Presenting project in PDF with a lengthy gap

Hello,
I have created a Project, there was a lengthy gap where the project was on hold, as a result the project extends to 250 days. My question is how do I present this Project without the huge gap? Currently, when I export to PDF, there are many blank pages due
to the gap.
Thanks.

Hi StealthProject,
There is no easy way to do that. You could set the Gantt chart in the "view" tab of the ribbon to be displayed for the entire project.
I suggest in the PDF page setup printing options to
adjust to 1 page width, but doing this your gantt will look pretty small
or to uncheck the option "print blank pages"
Hope this helps.

  • Cannot generate PDF with RH10

I have searched the forum and Peter Grainge's site and not found a solution to this problem that worked.
I have a new installation of RH10 on Windows 7 sp1. It was installed as a trial and then licensed. I do not have the complete Adobe Acrobat -- only the add-on that was installed with RH.
I used RoboHelp HTML to create a simple webhelp project and attempted to generate a PDF from it with the single source layout for Printed Documentation. The following error occurred:

RoboHelp can successfully create a PDF of a single topic. It can create a PDF with Review > Create PDF for Review.  It can successfully create a doc from this project, and Word is able to save that doc as a pdf.
RH can open the projects that it created but cannot open the sample projects. The sample directories are read-only and I cannot reset them. I do not know why.
I uninstalled RH and reinstalled it. The problem is still occurring.
I am baffled. I am an inexperienced RH user so the problem might be a simple one. I would be grateful for any advice.
    Best wishes,
    Juliette Curtis

I was also facing this issue and got the same error.  After much trial and error I found the following solution. So sharing that here. ( I am not sure whether this works for all the use cases. But in my case it worked. I am using Windows 7, RH11, and MS Office 2010.)
Open any Office application. (I opened Word)
Open File > Options > Add-Ins. (You will be able to manage your add-ins from this tab. When I browsed through the list I found the "Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM" Addin was with the list of  "Disabled Application Add-Ins")
Select "Disabled items" from the Manage list. (This list is available at the bottom of the Add-Ins tab)
Click Go. The Disable Items window is displayed.
Select "Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin" from the list.
    Click Enable.
Click Close. The  "Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin" is moved to the list of "Active Application Addins".
    Close MS word.
Now when you generate the Printed Documentation output from RH11, the error mentioned in the query is not appearing and a PDF output is generated.
    Hope this solution will help.

  • How can I publish my Visio project to PDF including active CommandButtons (VBA)

    Hi everyone,
First of all, I am new on this forum and a rookie when it comes to Visio and creating PDFs, that's why I need some help. The Visio project where I am working on, is part of my assignment. I am hoping that you could help me.
I am creating an interactive system for employees with Microsoft Office Visio 2007 that shows flowcharts of procedures and work instructions. Now I created multiple pages and I added hyperlinks (to switch to different levels) and simple CommandButtons (Microsoft Forms 2.0 CommandButton) that show UserForms, which I created in Visual Basic Editor. When I click the CommandButton in the project (on Fullscreen) the UserForm appears.
For the CommandButtons I added this code:
    Private Sub CommandButton3_Click()
    UserForm4.Show
    End Sub
This document I created needs to be a controlled document and it should be published in PDF. I know that Visio already has a plugin to publish PDFs, but when I use this option, my project (in PDF) does not show active CommandButtons (where I can click on in order to open my UserForm). Though, the hyperlinks I created, DO work. Do I need to change the VBA code for my CommandButtons or my UserForms, so that I can open my UserForms in the PDF- file? If the answer is 'yes,' does anyone know the code I need to add?
I also would like to know how I can make my Shape ScreenTips visible in PDF? Do I need to add 'User defined cells' in order to do that or do I need to change something in the Miscellaneous section?
    Many thanks!
PS: I have enclosed a picture how it should work. You can see one page with a opened UserForm on the lower right. This result (or something similar) I would like to see in the PDF- file.

You cant transfer interactivity to a PDF when you print to PDF as you have written.
PDFs have to be exported so that interactivity will live inside the PDF. Of course you have to set up links in the Hyperlink Panels.
But not every reader is supporting interactivity. URL are supported from Reader and Apple iBooks. But you can't force the user to use a certain application anyway.

  • Turning Off Gantt Charts in MS Project For PDF Gen

    hi
we have run into a problem when printing Gantt charts with PDF Gen. They can be extremely slow and on following up with Support they have confirmed that this is an issue with Distiller and there is no fix soon. So to get around the issue we tried disabling Gannt charts in MS Project by un-checking Bars and shapes in Gantt views in 3-D' (Tools > Options, View tab) in MS Project
Now we're finding LC does not always pick up the setting. What we have noticed is that sometimes when printing to PDF with the same file, on the same server via PDF Gen, Gantt charts will appear, and sometimes not. Occasionally, the MS Project file when printing Gantt charts will stall in the Adobe Printer Queue, LC will then start to get Stuck Threads in Weblogic, and basically become unstable.
Upon further investigation we saw that LC will use the WINPROJ.exe if it is running to do the conversion, or start a new WINPROJ.exe process if none is running. Sometimes while starting the process we get the Gantt chart setting picked up, and sometimes not, and there is no particular pattern.
We did a lot of digging with PROCMON to see if we could find if LC was picking up a Windows Registry entry for MS Project perhaps with a different user which did not have the Gannt chart turned off, but could not find one. Our conclusion was that sometimes LC has submitted the job before WINPROJ.exe is fully loaded and somehow the No Gantt charts option gets lost, though this is speculation based on observation of behaviour.
Anyone know what is going on?

    Hi,
We will get this issue reproduced in-house and see if we can provide a patch to address this problem. Prima facie this does not appear to be a bug in the product; rather it appears that MS Project might be "forgetting" this setting in some cases, or a similar setting (inside the file that is being converted) might override the application-wide setting.
We will try to see if we can forcibly set this flag (through MS Project COM APIs) each time a MS Project file gets converted. If this works, we might be able to provide a patch.
Meanwhile, can you let me know exactly what version of MS Office (with the service pack details, if any) that you are using?

  • Print PDF with special print options of Canon IR printer

    Hi,
We have a collection (db driven) of PDF documents that we want to send to our network printers. Some document need a hole punch of some other specific printeroptions of a Canon IR printer.
The ideal solutions is a windows application where i could define virtual printers with their print options (pdf and printer specific).
    Eg:
A user creates in a the windows app a virtual printer with name and print options
    - FastPunch: Printer IR5570 with hole punch
    - Fast: Printer IR5570
    - Color: IR C4080
    - ColorBooklet: IR C4080 with booklet options
When the app starts its batch it will look at de db and find rows with an PDF and the name of a virtual printer. The documents are printed with specific printer preferences.
Does someone has experience with such an solution? Tips?
Someone wants to make this in vb.net (or c#)? What cost?
    gtx, Pierre

I have downloaded the Acrobat SDK but I haven't really waded through the documentation or samples yet. I've only been working on this project for about 3 days now and not full time. This isn't the highest priority at work. I've worked a bit with the adobe reader control and that looks like it has some promise.
    I have two significant problems:
    1) I don't want the user to see any windows appear other than my console application. That way I have it working right now, Acrobat is required and appears minimized while the file is spooled and then is closed after spooling completes. Not so horrible but I'd like to get away from it if possible. To print the file right now I'm using the startprocess module or something (new version of shell I think). I'm starting the pdf with the verb "Printto" and that tells Acrobat to print to a printer that I specify.
2)Biggest problem. I have no reliable way to change the number of copies or any other print settings. I am not willing to write a program that spools a single copy multiple times just to get multiple copies. Currently my program uses rundll to open a printer preferences dialog, and SendKeys to modify the print settings. This means that the computer cannot be used while automated printing is occurring.
Right now the program's only saving grace is that it allows the user to be ignorant of the job settings so that all the user has to do is indicate an item number and quantity and walk away (hoping nothing changes the focus and derails SendKeys - but we know that kind of thing never happens in XP :P )

  • PDF with hyperlinks to images and other PDFs.

    Hi, All.
I would like to create a small booklet with approximately 12 to 16 pages as a PDF document but wish to have images and text in the document set as hyperlinks so that they can launch other images and/or documents. In other words, a viewer could click on an image or text and then see an enlarged image open on the center of his computer screen or see another document open over the original PDF. This would work in a similar fashion to what one can do with interactive books on the iPad created with iBook Author.
    The questions I have are:
Where can I find more material to read on how to create PDF with these features?
I have seen PDFs that open with an application on screen that makes them 'feel' more like a real magazine. They are not a typical Acrobat or similar PDF viewer but rather an application that 'flips' the pages in a similar manner to what one would do holding a real magazine. Is it possible to do this with the PDF documents launched by hyperlinks on my PDF document?
Can these hyperlinks open enlarged images in the center of the screen while the remaining area around the image (background) become darker to place emphasis on the image?
How can I learn more about these features and how to use them with Acrobat and PDF documents?
In case the information is relevant I am currently running Acrobat 9 Pro version 9.5.3 on a Mac.
This is sort of an urgent project so any help you can share will be very appreciated.
    TIA,
    Joe.

  • Packaging a PDF with Files and Hyperlinks

    Hello,
Google keeps coming up empty when I search for the solution ad I can't seem to find anything in these forums either, but hopefully one of you will be able to help me out.
I want to provide a client with a zip archive containing the PDF I'm working on as well as certain files they will be needing.  These cannot be on a server.
The client will be expecting to unpack the archive before reading the PDF.
I have been trying to create relative hyperlinks to the files in question (two of which are zip archives themselves) so that the client could click on the link and have their default software open the selected file.  Unfortunately, it seems like the PDFs I'm creating route all URLs through the default browser, rather than the operating system itself.  Thus, text files are opened and displayed in the browser, directories are displayed as directory indices in the browser and anything else that the browser can open seems to work (html documents, etc.).  However, when the file being linked to is not one that the browser can open (such as a zip archive) nothing happens.
For example, I have created a link with the correct relative url to the file.  In the PDF, hovering over it shows the correct file path.  I click on it and get the Adobe Reader security pop-up, saying:
This document is trying to connect to:
    file://correct_path_to_the_file/the_file.zip
If you trust this site, choose Allow. If you do not trust this site, choose Block.
Of course, I choose Allow.  Then nothing happens, presumably because the request is being sent to the browser which doesn't know how to handle it. Is there any way to send the request to the operating system? Or at least to open up a file browser, rather than the web browser?
    Thanks for any help!
Oh, and I'm using InDesign CC on an x64 Windows machine, if that's of any use.

When you combine PDFs into a Package (Acrobat 8) or a Portfolio (Acrobat 9 & X) links present between two PDFs that are combined into the Package / Portfolio  are broken. The PDFs combined into a Package/Portfolio become attachments to the new PDF created (the Package/Portfolio).
The links between PDFs are between descrete stand alone PDF files not between files that are attachments in the new PDF.
Once PDFs are combined into the new Package/Portfolio PDF you can use the Link Tool to create links.
The PDF annotation that is a "link" does not have a "reveal codes" functionality.
Keep in mind that PDF is very much a different thing from word processing or layout file formats.

  • Problems with Long Interactive PDFs with Extensive Interactivity via Buttons and Hyperlinks

I have inherited a project which requires the creation of large interactive pdfs with lots of buttons and hyperlinks. I am having continuing problems with buttons not working and long periods of wasted time as attempted exports fail.
    Background:
The largest books range from 264 MB to 411 MB – (764 to 1024 pages).  Per book, the maximum number of buttons on each page is 16, linking separate files (subsections) in the book via text anchors.  The buttons are created using Master Pages which are set for each file (subsection) in the book.  50% to 60% of the pages in each file (subsection) will also be referenced as 2 hyperlinks.  One is the source page hyperlink on each workflow and the second is a listing on the source page as a possible navigation path. I have created hyperlink destinations for each page which is used to generate the source and navigation hyperlinks.  With 2 hyperlinks representing 50%-60% of the pages - that means the largest book contains a maximum of 1200 hyperlinks.  Each file (subsection) also has it’s own separate TOC and the bookmarks that are created  (optionally) during the TOC creation process.   As currenlty formatted, the book is primarily images of workflows which mean 50%-60% of the pages contain pdf images.
    Several questions:
    1.  How do I get my buttons to work consistently?  There is nothing worse than working hard and then ending up with faulty product.  I have been thinking about combining all the files into 1 document per book.  Then I could change the buttons to objects, add a hyperlink over each one and set them for a specific hyperlink destination.  Can I do that if the buttons are on Master Pages?  Can InDesign handle a document with 1024 pages?    I can't fix the problems in Acrobat later because it would mean 1024 fixes for just 1 button correction.
    2.  How do I stop InDesign from freezing when exporting these large pdfs?  It seems to wait until the final steps to crash which sometimes means a 4-6 hour waste of time per export.
    3.  Are we making a mistake using pdfs as our workflow images?  I'm not pleased with the quality of the images we have and wonder if we switched to another image format if this would improve the results.   Would it be worth the effort and relinking?  I have been reading different information on what the preferred source image format is for InDesign.  One article I found yesterday says using pdf images is a problem.  Another site said the Photoshop, TIF and JPG are preferred but PDFs were also acceptable.
    4.  Do I need to propose scrapping InDesign as the source of the project?  If so, what application can better meet my needs?

Those are the limitations you have to put up with.
Apple doesn't follow the PDF spec. It chooses which PDF features it will support.
As to the version number (v5 or v6 or the new multimedia features in v9), there is different support in different versions of Reader/Acrobat as the product has developed. You just need to post a message to downloaders that they need to view the file in Adobe Reader version X or above to get the best experience.
Other industry standards face the same problem: How can you add new feature like multimedia? You can't always be backwards compatible.

I have learned that there may be an issue with upgrading to 7.0.7, selecting the "reboot later" option, and then trying to use Acrobat with 3D. The suggested procedure is to do the update and then select "reboot now" when asked. Upon rebooting your system, the correct plug-ins are copied into the running Acrobat directories and things should work properly. We will continue to investigate these types of issues with the updater, but I believe this procedure will help fix these types of problems.

  • Create a Pdf with a job...

    Hi!
    A very simple question!
I have to create 9.000 pdf every month, with data present on db.
I don't want to press a button to create every pdf.
Especially, I can't keep busy the Client for all the execution.
I need to schedule this work, in every way.
Possibly, I don't want to install Report Designer on the server. But Report designer is installed on Client.
I need something like to schedule in a job the "Run product" command... but withouth the product!!!
    Is it possible?
I accept also something of different, like to schedule in windows, but.... it has to be free. Totally free.
I know how to create a pdf with reports designer, but it has to be batch and the Client has to work normally.
    Server
    System: Windows 2003
    Database: Oracle 10g
    Development
Forms Designer: 4.5.10.6.0 (yes, I know: it is very old!)
Reports Designer: 2.5.7.4.3 (yes, I know: it is older!)
    Thank you from Italy,
    Margherita

It's doable using a windows/Unix/Linux scheduler running the report as a batch.
You may find your version's help text. Here goes the 6i's....
To run a report using a command file:
1     Create a text file using a word processor of your choice.
2     Type ORACLE_HOME\BIN\RWRUN60, followed by the report name and desired arguments.
3     If you ran the report in batch mode, and sent the output to a file (DESTYPE=FILE DESNAME=filename BATCH=YES), open or print the file to verify the output.

  • How to create a pdf with the correct size?

    Hi there
How do I create a pdf with the correct size? I created several albums and ordered them. Now I want to backup the album and I know how to create a pdf, but when I choose A5 it's to big, when I create my own size it's not the size it should be. The original (made with iphoto) is a small size album 200x150mm. But when I create my own size (200x150) it shows some white borders.
Does anybody have some tips ore workarounds?

Books are designed for and printed on 8.5 x 11 inch stock, US Letter size.  You shouldn't have to select any size.  While viewing the All Pages mode in the book Control-Click on the page and select Save Book as PDF from the contextual menu.
That will create a PDF that iPhoto uses to upload and print.  Not all pages will be the same size as the dust jacket will be present in it's full size, 32.8 inches x 8.91 inches:
If you want a PDF that's designed for your own printing the type Command+P while viewing the All Pages window.  In the first print window click on the PDF button.  It will present you with a contextual menu where you should select Save as PDF.  That will give you an 8.5 x 11 PDF file with all pages the same size.

  • Is it possible to create a .pdf with BOTH color and grayscale images?

    Hello,
I am in the final phases of a book project (4 years in the making!) that has both grayscale and color graphics. When I save as a .pdf via the Adobe PDF printer driver and distill, I end up with a .pdf that only has color graphics despite the fact that some images were grayscale to begin with. I'd like the grayscale images to remain graysale in the pdf. Is that possible?
I am using older software framemaker 6.0 and acrobat & distiller 6.0 and am reluctant to change now, I will upgrade for a second edition, but not now.
    Thanks.

Create the document in layers with the background on a seperate layer than the text. Export the PDF with"Create Acrobat Layers" selected (it will need to be at least version 1.5).
Open the PDF in Acrobat, choose the background layer then Options>Properties>Initial State and under "print" choose "Never prints".
