Primary key enable error

hi,
SQL> alter table SERVRECD4 enable constraint SERVRECD4_I0;
alter table SERVRECD4 enable constraint SERVRECD4_I0
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-02437: cannot validate (MUSADMIN.SERVRECD4_I0) - primary key violated
SQL> select constraint_name from user_constraints where status<>'ENABLED';
CONSTRAINT_NAME
SERVRECD4_I0
I tried to check duplicates in this composite PK using following query:
select FK_SERVRECD1NORAPA, FK_SERVRECD1FK_JO0, FK_SERVRECD1FK_JOB, FK_SERVRECD1ID from SERVRECD4 where row id NOT IN (select MIN(rowid) from SERVRECD4 group by FK_SERVRECD1NORAPA, FK_SERVRECD1FK_JO0, FK_SERVRECD1FK_JOB, FK_SERVRECD1ID);
Result : No rows returned.
Then i checked it and records aer same for below query as in table so it means NO duplicates then i don't seem to figure out why when trying to ENABLE constraint raises Above error.
SQL> select count(min(rowid)) from SERVRECD4 group by FK_SERVRECD1NORAPA, FK_SERVRECD1FK_JO0, FK_SERVRECD1FK_JOB, FK_SERVRECD1ID;
COUNT(MIN(ROWID))

A little modification in my early query ->

  • Issue with INSERT INTO, throws primary key violation error even if the target table is empty

    Hi,
    I am running a simple
    INSERT INTO Table 1 (column 1, column 2, ....., column n)
    SELECT column 1, column 2, ....., column n FROM Table 2
    Table 1 and Table 2 have same definition(schema).
    Table 1 is empty and Table 2 has all the data. Column 1 is primary key and there is NO identity column.
    This statement still throws Primary key violation error. Am clueless about this?
    How can this happen when the target table is totally empty?
    Chintu

    Nope thats not true
    Either you're not inserting to the right table or in the background some other trigger code is getting fired which is inserting into some table which causes a PK violation.

  • How to avoid primary key insert error and pipe those would-be error rows to a separate table?

    Hi All,
    Question: How can I ID duplicate values in a particular column before generating a "Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint" error?
    Background: this SSIS package pulls rows from a remote server table for an insert to a local table.  The local table is truncated in step 1 of this package.  One of the source columns, "ProductName," is a varchar(50) NOT NULL, with no
    constraints at all.  In the destination table, that column has a primary key constraint.  Even so, we don't expect duplicate primary key inserts due to the source data query.  Nevertheless, I've been
    tasked with identifying any duplicate ProductName values that may try to get inserted, piping them all to a "DuplicateInsertAttempt_ProductName" table, and sending an email to the interested parties.  Since I have no way of knowing which row
    should be imported and which should not, I assume the best method is to pipe all rows with a duplicate ProductName out so somebody else can determine which is right and which is wrong, at which point we'll need to improve the query of the source table.
    What's the proper way to do this?  I assume the "DuplicateInsertAttempt_ProductName" table needs identical schema to the import target table, but without any constraints.  I also assume I must ID the duplicate values before attempting
    the import so that no error is generated, but I'm not sure how to do this.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    agree about preventing a dupe or other error on some inconsequential dimension from killing a data mart load that takes a few hrs to run and is an important reporting system.
    I looked into using the error output before, but i think it came up a bit short...
    This is going from memory from a few years ago, but the columnid that comes out of the error data flow is an internal id for the column in the buffer that can't be easily used to get the column name.
    No 'in flight'/in-process way exists to get the column name via something like thisbuffer.column[columnid].name unfortunately
    In theory, the only way to get the column name was to initialise another version of the package (via loading the .dtsx xml) using the SMO .net libraries. I say in theory because I stopped considering it an option at that point
    And the error code is fairly generic as well if i remember correctly. It's not the error that comes out of the db (Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'x'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.y'. The duplicate key value is (y).)  It's a generic
    'insert failed'/'a constraint failed' type msg.
    I usually leave the default ssis logging to handle all errors (and log them in the sysssislog table), and then I explicitly handle specific exceptions like dupes that I don't want to fail package/parent on error

  • Partition exchange with Primary Key Enabled : is it possible ?

    Hello everybody.
    I have succeeded "exchange...INCLUDING INDEXES WITH VALIDATION" a single table with a partition when primary key of the single table and the partitioned table are both Disabled and Validated.
    I am trying now to do the same thing but with the 2 primary keys Enabled. Because of the global index générated by the Enabled PK, i "exchange ... including indexes with validation update global indexes" : it doesn't work : "ORA-14098: index mismatch for tables in ALTER TABLE EXCHANGE PARTITION".
    But indexes are the same (thanks OEM) that in the previous test, all attributes of the 2 PKs are the same.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    For those interested. I finally found the solution elsewhere in the documentation.
    If the PK of the partitioned is enabled, the primary key of the single table has to be Disabled and Validated.

  • Key value does not currently exist in the primary key table error

    Im testing out a form and creating a new insert once all the fields are filled in it wont allow me to move on and comes up with this error message;
    key value does not currently exist in the primary key table
    Is this becuase the form contains foriegn keys which reference different tables which fields are not dispalyed on this form?
    If so how to I link the other forms together so that when i create a new record in this form it will automaticaly create the primary key entry in the other form to allow the insert of the referenced foreign key in this form?
    does this make sense?

    It seems that it has the table in which you'r inserting is a foreign key table.
    Take the emp& dept table example in the schema scott/tiger.
    Say we have deptno 10, 20, 30, 40 in the dept table.
    We make a form for emp table and insert into this form.
    Now, we'r bound to insert deptno 10, 20, 30, 40 into this emp form. This form will not allow us to insert deptno 50 as it doesn't exist in the primary key column in dept table.
    Obviously if a department doesn't exist in the company, it doesn't make sense to assign the employees to that department.
    So for this purpose, we need to add a department in the dept table then we can insert values in the emp table for that department.
    For this purpose, I suggest to make a button on the mp form and invoke the dept form and add a new department to it and then insert into emp table.
    The same scenario can be applied in your case.

  • ODI Selective Reverse throws Primary Key Violation error

    Hi John,
    Hope you are doing good.
    The version of ODI  is 10.1.3.4.5
    I was trying to reverse an MS SQL table using selective reverse and its throwing the below error
    com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_COL'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.SNP_COL'.
    Also the error says - Technology or Driver does not support Reverse engineering
    I reversed the same table yesterday and it went fine. But today i wanted to reverse an another table from the same database but its giving an error. I tried deleting the Model itself and tried reversing the both tables and now its not reversing the first on either.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,

    dear
    you have performed more than once the same reverse engineering.
    If the problem is a doubling in snp * repository, you could delete rows via plsql this process and try again

  • Primary Key rule Violation error while Insert Record in Compact DB

    Hi All,
    I have One Table in Server Name "Student"  when i Synchronize this with the help of Microsoft Synchronization Framework
    same Table schema with Data has been create in CompactDataBase.
    When i insert data in CompactDataDase it give me Primary Key Violation error.
    Please Suggest
    Example
    Table Structure is as Follows:-
    Create Table Student(
    [Emp_id] int IDENTITY(1,1) NotNull,[Emp_Name] int NOTNULL );insert into Student Values('John');insert into Student Values('Joe');Thanks & RegardsNamit Jain

    try this and see if it solves,
    also, Emp_name data type is int. it should be varchar.
    I suspect the reason is because you already have some data in student table but you identity seeds were not updated and hence it is trying to insert a row with emp_id value that already exists.and hence the primary key violation. also, your table DDL did
    not really have an primary key but it would still error since you are inserting duplicate row in the identity column.
    so, try resetting the identity seed value to the max(emp_id) in the table.
    select max(Emp_ID) from  student
    --use the output of the above statement
    DBCC CHECKIDENT ('Student', RESEED,<<--use the output of the above statement-->>)
    --your max(emp_id) should match with last_value column in the below( do not if this query would run in compact DB though)
    select seed_value,increment_value,last_value from sys.identity_columns where object_id=object_id('Student')
    now, try your insert.
    Hope it Helps!!

    when I mark this attribute in the entity as primary key .
    this error appear
    when I remove it the page run with no problem.
    The model run with no problem
    What is the problem about this.

    Do I get you right that you have changes the pk of the EO successfully and you see the error when running the app with the changed EO?
    Have you checked if the change of the PK was distributed to the VO too?
    Sometimes it helps to remove the component bound to the VO in question from the page and put it back on again.

  • Problem with the primary key

    Hi All,
    I have a table with the same data repeating 2 times. I mean the rows are depating twice. so now I am creating primary key to the table. It is throwing me an error saying primary key voilation. I will provide the clear scenario.
    create table Employee(
    ID VARCHAR2(4 BYTE) NOT NULL,
    First_Name VARCHAR2(10 BYTE),
    Last_Name VARCHAR2(10 BYTE),
    Start_Date DATE,
    End_Date DATE,
    Salary Number(8,2),
    City VARCHAR2(10 BYTE),
    Description VARCHAR2(15 BYTE)
    insert into employee values ('01','Jason', 'Martin', to_date('19960725','YYYYMMDD'), to_date('20060725','YYYYMMDD'), 1234.56, 'Toronto', 'Programmer');
    insert into employee values ('02','Alison', 'Mathews', to_date('19760321','YYYYMMDD'), to_date('19860221','YYYYMMDD'), 6661.78, 'Vancouver','Tester');
    insert into employee values ('03','James', 'Smith', to_date('19781212','YYYYMMDD'), to_date('19900315','YYYYMMDD'), 6544.78, 'Vancouver','Tester');
    insert into employee values ('04','Celia', 'Rice', to_date('19821024','YYYYMMDD'), to_date('19990421','YYYYMMDD'), 2344.78, 'Vancouver','Manager');
    insert into employee values ('05','Robert', 'Black', to_date('19840115','YYYYMMDD'), to_date('19980808','YYYYMMDD'), 2334.78, 'Vancouver','Tester');
    insert into employee values ('07','David', 'Larry', to_date('19901231','YYYYMMDD'), to_date('19980212','YYYYMMDD'), 7897.78,'New York', 'Manager');
    insert into employee values ('06','Linda', 'Green', to_date('19870730','YYYYMMDD'), to_date('19960104','YYYYMMDD'), 4322.78,'New York', 'Tester');
    insert into employee values ('08','James', 'Cat', to_date('19960917','YYYYMMDD'), to_date('20020415','YYYYMMDD'), 1232.78,'Vancouver', 'Tester')
    insert into employee values ('07','David', 'Larry', to_date('19901231','YYYYMMDD'), to_date('19980212','YYYYMMDD'), 7897.78,'New York', 'Manager');

    Now the table is with 10 columns

    06 Linda Green 30-JUL-87 04-JAN-96 4322.78 New York "NULL"
    There is a null in the duplicate data.....
    As there is NULL in the data It is not allowing me to add the primary key to the table.....
    I am just looking if there is any other way to create primary key with the same data....the reason for the null not allowing you to have unique records is because null means "unknown". I could go into this in more depth but....
    ...again - we need to ask, why do you have linda green and robert black in there twice.
    if you really do need those two extra rows, then create another column with a unique ID using a sequence and make that the primary key. a primary key uniquely identifies a row. for this data I don't see any reason whatsoever to create a composite key like you are attempting.
    by trying to make the entire row a primary key it is clear your understanding is severely lacking.

  • Primary key for an column consisting duplicates

    hi,
    ------->i have created a table and
    -------> i have a column consisting of 1000 records (but where i have duplicates)
    and now i want to create a primary key for the column
    how can i do it....

    Hi,
    You can find records which contains duplicate values for the table column using Oracle exceptions table. Please see a small demonstration:-

    Table created.
    SQL> insert into test1 values(&id);
    Enter value for id: 1

  • Difference between alter table statements to add primary keys

    Hi,
    Can someone explain what the difference between these 2 statements are and if & when one should be used over the other?
    Also, are the brackets around the column name necessary?
    Thanks!
    ALTER TABLE xyz ADD CONSTRAINT id_pk PRIMARY KEY (id);
    ALTER TABLE xyz ADD PRIMARY KEY (id);

    Hi,
    As every one has explained that there is no difference in the actual functioning of the two constraints except that the first statement will create Primary Key constraint with user defined name as id_pk whereas in the second statement Primary key will be created with system generated name like SYS....
    Normally name for the constraints are needed when you are working on constraints like need to enable or disable the constraints or need to drop the constraints.
    We can say that names for primary key are least required when it comes to the usage except better recognization.
    Because we can drop primary key, disable primary key,enable primary key without giving the name for the primary key as there can only be one primary key in the table. So not much an issue with the name.
    But as earlier post say its better than nothing,, i will add to it that its almost same as that with names constrained in case of Primary Keys taking into account the usage of the named primary key.
