Previewing ASPX in Dreamweaver 8

I would like to preview ASPX files locally in Dreamweaver 8.
I suspect you need additional software other than Dreamweaver 8 and
an ASPX file to do this. Am I wrong? Could it be possible that I am
just not doing the TEST SERVER setup correctly?
So
1- Do I need extra software installed?
2- If not, what is the easiest way to set it up so
complicated path names etc don't muck up the solution?
Thanks!

It doesn't work like that, sorry.
You should have this folder structure:
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\
That is the root of your testing server, or it should be
something like
that, have a look in the IIS manager and see what is set as
the home
directory. That is where you want to put your aspx files.
Then, when you browse to:
http://127.0.0.1 or
http://youripaddress or
http://yourcomputername
(this is your testing URL in your site definition)
IIS will server the pages to you. In IIS you can set the
default page
that gets served when you don't specify one.
This might help you understand it better:

  • Does the new firefox work when previewing files from Dreamweaver?

I use Dreamweaver CS3. I always preview my pages that I build in Firefox. After just downloading the newest firefox version (3.6.10), I could no longer preview files in Dreamweaver. When I go to preview the file, it just opens a firefox the application, not my webpage within firefox. Any ideas? I even edited my browser list within Firefox, removing Firefox as one of my browser options and replacing it again.

Dreamweaver CS3 doesn't work correctly in any Firefox 3.6 version.
There is a fix for Dreamweaver, so it works in Firefox 3.6+ versions:

There is a $5.00 fee for that Dreamweaver fix. That website and the fix are not associated with Mozilla in any manner. Support for that fix is provided by that that website via email.

  • Where is the multiscreen preview panel in Dreamweaver CC?

Where is the multiscreen preview panel in Dreamweaver CC?

Hi Harshit, thats only for Dreamweaver upto CS6. I can't believe it theyve removed if for CC, just had it confirmed by Adobe that its 'not accessible anymore'
Really bad idea in my opinion we work on responsive sites all day and it really helped to quickly get an idea for the integrity of the design on phone, tablet and desktop at the average screen sizes. Now there is no way to see all 3 at the same time. C'mon Adobe what are you doing??????

  • Jquery Mobile Website does not preview properly in Dreamweaver's Live View or in my web browser

    I'm using Dreamweaver 12.0 Build 5861.
I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I go
File / New / Page from Sample / Mobile Starters / JQuery Mobile with theme (local).
    I then save my page.
Then when I go to preview my new page in Live View, it shows a page without any styles, etc.
When I upload the page and additional files created by Dreamweaver to my server. I preview it and it will look like the default style JQuery page, but when I click on the button to see the content for that page, there is not a "back" button to come back to my home page.
Also, when I try to implement a JQuery mobile swatch, the Swatch window says "No Theme Applied."
I feel like I'm missing something really simple,,, but what? Is there a setting I need to change or am I missing a step? I have looked at many video tutorials online and I believe I am taking the same steps.

You're missing the viewport meta attribute. Add ths to your <head> section.
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, minimum-scale=1, maximum-scale=1">
And add this to Line 13:
    <div data-role="page" id="page" data-add-back-btn="true">
Do this for all page IDs.

  • Multiscreen panel in Preview - like in Dreamweaver?

Could Muse adopt the Multiscreen panel from Dreamweaver and add it as an option in the Preview mode?
That would be very useful for Web App development.

  • How can I get Firefox to display 'preview in browser' Dreamweaver Web-page files?

I chose Firefox as the primary browser for Adobe Dreamweaver's 'Preview in Browser' to display Web pages as I develop them. '''Firefox used to work just fine'''. Recently, however, when choosing Firefox to Preview in DW, FF merely opens to my home page. Once opened, FF will not accept/preview any files from Dreamweaver, regardless of how many times I choose to Preview. Safari and others - when selected as the preview browser - display them perfectly.

Have you tried the update to Fast Dial, version 4.2.1 or later? It should override the built-in new tab page: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fast-dial-5721/ ''(Note: I haven't tested it myself)''
If you are using a similar add-on that isn't the same "Fast Dial", which one is it?

  • Fireworks Rollover previews OK from Dreamweaver, breaks when uploaded

    Hi,
I'm trying to add popup menus to the menu bar for one of my clients. Everything looks great when I preview the page in Firefox, Flock and Explorer. However, when I upload the page, the rollover behavior quits working for the menu items with popup menus and the popups do not display in either Firefox or Flock. In Explorer, I get bunches of script error messages.
Here's the location of the uploaded page: http://www.davidmontgomerypaintings.com/new/index.htm
I also attached the .png file below.
The "Gallery," "About" and "Events" buttons are the three with the rollover behavior and popup menu issues.
I have a Flash animation on the page and had used the transparent command to allow the popup menus to overlay the animation sequence. I thought that was the problem, so I removed the transparent parameter and used Fireworks to located the popup menus above the animation sequence. Same result.
I had the "Use CSS for Popup Menus" and the "Write CSS to an external file" options turned off in Fireworks because we are avoiding CSS on this site (easier for client to edit later on). I went in and turned both of those on, wrote new html code from Fireworks, opened Dreamweaver and used the edit in fireworks option to update the html code changes. Same result.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is? Help. This is getting really frustrating.

Actually, this did help the rollover behavior.
However, the popups still do not show up on the
page I was editing, the new index page. Weirdly
enough, if you click on any other page on the
entire site, the pop up menus now work. They
didn't before. And I didn't make any edits on any
page other than the index page, they work as
originally designed and use all the code from the
original (ie. last week's) Fireworks menu bar file.
So, I don't quite get it. If the.js and .css
files were written based upon the new Fireworks
menu bar I created via the editing today, and
this is what I uploaded, why would that make the
original menu bar work? These pages even work in
Internet explorer now. The only page that doesn't
work is the index.htm page, the one I've been
messing with all day! LOL Maybe I need to go back
to my idea that this is linked to the Flash
    animation and the transparent parameter.
By the way, I tried copying the table with the
menu bar from one of the working pages to the index page with no luck.
Thanks for the idea though. It may have gotten me
part way to the final solution.

  • Using aspx with Dreamweaver CC

I am pretty new to Dreamweaver, although I used the Macromedia tool a few years ago to build a personal site. Not real up-to-date now in my knowledge. I have Dreamweaver CC.
I am trying to help a friend with a PayPal error. I thought that Dreamweaver might be a good tool to work with this until I discovered that his site was developed using aspx. I can't even see the files in Dreamweaver. Information for this is a bit confusing. Can I get a nudge in the right direction.

    Hi sfz25,
In addition to what Murray said, you can use the ASP extension to work with ASP files. See Dreamweaver CC: New Document .asp ? for more information.
    Thanks,

  • Unable to preview flv in Dreamweaver

    Hi,
I have created a small slideshow in Flash, exported as an flv file then inserted into Dreamweaver CS3. The file plays fine is Flash, but doesn't preview in Dreamweaver - there is just a black space where the slideshow should be.
Any ideas, I am new to Dreamweaver so could possibly be missing a step?

This is the code that Dreamweaver brings in when I import the flv - not sure if this is any help?

  • Aspx  and Dreamweaver

This week I set up a login page, registration page, etc. I
did the second part with Visual Studio 2005 web service and ASP.NET
    . So that is done.
Now my question is how do I incorporate aspx
pages(registration, login,) with my Dreamweaver web site?
I thought maybe I would have to move the whole VS folder into
the Inetpub->wwwroot folder? And then maybe open up dreamweaver
and link the pages. But that is a hypothetical guess.
    What I am wanting to do is when a person comes to my page;
they will see the first page(which is the index page), and then
when they click enter(which is currently set to go straight to
video page); I want it to lead them to the login page.

    > I guess this is going to be alot of work somehow
    switching over my
    > complete Dreamweaver site to aspx pages?
There is nothing proprietary about Dreamweaver. It's just a
    text editor.
If your pages are just HTML pages, then it's trivial to make
    them into ASPX
pages that inherit your application's security code.
On the other hand, if they are PHP or some other server-side
    programming
language, then they'd have to be re-written in ASP.net to
    work with
    ASP.net's security portion.

If your container has a width in %,  add one of these rules to your CSS code.
/**This re-scales images to any size browser width**/
    img {width:100%}
/**this re-scales images  up to the native file size only**/
    img {max-width:100%}
Also remove height and width attributes from your <img> HTML code.  Otherwise this won't work.

  • How to display XSL file to ASPX in dreamweaver

    Hi,
Just wondering how to display XSL file in ASPX page?
I normally do it in ASP page by using server behaviour XSLT transformation and bind it to ASP page and this works very well.
Now I am trying to use the same method and using ASPX page this time but this time there is no option from server behaviour where I can bind it to my ASPX.
Can someone help or perhaps let me know where I can find the information how to do it?
    Thanks,
    Rush O

You mean you want to see the XML source?
You need to replace the characters '<' and '&' with corresponding entities '&lt;' and '&amp;'. You can use replaceAll, but do the ampersands first.
Then I suggest you probably want to put them in a <PRE> block.
