Privileges problem

After the last update, when I try to open iTunes a message pops up "You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." then iTunes closes and a error report shows...
what can I do?

Privilege problem in MUD, please help

When I was setting up MUD as SH.rpd following http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/bi_ee_1013/mude/mude.htm, i found a privilege problem.
After I merged Karen.rpd into local shared_sh.rpd, the shared_sh.rpd window opened, if now I perform "Publish to Network", it works well
but if I go on modifying this shared_sh.rpd, then perform "Publish to Network", it works well too... I just call the modify in this step "Modify A".
In my understand, the shared_sh.rpd must be read-only after merging, and what we can do only is checkinig global consistency or publish to network
Is it a bug of BIEE? if not, please tell me the reason.

MUD is really half baked tool regarding security. If you do it, it will allow you to modify it. The tool does not warn you. So, its your responsibility to make sure that once you check in, you also publish it to network. Each cycle has to be always complete. CheckOut --> Merge --> CheckIn -->Publish to Network.
If not, you are left with orphan rpds flying around in your local development rpd folder.

Access privilege problems after transferring user to computer

I gave my flat screen iMac (lamp-shade version) to my parents when I bought a new Intel Core Duo. They had an older iMac. Both their old computer and the one I gave them are running 10.2.8. I connected the computers with a firewire, created a new user (with admin status) and transferred their user info onto my old computer. It all seemed fine, except now when I log on as them all of the applications have access privilege problems. Is there a global way for me to give them read and write access to everything?

You may need to post this in one of the older iMac forums iMac (CRT) or iMac (Flat panel) where someone may still be running OSX which is that old. As you may realize with your new iMac and 10.4, much has changed.
Are you sure that when you sign in as the administrator and go to System Prefs/Accounts and view your access to the account that you created for them there are no access limitations?

hmmmmmmmmmmm. one other thing that might be worth a try if all else fails. i have once seen something like this turn out to be caused by a really kinky version of this issue:
iTunes: "privileges" or "permissions" issue when importing audio CD or adding music to library
... where the permissions were odd on the ipod itself ... but i've only seen that happen once. it's probably worth checking on only if nothing else seems to be working for you.

Privilege problem after installing 10.4.7 update

I started experiencing
1. not able to print to network printer from any applications - get error
2. Not able to mount fileshare disk on MacBook located on my local network - wheel just spins forever and need to stop process.
3. Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop silently quit
After fooling with my system I got no where until I reinstalled the printer drivers for my HP 1320n ... I was then able to print sort of from some applications ... but to get the driver download to install I needed first to setup the root account - could not install it from my privileged admin account - got error saying I did not have enough privilege... it installed great from the root account.
In fact I discovered that when logged in as root all the 3 problems above whent away?
I can find no indication as to what went wrong or what I need to fix... any ideas would be most welcome!! I did a disk repair of file protections using the apple disk utility and that did not help.
p.s.
I long for the bad old days when my mac was not as secure as fort knox but very usable ... seems I spend too much time over privilege and security problems of which I do not care because my Mac is only used by me in my home..

I had very similar, if not greater problems since 10.4.7. Yes, repair permissions etc, but I have huntch that it you try to verify your start up disk you will get a message saying there are a couple of issues that Disk Utility cannot repaier and that the "task failed on exit" or words to that effect.
If this is the case you need to repair the disk via "fsck" - as explained by Apple here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214 which says:
"Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:
** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***
Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.
Your computer should start up normally and allow you to log in."
I did this and it solved a lot of the issues and made everything a lot more stable.

Privileges problem when transferring large files

This just happened, and I don't know what changed. I cannot transfer large files from my Macbook Pro to my MacPro desktop, neither on the network nor by a USB hard drive. I get the infamous "You do not have sufficient privileges" message. The files start copying, and after about 1gb or so, the message pops up. Small files no problem, there's no restriction on those. It does not matter which disk I am trying to copy it to.
I thought it was just a problem with iMovie files and folders (these get big fast), but it seems to be an issue with any large file. I have repaired permissions on both disks, I have made sure that the unlock key is unlocked and that all the boxes are checked "Read & Write".
And this problem just arose today. Nothing has changed, so far as I know.

I assume I am always logged in as administrator because I have never logged in as anything else. It also does not matter from what folder, or even disk drive, I am trying to transfer from. If the file is above a certain size, it stops transferring and I get the error.
What interests me is not that I immediately get the "insufficient privileges" error when I try and transfer a forbidden folder or file. I've seen that. This happens after about a gig of data has transferred over already, then that error pops up.

Loadjava "Insufficient privileges" problem

I am attempting to use loadjava (8.1.7) to load some classes into another schema. It works fine, until I add the -grant option. Then, I get an "insufficient privileges" error. The target schema owner has the RESOURCE role, and I've granted EXECUTE ANY TYPE, EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE, CREATE ANY TYPE, CREATE ANY PROCEDURE, etc., with and without the WITH ADMIN OPTION suffix, directly to both the creating account and the schema owner, all to no avail.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Insufficient privileges is a rather generic problem. In this case in may be referring to java privileges. I suggest you read up on DBMS_JAVA.GRANT_PERMISSION and see what privileges are necessary to run your JSP.

I checked the grants of each of the VALMIN schema tables involved in the associated sql query & they all have SELECT grant (to BOLMIN schema). Also, the SQL query itself, when executed in BOLMIN schema runs perfectly fine. The problem is occurring only when I enclose the query in a procedure. Isn't that weird? or am I missing something here? Any help regarding this issue is appreciated. Thanks.
The BOLMIN schema as CREATE PROCEDURE privilege as I have already created other procedures for other purposes.

Privileges problems

I have recently purchased Chronosynch and have been having problems with privileges. I am trying to do a bi-directional sync between a desktop Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro. All of the files I am trying to sync are documents (mainly word, Excel and PDF) and are all in folders outside of the users home folder, i.e: MacHD/Data/DSBDataFiles. Two of the three folders sync fine consistently.
With the third folder I get anywhere from two to twenty errors generally saying I do not have privileges. I have gone in to the files using Get Info and unlocked and changed the privileges so both my wife(dsb) and I(csb) and Admin all have Read/Write with only myself (csb) being an admin. I verify that these privileges have been changed correctly. I can then sometimes sync that file or sub-folder. Sometimes that same file or folder will again give me a sync error and when I go back to check, the privileges have changed back to what they were. Also sometimes I notice that the privileges will delete the privileges for csb altogether and show the privileges for dsb twice. All of this is happening with no other applications running (other than running Chronosynch).
I have, at times, used the "Apply to All Enclosed Items" button, but like I said above, these files are all outside of the home folder and none were created by Apple. Some were created by a third party and sent to my wife.
The troublesome folder is much bigger than the other two and does contain more nested folders than the other two, but we're not talking super big. I think it is about 260 files and goes either three or four levels deep. One of the most troublesome files is a sub-folder, but a few of the data files are performing the same. And then occasionally I'll get a completely different file that changes privileges with no action on my part.
How do I troubleshoot? I'm thinking that this is an OS problem, but is it possible that it one created by Chronosynch? Should I be pursuing a problem in their support area?

I have never used Chronosynch, but it sounds to me like that application is re-setting the privs on your files and folders. I wonder if at one time your data was backed up from another, earlier OS install where your user IDs were different. That might explain why they are getting set badly and also why you can get multiple privs for the same user.
If there's some way to start your Chronosynch from scratch with your privs set the way you want them, then they should stay the way you want them. If you do start over, I also suggest that you put your shared data into the /Users/Shared folder instead of the Data folder that is on the root level of your disk. The Shared folder is for this type of purpose, and the root level of the disk is generally reserved for OS use.

Privilege problem....

1-I create a schema called "dguser" where all my tables are created...
2- i create a user called "es1" and i create a role "dgsg_dataentry",
3-i grant to role dgsg_dataentry a select on table person and grant role dgsg_dataentry to user es1,
4-i create a public synonym person for table dgser.person so user es1 don't have write each time he wants to acces table person dguser.person(he writes as all we know just person).
My problem is that user es1 can select from isqlplus normally all data from table person, but if user es1 want to create a pl/sql function where from the function he query the table using a cursor, at compilation time user es1 got the error table person doesn't exist, how the hell is that???? please can anyone help me and thank you....

The SESSION_ROLES view shows all roles that are currently enabled. If a named PL/SQL block that executes with definer's rights queries SESSION_ROLES, then the query does not return any rows.

Privileges problems, terminal help??

I have several users on the same computer, each had their own library in itunes. This meant lots of copies of music and so lots of waster harddrive space. A little while ago i managed to move all the music to the shared folder and linked the libraries. Everything went smoothley, or so i thought. When trying to accesss some of the music from some of the accounts, it says i do not have sufficent privileges. Narrowed down the problem to who owns the folder. Is there anyway i can quickly alter all the files contained within the iTunes music folder. I set up the correct privileges on the main iTunes music folder and selected to apply to all enclosed items, however it says i do not have sufficent privileges for that. This i worked out was because some items have become locked and no one can unlock them.

I would try using BatChmod while logged in under the appropriate account and setting ownership and permissions on the folder ~/username/Music/iTunes as follows:
R-W-X, R-X, R-X
To do this, launch BatChmod and click the File button. Then navigate to the folder iTunes and click the Open button. Make sure the owner is set to the correct user name, and group as well. Check the Apply ownership and permissions as well as the Unlock checkboxes, then click the Apply button. You may need to reboot after this to verify that things are working properly.

ITunes Access Privileges Problem

I've just purchased a new imac and tried to load itunes for the first time on this machine. I'm running OSX 10.6.7 and iTunes version 10.2.1
The application loads and i get to see the welcome screen, then a pop up box appears and says i dont have sufficient access privileges for this operation and the application then crashes. I've tried uninstalling itunes and downloading another version. I've tried creating another admin account and installing under a new profile. Each time the same problem.
Anyone have any ideas that might help?

I've had the same problem with the sync. I've tried all sorts of changing permissions with no success. It appears to be some communication problem between iTunes and Vista. I haven't heard any fixes for this. I guess all we can do is wait for another iTunes update.
Also, when syncing, some songs will go onto the ipod others wont, anyone have this happen? Seems strange that some songs would make it onto the ipod and others wouldn't when they all have the same permissions. Thanks.

Access Privileges problem

I am having trouble installing Adobe Flash Player 9 UB on my iMac it says I dont have enough access privileges, I am logged on as a Administrator,I have repaired permissions in disk utility and done terminal command ( sudo chmod 1775 /Volumes/"Volume Name" ) also done root command (chown -R userid /Volumes/XXXX ) all to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

These problems come from a bug with Adobe installers.
If you have a previous version of Flash (or other Adobe apps), and you wish to upgrade it, it must be installed from the same admin account used to install the previous version. If you no longer have access to the original admin account, follow the instructions on this page:

If you are seeing this problem with other non-Adobe apps, try trashing the old version of the app first before installing the new one.

I can't import my iTunes files into pages, how can i fix the privileges problem?

when i try to import any mp3 file into a pages document, i get an access privileges error saying it is either corrupt, damaged or "can't be used" because I don't have access privileges. This has happened since I moved my iTunes library to an external drive. Anyone have any solutions? The privileges on both the library folder, and all its files are set to read and write for sharing and permissions.

If you do not have done so, set the "Ignore Ownership" flag on the external drive. YOu can set this flag from the "File > Get Info" panel for the drive.
How is your external drive formatted?
Can other applications open these mp3 files? QuickTime? Do they play in the Finder preview?
Do the filenames contain special charcters?

I think Shared is only for viewing. Try giving full control on main folder( folder which has old reports) in users to the new user.

File access privilege problem when copying from 9.2.2 to 10.5.6

I have two Macs (one running MacOS 9.2.2, the other running 10.5.6) connected with an ethernet crossover cable. FileSharing over TCP/IP is enabled on both machines. When copying files from the 9.2.2 machine to the OS X one (initiated from the OS X side), after some files have been copied, I get an (OS X) error message to the effect of "insufficient file privileges for file "AppleShare PDS"", followed by a message "insufficient privileges for "Macintosh HD"" ("Macintosh HD" is the volume's name the data is copied from), after which copying terminates.
The FileSharing connection to the 9.2.2 machine is established using the only user on that machine, who has read/write rights on the entire source volume.
Both volumes have been checked with the respective OS's disk utilities and reported OK.
Any ideas how to solve this?

You might try restarting, then immediately hold the mouse button down, keep it held down until booting has finished. That's a hardware-based command to the Mac to eject all removable media.
