Preview error: SWF compilation failed

I am getting an error when I try to preview the project.
But the project doesn't have any user variables.
Where should I start troubleshooting? This is not a project I built. It was built by another developer. I am also having trouble accessing the quiz screen properties in the master slides (posted as another question). It seems this project is just glitchy.
I opened and published a blank project and it was fine, so it's something about this particular project. I have too many slides to be able to create a new project one-by-one to find out if any of them are corrupt. What can I try before that?

Go to C:/program files(x86)/Adobe/Captivate/AdobeCaptivate.ini    (For Windows 7)
          C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Captivate 6 x64                  (for Win 7 with Captivate 64 bit)
         C:/program files/Adobe/Captivate/AdobeCaptivate.ini            (For Windows XP)
Open the file with notepad.
you need to write this "Use32BitJVMForPublish = 1" (Without double codes) in AdobeCaptivate.ini file.
Note : Make sure Adobe Captivate is not running while editing .ini file.
Save it and Try to publish the project.
Thanks.

  • Error: "SWF Compilation Failed"

I am currently working on updating an old CP4 file. While I can open and save the file in both CP5 and CP5.5, I am unable to preview in browser or publish the file. Instead, I receive the error "Swf compilation failed. Note: Please verify if any of the actionscript keywords is used as user variable name/"
After reviewing some of the discussion items on the forum, I was able to try some fixes, but with no luck. The project does not contain:
Double quotations anywhere in project information or name
    User Variables
I also tried removing any text entry boxes, but that did not solve the problem either. Oddly, I have had several separate projects to update and only one has this issue. It is preventing me from updating the file.
Any help on how I can update and publish the file is appreciated.

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Did you tried copy and pasting all the slide of this project to a blank project ?
Note : If the above step do not work, then try this :
    1) Copy 5 slides and publish
    2) If publish is successfull, try another 5 and publish again
By these steps you will find the slide which has issue.
    Thanks,
    Vikram

  • Getting "Swf compilation failed" error

Whether trying to publish a simple PowerPoint presentation from Captivate 6 or Captivate 8 (Trial), I am getting the following error:
    Swf compilation failed.
Note:  Please verify if any of the actionscript keywords is used as user variable name.
Does anyone know what this error means?  I am not using any variables.

    Hi There,
Can you tell me the Operating System and Captivate version you are using?
Also can you confirm if you are getting this issue will this one project or all the projects? Try to copy paste this project on a new blank project and then try to publish.

  • Swf compilation failed--error msg

This is an ordinary project with no user-made variables.  I had been working for hours, adding effects to text when I got this msg which went on to say, "Note:  Please verify if any of the actionscript keywords is used as user variable name."
I rebooted the project, and still got the message when I would try to save or preview.

    Hi Lillbiri,
I am running into the same problem as mentioned above. When I try to publish as a SWF I get the warning
"swf compilation failed. Note: Please verify if any of the action script keywords is used as a variable name." When I asked Adobe chat about this they said it is caused by having a special character in one of my names. I went through each slide and do not have any special character in my slide names. Could it be caused from naming multiple slides the same thing?

  • SWF Compilation Failed with "Submit All" Option

    Hi,
I am using Captivate 6.1 and created a quiz with single choice questions. When I turn on the "Submit All" option, I can not preview/publish the file anymore. It says "SWF Compilation Failed." and I am advised to check if any user variables contain AS keywords. I am not using any user variables in this project. Whenever I turn the "Submit All" option off, preview/publish are possible again.
When publishing to HTML5, the error does not occur.
Can you please help me with this issue, since I would appreciate using the "Submit All" option.

    Hi
    Check this forum : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1111120?tstart=0
SWF compilation can come for following reasons:
    1) If you use action script keywords in Captibvate project variables.
Resolution: Make sure you don't use action script keywords.
    2) If you have invisible characters present in text fields.
Resolution: Don't Copy/Paste text from some other application to Captivate text fields like Project information etc. Type with key board. Create a blank project and publish, if you still get SWF compilation issue then your 64 bit JVM might be corrupted.
    3) if your installation is 64 bit Captivate, 64 bit JVM might be corrupted.
    Add  Use32BitJVMForPublish = 1  in AdobeCaptivate.ini  file
    Close and Re-launch Captivate.
    Re-publish the project
Captivate ini file is present at “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6 x64” location
    Thanks,

  • Swf compilation Failed.

How do I get rid of this error!!!! I have read through your discussion thread for hours and see tons of people with this issue. I see no explanation of how to resolve it. What good is this program if I can't use it?
I have re-installed Captivate, Updated Java and Flash. I tried to even create a new project with only pages created from your templates and no outside info and I still get "Please verify if any of the actionscript is used as user variable name."
Some one said to remove the JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS environment variable. I have no idea what that is or where I would remove it from. non of the other suggestions to fix this issue have worked.

  • Swf compilation failed error when previewing/publishing anything

I am not sure why this keeps happening, but nothing I do fixes this error.  I have had tried creating a new project and same thing happens.  I am using Captivate 6.  Anyone know of a resolution?

Can you run your Mac update, probably, your Java needs to be updated, Mac has 10.7.5.
After updating reboot the machine and test it again.
On windows, when you launch, the Captivate displays that in its name itself.
    Thanks,

  • Captivate 6 - SWF Compilation Failed Error Message Rears Ugly Head

    Hi all!
I'm attempting to publish a project using Captivate 6 (with Flash Setting 10 or 11). I am publishing to my desktop, Windows 7 OS, and the message further states the thing about ActionScript and user variables having the same name or something. I've seen the message all over the forums, so I'm sure it's not new to you. I have not created any user variables, so I'm at a loss as to what to check here.
My original problem was trying to get embedded videos to publish. I kept getting this "busy" looking icon and nothing ever happened. Now I can't even get the project to publish. Any help would be appreciated. I sold my boss on this great feature, yet can't seem to get the videos to work. Thanks in advance!!
    ~Shelia

I'm was having this same problem for over a week now. I hunted through countless post with out finding a solution. It's not just with one project but all even fresh ones that have no varibles or actionscripts. I've uninstalled both Adobe Flash, and Java, and reinstalled them. I've also had a team member open my projects and was able to Preview and Publish them with no problem. I installed the same version of Java he's using with no resolve. My system is Windows XP Pro 32-bit, so it's not an issue of running the 64-bit version and switching. I have tried all the quick-fixes here with no change to the error message. My IT team has uninstalled and reinstalled the program as well.
    BUT!!
I have found a solution which I am very surprised no one has suggested yet. This is what worked for me, using Adobe's dcache.exe tool, I cleared the Adobe Captivate Cache folder, reopend the projects and BAM, they compiled.
    Good luck everyone.

  • SWF Compilation error in Captivate 7

I use Captivate 7 on mac 10.9.2. I am getting that infuriating error message "SWF compilation failed: please verify if any of the actionscript keywords is used as a variable name" .I have successfully completed 5 projects and put them up to Blackboard using SCORM 2004 with no problem. This looks exactly the same but dies at the first slide which will not preview in webrowser, but from slide 2 it shows lots of five slides with no problem. There doies not appear to be any actionscript keywords as a variable name - only 5 user variables and they're all the pre-laoded ones.  Any ideas? This seems to be a common problem but the forums don't seem to have an answer.  If anyone can crack this they will be a small hero.

Don't believe everything you see in Captivate error messages. The issue may not necessarily be an actual variable name.  It could be related to the name of an advanced action, a screen object, or even a slide.  If the name of any object happens to transgress into territory of actionscript keywords it can cause an issue.
The other thing that can sometimes cause these errors is using punctuation characters in names or fields or even CC text.
From what you describe, the issue would appear to be related to something on either the first few slides or else something that gets loaded right at the start of the project.
What happens if you hide the first few slides?  Does it then publish without issue?
