  • I can't seem to print to PDF from other programs.  I have Acrobat 9 (with latest update), Windows 8, and when I try to print to PDF it defaults to a  *.prn file, and when I change the name to *.pdf the file that it produces doesn't open.

I can print to PDF using PDF995, but not the regular Adobe PDF that comes up in the list of printers.
I've tried repairing the Adobe installation, but that didn't help.

It might help to understand the process, though I am almost surprised that AA 9 worked for printing on Win 8 (thanks for that info). Normally the print process is to print to the Adobe PDF printer (without the print-to-file checked). The process does create a PRN file that is actually a PS file. AcroTray (running in the background) completes the process of taking the PS file and running Distiller in the background to create the PDF. If you have problems, you should be able to print to file (assuming the print driver works -- but you indicate it does) and then opening the PRN file in Distiller to create the PDF.

How can I print a prn file on HP6500; I have windows xp

Perhaps some additional information would be helpful.  Does the HP6500 refer to a printer?  If yes, is the print driver and software installed on the computer that has XP?  I assume "prn" refers to some picture file or not?

  • How can I sent a .prn file to my networked printer in windows 7

OS Windows 7, HP Photosmart 7510 wirelessly connected.  The .prn is an old file created with s/w no longer applicable to WIn 7.  Right clicking on the .prn file does not list the "Print" option.
I've read articles on using the Run and DOS cmd to use "copy /b" command, but can't make it work, using \\computername\printername.  "Print" command doesn't work because I guess it's a network printer?  (PRN not setup)

There should be an easier way to send a file to a printer then using DOS commands?  Tried dragging and dropping, didn't work.

    >> ... I didn't realize the .prn file created were dependent on the type of printer ...
Most (but not all) of the output originally intended for HP LaserJet (or clone) printers can be printed on newer LaserJet models, which (apart from the cheap 'host-based' models) usually support the PCL5, PCL6 and PostScript Page Description Languages.
But inkjet devices use a larger set ofPDLs (and, in most cases, not the same as those supported by LaserJet printers), so there is much more potential for incompatibility.
Some PCL Viewer applications (e.g. SwiftView, PCL Works) should be able to display the contents of your .prn file(s), and may be able to convert them to raster images which can then be printed on a different printer model.

  • How do I open a .prn file that only shows in my directory as file?

I frequently print to file in my HP Photosmart 7260, working in XP.  However, the files should show as .prn files, but are now showing as 'File'.  How do I open them...what driver or application do I need to associate these 'file's in order to open them?

  • Create pdf-files trough prn-files in a windows service applicatio

    Hi,
i have also the problem to create pdf-files from .prn-files.
in normall windows aplication we ar using the distiller but we would like to create the pdf's by running our application as windows service.
in this case it is not possible to use the distiller. As i understood we have to use the acrobat PDG Generator as a server application.
My question is, is it possible to make function calls to the service where i pass trough the prn-file and the according pdf-file is than created immediately.
This is important because the created pdf-file ist than used for different purposes.

  • How to generate .PRN file from a ReportDocument object in Crystal Reports 10.

    Hi,
I have reports created in Crystal 10 version. From the VB .Net code I am able to load the report to ReportDocument object and able to print it to the local printer. Now I need to generate .PRN file of the report for faxing purpose.
Can anyone help me one this?.
    Thanks,
    Srini.

    Hi Joanne,
Boxes do not actually have a 'name'. When you add a Box in a report, it will be called 'Box 1' by default. And the only place this name is visible is under the Report Explorer.
Or do you mean to say 'Text Object'?

  • Changing a prn file back to a pdf file

I was using an on line pdf reader and did not have a printer, so I saved it  not a pdf file but a file to print (prn) file.
How do I convert it back to a pdf file and so I can print it?

You probably can't. But it depends. Do you know what printer driver you used to make the PRN file?

  • Why suddenly will Adobe not print a PDF file but will only save as .prn file I cannot print

Why suddenly will Adobe not print a PDF file but will only save as .prn file that my computer will not recognize?  This is a new problem never experienced before.  I have tried updating all versions of Adobe Reader but still no results.

Turn off the "print to file" option.

  • Acrobat asking for a PRN file two times during the process

Hello all, let me explain this a little more :
    - i'm in MS Word (for exemple)
    - i want to convert the DOC into a PDF file
    - i use the "print --> Adobe PDF" or the "convert to PDF" icone (no matter)
    - Acrobat ask me to name the PDF file he will create. I answer
    - then he starts to convert
    - he stops and ask me to name a PRN file (???). I answer
    - he stops again, and ask me to name another PRN file (name must be different from the first one). I answer
    - then, he creates the PDF, and the 2 PRN files (???)
The point is, when i have 20 PDF to create, he stops 40 times... i have no idea why he's doing this.
Of course, the box "print to file" is not checked.
the computer is a Windows XP SP3, with Office 2003 and Acrobat 8 pro from the Creative Suite 3 Design Premium.
It is a shared computer. Everything worked fine before, but someone should have done something wrong on the computer... i do not find what.
    Anyone can help ? ;o)

This is interesting because it is not the box which Acrobat puts up.
That has a title of "Save PDF file as" and a "Save as type" of "PDF
    files".
The box you are seeing is exactly the one you get in Word when
printing to a file (not in other programs). So something is making
Word think it is printing to file - and as long as it thinks that you
    won't get a PDF.
It may be worth looking in the Printers Control Panel and checking the
PORT shown for the Adobe PDF printer. The port should be "Adobe PDF".
If the port is set to "FILE", you will see this effect.

Firstly, it seems to me that Java prints graphics rather than formatted text
    Secondly, from
    http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/2D/forDevelopers/java2dfaq.html#silent
so if you can't choose a printer in the first place - and that would mean you have to get the user to choose "Print to file"
Not sure if this is of much help ^^"

    i try to run that dos command through Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("COPY C:\\PrintFile.prn /B \\java103\\HPLaserJ");

    System.out.println(p);
    } catch (IOException e) {

  • I uninstalled the trial version - and now when I try to print from Reader it goes to a .prn file?

Even though the printer is selected in the print screen - Adobe always save to a .prn file - which I am then unable to print?

You have enabled print to file in your printer driver. Nothing to do with Reader at all.
