Primary Key Source returning improper value

Hi All,
I have a tabular updateable form.
My Primary Key field has
Primary key Source Type : Custom PL/SQL Function
Primary key Source : RETURN (EB_PACKAGE.GET_COD_NUM (:P4_CTY_TYPE));
My function is in a package and is executing properly and i have checked it.
I have an Item on that page as P4_CTY_TYPE whose value i'm passing to obtain the Primary key.
But my problem is the function does not return a proper value, i feel the value being passed for the function is always same. Why is proper value not being passed.
Hopefully I have explained my problem, if not let me know so.
Hoping for the solution.
Thanks n Regards
Arif

Hi Ravi,
Thanks for the reply and sorry for late reply.
The session value for P4_CTY_TYPE is ok.
P4_CTY_TYPE is a Select List with Submit.
I have a Report and there's a link which changes the value of P4_CTY_TYPE or can be changed by itself as it is a Select List.
Depending upon the value of P4_CTY_TYPE I'm displaying records in a Tabular form with Insert, Update and Delete facilities.
Now Suppose the Value for P4_CTY_TYPE is 10 at the start of the session then the function works fine and it always does for this value, when i select other value for P4_CTY_TYPE say 20. The value returned by my function is as if the parameter value being passed to the function EB_PACKAGE.GET_COD_NUM (:P4_CTY_TYPE)) is 10 and not 20. This is what i mean by function does not return a proper value.
If any more clarification required do let me know.
Thanks Once again.
Arif

  • Updatable report strange "Primary Key Source" behaviour

    I have an updatable report based on a table with one primary key
    When I create the report and try to edit the last field to give it a default value, I get

    The field in question isn't a primary or foreign key and can be NULL.

  • Urgent - ESB: DB Adapter with composite primary keys no returning any data

    I have a DB Adapter in the ESB that inserts/updates/selects data to/from a table with 2 columns as primary keys, but table has several columns.
    1. Initially, the db table had constraints for the composite primary key, The DB adapter had valid data coming in, but no result data.
    2. Then I removed the db constraints on the composite primary key, and selected the 2 columns in the DB adapter wizard. Still, valid data is going in, since I am outputing to a file prior to call this node, but no result data is appearing. The result XML is empty.
    Do I need to do something in Toplink for this?

  • Dimension based on OLAP source returns text value not key value

    Hi,
    I have a Business Objects Universe based on a BEX query sitting on top of a BW datasource.  I imported the BEX query into Designer and several dimensions were created for me as well as several detail objects.  I was hoping the dimension objects created when pulled onto a Webi report would display the KEY value of the info object from BW, but unfortunately it appears to be pulling in the text value of the info object.
    Is there a way to change the default behavior so that the default dimension created will pull in the key value?
    Example:
    Universe dimension Object definition:  [ZCPCNTR].[LEVEL01]
    When pulled into a Webi report the MDX statement generated contains:  NON EMPTY [ZCPCNTR].[LEVEL01].MEMBERS DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION
    Somewhere ".MEMBERS DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMTER_CAPTION" gets added to the MDX statement.  I think this results in the Webi report displaying the text of the info object as opposed to the key value.  Is this modifiable?  If so what do I change to get it to display the key value?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    SAPBO786,
    Yes I do see the key value as a detail object under the dimension.  Do you kow of a way to change the default behavior so the dimension returns the key value?
    I have a bunch of reports (approx. 50) I built based on the dimension assuming the value was going to be key.  I don't want to go back and change all those reports if possible.  I am aware that I can take the Key detail object, change that to a dimension object and then modify my reports to pull that new dimension onto them, but I don't want to do that if there is a way to change the default behavior.
    Thanks,
    Tim

  • Delete after trigger returns a NULL value for the old primary key??

    I am creat an After trigger that I was using to delete a row from another table. However, the OLD value returned for my primary key is a NULL value. I have an UPDATE and an INSERT portion to this same trigger that work fine with just grabbing NEW values, but this OLD value cannot be grabbed for some reason, although it seems to work on other tables when the owner is me, the problem table is not owned by me though. Has anyone run into this before? Is there a view that I need access to from this table or perhaps a setting I need to turn on? I am at a loss. Thanks.

    Cannot reproduce with this modified trigger code … right now I believe the problem is in this part:

    old akey=2
    vdata(1)=2
    vdata(2)=null
    1 row deleted.
    So the trigger has the OLD AKEY value when DELETING and it does successfully store it in the VARRAY.
    Hence the problem is in that pl/sql block at the end.
    What are you doing in there?

  • Insert record and return the primary key

    Okay, I need to insert a record into a MSSQL database and return the primary key of that record. Im using the following code which is obviously wrong as I'm getting either 'NULL' or 'com.microsoft.jdbc.base.BaseResultSet@1d520c4' returned depending on the ways I've tried. The primary key is an int value called clientID which is incremented by one each time a new record is added.
    // set the prepared statement
                String sql="INSERT INTO Client(username, country, clientIP, browser, os) VALUES(?,?,?,?,?)";
                PreparedStatement pstmt = conn.prepareStatement(sql);
                pstmt.setString(1, inUserName);
                pstmt.setString(2, inCountry);
                pstmt.setString(3, inClientIP);
                pstmt.setString(4, inBrowser);
                pstmt.setString(5, inOS);
                // Insert the row
                pstmt.executeUpdate();
                Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
                ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY()");
                System.out.println("Result "+rs);The primary key value is needed so that it can be used as a foregin key in another table. Am I going about this the correct way? Any help, pointers or code fixing would be appreciated.....

    Yes. I tried this way but I only ever get the answer
    of 0 when i print our the result! Not really sure
    whats happening.That's because you don't print a ResultSet like that. In order to get the key out, you have to do this:
    int key = 0;
    while (rs.next())
        key = rs.getInt(1);What were you thinking with your code?
    You might want to do this in a transaction. If the INSERT fails, you'll want to roll back.
    The "select @@identity" is correct for M$ Access, SQL Server, and Sybase. I believe it's also correct for MySQL, but I'm not 100% certain of that.

  • How can I use a mySQL database schema with numeric auto increment primary key instead of GUID?

    Hello!
    I'm using the TestStand "MySQL Insert (NI)" database schema with GUID as primary key. So everything works fine.
    But I prever using numeric values as primary key, because the database is in conjunction with another database which uses numeric values as primary key.
    Is this possible?
    Has anyone an idea how I can modify the "Generic Recordset (NI)" for use with MySQL?
    Thanks!
    Configuration:
    Microsoft Windows XP
    TestStand 3.1
    MySQL 4.1.12a
    MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver
    Brosig

    Adam -
    The TestStand Database Logging feature does not allow you to run a separate SQL command after executing the command for a statement(table), so I do not think that you can use an auto incrementing column for the tables. There is just no way to get it back in a generic way. One option that I tried is something similar to the Oracle schema where you call a store procedure to return a sequence ID for each record that you want to add.
    So you would have to create the following sequence table in MySQL:
    CREATE TABLE sequence (id INT NOT NULL);
    INSERT INTO sequence VALUES (0);
    Then create a stored procedure as shown below that will increment the sequence value and return it in a recordset:
    CREATE PROCEDURE `getseqid`()
    BEGIN
            UPDATE sequence SET id=LAST_INSERT_ID(id+1);
            SELECT LAST_INSERT_ID();
    END
    Then update the MySQL tables to use INT primary and foreign key values, so the TestStand MySQL SQL file to create all tables would have text like this:
    CREATE TABLE UUT_RESULT
     ID    INT  PRIMARY KEY,
    ~
    CREATE TABLE STEP_RESULT
     ID    INT  PRIMARY KEY,
     UUT_RESULT   INT  NOT NULL,
    ~
    Then update the schema primary and foreign key columns in the TestStand Database Options dialog box to be INT to match the table. For the primary key columns, you will have to set the Primary Key Type to "Get Value from Recordset" and set the Primary Key Command Text to "call getseqid()". This will call the stored procedure to determine the next value to use as the ID value.
    Hope this helps...

  • Problems with BC4J input select tag when its bounded to a primary key field

    HI..
    I have an jsp BC4J edit form. This form uses a BC4J input select tag. This component is mapping one of the primary key Entity fields.
    When im working with this component and it doesnt map a primary key field it shows the default "none" value when im inserting a record(thats Ok). but when it maps a primary key field the default value is a database value so it is not advisable.. How can i do in order to fix that?
    Thank you

    The none value is only shown when the field accepts null values.

  • How to make a form using a wizard when the table has no primary key ?

    Hi,
    I want to make a form to update, delete a table. The table has no primary key. The problem is that the Wizard ask for a primary key.
    How to avoid using a primary key ? i mean I don't want to create a primary key if is is possible.
    I would like to use the wizard; is it possible ?
    Thank you for your kind answers.

    I believe the key is choosing 'Interactive' as opposed to 'Classic' in the implementation and then you can choose 'Existing Trigger' for the primary key source and it should work to use an existing column as your proimary key.

  • Updatable report without technical primary key

    Hi,
    I have a number of tables which need a standard updatable query report (MRU/MRD/MRI). However, these tables do not have a generated primary key, but the primary key is edited by the user.
    I've tried generating a standard updatable report for this, however, this doesn't seem to work because it needs a generated primary key.
    So I've tried to write the MRU process myself, which could work. However, how would I add a new row, because this isn't possible unless you use the standard updatable report!!... :S I can't help but think this must be me overlooking something. I can't imagine APEX cannot use standard updatable reports without a generated primary key!
    Who can help?

  • Master-detail with auto-generated primary key(master)

    Hello,
    I have the following master-detail setup:
    Master - block A primary key is: codeA
    Detail - block B
    codeA is genrated only at commit time and is obtained from a sequence.
    User needs to add detail records. This is easy to do since he has to click on the insert icon on the toolbar. At commit time, use commit_form.
    Prob: the requirements as asked by the client is to add a button (which we will label INSERT DETAIL). When the user click on the button, it opens a window where he can enter the detail info then click on save. This should bring him back to the master-detail form and the record in the detail block is inserted.
    What is the problem here ? since the detail block has the foreign key tied to the master primary key, the window-form (with the call_form) that we opened for the detail entry won't be able to save since at this point we still have not assigned a value for the primary key (and hence a value for the foreign key).
    Possible Suggestions:
    -Use a temp database table to hold the detail record from the second form and use it to transfer values to the detail record in the master-detail
    -Use a global record group
    -We can't use parameter list to pass back these values.
    So my question is:
    What would be the most efficient way to have an insert button on the detail block that would allow the user to have a pop up where he can insert his values and then be brought back to the master-detail.
    Thanks.

    Hello again,
    May be I was not clear enough.
    Scenario 1: We use the master-detail form as is with the default oolbar. In this case, the user can insert the detail records one by one without needing the primary-foreign key value since this is handled by default.
    Once we save the form (commit_form), I use the pre-insert trigger to get the master block primary key generated from the sequence and since the detail block key is copied from this value, both are saved correctly and it is the end of the story.
    Scenario 2: As explained in the initial post, the user will populate the detail records one by one by clicking on the -INSERT DETAIL- button and hence has a window where he can insert the detail info and then be brought back to the master-detail form every time he enters a new detail record.
    The problem here is that I can't generate the primary key for the master block since the client has the following requirement:
    The user can always change his mind and not complete, meaning save the form, his process
    As such, the key should be generated in the last step before Commit.

  • Primary key  & foriegn key

    can i create more than one primary key in database table..?what is the function of primary key compare to foriegn key

    Hi
    Primary Key:
    it is useful to uniquely identify the rows in a table by one or more columns so that you can process them in a specified sequence, for example. You can do this by assigning a “primary key.” The column names that are to create the table key are represented by the keywords PRIMARY KEY. The input values of the key columns defined in this way must not be a NULL value.
    You can use the primary key to insert rows in a table in the same way as you insert rows in a base table when no primary key is defined. However, the system outputs an error message if you attempt to insert an existing value into the primary key column a second time, since the uniqueness of the column is ensured by defining the primary key.
    A primary key can consist of multiple columns. However, it is unusual for a key to be constructed from more than five columns, since this makes it difficult for users to enter unique values. The arrangement of the columns behind the keywords PRIMARY KEY defines the key sequence.
    Foreign Keys :
    You can define the relationships between tables in the ABAP Dictionary by creating foreign keys.
