Printing some fixed length of a column in a report output

Dear All,
In the output of my ALV report, I am having one column as "TEXT" which is of length 500 characters. But I want that while I am displaying that value in the system then I should be able to see the complete 500 characters but while printing that column only first 100 characters of the column should be printed.
There are other columns in the report which should be displayed and printed as it is.
Kindly guide me in how this can be done.
Wam Regards,
N.Jain

  • Hide/Unhide Columns in WEBI Report output

    We have a WEBI report which has 2 columns/measures to display the cost in EUR and USD. User would like to have the flexibility to filter the column so as to display USD or EUR cost column. Is it possible to hide/unhide column in WEBI. Can we have a input control on multiple measures so that user can dynamically select which measures they want to see on report.
    Its possible in BEx Analyser using filter option on key figure. Is simillar functionality available in WEBI? We're on BO 3.1 XI. Is thre any other way to achieve this?
    Thanks,
    Milind

    hi,
         i think it is not possible to hide a column based on condition. but in webi 4.0 u have an option using which, u can hide/ show a table based on the user selection. in ur scenario, create two tables, one with value in USD and other in EU, super impose the table. then right onthe table and select "Format cell". in that u ll have a option to hide the table based on condition. select that and apply the condition.
    see the follwoing url for more info : http://bihappyblog.com/2011/11/05/dynamic-visibility-in-webi/

    Hi,
    I'm working an example in APEX 4.2 so YMMV (your milage may vary!).
    For Classic Reports, where the Column Attributes "Display As" is set to Display as Text (escape special characters ...:
    1) I find that Column width and Element Width setting have no effect to make the column smaller or larger.
    2) Here is one way that works:
    - In the Region's Region Definition, under Attributes give the Static ID a name (no spaces), say, class-report.
    - In the columns you want to affect, place "&#60;div>#ENAME#</div&#62;" in the columns Column Formatting "HTML Expression". Where "ENAME" here is the actual column name.
    I'm using the EMP table as an example.
    - Finally, in the page's HTML Header put, for example
    <style>
    #classic-report td.data[headers="ENAME"] div {
      width: 200px;
      color: blue;
    #classic-report td.data[headers="JOB"] div {
      width: 50px;
      white-space: nowrap;
      word-wrap: break-word;
    </style>This makes the ENAME column wider and the JOB column smaller and wraps it.
    Much more could be said. If you tweak you will find you can also affect spacing above, below and right/left of the data.
    #classic-report .report-standard th.header {
      border-left: #9fa0a0 1px solid;
      padding: 2px 3px 4px 5px;   /* top right bottom left margins */
      font-size: 11px;
      font-weight: bold;
      vertical-align: bottom;
    #classic-report .report-standard td.data {
      border-left: #9fa0a0 1px solid;
      padding: 3px 4px 5px 6px;
      font-size: 9px;
    }Does this help?

  • File Adapter - Multiple fixed length records in the same file

    Hi
    I am developing a BPEL process that "Sync Read" a file. The file is a flat file comprising of multiple records and each record is of fixed length. There are no delimiters in the file. I got the xsd associated to this flat file and each element is defined with some fixed length and starting position. The xsd is valid.
    When I execute the BPEL Process, I get the following error - I verified the file structure and the position of the fields map correctly. Remember this is not an xml file just a plain text file. Can BPEL process such files or should I always provide an "xml" file?
    <bpelFault><faultType>0</faultType><bindingFault xmlns="http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/extension"><part name="detail"><detail>Start of root element expected.</detail></part><part name="summary"><summary>Exception occured when binding was invoked. hi,
    see you actually read a XML file and when you read it it is verified by a XSD the location of the XSD is in the XML file it self,
    <tns:abc xmlns:tns="http://xmlns.int.aaa.co.uk/xmlns/BPELXXX"
    xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://xmlns.int.aaa.co.uk/xmlns/BPELXXX *c:/aaa/bbb/ccc/XSD/abc.xsd*">
    if the file you are reading is valid then it is read, other wise not, I am not sure about sys read, but in empty BPEL process, if the XML is not validated with the XSD, then the XML is not read, I am still not sure what is the meaning of flat file, are you doing a opaque read?

  • Filtering Fixed Length data type fields

    Hello,
    My application has filters on fixed length charcter(CHAR) columns. But the query do not return any data because of trailing blanks. I cannot use RTRIM function as there are many filters and modifying them will be a big project. So is there any SET variable that can be used to solve this problem?
    EX: select * from emp where name = 'SMITH' do not return any data.
    select * from emp where name = 'SMITH ' returns data.
    Thanks for help.

    So is there any SET variable that can be used to solve this problem?Nope. This is just one reason why CHAR dataypes are teh Suck and really ought to be avoiding.
    The other problem with using TRIM() is that it will invalidate any indexes on those columns, so you need to build function-based indexes, which is a PITN. An alternative approach would be to
    select * from emp where name = rpad('&ename', 15)
    /but that would require you to go through all your queries and apply RPAD which would be an even bigger PITN.
    I suppose a migration exercise to replace all your CHAR columns is out of the question????

  • Fill multiple columns of the report at once ???

    I have been told that when coding a Report, there is some way to fill multiple columns of the report at once.
    Instead of
    select
    field1,
    field2....
    You could do
    <????> filling field 1 and 2
    My source was vague as to what kind of thing it would be that could give a value to more than one column at one time.
    Can anyone help me here? Sorry to not have any more specifics.
    Thanks, Wayne

    You can have placeholder columns and assign the output of your select statement to the place holder columns.

  • Dynamically selecting column names in report builder ???

    Dear members,
    I have a requirement in which the user dynamically selects the tables column names. Like suppose take DEPT table. My query would be
    select &P Report from dept;
    so if the user selects DNAME then i would get the dname values and so on... This is fine but if one gives the value for the lexical parameter as DEPTNO,DNAME then i should get two columns in my report output. The select statement then becomes
    select DEPTNO,DNAME Report from dept;
    But i am not able to do this in report builder(6i). If i use just one value for the parameter then i get the o/p but if i use more than one (eg: DEPTNO,DNAME) then its giving an error.when i run this query through toad or sql plus then i am getting the desired o/p but wher as in report builder i am not able to get the o/p.
    My report triggers are :
    Before Parameter form :
    :P := NULL;
    After parameter Form :
    function AfterPForm return boolean is
    begin
    IF :P = 'DNAME,DEPTNO' THEN
    :P := ' DNAME,DEPTNO ' ;
    ELSE
         :P := NULL;
         END IF;
    return (TRUE);
    end;
    Your comments and suggestions are welcomed.
    thanks
    regards
    sandeep

    Number of columns can not be changed at run time. If your data model has three columns, lexical parameter should pass 3 values. If you have query like this in data model:
    select &p_1 from table
    Whatevere you have as initial value in user parameter p_1, data model captures that info.

    Thank you for the reply.
    I tried to exclude the values, but i dont find any chance to exclude them
    If i try the same from characteristic restriction, its allowing me to exclude.
    Is there any other possibility to restrict these? Please suggest

    I have a view I am trying to spool using fixed length columns, and the spacing is off. Ive tried numerous things such as specifiying the column width before running the query, using the rpad command, but nothing seems to work. I have to spool it to a text file in order for the users to import this file into another system. I would welcome any and all suggestions. Thanks so much. The following is the view:

  • Need to fix the width of a column in interactive report

    Hi,
    I have a column named 'Comment'. Its have a huge data due to which the lenght of that column in interactive report get increased. I need to fix the length to a desired value.
    I used following code in Region Footer:
    <style>
    table.apexir_WORKSHEET_DATA td[headers=COMMENTS] {
      _width: 300px;
      min-width: 50px;
      max-width: 300px }
    </style>
    Its solved the problem by fixing the width of the column but the column is not showing the full data now. It is hiding most of its part to fit it in that column.
    Please give some idea.
    Thanks,
    Chandru

    Hi,
    I believe you will want to add a height specification to allow for multiple lines.  And you may want/need to specifiy how you want lines to wrap.
    Add (for example):
      height: 60px;
      white-space: nowrap;
      word-wrap: break-word;
    There are defaults and several options for white-space and word-wrap.  You may want to look them up and give them a try for comparison.

  • Import data from a Fixed Length File into Oracle database

    Hi,
    I would like to import data from a Fixed Length text file into a table using HTML DB application.
    As of now, i have a .sql file(that uses external table) to import the data into Oracle tables
    I would like to integrate this in my HTML DB application so that the user can directly import the data into the table.
    Sample data
    XXXYYYYZZZZZ
    Data should be read to table that has
    Col1 Col2 Col3
    XXX YYYY ZZZZZ

    Hi,
    I would like to import data from a Fixed Length text
    file into a table using HTML DB application.AFAIK, fixed length imports are not something you can do directly with the HTML DB tools or available APIs.
    As of now, i have a .sql file(that uses external
    table) to import the data into Oracle tables
    I would like to integrate this in my HTML DB
    application so that the user can directly import the
    data into the table.Any fixed-length data needs to have a specification associated with it that indicates which character position begins a new column and what each column represents. Some also include what datatype should be used for each of those.
    If you really want to do this I would suggest that you create a table that you can store the file spec in. It would probably have columns for field name, start position, length or end position, datatype and any alias/column name you might want to apply. You would then use this table in a PL/SQL procedure (probably a package with the main processing procedure and various supporting procedures/functions) to read the file into memory, apply the file spec to each line and then do inserts into your table.
    Obviously, this is just a concept or strategy. Implementing it will depend on your PL/SQL skills and determination. If you want to pursue this strategy I'm sure you can find some jump-starts by doing a search on the PL/SQL forum.
