Preview Pane shifted up, hiding top line of message - ideas?

Somehow, in the last week or so, something happened to cause the previewed message to be moved up, behind the list of messages, so that the "from" party is line in the header is hidden. There is a scroll bar on the right as normal, but it won't scroll down enough to see the entire message header.
It's as if the preview pane has been pushed up under the message list.
Anyone have any suggestions? Delete preferences?

I closed the Preview Pane and then re-opened it, with no change. The "From" line and half of the "Subject" line in the msg header are still hidden behind the list of messages.
Everything else seems fine, and I was surprised to find nothing on the discussion boards about this. I haven't done anything special that should impact the Mail application.

Marking "Read" When Viewing in Preview Pane

Hi,
Just upgraded to Leopard... I'm trying to find a way to set Mail so that when you just scroll through the email message list and are viewing in the Preview Pane it doesn't automatically mark the message as "Read". I don't want it to show "Read" unless I actually OPEN the message... Is there a way to do this?!

I'm disappointed that Mail on the mac has not added options to control Marking as Read When Viewing in the Preview Pane. I'm using Mail 3.6 (latest as of July 2009) on 10.5.7, and this is still not supported. I have just finished switching to a new mac from a PowerBook G4 867 which I purchased in 2002, and I moved Entourage v.X (not even 2004 or 2008) app and mailboxes over to my new macbook pro. Then I used Mail 3.6 to Import Mailboxes from Entourage. I also imported contacts to Address Book and calendar items to iCal, etc. Finally I can leave Entourage behind --> Not necessarily.
Entourage v.X and Windows Outlook have had this feature for at least five years. Why has this feature been skipped in Mail all this time?
Previewing a message is not the same as Reading the message. Situation one: I like to use the up/down arrows to scroll quickly through messages, and consider which are the most important. Oops, now they're all marked Read! Situation two: Occasionally I click on the wrong message. Oops - it's marked Read now.
Simplest solution: Provide an on/off control: Mark Previewed Messages as Read - on or off
Richer solution: Provide timer control: Mark Previewed Messages as Read After 'n' seconds: - <n>
At least give us the Simpler boolean solution.
I found several threads on the same topic marked as Answered/Resolved. The workaround of getting rid of the preview pane is a poor workaround compared to what has been requested though it seems to be all we have so far. Admins should close the dangling threads only after posting a note indicating why.
TruePreview was proposed as a solution in one of the threads, but I have not tried that. If others have tried and are happy with it, please let me know.

Mail message list and preview pane no longer in sync?

I'm having a strange problem with Mail. When I select certain messages in the message list, a completely different message is shown in the preview pane. It seems to be a problem with specific message, perhaps they all arrived with in a few days of each other. It's predictable in that the same message always has the same heading information in the message list and causes the same message to show in the preview pane, it's just not the right message (the one that corresponds to the selected message header in the list). I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone how difficult that makes it to find anything. It happens with the effected messages regardless what mailbox or smart folder they are in.
I'm thinking I need to tell Mail to recreate some kind of header cache or something but I don't know where/how to do that. Any help would be appreciated.

have you tried to rebuild the offending mailboxes? select a specific mailbox, then go to the mail menu, mailbox>rebuild

Inbox does not display messages. I can highlight a message and click on it and it comes up in preview pane.

I open TB and new messages download into inbox. the inbox pane does not show any messages but if I hover the cursor over the pane it highlights a message and when I click on it the message opens in the preview pane. How do I get the messages to show up again in the inbox. Thanks

It is the fact that is is only a single pane in the three pane view that has me. If nothing displayed then I would be happier.
open your profile folder by going to the troubleshooting information on the help menu and clicking the show folder button
create a new folder called chrome
open notepad and insert
treechildren:-moz-tree-cell-text(read)
color: #D50000 !important
Save the file in the new chrome folder as userChrome.css
That forces read mail to be a rather ugly red color. I am looking for answers, perhaps if this also does not work we need to look as something like corrupt font files.

Why is the body/content of all my emails invisible except for a few lines in the small preview pane?

The body/content of my emails is invisible in the large/main part of the screen when using the mail app on my iPad. I can see some of the text from each email in the small preview pane on the left side of the screen (when holding iPad in landscape orientation). The only way I can read the content of an email is to forward or reply and then the body/content appears. How do I fix this problem??

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Preview pane displays message other than highlighted in the mailbox list

After deleting some messages in my mailbox I've noticed that when I highlight a message, I sometimes see a completely different one in the preview pane (usually it's an earlier message a few days/dozens of messages old). The headers (date/sender/subject etc) in the preview pane do not match same fields in the highlighted line of mailbox contents (top pane in my case). When I double-click the message in the list to open it, it opens the window with a correct title (subject), correct sender's thumbnail image, but wrong headers and contents (same one that was previewed, not the one I want).
As a result I can't access some of the messages at all through mail.app - though I see they are there and luckily can still read them through mail web access. This only happens with a limited number of selected messages that I can't access permanently. I get about 50 messages a day, and so far have noticed this with 6 or 8.
Logging off/on, restarting mail.app and the system, emptying trash folders and similar routines don't seem to help.
Any clues?..

I'm a little surprised that you've ended up with duplicates. Those messages would have been there prior to re-indexing just that now you can see them. It suggests to me that something has happened some time ago with Mail which has resulted in the same messages being retrieved from the server a second time because it had lost the record of having retrieved them initially. Perhaps there has been some sort of failure with your Mac at the time it was downloading messages. Does that seem likely ???... The originals never got added to the index and now that you've rebuilt the index it has revealed them. No big deal as you say just the hassle of having to identify and delete them.

How to access Attachments directly in Preview Pane view

Hi,
i've designed a xsltView on a SharePoint list using the standard preview pane in sharepoint designer. Attachments to list items are displayed in a row named 'Attachments' with a paper-clip icon. Is there any way to access the files in the attachment directly
in the preview pane? Any xsl or java script solutions would be great.
I've tried so far to access it with a little java script

the xsl:for-each block is the part where the table for the preview pane will be created. In the
xsl:if test="@DisplayName='Attachments'"
block i try to build the url path to the attachments. Usually the attachments are stored like. ...mysite/listname/Attachments/[ID]/...
The Problem is, that i don't receive the proper ID Value, i get a string like '2445-5456-35464-234' (for example)
The next Problem would be to get the prober name of the attached files.
Does anyone know a solution for that. Maybe there's a simple line of xsl to do this.

"enter" key in Mac Mail erratic (in preview pane)

Hi,
I finally moved from Snow Leopard to Yosemite.
I noticed that the behavior of the 'enter' key (the misnamed key that should be called 'return', #1)
when used in the message preview pane is erratic.
Hitting 'enter' always deletes the highlight message ... that's expected.
But what isn't expected is that sometimes the highlight moves *down* to the
next older message, and sometimes it moves *up* to the next newer message.
The behavior I've seen for the last four "enter"s: down, up, up, down.
This is highly disconcerting, and I've already lost (into the trash) emails due to this ...
because as I'm hitting "enter" to delete the current message, I've reading ahead,
I see the message above (where I expect the highlight to go), and have decided
"yeah, I'll delete that too" ... and I hit the enter key a second time, before realizing
the darn highlight moved the wrong way.
I've done a fair amount of testing ... including:
   - having the above message being read vs. not yet read
- having the below message being read vs. not yet read
- using arrow/mouse to move to a mesage
There's no apparent cause/effect. About 80% of the time, 'enter' deletes and
then moves up ... 20% of the time it deletes and moves down.
As you may guess, Snow Leopard's Mac Mail *always* moved up for me
View:

(nothing else checked; I've previously clicked on "Expand all conversations",
but rather than showing it checked, sigh, it's now grayed out (along with
"Collapse all conversations", and "Organize by conversation" is black (not grayed
out, and not checkmark).
Prefs:
General:
      mail .app / Auto / None / [x] play / inbox only / inbox only / never /
      Downloads / After Message is Deleted / Show a list,
      three checkboxes are unchecked
     (i.e., nothing having to do with viewing
   Viewing
     [x] Use classic layout
      List Preview [2 lines]   (note: I suspect this should be grayed out
     when "classic layout" is selected, since (a) it has no effect, and (b)
     classic view uses a single line per message.)
     [x] load remote content
     [x] use smart addresses
     all else unchecked
   The other Prefs categories (Accounts, Junk Mail, Fonts & Colors,
   Composing, Signatures, Rules, Mail Hub) have no apparent
controls that seem related to this.
I do have MailHub installed, but I'm not aware of it having a potential
to affect this behavior.

#1. I mentioned "enter" vs. "return" to clarify that I mean the "normal" key people
nowadays think of as "enter" ... not the "keypad enter" (the "enter" key on
the numeric keypad / secondary keypad). I'm just being pedantic, I guess : )

Er, make that "backspace", not "enter", to delete the highlighted message. Sigh, sorry!
However, I found the answer.
Assume you've hit the up or down arrow in the message preview pane.
Now, "backspace" will delete the highlighted message *and* move in the
same direction as your last up or down arrow!
In effect, Mail says "hmm...you were moving in direction X before, so you probably
want to move in direction X again".
(Had there been no up/down keypress since starting Mail, "up" is the default direction.)
And if your last direction was indicated by pressing pageUp or pageDown?
...trick question ... those don't move you in the message preview pane
Annoying, but at least I (think) I understand it.

Preview pane no text wrapping and scrollbars missing, and how to copy corrected settings to other folders/make default?

Hi, (this may be in the 353 items thrown up on a search of Mozilla support, but there seems to be a relevance/sort issue.)
I don't want thunderbird to take up my whole screen. There are some problems when using a smaller window:
1. TEXT NOT WRAPPING IN PREVIEW PANE: can you please advise the settings to make the text automatically wrap to the preview pane width? It goes off the edge. I don't want to have to scroll to see it or make my preview pane bigger. (I did this ages ago and need to do it again as I had to rebuild TB)
3. COPY CUSTOM VIEW SETTINGS FOR ONE FOLDER TO OTHER FOLDERS OR SET AS DEFAULT: can you please advise instructions how to do this? (So I can apply my corrected settings to all other folders views!)
2. DONE: VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL SCROLL BARS IN PREVIEW PANE: (I solved this, this is for readers with the same problems!) The scrollbars will not show if the toolbars at the top of the preview pane are wider than the pane. (I think this is called a bug.) Workaround:
(a) maximise thunderbird window/widen the preview pane to show all the buttons across the top of the preview pane.
(b) click the x on the redundant navigation toolbar to remove from preview pane. (you can put all these buttons on the mail toolbar at the top of the whole window- click view, toolbars to show it).
(c) right click on one of the reply/forward etc icons at the top of the preview pane. Click customise. select icons only.
(d) resize the width of your preview pane to desired width, which can be quite narrow as long as it is wider than the toolbar (you'll see the scrollbar disappear when its too narrow).

look for the following line:

* If it says 'True', double click on the line to toggle 'True' to 'False'
If you send plain text and want it Flowed text then check this line as well

Just drag the divider line between the preview pane and the message list all the way to the edge so the preview is completely closed. Selected messages will open in a new window with a double-click or the return key.

PE preview pane keeps distorting pics and turns everything green

I recently upgraded to photoshop and premier elements 8. I have been having problems with the preview pane in premier turning all the photos green (as if there is a green filter on top of the photos. Has anyone got any suggestions? I can't figure out why it is doing this. The photos in the organizer look fine as well as the filmstrip view on the bottom. It only happens when I run the preview. If I click on the photo in the preview pane, the green goes away and the photo looks fine.

Preview Pane and broken link issues in CS2 for Mac. Please help!

I posted this a few days ago - but would love to have some insight on how we can resolve this issue
When I am working on html documents, both old and new, I have lost all of the 'preview pane' buttons.
I can still see and have access to the layout and source panes, but the two preview (pdf and regular) are missing.
In the body of the editor all of the images that were there now show just a broken link image (but when you save and go to view the file in a browser all changes and updates are there. The source shows all of the right info and links
Also when you place a new image - the image icon doesn't show the image or even change to the proper size that the image is. You have to do that manually and then still only shows a broken icon in the new size.
Has anyone seen this before? Did I accidentally altered a mode in GoLive....is there a way to fix it?

When you have ADE (digital editions) open with "bookshelves" page with a "Getting Started with Adobe Digital Editions" booklet in it,
enter cmd-shift-U, or menu/Help/Authorize Computer.
That will ask for your Adobe ID and password and authorize the computer.
Once that has been done you shouldn't need to do it again.
Sometimes you do need to if things go wrong, but you certainly shouldn't have to do it at all regularly.
When that has been done, plug in the Kobo; it should show up in the left pane of ADE.
Use "menu/Help/Authorize Device" and that will authorize your Kobo with the Adobe ID from the Mac.
You can then copy books by drag-dropping onto the Kobo within ADE

Missing preview pane in Open dialog box

Recently, the preview pane doesn't show in any file open dialog boxes. For instance, when viewing the list of files in the open dialog box I was previously able to single click on a file and to the right, I would see a preview of the file as well as some basic info. Now, that pane is gone. What's particularly vexing is that this is happening on both my MacBook and my MacBook Pro. On the MBP, I was running 10.6.2 and I ran Software update yesterday to 10.6.3 in an effort to fix it, but the problem is still there.

While I'm not quite sure what you mean, it sounds to me like you had the Open dialog set for Column view, and at some point changed it to List view. Take a look at the toolbar at the top of the Open dialog window, you should see the back/forward buttons, then a group of three icons representing icon, list and column view. Both icon view and column view will show a preview icon of the selected file. Personally, I like icon view, since you see all the files that fit in the window with custom thumbs, and can pick what you want quickly. If you change the setting, in say Safari, to list view (which makes more sense in Safari), then the Open dialog for, say, TextEdit gets changed too. Just change it back by clicking the little icon in the toolbar at the top of the Open window.

Preview Pane issue for Microsoft Word 2010

This issue came up from our customer. Please find the details below.
OS : Windows 7 Enterprise SP1
Microsoft office professional Plus 2010
Issue : When previewing files in Windows explorer, the "Down Arrow" key, when pressed, navigates from one file to another (expected behavior). In between, if we have a Word file of multiple pages, the key stroke is shifted to Preview pane. The
pages in the word file (@ preview pane) starts scrolling down.
This is not the case, when you have Microsoft word running at the background. When I tried the same, after opening Microsoft word, the "Down Arrow" key navigates from one word file to another (as expected).
Why is this happening? Kindly suggest.

Problem exporting notation from score to PDF in Logic 8. Top line of staff displaced a 1/6th note when exported.

When I export drum notation from the score to pdf, it shifts the top line of the staff over by a 16th note. It looks the way I want in the program, but only does this when exported. I'm using Logic 8. Anyone know how to fix this? See the pictures attached below...

I've tried both ways and had the same results. I discovered today though that if I zoom in all the way in the score the notation actually shifts over in Logic. I'm not sure why it does that, but now I know that it has nothing to do with exporting or how I export it. The notes should line up for this particular groove and I've tried with other beats and had the same results. Not sure if there's a setting somewhere that displaces certain lines of the staff or something of that nature. I can drag the notes over with the layout tool, but it'd be nice to have a preset to have it go where I want it and save myself time. Thanks for responding and if you have any other ideas let me know.
