subtitles using Adobe tools.  Encore can create Flash output, but that's probably not the best choice here.

  • Please help me... music or play video, it pauses music/video for few seconds (2-7sec). kindly help what i need to do... will appreciate much...thank u  my MBP specs: 13 inch early 2011 2.3 ghz intel

please help me... im having troubles using itunes, When i start listening music or play video, it pauses music/video for few seconds (2-7sec).
kindly help what i need to do... will appreciate much...thank u
    my MBP specs:
    13 inch early 2011
    2.3 ghz intel core i5
    4 gb 1333 mhz ddr3
    mac os x lion 10.7.5 (11g63)
    itunes 10.7 (21)

    1. A 13" screen is awfully small to do any efficient editing. The 15" gives you significantly more on-screen real estate.
    2. All of the MacBook Pros can run FCE. However the graphics processor in the 13" model will limit some functionality with effects. See Tom's earlier comment.
    3. Not much difference. All these cpu's are fast. There will be more overall system performance gain from the quad core at the slower speed.
    4. FCE cannot use more than 4GB RAM anyway, so the 4GB that comes with every MBP is more than adequate. If you expect to use Aperture or CS5 then go for more RAM, otherwise there's not much reason to add RAM. You will be better off spending your money upgrading to the 7200rpm hard drive.
    5. Everything will be smaller on the high res screen; there are just more pixels (1680x1050) on the same 15.4" screen area. (I have a 15" MBP with the standard 1440x900 screen and it is beautiful.)

  • Premiere and Encore CS4 crashes and issues on Toshiba Laptop

I have a Toshiba Qosmino Laptop, 4 GB ram, Windows XP Sev pac 3, Nvida Gforce 7300 video. new 7500 RPM Hard drive
The two programs that crash all the time are Premiere and Encore CS4
Premiere will start some times and sometimes not. I've tried a new projects, importing a CS3 project seems to make no difference. Takes approx 2-3 minuites to load. Click on a imported video clip or timeline and crash.
Encore crashes "EVERYTIME"... tried to import from Premiere into Encore.. when the timeline is clicked in Encore it crashes everytime. Tried a new project in Encore same problem. Started Encore alone and same problem... first click and crash.
I'm not getting a blue screen just the Adobe crash report screen asking me to send a report... have done that many times.
    Things that I have tried:
Had CS3 (BTY it ran fine)
Uninstalled CS3 and uninstalled CS4. Reinstalled CS4 same problems.
    Defrag hard drive....
    Reinstall CS4
Updated video drivers to latest version
    Reloaded older video drivers
Did MSCONFIG and stropped all unneeded processes
All the rest of the CS4 programs open and run fine.
    Any help is appreciated!!

Sounds like a problematic video driver or codec issue. You need to update all your drivers and try again. Also get rid of any unnecessary codecs. Try opening files in various formats and see if the same happens. Also you should search the KnowledgeBase, it contains a lot of information about this kind of problem.

The two programs that crash all the time are Premiere and Encore CS4
Premiere will start some times and sometimes not. One interesting point it seems to open with less crashes when other programs are running i.e Outlook, strange..... I've tried a new project, importing a CS3 project seems to make no difference.

  • Adobe premiere and encore dynamic link

When I tried to go from Adobe Premiere 5.5 to Encore by Dynamic Link from Premiere to Encore I found it NOT Working and
Also in Encore when I go File> Adobe Dynamic Link > Import Premiere Sequence it does not work?

    Hi Stan,
Thank you very much for your help and quick reply and I have to buy you a free drink now. Ha…Ha….
I spent about 6 hrs. try to searching for the fix but I could not find anything except a few people stated that you could fix this Dynamic Link by going to help/deactivate the activate but I did not to try it
Encase I lose all Premiere. Do you think it will work?
The problem started after I had chat with Adobe support team to help me to reinstall Production Premium and after that the link did not work.
On my user account in premiere when I click on DL it does nothing and in Encore when I try to import the sequence I can see the window with disk activity but I cannot select any item.
I can open premiere and encore separately but I cannot link them?
I create a new user account  and also I cannot send Premiere project to Encore But I can import Premiere’s sequence without any problem?
Any Idea how to fix this by repair not by uninstall because I had a lot of problem when I had to reinstall them. Is easy to repair them?
You also stated to me it is better to export from premiere to Encore directly without losing any quality, What is the best setting for this and I will buy 2 drinks.
    Thank you again.

  • Creating video for broadcast

I'm about to start making some commercials for the company i work for.
i've never done anything for broadcast before.
most of the things i work on are for the web and for dvd.
    i'm using a jvc hd1.
I guess i'm just asking for any advice that can be given...
including how to get the best possible quality in every aspect..
    recording, capturing, exporting, etc.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks!

Wow, Michelle. You are very professional in your practice. I wish more people in my market were like you. Although, I would like to modify some of her recommendations, and add some more of my own, too.
First off, Michelle is right. :30 is not :30;00. It's :29;15, or 29;20 for me. However, with new digital video servers and automated playback units in Master Control rooms, even the big guns like Dodge, Budweiser and so on get away with :29;29. Since switching can be done on the frame level with computer controlled stuff, the margin of error is less. However, don't push it if you don't know what they have in the control room. Stick to :29;15, or :29;20 if you feel lucky.
Thirty seconds of bars is a must. Record thirty seconds of bars at the beginning of every tape before you shoot. It will help during capturing later. At least :10 of a slate is good. Mine is about :13 (I have a special composited slate with a huge animated countdown that moves to killer rock music). However, with a countdown ending at 2, you can't put 10 seconds of black after that. I only put two seconds. Also, make sure you put at least 10 seconds of black at the end of the spot. Slates should include the client, title, version or revision if necessary, date, length, and names of important people (like editor and producer).
If you use a cassette to archive your finished spots, put a "dirty" version with all the graphics, and follow it with a "clean" version, which has no graphics, and the music is placed on the left channel and the voice on the right (or vice versa if desired). I archive on hard drive using those rules as well. I also archive my bins, projects and sequences. The edit system I use for commercials is not FCP, so my bins and sequences can be saved outside of the project. This is helpful because you can always recapture your footage and recreate the spot if necessary.
This brings me to my next point. DO NOT recycle MiniDV tapes. I've found that they fail quickly. Use a new one for each client, and keep all their footage on their own tape (or tapes). Include it in your operating cost, since they're $4 each. Doing this helps you if you have hard drive problems or if you need to change a shot in a commercial you made last year. Keep in mind the tip of recording bars for thrity seconds on each tape. If you need to recapture footage that starts 4 seconds into the tape, the process is a lot harder than if it starts 34 seconds into the tape. The second option is more automatic and it will make you happy. Another good idea is to record bars after your footage for thirty seconds. That way you have a separator between shoots. As long as the timecode remains consistent, capturing will never be an issue.
That's it for now. I'm sure I'll think of more later.
