Printing formatted text from an Oracle form

I'm trying to print formatted text from an Oracle form without using the standard menu print. The print button on the menu prints out the text and the actual form. I just want to print the text that is displayed on the form. I would like to add a print button to the form. Is there a print function or event in PL/SQL?
Thanks in advance for any help!!
Jason

If you are interested in the content of the field you can loop over them (next_item built in) and write their content into a file using the TEXT_IO built in.
for nicer outputs check out Oracle Reports on OTN.

  • Show the print dialog when running a report from an Oracle form.

    I would like to be able to print an Oracle report from an Oracle form but
    in addition show the print dialog. My PL/SQL code is shown at the bottom of this post.
    I have set the 'printjob' system parameter to 'YES' in the
    report and I can bring up a print dialog using the reports runtime.
    However, as soon as I run it from my form I lose this capability. Setting
    'printjob' to 'YES' in the code has no apparent effect.
    Many thanks,

    GET_FILE_NAME will try to open an "Open File" dialog on the server, which obviously can't happen. If you want to use that type of behavior you need to use WebUtil and the function CLIENT_GET_FILE_NAME. Example:
         filename := CLIENT_GET_FILE_NAME('C:\', File_Filter=> 'Text Files (*.txt)|*.txt|All Files (*.*)|*.*|', dialog_type=> OPEN_FILE);Refer to the Builder Online help for more details. You can also refer to the demo which is available here:

    Also, it appears that you are attempting to use a mapped drive ("U"). Although this can be made to work, it is not recommended and in some cases will not be supported. If you need access to remote files, you should use some other mechanism to bring the file to the local machine before manipulating it.

    Wow, you just said the same thing. First, when you say "Forms 2.1" do you mean "Developer 2.1", which included Forms 5.0? Regardless, are you aware that these Forms versions are about 15 or more years old?
    What you are trying to do is still unclear. Are you trying to output records to a text file formated to csv? If you need assistance, please provide some clarification as to what you are trying to accomplish.

    Hello experts,
                  I am using oracle forms 11g with weblogic server 10.3.5 at windows7.I have a text item in my oracle form and I have to disable to being copy from a text item in oracle forms.Actually I have to make two text item.First text item to type a password and another text item is also to type password.Here I want that the data from first text item should not be copy through the use of mouse or keyboard shortcut key.
    thank you
    regards

    Thank You To reply, Actually doing so as you said,My problem would not be solved.This would hide data in text item than I will not be able to copy that but in my case the data should not be concealed.Actually I have to make a Form to  User registration and here is a strictly boundation to have a right email address of user.There would two text items for this purpose as: N_User_Email------> to type email address in text item.Here user would not be able to copy text written from N_User_Email R_User_Email  ------> to type email address again as in N_User_Email.

  • Procedure runs in SQL Plus, but not when called from my Oracle Form

    Hi. I have this code to send an email alert as the user updates a record on my base table from my Oracle Form. I use dbms_scheduler so that it's submitted as a background job and so the email processing does not delay my Oracle Form from saving quickly. If I submit this code in SQL Plus it executes and I receive the email as expected.
    begin
    dbms_scheduler.create_job (
         job_name            => 'IMMEDIATE_JOB',
         job_type            => 'PLSQL_BLOCK',
         job_action          => 'begin TTMS.dropperVacationConflict_Notify (62547, ''01-SEP-11'', ''02-SEP-11''); end;',
         number_of_arguments => 0,
         start_date          => sysdate +1/24/59, -- sysdate + 1 minute
         enabled             => TRUE,
         auto_drop           => TRUE,
         comments            => 'Immediate, one-time run');
    end;However if I submit this code from a Post-Update trigger in my form the code runs without error, but my email is never received (the same parameter values would be passed to this trigger):
    begin
    -- Submit the email notification in the background so as to not slow down the screen while saving.
    dbms_scheduler.create_job (
         job_name            => 'IMMEDIATE_JOB',
         job_type            => 'PLSQL_BLOCK',
         job_action          => 'begin TTMS.dropperVacationConflict_Notify (:dropper_vacations.dropper_id, :dropper_vacations.begin_dt, :dropper_vacations.end_dt); end;',
         number_of_arguments => 0,
         start_date          => sysdate +1/24/59, -- sysdate + 1 minute
         enabled             => TRUE,
         auto_drop           => TRUE,
         comments            => 'Immediate, one-time run');
    end;     Any ideas why this might be happening?

    Wow, so I changed the two procedures so that I'm only passing in one number parameter and one char parameter...
    CREATE OR REPLACE procedure TTMS.job_vacationconflict_notify (p_dropper_id number, p_other char) IS
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TTMS.dropperVacationEmailURL_new (in_dropper_id number, in_other char) ISIf I execute it like this it works and I get the email:
    TTMS.job_vacationconflict_notify(62547, 99999);or like this it works and I get the email:
    TTMS.job_vacationconflict_notify(62547, '99999');But if I execute it like this (I get no errors) the email is not sent:
    TTMS.job_vacationconflict_notify(62547, 'ababa');So this problem really has nothing to do with date formats. It seems to have to do with whether parameter two has characters in it!!! What the heck.
    Any ideas on this?
    Here is the procedure I'm calling:
    CREATE OR REPLACE procedure TTMS.job_vacationconflict_notify (p_dropper_id number, p_other char) IS
    begin
      dbms_scheduler.create_job (
         job_name            => 'IMMEDIATE_JOB',
         job_type            => 'PLSQL_BLOCK',
         job_action          => 'begin TTMS.dropperVacationemailurl_new ('||p_dropper_id||','||p_other||'); end;',
         number_of_arguments => 0,
         start_date          => sysdate +1/24/59, -- sysdate + 1 minute
         enabled             => TRUE,
         auto_drop           => TRUE,
         comments            => 'Immediate, one-time run');
    end;
    /And the above procedure is calling this procedure which should be sending the email alert:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TTMS.dropperVacationEmailURL_new (in_dropper_id number, in_other char) IS
          myguid varchar2(15):=null;

  • Calling a Database Procedure from an Oracle Form

    Hi,
    I have a question we will be calling the procedure from an Oracle form and through that can we pass like 1000 input values to this procedure and we need to return certain values back to the Oracle Form also. Here the proceduere take two or more parameters. Please advice.
    To receive the input values we have the input parameter of the procedure as type object, so that we can receive multiple parameter values.
    Thanks and Regards

    Thanks for the idea, but I can't switch the project to WebHelp.  This .chm project consists of a master project with 18 slave projects and a slew of remote jumps.  I'd have to recreate all of the remote jumps if I switch to WebHelp.
    Hopefully Adobe can fix this issue.
    Well, first off, even though it would be WebHelp, it would be inside a CHM container. So for all intents and purposes it would be a CHM file. But having said that, I'm not sure there is a way to merge these hybrid types of CHM files.
    If your statement about Adobe fixing the issue is meaning that they can either remove the Print icon from the CHM Viewer, I wouldn't hold my breath because as I said, that's in Microsoft's lap and they haven't updated the CHM viewer in a long while. Doubtful they ever will.
    The only hope would then be for Adobe to update the code used for the Mini TOC. The only way that will happen is if enough folks submit this as a bug via the following link:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
    Until that would happen, your likely best bet is to simply avoid using the Mini-TOC feature or just insert a warning that if the topic is printed, it will cause issues. Or, you could use bookmarks and links to establish your own verision of a "Mini-TOC"
    Cheers... Rick

  • How Do I Display HTML Formatted Text From A Data Table In Crystal Reports?

    I'm creating reports in Crystal XI.  The information being displayed in the reports comes from data tables where the text is formatted in HTML.
    I've worked with Crystal Reports enough to know that HTML text pulled from a data table doesn't appear in Crystal the same way it does in a web browser.  Crystal Reports ignores all the tags (...unless I'm missing something...) and just displays the text.
    Someone far more Crystal savy than I (...who I don't have access to...) came up with a Formula Field workaround that tricks Crystal Reports into displaying some basic HTML tags.  Here's that workaround:
    <!--
    stringVar TableName := ;
    TableName := Replace (TableName, "<ul>","<br> <br>");
    TableName := Replace (TableName, "<li>", "<br>   &bull; ");
    TableName := Replace (TableName, "</li>", "");
    TableName := Replace (TableName, "</ul>","<br> <br>");
    TableName := Replace (TableName, "<a", "<u><font color='blue'");
    TableName := Replace (TableName, "</a>", "</font></u>");
    TableName
    -->
    QUESTION - Does any similar workaround exist so I can display an HTML Table in Crystal Reports?  If not, is there any way to display HTML formatted text from a data table in Crystal Reports as it would appear in a web browser?

    Hi Steven,
    To display html text in Crystal Reports follows these steps.
    1. Right click on the field and select Paragraph tab.
    2. Under 'Text Interpretation' select 'HTML Text' and click OK.
    I have tried using the way,but it never works.So reply me if there is any way to solve the issue

  • Copy and paste user formatted text from Filemaker to...

    I need to copy user formatted text from Filemaker to any text program that will maintain the formatting. Subsequently it will be going to an rtf. I have limited knowledge of Filemaker and Applescript (and I am not sure that Applescript is the right approach). This is a repetitive process with frequently changing data and users who use italics on a word one day and then decide to bold it the next day. I have created an Applescript that copies and pastes the text into either TextEdit or Microsoft Word but the user formatting is always lost. It is frustrating that I can use Apple-C and Apple-V and the formatting is maintained. But I need to automate this process. Here is a copy of my humble attempt at an Applescript to do the job. it copies the text but not the formatting.
    tell application "FileMaker Developer"
    open "MacintoshHD:Users:stuart:Desktop:Practice.fp7"
    set the clipboard to record 2 of table 1 of database 1 as styled text
    end tell
    tell application "TextEdit"
    activate
    set the text of document 1 to (get the clipboard as text) as string
    end tell
    tell application "Microsoft Word"
    activate
    set myRange to create range active document start 0 end 0
    insert text (get the clipboard) at myRange
    end tell

    I'm not familiar with 'styled text'- which does not mean much other than it's on a very long list of things I don't know. But I do know you can cut several steps out here:
    If your script works so far then you can clean it up:
    tell application "FileMaker Developer"
    open "MacintoshHD:Users:stuart:Desktop:Practice.fp7"
    set mytext to record 2 of table 1 of database 1 as styled text
    end tell
    tell application "Microsoft Word"
    activate
    set myRange to create range active document start 0 end 0
    insert text (mytext) at myRange
    end tell
    Also try:
    set mytext to contents of record 2 of table 1 of database 1 as styled text

  • How can I export formatted text from a string indicator?

    Does someone know how I can export formatted text (i.e., parts of the text have different formatting, such as color, fontsize, etc.) from a string indicator? Using copy/paste does not work, as it only exports unformatted plain text.

    Hello Sparti,
        Thank you for your suggestions, they are all very useful, and I plan to use the HTML feature under Report Generation to export the formatted text from Labview. However, I am still not sure how I can extract the formatted text from a *string indicator* and transfer it to one of those VIs, so that it can be exported to other applications. Let me give some more specific info on what I am trying to achieve:  I am monitoring the communication between two pieces of equipment. A string indicator shows all the data flow, with different colors for data coming from different instruments. I managed to do that by using a property node and playing with the selection and font color properties. Now, if you just wire the output of the string indicator, the formatting is gone and all you get is just plain black text (for instance, try to programmatically transfer the formatted text from one string indicator to a different string indicator and you will see that the formatting is not preserved). Even if you try the "brute force" method of manually selecting and copying the text in the indicator and pasting it to Word, LV does not export the formatting. But, if you paste *within*  LV (for example, paste it to a string constant in your diagram), then it works. To extract the formatted string from the indicator, I also tried to use a property node, but without success. I am trying to avoid duplicating part of my code to generate the same color-coding scheme on a report. It would be way easier to be able to transfer the formatted text from the string indicator. This is particularly annoying, because the information is there, stored in the data structure associated with the string indicator. But how can I put my hands on it? Any ideas?

    One physical button is enough for a series of "functional buttons" per amount of simultanious visisble buttons. You can change the button prompt at run-time depending on a certain condition. That same condition can also be used when executing the when-button-pressed (wbp) trigger.
    Example:
    suppose you have 2 functions that you want to create buttons for: enter query and execute query. Only 1 button is visible at one time. In design time you create 1 button. In run-time, depending on :system.mode you set the button prompt to "enter query"or "execute query" and in the wbp trigger you write
    begin
    if :system.mode = 'QUERY'
    then
    execute_query;
    else
    enter_query;
    end if;
    end;
    Kind regards

  • Passing a parameter to a view from an Oracle Form ?

    Hello,
    Can I create a view on the database which takes a in a parameter from an Oracle form.
    If yes then what is the syntx , please let me know.
    Thanks

    There are ways to simulate a 'parameterized view'.
    Create your view and have it reference some value in an application context (look up in the manuals "application context feature").
    Then from your Form, just prior to selecting from the view, make sure you set the value in your sessions' application context.
