Printing a timeline or Exporting a timeline and bin

Is there a simple way to create a printable text version of a timeline and footage available within bins?

For your timeline you can export an EDL.
Bins? Open them, take a screen shot (Shift-Apple-4...then draw a box around what you want) and print that.

  • Export HDV timeline as AVI to edit in Premiere

I have a finished 10 minute show show and edited in HDV in FCP 5.1.1. My client wants to use excerpts in a show they are editing in house. They use Premiere Pro 2.0 (latest release). So they have requested an AVI of the timeline in HDV resolution. I have tried every way of exporting and nothing works. Going out AVI from FCP using QT Conversion only gives you SD rez options, or uncompressed. Uncompressed is massive and is not an option (1gb for 10 second test export). I exported as QT from FCP using Current Settings and brought that 1.5 GB file to the PC. On the PC, only audio plays. The video shows white. Exporting from QT and selecting H264 as the compressor gives a file that is readable on the PC with a managable file size, but Premiere has to render the entire thing. Any ideas?

Thanks for the advise and best wishes. Tape would surely work, but the client is pushing for digital because of time and other issues. I've had decent luck exporting out using H264. I'm exporting to it now and it's an all day process even on a dual G5 with 2gb. So as for now, I'd say that is the best way to go between FCP and Premiere with an HDV project. If anyone experiments more and finds a better way, or a direct way to get an AVI file in HDV, let's hear it.
By the way, I did try a product called Cleaner from Discreet but it doesn't appear to recognize HDV yet. Not sure if there are other conversion programs out there that might.
    Thanks again.

  • Multiple Sequences on same Timeline = Failed Export?

I'm trying to make a compilation reel - combining about 7 or 8 previous projects into one long timeline - for export from FCP 5 to Compressor2 - to make a m2v. I'm using Best Quality, 90 minute presets.
The way I laid out the timeline was to copy the squences from all the projects that I needed and the copy/paste, or drag and drop them into the one new
    compilation sequence.
Problem that I run into is that it fails every time when I try to export using Compressor 2.
I can export it to Compressor and set everything up to run, and Compressor will start out fine, but then it never finishes - at some point in the process it just stalls and then if i touch anything in the Batch window or in FCP the export willl fail.
It's only a 1 hour sequence, so it shouldn't be takking 8+ hours to render - it's not like I'm being impatient.
I've exported lots of other projects with Compressor 2 and FCP HD, so I'm not sure whats wrong/different this time - the only thing I can think of is that I combined multiple sequences in one time line.
Does anyone know what could be going wrong?
If the sequences are the problem, what the best way around that?
Do I just export ref movies for each project and then use those to combine
    in the new compilation timeline?
I'm going to try to just export a ref movie from FCP and then take that to Compressor, but I have a feeling the same thing is going to happen.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Check the file size. The .mov extension doesn't have a lot to do with it. If it's big, you did a self-contained movie. Or pen it it in QT Player Pro and check the files used - Command-J, Resources tab. Should be just one entry there.
Pretty hard to do it wrong, just one little checkbox...

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

  • Problems exporting HD timeline in older Final Cut Studio HD

I've been working on an older version of Final Cut Studio HD. I had originally offlined the footage so I could edit it, and I finished onlining the footage with the original HD footage. The aspect ratio of the project and the footage is 1920 x 1080, and the codec of most of the footage and the timeline was set to H.264. The only problem is, now that it's onlined, it refused to render any of the transitions. It gives me some kind of codec error. I have also tried exporting the timeline as a Quicktime Movie, but it always fails at somepoint in the process. I have tried exporting Quicktime Conversion, and it failed too. The only way I was able to get it to output was to change the codec of the timeline and in Quicktime Conversion, but this provided a subpar quality file. I understand that I'm using and older version of Final Cut Pro on an older system, but I'm trying to find work arounds to this issue that will allow me to output a quality full HD file. Any help is appreciated.

  • Export FCP Timeline as HD 1440 x 1080i in Compressor?

I have a 2 and a Half hour timeline in FCP 7 shot and edited in 1440 x 1080i HD. I want to export it as HD 1440 x 1080i with my Chapter Markers.
Can I do this in Compressor?
I am going to make it a Blu-Ray DVD eventually.
    FCP Studio 3
    Power Mac Intel Xeon
    10GB RAM

I have had success exporting markers from a timeline but I have not have success in them showing up on a Blu-ray via Compressor.
You can make a blu-ray from Compressor but you will have to compress the file quite a bit to fit 2.5 hours footage on a blu-ray. Due to how Compressor makes the BR you may be dissapointed by the output. I would definitely purchase a BR-R disk so that you can do lots of tests.  Keep in mind that Compressor is a really basic option for getting video to BR. It is very limited in authoring options when you compare it to what you can do in DSP(HD-DVD would be the equivalent but the format is now dead).
To have the markers show-up in a export from FC you need to ensure you have done the following:
    1) Make sure all othe markers are actually chapter markers vs. just a regular marker.
Command/option/m will allow you to edit the markers and change the names
    2) When you export your QT set the markers pull-down(lower left) to DSP markers. These markers will show-up in QT on the exported file so that you can jump to another marker from the pull-down in the QT window.

  • CODEC Error when exporting from Timeline solution

This is a stupid mistake, but when I was just in Final Cut Pro 7 trying to "Export Using Quicktime Conversion" I got a "CODEC Error" message and couldn't export. I tried changing the CODEC in my Sequence Settings, still got the error, I started freaking out thinking I had to delete the preference files; but I suddenly realized I had the "In" marker at the end of the video on the Timeline.
Solution: "Clear IN and OUT" markers on the Timeline (right-click on Timeline, Clear In and Out).
Check the simple things first! lol

Or...don't choose QUICKTIME CONVERSION, as that will recompress your sequence and footage...even if you choose the same codec. Try Quicktime Movie, self contain as an option.

  • Video: Can photoshop timeline be exported to Premiere or After Effects?

I love the video ability. Other than just rendering out, can the timeline be exported in an editable way to Premiere or After Effects for further work?
If not, it would be a very useful feature.

There are lots of different tips to create timelapse with difficult footage, but my images have always just been pretty smooth. Do not frame blend or try to get fancy. The goal for me is just to make sure that when I shoot, I don't try to change the exposure. Set it yourself, do not use auto. When I shoot sunsets, I start overexposed and end up way underexposed. But it works better than trying to adjust in the middle.
I shoot with a Panasonic GH3 which shoot s much larger image than 1920X1080. That allows me to pan around the image, making it look like I used a slider or zoom lens.
For example, this was show with about 170 images. An image taken every 5 seconds and played back at 24fps.
The original frame looked like this:

I've also exported the document to IDML - and I've unzipped that folder. I've read the information for the colour - there's only 1 reference to Rubine Red and that's giving the same percentages as the InDesign file.
I don't know where the 2nd shade of pink is coming from.
But I suspect that it's from the print driver itself.
Also - just occured to me, I lost my PDF settings a while ago, InDesign crashed and the PDF defaults were missing - I dowloaded a copy of a set from someone on these forums through a google search.
But I no longer have PDF x4 export option - where can I retrieve these.
How can I restore the original PDF settings for InDesign?

  • How do I fix the timeline so both the images and the timeline are 1080p?

Hello everybody. I'm a relative newbie to FCP, but not totally new to the world of video editing. I've got a problem that I hope somebody out there can assist me with.
I've shot a lot of footage in HD (1080p) and have imported everything into a timeline. I've performed all my edits, transitions, music integration etc - now when I go to output the footage I realise I've made the mistake of doing everything in a 576p timeline.
I've figured out how to resize the timeline, but all the clips appear in their original 576p resolution in the middle of the canvas (ie huge bars around the image)..
My question is simple enough.. How do I fix the timeline so both the images and the timeline are 1080p? Is there a method to 'resize' all the clips to the new timeline? Will this resize the 576p clips or will they still be native 1080p?
If importing all those clips into the original timeline has destroyed pixels, then resizing to 1080p is definately not what I want to do. I want to retain all the resolution of the original clips.
Any advice would be very much appreciated. I've created nearly 300 edits in this timeline, not including all the effects and transitions. If I have to redo all this because I set up the timeline incorrectly I'm going to be rather upset!
    Thanks everybody.

If you captured the footage as 1080 then the fastest way to re-size all the clips back to 1080 is to select all the clips on the time line and then in the menu bar go to Edit -> Remove Attributes. This will pop up window asking which attributes you want to remove. I would try checking the Basic Motion and Distort attributes and click OK. This should pop everything back to their original size and shape.
However, this will also remove any re-sizing or distortion that is intentional (ie to blow up a particular clip so you can focus on something).

  • How do you get timeline view on imovie 08  and speed up a clip on imovie 08

how do you get timeline view on imovie 08  and speed up a clip on imovie 08

    Hi
You can not - Nobody else (if not a very selected few at Apple dev.group)
TimeLine was lost in iMovie'08 and 09 and a very simple one re-introduced in iMovie'11
Speed Change - Was omitted in iMovie'08 - and returned in iMovie'09 - BUT has to be used in a certain way - the glider/slide if used - will destroy the audio (a Known BUG - in both iM'09 and iM'11) but use of pre-set fixed no. 25% 50% 100% 200% etc. will work.

  • Premiere Pro Timeline with 3 video channels and 4 audio channels, audio channels change to 8 channels when clip dragged onto timeline.

Premiere Pro Timeline with 3 video channels and 4 audio channels, when clip dragged onto timeline audio channels change to 8 channels. Audio track mixer changes too. I edit undo to remove dragged clip and it reverts back to 4 channels of audio on timeline as does the audio mixer?  Any ideas as to why the audio channels and mixer changes?

you can check the clip you are dragging to the timeline, if it has 8 tracks... can check by right clicking it in the project bin, choose modify, audio channels.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Render and Export Screen Glitch and Freeze

I use Premiere Pro CS6 on a 2012 Macbook Retina display - 16GB RAM, 751GB Flash Storage, NVIDIA GeForce 650m Graphics Card, 2 External 4TB hardrives for scratch disks, Thunderbolt connection. When I try to render and export videos I often get a graphical glitch like in the pic shown below and my computer freezes. It happens very often, especially when there are a lot of effects in the videos - I use the GenArts Sapphire plugin often.
This has been going on basically since I bought my Macbook 2 years ago, but it is starting to become more and more common -  considering this was the most expensive Macbook Pro you could buy I am very annoyed with this - even on some videos where I have applied no plugin effects or any color correction it happens, especially when trying to export videos.
Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

I am having precisely the same problem as bricklaneeditor, and have exactly the same setup: MBP early 2011, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD,
    30" ACD, Mac OS 10.7.4 , PPro 6.0.1
Indeed, a restart of Premiere Pro always fixes the problem -- for a while.  I've also seen similar behavior in Media Composer 6.0.1 once or twice so am wondering whether it's an issue with this machine/OS, as the playback software architectures are so different on those two NLE's.
I should also mention that the problem is not isolated to any particular file format -- have seen it with timelines containing 7D footage, HDV and ProRes files.
I strongly suspect some sort of problem on either Apple's or Adobe's end with the GPU in this machine, as it is ATI and not Nvidia -- and is, as far as I know, the only non-CUDA GPU, at least on the Mac side, certified to work with the CS6 Mercury Playback Engine.
Also wondering whether an over-the-top or a clean install of Mountain Lion might shake things up enough to make a difference.  (Otherwise I'm in no big hurry to upgrade my OS.)  Is anyone seeing this problem with PPro under 10.8?  Might be worth installing 10.8 over an external HDD clone of the System drive and booting temporarily from the clone just to see if the problem persists in Premiere.
Anyone have any thoughts on these possibilities?

  • (Trouble printing) Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510.

Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510. (Nothing Prints).
I have a Macbook Pro and am having difficulty printing documents from ‘Pages' from my Hp Deskjet 1510. I have installed the necessary software for the printer and it is connected via USB. Every time I try to print the printer icon comes up as it should, 'printing' and then 'job completed' and then the icon disappears. (Nothing is printed.) I thought it might be something to do with Pages compatibility with the printer but exporting the document to Word or making it a PDF doesn’t change anything. I don’t have Microsoft Word on my computer. The scanner does work and when I printed a ‘Test Page’ that worked too.
Let me know if you know why this is happening.

With these settings the network now works flawlessly, however, when i have my ethernet cable plugged in, my internet access via my airport card(on the macbook pro) is no longer available. Hoping you can tell me why this would be with this info i've provided.
Educated guess. The networking devices have priorities as to which are used. The standard order is that Ethernet has a higher priority than Airport.
While your Ethernet is unplugged it is inactive and the Mac ignores it. Once you plug it in, the Mac sees that it is active and switches traffic to that interface.
I actually take advantage of this feature at home, but configuring my Airport and Ethernet with identical fixed IP addresses. Normally I'll use Airport, but if I'm copying a huge file and I want faster performance, I'll just walk my MacBook (previously iBook, previously Powerbook) over to my Ethernet switch and plug in my MacBook. Magically, the Mac detects that the Ethernet is active and continues the file transfer uninterrupted over the faster 100baseT Ethernet connection. When the transfer is finished, or if I really need to move back to the Comfy Chair, I unplug the Ethernet cable, and all activity reverts back to the Airport, all without disrupting any existing networking connections.
You on the other hand have totally different settings for your Ethernet and your Airport, so when you switch to Ethernet, you basically loose your Airport connections.
    Something you can try:
    System Preferences -> Network
Gear icon on the bottom left, next to the [+] [-] icons.
    Select *Set Service Order...*
Now Drag the network interfaces into the perfer priority order you want. In this case put Airport above Ethernet.
NOTE: You may want to create a new Network Location for this, instead of messing with your normal home Location (which is most likely the default Automatic. That way you have your original you can always fall back to.
