Presentation of columns in a workbook or in a query view

Hi
With BW3, it was easy to change .the size of a column in a query view and then to freeze it .
I can't find the way to do that in BI 7
Can somebody help me with that?
Thanks

Try posting your software, its version, and the type of connectivity you're using for oracle.
Older versions of Crystal used a proprietary Oracle ODBC driver that came with Crystal, but you should SWITCH away from using ODBC anyway, not sure why you elected to use it, it's slower and more problematic.
You'll see Oracle Server listed as a data source, that is generally the best connectivity to use.
Also, what version of Oracle is it, and what Oracle client are you using?
You might need your Oracle dbas assistance here.
Anyway, the error is not a Crystal error, it's being raised by the ODBC driver, and Oracle used to have a maximum of 1024 colums I think it was...been a while...

  • At max how many columns is advisable to create in a table/view

    Hi All,
I have two transaction table from which i want to create a simple view or materialized view. But the number of columns is about 200. So i want to know at max how many columns is advisable from the performance point of view.
Even though i will create 200 columns in a view , for a perticular client installation i may not use all the columns.
one more thing i will never use 200 columns in the select statement . At a time i will use only 4/5 columns.
It may happen from this four column one column will be the 1st and 2nd column will be the 200th one.
I want to know how it affects the performance and in which scenario . Please help if any body knows or already faced this kind of scenario.
    I am using oracle 10g .

We are going to use this view in a report , so if i will create it as simple view it will affect report performance. because the view script is too long ...so every time quring to a view will decrease the performance.
Are you asking me if it will? I think it probably won't but of course you have the means to test it to be sure, right?
As u said MV should be done with minimum possible column . what can be the maximum column in MV ..??It would be defined by the limits on:
    * The maximum number of columns that a table can contain
    * The size of the query needed to define the select statement
    * Limitations on queries needed to maintain the data

  • Is there a way to have more than one Query view in the same workbook?

Is there a way to have more than one Query view in the same workbook?
BEx allows us to insert Queries into workbooks, but not saved views.
I can open a view in excel & then save it as a workbook....but after that there is no way to add another view to the same excel. If I open a new view, it opens in a new Excel.

    Hi
when u open some query in BEx analyser,u can save it as a query view as well as workbook. The difference is, workbook is if u work with the design mode which will be in the left side of ur screen and query view is wen u save after drill downing some char or key figures from a intial screen wen u execute query in BEx analyser

  • Conversion away from column type may result in sub-optimal query plan

    Hello all,
I have the following select statement in a cursor compiled in a package.
    SELECT id
    FROM table
    WHERE TRUNC(ts) >= TRUNC(SYSDATE - p_days)
However I get 4 warnings that read:

Does anyone know of a way to rewrite the query to avoid the compilation warnings?
I'm just trying to compare the date without the time...
    Thanks in advance

For what it is worth, whenever you compare a date column to either sysdate or any built-in function returning a date you will get that warning.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
I will explain the issue again so please tell me the process we are following is correct or not?
Last month we created views for two queries and attched them in the workbook, the variable values which we have given at that time were month = 01 year 2010.
This month when we try to access the workbooks we are getting 0 records in the views of the workbook.
    now my doubt is:
If we create views for variable values month jan and year 2010, will they show output when we change the variable values to Feb, 2010?
    or
Do we have to create new views every month and attach them to the existing workbook manually?
    PLease revert.

  • PLW-07204: conversion away from column type may result in sub-optimal query

I have the following query in the package that created using sql developer. I am receiving the error 'PLW-07204: conversion away from column type may result in sub-optimal query plan' when try to compile the package. The issue is happen to be in the last line where the date is. Any help? Thanks

In this case, you can ignore the warning, as it is not correct. Sysdate and a date column have different internal data types (note the type 13 for sysdate and type 12 for the date column), and whatever internally generates the warnings seems to just compare the type number.
    SQL> insert into tmp_order values(sysdate, sysdate);
    1 row created.

    Commit complete.
    SQL> select dump(sysdate) sdate, dump(cmt_dt) cmt_dt from tmp_order;

  • Command buttons to Assign Query / Query view with variables on Workbooks

    Hi experts,
We want to have a workbook with buttons that will change the Query/Query view displayed in the unique grid we have.
We've included command buttons on a workbook, as "<b>Data Provider Specific Command</b>" and chose the Queries, selecting the "<b>Assign Query / Query View</b>" option.
When using queries without variables or just SAP exit variables it works perfectly, clicking the buttons change the table displayed accordingly. But when using queries that have at least one variable, in our test to select time interval, it doesn't work anymore.
In our test, we're using just 2 queries and they have the same input variable (to select months interval); but when clicking the button no change/error occurs.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Here is one approach - Keep three analysis items in the WT. Assign three different data providers to all three analysis items. If you do not want to show any query when the WT first loads, don't assign any query to the data providers. When a button is pushed, you can use the command SET_DATA_PROVIDER_PARAMATERS to assign a query to a DP so that that query will show up.
Other commands that will help you would be SET_ITEM_PARAMETERS using which you can hide analysis items and also, you can use the command BACK_TO_INITIAL_DP_STATE on data providers so that they do not show up if they were blank at the start.
Another way to hide a query is to assign the analysis item to a data provider which is blank.
For your requirements, you will have to put multiple commands behind each button - you can decide which of the above commands suit you best.

  • How to insert Query View into a WorkBook

    Hi Experts,
Is it possible to  insert a Query View into a workbook template . I know about how to insert Query into a workbook template but I am not aware of how to insert a Query view. Please help me in this regards.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Bala B...

In ur analyzer u will get the design toolbar. Like u did for inserting query into workbook , same procedure u need to follow here-only difference being instead of query u select ur query view, while creating data provider.
    Steps:
Goto design mode, b selecting 'design mode icon' in analyzer toolbar.
Double click on 'analysis grid' icon from ur analyzer toolbar.
    In that create DP(data provider).
In that give a name for DP and select your query view in that screen.
    Hope it helps.
    let me know any issues

You can add the following to an .xsl file and link to it in the "Miscellaneous" options when you edit the web part. By doing it this way, you can reuse the same style sheet over and over.
This xsl basically overrides a couple of templates located in the "vwstyles.xsl" file, and removes the lines that add the header.
(This code works in production, but I may not have replicated it properly in this forum, so please test first.)

There are not a Alter view instruction to modify column alias. To modify alias column oracle must execute a create or replace view with the new especifications.
Then, the view ddl is at SQL tab, modify it and execute.
