Use presentation hierarchy column in table prompt section

Hi,
I right click on presentation hierarchy column -> Move -> To prompts.
Column filter appears in table prompts section but there is only one value to select in a dropdown - top levelparent of hierarchy.
Is there any way to make all hierarchy levels be displayed in prompt?

Hi All,
Can we use a presentation variable set in 1 dashboard prompt in another dashboard prompt to filter the values shown in the prompt based on the value selected in the first prompt?
I am using SQL results in the second prompt.So, Iam not able to constrain the results. Any ideas?

OBIEE 11g - serious problem when rotating columns into "table prompt" area

Hi, I'm hitting an OBIEE 11g issue that's causing huge problems on reports. Essentially, the problem is this - if I dump all the columns of a query to a table, everything looks fine. But if I rotate one of the columns into the "table prompts" area, OBIEE is actually resubmitting a WRONG query. The query format changes from:

I completely do not understand what is going on here. The second query has a ton of problems. First off, it's doing some type of UNION operation - no idea why it's doing that. And the real problem is that it's unioning results from a different fact table, FACT_LEDGER_period instead of FACT_LEDGER_ytd, which is completely screwing up our results.
Long and short, I simply don't understand at all why the query should change just from rotating a column up into the table prompt area.
Any ideas?

Now, on the table being chosen for picking up "ORG_ID_DESC" might be pretty much depending on the best source available as you know. If you would like BI Server to pick up any particular source, probably you could try the "LTS Priority Group" way.

Using presentation variables selected in dashboard prompt in query builder

In dashboard prompt I have made four dropdowns(have four presentation variables) and based on these values selected,can the Query Builder generate dynamic reports based on the presentation variables selected?
I will provide the link(i.e Link of BI publisher where I stored the report) displayed to the user based on Four presentation variables.
If we click on that link can we use the presentation variables in where clause of Query Builder in BI Publisher?

- OK. In the second prompt, instead of setting Default to SQL Results, set it to Specific Value.
- Then insert '{pres_var}' in the window. I got it to work this way.
- It supplied the PV as the default in the second prompt after hitting "Go" on the first prompt.
Hi, thanks for your suggestion but I don't need to have the value of the presentation variable itself as the prompt default. The variable is a filter for a specific SQL clause and the default is the result of this SQL.

Arun, this type of design is flawed. I suggest not using it. Varrays (nested collections) have different applications than to substitute for a proper relational design.
The books issued relation should look something like this:
books issued = ( issue id, user id, book id, date issued, date to return, ..etc.. )
You should not denormalise this relation into 2nd normal form using a varray.

In Position hierarchy form .we all find exists in hierarchy flag ..when checking for
hierarchies , can any one help me ..what is the table and column name which will tell whether position exists in hierarchy or not

I doubt where the exists flag is stored.
But you can derive it very easily by checking the position_id exists in (SUBORDINATE_POSITION_IS or PARENT_POSITION_ID) in table PER_POS_STRUCTURE_ELEMENTS for given structure_id.

Hierarchy column in Prompt

Hi all,
I am using Project hierarchy column in dashboard prompt.
Levels in this hierarchy are total ->project group-> project subgroup->projects.
created a report with project hierarchy and Budget.
My requirement is when i select project group in prompt my report has to display Top 10 Budget in this group.
Like wise if i select project subgroup means, Top 10 Budget in project subgroup.
Give me the solution how to achieve in obiee 11g.
Pls reply as soon as possible.

You need to write the below code in the prompt->Choice List Values(11 g)->SQL Results
SELECT Hier_column_name FROM subject_area_name where rank(measure_column_name)<10
I had tried this and works. Award points if problem got resolved.

Presentation Variable in the SQL default section in the dashboard prompt

Hi Gurus,
I have two prompts and two go buttons. First Go button is used to populate pv_category1 presentation variable.
category_column --> pv_category1--> 1st Prompt
Product_Column --> pv_product2 --> 2nd Prompt
I want to set the default for the 2nd Prompt depending on the 1st Prompt ( Category) chosen by the user.
In the SQL default --> i have typed in the below Query.
*Select TableName.Product_Column from Subject_Area where category_column = '@{pv_category1}'*
The Problem is that i dont get any default value for 2nd Prompt after choosing the First prompt and hitting the GO Button.
If i hardcode the value in @{pv_category1} ...
for eg
Select TableName.Product_Column from Subject_Area where category_column = 'Incidents' i get the corresponding value as default.
But i want this 2nd prompt (product) to dyamically default depending on the 1st prompt (category) chosen by the user.
I am using OBIEE 10.1.3.4 and i have googled a lot on this topic...
can we not use Presentation variable in the SQL default section of the Dashboard Prompt?
Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.

But the functionality that i want to achieve is the default value in the 2nd column (out of many values for 2nd column) based on the 1st column chosen by the USER. for eg we have two columns in our database ie category and Product.. Data goes like this
category ProductName
Incidents --- A
Incidents --- B
Incidents --- C
Changes --- D
Changes --- E
Projects --- M
Projects --- N
Projects --- O
Projects --- P
If the User chooses Incidents in the first prompt then the default in the 2nd prompt should be B ( out of A,B,C Values available in the 2nd prompt)....
Checking the constraint checkbox doesnt solve the default problem...

How to bring ALL option in Table prompt in OBIEE Answers result area?

This is my requirement. For example, Please consider scott table. There is a column called DEPTNO. I am taking DEPTNO,DNAME,EMPNO,EMPNAME for display. If i edit the table and move this column DEPTNO to Table Prompt section. I am getting a drop down list with the following list of values 10,20,30,40 there is no option all. If i need to get the option ALL What i need to do?

I got the extra ALL in my DEPTNO Column which included all the values of 10,20,30,40 but when i move this column to table prompt after getting the option ALL and when i choose ALL it is showing the below error:

Doubt in Hierarchial column

I created a ragged hierarchy in obiee 10 g
it is for goegraphy table which consists of 3 level
country->state->city
now i created a row with only country and state i.e city=null
ex: india-> maharashtra
so city is null now
now in answers if i click on india it drills to maharashtra. then when i click maharshtra it drills to empty cell(null)
Now if i do this in OBIEE 11g wat happens?( with goegraphy column and not using goegraphy hierarchial column)
Kindly help me because i don have OBIEE 11g installed right now

Well, you have the option to define a hierarchy as being ragged in 11g but it's not a default setting. From your initial question it wasn't clear that was what you meant - I thought you wanted to recreate the hierarchy like-for-like. OBIEE 11g: Navigation on Presentation hierarchy

Hi everyone,
I've got a presentation hierarchy column setup on a parent-child node based hierarchy. It works fine in terms of drilling but the navigation on the column only works at the top level. The drills don't get the click action.
The same is true for the measures themselves. If I have a navigate on a measure, it works at the top level but not at the detail level.
Anyone know if this is a bug or just a "feature"?

Hi, i have the same problem. The hierarchy is correctly mapped, as i can see expandind the values of the hierarchy in tab results>subject area, but when i click on the root of the hierarchy in the report nothing happens. Does anyone knows what is the problem?

Using substring function in the dashboard prompt

Hi,
I want to use a function in the dashboard prompt.
Example: Subject Area:Paint --> Products --> Color
I want to take second letter of color, describe a label for it and use this label in prompt. The formula is below;
CASE WHEN (SUBSTRING(Products.Color FROM 2 FOR 1) = 'a') THEN 'AAA' ELSE 'BBB' END
Dashboard prompt should list 3 choices; All choices, AAA, BBB.
When selecting AAA in the prompt, these colors should be listed in the request; Carriage House Red, Dante, Manchester Red.
I created a dashboard prompt (add a function) and a request. When selecting AAA in the prompt, it sends "AAA" as prompt, not sends "a". So I couldn't reach the result.
Is it possible? Could anyone help me ASAP?

Create a column in the logical layer using the same formula that you described. Then use the new column in the prompt. Then add the new column to the report as 'is prompted'.

OBIEE 11g: Use presentation variable in Column Heading

Hi everyone,
I was playing around with sample app dashboards and I saw a dashboard prompt that they converted into a column selector. I liked it and reproduced it in my own sandbox.
I like the results, however, I would also like to change the column heading to clearly reflect which measure was selected. It's pretty clear when you are looking in the dashboard, but once you export the data, it can be confusing which measure was selected.
That is why I would like to use a presentation variable in the column heading section. I tried to do this but it interpreted it as a literal instead of evaluating the statement.
Is there anyway to get a variable in the column heading?

Assertion failure error while using hierarchy column in 11.1.1.7.1

Hi all,
I have done In-place upgrade of OBIEE from 11.1.1.5 to 11.1.1.7. Afterthat installed 11.1.1.7.1 patchset also.
Dashboard prompts were created by using hierarchy column. While applying hierarchy prompt i am getting below error
Assertion failure: levels.size() > start_pos at line 843 of project/weblayoutbuilder/viewlayoutbuilderutil.cpp
Error Details
Error Codes: ACIOA5LN
Some times presentation services will restarted automatically.

This is occuring due to Bug 17334677 in 11.1.1.7.0. It has been fixed in future versions and backported to SOA BPM 11.1.1.7.0 Apply Patch 17334677
