Print as Bitmap to Postscript printers?

Illustrator CS3,CS4 MAC various postscript printers
Is there any possible way to print a file as bitmap to a postscript printer? The option in the Print / Advanced section in illustrator is always greyed out.
I would want to do this in cases where the vector art is too complex to print (locks up the printer, disregards it, postscript errors etc). I can rasterize the problematic artwork first or even use a layer effect however if the option to Print as Bitmap was available for Postscript printers it would save a lot of time.
Thanks J

You could create a Flattener preset where the Vector Balance slider is set to 0 (the far left). At that setting, the entire artwork is rasterized and effectively prints as an image. Just dial in the resolution you want into the preset as well. You might call the preset "Print as Image" ;-)

  • Installation of Ghostscript in order to print to non-Postscript printers

    Hi,
As I understand Ghostscript can read a PostScript or PDF file and convert them into a form you can print on a non-PostScript printer.
As a reason what we have no postscript printers , I want to use Ghostscript for printing reports into OA 11i on printers without postscript drivers.
I will appreciate for any suggest and help for better understanding of how to install Ghostscript and usage/practice with it.

Would Archive and Install be the best option, then?

  • How do I get my Postscript printers to be postscript in OSX 10.4.4?

I've been working on a Mac G4 OS9 system and I just set-up my new Mac G5 OSX 10.4.4 computer. I have a HP LaserJet 4mv and a HP DeskJet 1220C/ps postscript printer. I've been able to print to these printers, but I can't get them to print as postscript printers. When I send a file that has graphics that need postscript quality, I get a message that informs me that this "non-postscript" printer will exclude necessary information that would print this file in postscript quality. My DeskJet 1220C supposely has postscript 3 built-in. It also came with the "PressReady" software which is OS9 compatible, but OSX will not let me install it. Any suggestions? (I have some other printing issues in Quark 6.5, but I thought I better solve this problem first.)

Thanks to Gregg's advice I think I've solved my problems now. I have several printers as you see listed below. I got my LaserJet 4mv to be postscript by designating that PPD in the OSX list that resided on the computer. (My error had been I had designated the LaserJet 4m, instead of the LaserJet 4mv 600 postcript which was further down on the list.) I could get my printers to print, I just couldn't get them to print postcsript. The DeskJet 1220c proved more difficult. I located the driver on OSX – no luck. (I discovered that you have to go down the whole list of HP printers, because some of these downloads will put the drivers at the bottom of the HP PPD list.) I downloaded some of the print drivers/ghostscript files from linux - no luck. I finally went to www.printfab.net/ to purchase a driver from them. I downloaded it as a demo to make sure it worked and I have had success with it. It printed as postscript right from the start, but I had some issues with color correctness. After making a test image sheet and printing it on many different settings, I finally found one that worked. I actually found that I had to turn off ghostscript in the main menu to get better color representation. I also had to create a "custom" paper size for letter and tabloid to get the printer to position the file correctly. It works now, but you can see it takes some tweaking. Good Luck.

  • What would cause characters to be replaced by glyphs when printing a PDF via PostScript driver?

When printing PDFs to our laser printers, occasionally a PDF will degrade, with many characters being replaced by little square glyphs. It never happens on the first page, but usually within the first ten pages if it is going to. The file will cause the same effect on similar printers, and is exclusive to PostScript- the PCL driver will print the file as expected. There is nothing visibly wrong in the PDF, and I am trying to isolate the cause of this problem. Once it starts the problem can get worse, but I've never seen it get better or "work itself out".  The sample above is a scan of the output, and the original PDF was version 1.4, the printer is an HP Laserjet 9050dn
    Thanks for your help!

That problem appeared different than this.  The symptom there was that the screen looked like an old time tv with Horizontal phase lock missing, as series of lines looking sort of  like this only extending from top to bottom of screen as un broken lines:

  • Raster Vector Balance vs Print as bitmap

I'm getting problems frequently when printing where a drop shadow or a clipping mask creates a discoloration on a solid color area of color in the background.
I can eliminate this using Print as Bitmap although it seems to affect the printed colors, is slower and comes out at a lower resolution than when I don't use this option.
My question is -- if I change the Raster/Vector balance in the Custom Flattener presets down to 0 (so everything is Raster), how is this different than using Print As Bitmap?

    Your answer:
Adobe Illustrator is optimized for PostScript printing. When you print from Illustrator to a non PostScript printer, objects may not print, or may print incorrectly.
Non PostScript printing problems can manifest themselves in many different ways, including (but not limited to) the following:
Text or other objects are partially or completely missing from the page.
A system error or freeze occurs.
     Try doing this:
Set Raster/Vector balance to 0 with Print As Bitmap unchecked.
İ think quality will get better.

  • Postscript printers are supported by Campus Solutions and PeopleTools

I am trying to find a listing of what postscript printers are supported by Campus Solutions 8.9 and PeopleTools 8.51. I am not very familiar with the software but need to spec a printer that will fit in a small area that is supported. I am having issues with a currently installed printer and would like some clarification before purchasing another printer to solve my issue. I know that the print server is running Windows Server 2003. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I need to submit a report on my findings in roughly 14 hours and have not had much luck with Google.

I found one but now who uses OS 9 anyway

  • Printer Driver Oce/Canon (PostScript) /

    Hi all,
I will have to support a Oce and Canon printer. For this I will need to make seperate presentment targets as explained in this list already.
First of all, has anyone got a (custom) driver for Oce or Canon printers? Would be nice starting point for me.
Second, does anyone have experience in making drivers for PostScript printers?
For some reason they have a ".ICF" file next to the ".ICS" and ".ITF". It is not a text file so I have no clue why it is being used.
The Oces we have are media type driven (so "A4down" will use a tray which was called "A4down") so I could adjust a .ICS file to change the PostScript code to use "A4down" instead of "A4". This is pretty straight forward unless the .ICF does something else.
    Thanks in advance,
    Edward

Try the Canon Australia site here. The link should take you to the ip3600 os x 10.7 downloads, including the driver.

  • Can't print to a non Postscript printer on Mac

How do you get inDesign to print to a non postscript printer (HP laserjet 1200). Running CS3 on Mac 10.4.11
iD will not let me sellect the printer but defaults to Postscript file.

A quick way around printing to any non-PostScript printer is to export or distill a PDF and print that.
I've used this trick for years to print "colour proofs" on various different inkjet printers.

  • Why don't PostScript printers work?

The first PostScript printer I bought for my computer didn't work. I took it back to the store, thinking it was a problem with the printer. I bought a second PostScript printer, but it also doesn't work. So then I got suspicious that the problem may be the Mac itself. So I did a test I learned from work. I started to print to the printer, but then clicked on the PDF button > Save PDF as PostScript option. This has without fail created PostScript files at work since Tiger came out. But at home even it fails. So now I think there is a problem with the PostScript driver, but can't find any help anywhere about what to do to fix this particular problem. Any ideas?

I don't have one specific answer, just a lot of questions and some additional info.
    1. Did you get the right driver package from Lexmark? I see that there are different drivers for Panther and Tiger.
    2. The driver package (actually a meta-package) throws a lot of stuff all over the computer. Of particular note in regards to your error_log, the printer uses its own proprietary software (pstoprinter1 filter) along with a PDE. The pertinent sections of the PPD are
    *% CUPS compatibility - PDEs
    *APPrinterIconPath: "/Library/Printers/Lexmark/Printer Icons/Lexmark E238.icns"
    *% CUPS compatibility - Filter
    *cupsFilter: "application/vnd.cups-postscript 0 /Library/Printers/Lexmark/filter/pstopsprinter1"
    *% CUPS compatibility - PDEs
    *APDialogExtension: "/Library/Printers/Lexmark/PDEs/Quality.plugin"
    *APDialogExtension: "/Library/Printers/Lexmark/PDEs/Finishing 3.plugin"
    *APDialogExtension: "/Library/Printers/Lexmark/PDEs/Paper 2.plugin"
    3. I'm wondering if the printer is actually a PostScript printer. See the entry for this printer at openprinting.org.
You might want to see what the printer does if you select a Generic PostScript as the driver and/or the Generic PCL6 driver.
The printer may be a PostScript printer but needs all the other Lexmark software to take full advantage of the printer's capabilities. I don't find any listing of the language(s) the printer understands in the User's Guide.

    Thanks Alec!
Is there a way to get the print pool to print to both printers at the same time?  With the pool it just switches the jobs between the two right?
I actually need to click Print once, and have it print on both printers.

  • Print a Bitmap to a chosen printer

    Hello all,
One of our customers, has an implementation where some user data are stored as bitmap images on a server. Right now, the user can view those images and then choose to save them on the local PC . Those images are shown at SAP using the ABAP Bitmap Image Processing Class found on this blog
    /people/thomas.jung/blog/2007/09/05/abap-bitmap-image-processing-class
Now the customer, is requesting that the user, instead of saving the file, should be able to print it on a printer that he chooses .
The important part is, that the bitmap file should not be saved first on the user's computer .
To be more specific, what we actually need, is to change this class, with another that will be printing the bitmap instead of saving it .
      CALL METHOD CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES=>FILE_SAVE_DIALOG
       EXPORTING DEFAULT_EXTENSION    = '.bmp'
                 DEFAULT_FILE_NAME    = lv_filename
                 FILE_FILTER          = 'Bitmap files (*.BMP)'
       CHANGING  FILENAME             = lv_filename
                 PATH                 = lv_path
                 FULLPATH             = lv_fullpath.
      CHECK NOT lv_fullpath IS INITIAL.
Is this possible and if so, how ?
    Thank you

    Hi there,
if you have the bitmap in binary format then you can try the following function calls
    RSPO_SR_OPEN
    RSPO_SR_WRITE_BINARY
    RSPO_SR_CLOSE

  • How can I print emails? Printing Error message that no printers are installed. (Printers are installed.)

When I click File > Print, I get a Printing Error message that no printers are installed. Printers are installed. When I click Yes to install a new printer, I receive a new error message that "Windows can't open Add Printer / The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." I updated to the new version of Thunderbird 24.6.0. Using Windows 8. I restarted the machine. I confirmed printers are installed using Control Panel. I do not see any way to restart a print spooler. How can I fix this? Thanks.

The print spooler is a windows service and is required to print. I would hazard a guess you can not print with any application.
What I am saying is I think your windows instalation has a problem, not Thunderbird.

I don't know if maybe using a registry cleaner would help.

  • How do I add the Acrobat Distiller Printer to my list of printers.

I have Adobe Acrobat 5.0 full version. I would like to know how to convert MS Works files to PDF files.
I keep getting the following message when I try to open a file as a PDF file.
When I open the MIcrsoft Works program and try to print ot the Acrobat Distiller it's not listed as you can see in the image below.
How can I had the Acrobat Distiller to my list of printers.
Please email with an answer Thanks.
    [email protected]

Well those listed files you had were of no help. I did some more searching in an system I had and found the downloaded file Acro5.0.5.exe.
I searched for instances of the word Adobe and deleted them including folders. Also cleaned the registry as well then reinstalled the software from the afore mentioned file. Then re-registered the program. Now everthing is working fine, The Acrobat Distiller Printer is now shown in Printers and Faxes Control Panel.
I did some file conversions to PDF and the distiller is now listed as a printer source in the Print Menu of the file I am converting.
    Thank for your help.
