Create a Pdf with a job...

Hi!
A very simple question!
I have to create 9.000 pdf every month, with data present on db.
I don't want to press a button to create every pdf.
Especially, I can't keep busy the Client for all the execution.
I need to schedule this work, in every way.
Possibly, I don't want to install Report Designer on the server. But Report designer is installed on Client.
I need something like to schedule in a job the "Run product" command... but withouth the product!!!
Is it possible?
I accept also something of different, like to schedule in windows, but.... it has to be free. Totally free.
I know how to create a pdf with reports designer, but it has to be batch and the Client has to work normally.
Server
System: Windows 2003
Database: Oracle 10g
Development
Forms Designer: 4.5.10.6.0 (yes, I know: it is very old!)
Reports Designer: 2.5.7.4.3 (yes, I know: it is older!)
Thank you from Italy,
Margherita

It's doable using a windows/Unix/Linux scheduler running the report as a batch.
You may find your version's help text. Here goes the 6i's....
To run a report using a command file:
1     Create a text file using a word processor of your choice.
2     Type ORACLE_HOME\BIN\RWRUN60, followed by the report name and desired arguments.
3     If you ran the report in batch mode, and sent the output to a file (DESTYPE=FILE DESNAME=filename BATCH=YES), open or print the file to verify the output.

  • Creating a .pdf with different page views

I'm tyring to create a .pdf with different page views.  For example as the viewer goes through the .pdf some pages I would like viewed as "single page view" and others "two page view".  Is this possible?   I'm working with Adobe Acrobate Pro.  Thanks for any suggestions.

It's possible to use the Page Open actions to trigger a view mode change but it's messy - if the user tries to override them because they prefer to zoom in, etc. then they'll get very annoyed when things keep resetting.
To create a Page Open action, open the thumbnails panel, right-click on a page, choose Page Properties, then the Actions tab. You can use the Execute a Menu Item tool to fire one of the view modes.

  • How to create a pdf with the correct size?

    Hi there
How do I create a pdf with the correct size? I created several albums and ordered them. Now I want to backup the album and I know how to create a pdf, but when I choose A5 it's to big, when I create my own size it's not the size it should be. The original (made with iphoto) is a small size album 200x150mm. But when I create my own size (200x150) it shows some white borders.
Does anybody have some tips ore workarounds?

    Iphoto 11 (9.4.2)

Books are designed for and printed on 8.5 x 11 inch stock, US Letter size.  You shouldn't have to select any size.  While viewing the All Pages mode in the book Control-Click on the page and select Save Book as PDF from the contextual menu.
That will create a PDF that iPhoto uses to upload and print.  Not all pages will be the same size as the dust jacket will be present in it's full size, 32.8 inches x 8.91 inches:
If you want a PDF that's designed for your own printing the type Command+P while viewing the All Pages window.  In the first print window click on the PDF button.  It will present you with a contextual menu where you should select Save as PDF.  That will give you an 8.5 x 11 PDF file with all pages the same size.

  • Creating interactive PDFs with page turn, issue with PDF

I recently watch a video on adobe tv titled "indesign : creating interactive PDFs with page turn and flash animation". The video was great, simple to follow with great results, I was able to create a document with interactive page turns that was viewable in a web browser, the next step was to then create the same document but be able to view it in PDF format. I followed the above mentioned video and everything worked apart from one issue once I exported the indesign file out as an interactive PDF it opened up in adobe acrobat pro with no problem but when I went to turn the page it would lag and slow down to the point were it was almost impossible to turn the page, the page turning didn't seem to flow as well as when viewing it in a web browser. The document I am creating is a catalogue and I am happy with the interactive version for the web but I am looking at putting the catalogue on a CD/ USB and need it to open and work with PDF, it would be a great help if anyone could advise me on the reason why the interactive page turning runs so poor in PDF format. I am currently running on a very powerful computer with the adobe CS5 master suit.
Any help would be much appreciated

The page flipping is an SWF effect, so essentially you now have an entire SWF embedded inside a PDF.
If you forget about this garish effect (which, I can guarantee you, by next year will be "so 2012") you can send out a standard PDF which can be easily viewed on otherwise sub-standard computers, and using very straightforward PDF readers, such as the ones currently available for the iPad and its clones.

  • Create a PDF with 8 1/2 x 11 pages and 11 x 17 pages

Is it possible in Acrobat 10 to create one PDF with 8 1/2 x 11 pages and 11 x 17 pages? I have two PDFs, one with 8 1/2 x 11 pages and the other with 11 x 17 pages. I want to merge the two into one PDF and be able to print the 8 1/2 x 11 pages as 8 1/2 x 11 and the 11 x 17 pages as 11 x 17 from the same document.

File > Combine is the tool.
or, Open the documents side by side; open their pages panels; drag page icons from one document to the other.
Choose Paper Source PDF by Page Size allows different size papers to be selected for the printer, assuming it supports multiple paper sizes.

  • How to create small PDFs with reasonable quality images?

    Help me Obiwan Adobe!
There seem to be several utilities around the web that claim to do this, but I figured I'd ask the experts first. There must be some sort of step by step technique outlined somewhere that enables you to create PDFs that have reasonable image quality but don't come with such extreme weight that they can't be emailed.
I have seen suggestions ranging from using the Print to PDF function in InDesign (sometimes that works, sometimes not), to exporting out of InDesign using the PDF/X1a preset (used to work ok, but now does not seem to crunch the files down as much as they used to) to adjusting preferences to a lower screen resolution—not in the export or save as dialog box—then saving as reduced size. I've tried almost every technique I have seen but to no avail.
So I assume there is something I am missing. In builiding an InDesign file that you want to severely compress, is it better to use JPEGs or other PDFs or something else for placed images?
I know it is alot to ask, and clearly native Acrobat functions are not much help, but I have several uses for this. I do a lot of book design and prefer to send drafts to clients that are at least good enough for them to look at without fuzzy images. I also would like to put together a portfolio PDF document that does not require sending through FTP. In fact most places that ask for my portfolio PDF want it smaller than 1.5 MB. That seems to be impossible.
So there you go. Somebody needs to write a book. In fact, if I get some good direction, maybe I'll do it.
    Thanks

A lot depends on the types of images you have and the resolution. You may be best adjusting the resolution first in InDesign and then creating the PDF. For the options in the export, you may have to ask in the ID forum since the export is an ID function. Printing to the Adobe PDF printer is the other that was suggested (I usually hear that the ID export is the best way to go, but I don't have ID to confirm). In printing to the Adobe PDF printer there are several options to consider -- one is the selection of the job settings to use. The default is Std that embeds all but the Adobe fonts and has a slightly lower graphics resolution than Press or Print settings. Also, in the advanced button of the Adobe PDF printer>layout (may vary with Acrobat version), select the Graphic>Print Quality and lower it. I use 300 dpi and several others recommend 600. The default is 1200 that is useless unless you are expecting folks to zoom to see fine details.
If you open the job settings Adobe PDF Settings>Default Settings (select one of the settings files - probably press or print, or try Std if you want) and check the graphic tab to see the resolution that will be used for the graphics. A combination of this resolution setting and the Print Quality should address your issues.

  • Creating a PDF with transparency without exporting to PDF (Mac)

    Hi
I need to created a PDF from InDesign that has unflattened (native) transparency without using the export PDF command ( because of the flaw seen here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/537751?tstart=0 )
I have tried exporting as an EPS and that flattens transparency and creating PS does as well.
Any other ideas, settings or applications/utilities to try?
    Thanks
    -Andrew

Thanks everyone that was what I thought.
Peter: If we knew when it was happening then we can fix it, unfortunately there is no indicator when it will happen. We get jobs from all over North America from all kinds of designers so it could happen on any job.
It is hard to say how many job it happens on as in most cases it wouldn't be noticed by the client as the amount is so small, and in some case it would happen in the bleed that gets trimmed.
So far we have noticed the issue when it happens in a critical situation and haven't had any spoils but it is just a matter of time.
We are going into Annual Reports soon as well as proffesional sport tickets both of which are critical clients.

  • How can I create a PDF with cad layers visible and switchable?

I am producing CAD drawings in Vectorworks 2013 on a Mac OS X 10.6.8. I can export these as Autocad .dwg files and read them in E-Drawings viewer but do not have Autocad. I want to create a PDF of a drawing for a client to use which will display Vectorworks classes (Autocad layers) and they will be able to turn these classes (layers) on and off. I understand the client has received such files from other parties (probably using Autocad).

    Hi steffenoberlaender,
Could you please let me know what version of Acrobat and MS Office are you using.
Try exporting any other word file to PDF and check if this could be a document specific issue.
If possible, share both the sample word and PDF file with me via email so that I can check at my end.

  • How can I create a PDF with flowing columns?

I need to write a script that takes my input data and creates a PDF file that has flowing columns - that is to say, where I give it a long chunk of text and that text is automatically broken into two columns where the text flows down column 1 and when it hits the bottom of the page it starts filling up column 2.  I've been playing with enscript and pstopdf and they can do that, the problem is that I also need some sections of the PDF that aren't in 2 columns.
I can probably explain this better with an example - assume my long chunk of text is the alphabet, I need my PDF to look like this:
    [Page 1]
    Header 1
    Header 2
    Header 3
    A   E
    B   F
    C   G
    D   H
    [Page 2]
    I    K
    J   L
    Header 4
    Header 5
    M   N
    [Page 3]
    O   R
    P   S
    Q   T
I tried generating an HTML file and converting the HTML to PDF inside Safari, but while the HTML looks good, WebKit drops the ball and forgets about the columns when converting to PDF.
Is there a way to create the document in sections and then somehow combine them into one final document?
    Thanks,
    Chris

I see I forgot some important points, sorry ...
This needs to be part of an automated process, the data will be different each time which makes it difficult to calculate how much will fit in a given column on a specific page.
The machine doing the processing does not have Microsoft Office on it, but I could install Open Office for sure and possibly Pages, although I don't know their scripting languages so I'm not sure whether that would take more time than I have ...
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • How can I create a PDF with embedded fonts (not a subset of the font) from Excel?

I need to create PDF's from Excel spreadsheets. The PDF needs to have embedded fonts but every time I create one it only has a subset of the embedded font.  I have tried setting preferences in the Acrobat add in (unchecked the "Subset Embedded Fonts" option and also tried with the Subset Embedded Fonts checked but the percentage set to only 1% in an attempt to force full font to be embedded.)
I also tried opening the resulting PDF with Acrobat Pro XI but could not figure out how to add the font in.
A method to accomplish the results from either tool would be great.

    Anna;
Unless you can add those fonts to your system via the Font book and then substitute them in iPhoto, you'll have to either user the available fonts or create your own pages, 8.5 x 11, in an image editor like Photoshop Elements and use them on pages that are one photo per page. Other's have done that with some success.
If you has PS or PSE create an 8.5 x 11" canvas at 300 dpi. Then you can add your photos, add text (if PS can use the text), and create your own layout.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • What are the best options for creating a PDF with bookmarks and a hyperlinked TOC?

What I'm interested in is whether or not there is an alternate process I could follow that would side step Word 2011's inability to export to PDF with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs. How do you create PDF documents with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs in your documents?
    Some background:
In Word 2010 and 2013 for Windows (and I'm sure this applies to older versions as well), you can export documents to a PDF file format where the exported file will carry over the bookmarks and hyperlinked table of contents. Specifically, by making specific text headers, will appear in the final PDF file as bookmarks on the side (see image taken from Adobe's website).
Regarding the table of contents, using Word's built in Table of Contents feature successfully ports the ability to navigate to a specific section by clicking on its chapter in the table of contents to the finished PDF file.
I've read several forum discussions that say it's not possible to do this from Word 2011, so my current solution is to just finish all documents on a Windows machine (either with parallels or a separate computer). The alternate process flow of creating a word document, exporting it to PDF, then rehyperlinking everything in Acrobat is just too time consuming to consider.

    Hi, beejasaurus
I found a possible kluge from this discussion here
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1008480
Create the hyperlinks in Word, save the file
Open that file with Pages, export as PDF.
The links work from that PDF.
Note, I did not try this with TOC but it worked with hyperlinks embedded in the Word document
