Pro*c db disconnect error on multiple threads

Running multiple users in separate threads results in sporadic errors on disconnecting from the database in a pro*c application running on redhat and an oracle 10g 10.2.0.4.0 db. When the error occurs, it coincides with two threads querying the database concurrently. Either both threads report an error or one. If both, they report different errors: first ORA-01403 (no data found) then ORA-01012 (not logged on). If only one, only ORA-01403 is reported. The same or different pro*c routines (which call stored procs) may be involved. As it occurs on concurrent threads, i tried modifying the code to disconnect twice from one call, but that returns a different error (SQL-02134: Invalid runtime context). Any idea what could be happening?

i have some more information on this issue. An error (non-zero sqlca.sqlcode) is returned after this line:
EXEC SQL COMMIT WORK RELEASE;
These are queries, so i don't think there is a problem with the commit. (They are stored procs. Even if there was a db update somewhere, why would commit return an error? It doesn't appear to timeout as it happens in millisecs.) Why would an error be returned on the disconnect (RELEASE)?
If this is the wrong forum, could anyone suggest a better one? I didn't find anything really appropriate.
Thanks in advance!

  • How to protect the creation of a db across multiple threads/processes?

    Given a multi-process, multi-threaded application, and one database file to be created, how can I guarantee that only one of the threads in one of the processes successfully creates the database, when ALL of the threads are going to either attempt to create it, or open it (if it already exists) upon startup?
    My current logic for all threads is:
    set open flags to DB_THREAD
    start transaction
    attempt to open the db
    if ENOENT
    abort transaction
    change open flags to DB_CREATE | DB_EXCL | DB_THREAD
    retry
    else if EEXIST
    abort transaction
    change open flags to DB_THREAD
    retry
    else if !ok
    # some other error
    end
    commit transaction
    I'm testing on Linux right now, with plans to move to Windows, AIX, and Solaris. What I'm experiencing on Linux is several of the threads (out of 10 threads I'm testing) will succeed in creating the database. The others will receive either either succeed in opening the first time through, or will receive the EEXIST when they do the open w/ create flags - ultimately, they open the same created db (I'm presuming the last one that's created by one of the other threads). Effectively, the open with DB_CREATE | DB_EXCL is not ensuring that only one DB is created. I was under the impression that opening in a transaction would guarantee this, but it does not, or maybe I'm doing something incorrectly?
    Should DB_CREATE | DB_EXCL and opening in a transaction guarantee that only one thread can create the database? Do I need to use another synchronization method?
    Note: I am running off of a local disk, not over NFS or anything like that.
    I tried taking out my transaction and using DB_AUTO_COMMIT instead, still no go - multiple threads still report they successfully created the DB. Using BDB 4.5.
    Thanks,
    Kevin Burge

    Brian,
    Thanks for the reply. I think I'm doing what you said, unless I'm misunderstanding. I do have all threads try to do the DB_CREATE | DB_EXCL. Are you saying I shouldn't use the DB_EXCL flag?
    The problem I was seeing with 10 threads calling open w/ DB_CREATE | DB_EXCL on the same db:
    * Between 1 and 9 threads would return success from db->open with the creation flags.... but the last one to create "wins".
    * All the other threads would get EEXIST, as expected.
    The threads that "lost", do get a successful return code from "open" with the create flags, but all data written to them is lost. They act normally except for the fact that the have a deleted file-handle that they are writing to. There's no indicator that records written to them are going into the void.
    My test:
    I had 10 threads each trying to create or open a recno db, then append 10 records, for a total of 100 records expected. Ultimately, I would end up with between 20 to 100 records in the db, depending on how many of the threads said they successfully created the db. So, if 5 threads said they created the db successfully, then 40 records would be missing, because 4 of those threads were writing to deleted file handles. If 2 threads said they created the db, then 10 records would be missing....If 8 threads, then 70 records missing, etc.
    In other words, multiple threads creating the db appears to work correctly, because there are no errors. It was the missing records that caught my attention, and prompted my question on this forum.
    For what it's worth, I've worked around the problem by opening a similarly named file via the open() system call, with O_CREAT|O_EXCL, which is guaranteed to be atomic. The first thread that can create this temp file is the only thread that can actually create the db - all others sleep upon open with ENOENT until it's created.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • HELP Needed with this error:   Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClass

    Folks,
    I am having a problem connecting to my MSDE SQL 2000 DB on a WindowsXP pro. environment. I am learning Java and writing a small test prgm to connect the the database. The code compiles ok, but when I try to execute it i keep getting this error:
    "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Test1"
    I am using the Microsoft jdbc driver and my CLASSPATH is setup correctly, I've also noticed that several people have complained about this error, but have not seen any solutions....can someone help ?
    Here is the one of the test programs that I am using:
    import java.sql.*;
    * Microsoft SQL Server JDBC test program
    public class Test1 {
    public Test1() throws Exception {
    // Get connection
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new
    com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver());
    Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection(
    "jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://LAPTOP01:1433","sa","sqladmin");
    if (connection != null) {
    System.out.println();
    System.out.println("Successfully connected");
    System.out.println();
    // Meta data
    DatabaseMetaData meta = connection.getMetaData();
    System.out.println("\nDriver Information");
    System.out.println("Driver Name: "
    + meta.getDriverName());
    System.out.println("Driver Version: "
    + meta.getDriverVersion());
    System.out.println("\nDatabase Information ");
    System.out.println("Database Name: "
    + meta.getDatabaseProductName());
    System.out.println("Database Version: "+
    meta.getDatabaseProductVersion());
    } // Test
    public static void main (String args[]) throws Exception {
    Test1 test = new Test1();

    I want to say that there was nothing wrong
    with my classpath config., I am still not sure why
    that didn't work, there is what I did to resolved
    this issue.You can say that all you like but if you are getting NoClassDefFound errors, that's because the class associated with the error is not in your classpath.
    (For future reference: you will find it easier to solve problems if you assume that the problem is your fault, instead of trying to blame something else. It almost always is your fault -- at least that's been my experience.)
    1. I had to set my DB connection protocol to TCP/IP
    (this was not the default), this was done by running
    the
    file "svrnetcn.exe" and then in the SQL Server Network
    Utility window, enable TCP/IP and set the port to
    1433.Irrelevant to the classpath problem.
    2. I then copied all three of the Microsoft JDBC
    driver files to the ..\jre\lib\ext dir of my jdk
    installed dir.The classpath always includes all jar files in this directory. That's why doing that fixed your problem. My bet is that you didn't have the jar file containing the driver in your classpath before, you just had the directory containing that jar file.
    3. Updated my OS path to located these files
    and....BINGO! (that simple)Unnecessary for solving classpath problems.
    4. Took a crash course on JDBC & basic Java and now I
    have created my database, all tables, scripts,
    stored procedures and can read/write and do all kinds
    of neat stuff.All's well that ends well. After a few months you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

  • Problem with multiple threads accessing the same Image

    I'm trying to draw into one Image from multiple threads. It works fine for a while, but then suddenly, the image stops updating. Threads are still running but the image won't update. I'm using doublebuffering and threads are simply drawing counters into Image with different speed.
    It seems like the Image gets deadlocked or something. Anyone have any idea what's behind this behavior or perhaps better solution to do such thing.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Sorry Kglad, I didn't mean to be rude. With "No coding
    errors" I meant the animation itself runs with no errors. I'm sure
    you could run the 20 instances with no freezing (that's why I put
    the post :) ) But I'm affraid it is an animation for a client, so I
    cannot distribute the code.
    Perhaps I didnt explain the situation clearly enough (in part
    because of my poor english...).-
    - By 20 instances I mean 20 separated embedded objects in the
    html
    - The animation is relatively simple. A turned on candle, in
    each cycle I calculate the next position of the flame (that
    oscilates from left to right). The flame is composed by 4
    concentric gradients. There is NO loops, only an 'onEnterFrame'
    function refreshing the flame each time.
    - It's true that I got plenty variables at the _root level.
    If that could be the problem, how can I workaround it?
    - It is my first time trying to embed so many objects at the
    same time too. No idea if the problem could be the way I embed the
    object from the html :(
    - The only thing I can guess is that when a cycle of one of
    the object is running, the other 19 objects must wait their turn.
    That would explain why the more instances I run, the worst results
    I get. In that case, I wonder if there's a way to run them in a
    kind of asynchronous mode, just guessing...
    Any other comment would be appreciated. Anyway, thanks a lot
    everybody for your colaboration.

  • Is there any problem to use multiple threads to send email with JavaMail

    Dear all,
    I am using JavaMail 1.3.2 to send emails with SMTP, it works very well for a long time.
    But one day, I found that the email service hanged and I could never send email again until I restart the tomcat. I found that the reason was a deadlock had been created, the required resource for sending email had not been released.
    I guess the error is due to multiple threads are sending email at the same time. I made a test to create seperate thread for sending each email. After few days, I found this deadlock happened again. So, my question is: Can I use JavaMail with multiple threads? If not, I may need to sychronized all the thread that using JavaMail. I would like to make sure this is the reason for causing the deadlock problem.
    Here is part of my code for using JavaMail:
    transport = session.getTransport("smtp");
    transport.connect(email_host, smtp_user, smtp_pass);
    message.saveChanges();
    transport.sendMessage(message,message.getAllRecipients());
    which is very standard call, and it worked well for a long time.
    Here is part for my thread dump on tomcat:
    (Thread-339)
    - waiting to lock <0x5447c180> (a sun.nio.cs.StandardCharsets)
    (Thread-342)
    - locked <0x5447c180> (a sun.nio.cs.StandardCharsets)
    It seems that these happened after call the method transport.sendMessage() or message.updateChanges()
    , and the underlying implementation may require the JRE StandardCharsets object. But the object had been locked and never be released. So, the sendMessage() or updateChanges() can't be completed.
    Please give me some helps if you have any idea about it.
    Thanks very much!
    Sirius

    Note that the Nightly build gets updated daily (and sometimes more than once in case of a respin) and it is always possible that something goes wrong and it doesn't work properly, so be prepared for issues if you decide to stay with the Nightly build and make sure to have the current release with its own profile installed as well in case of problems.

  • Premiere Pro has encountered an error.  CS6

    Dear Adobe Community
    I would be grateful for some help as Premiere Pro has begun crashing on me.
    I am using CS6 - on two different Mac computers that both encounter the same problem.  I am making a film 1920 x 1080 made up of almost 60 smaller films of 180 x 180 pixels with a color matte underneath them.  Everything had been going fine and I was able to export three different versions of the film.  Now unfortunately it no longer works!
    Using the same process, that I used before that worked successfully, I select all the elements of the timeline and try and nest them.  At this point I get the following error message:
    Premiere Pro has encountered an error.

    On pressing Continue - it "quit unexpectedly".
    I've tried using a different Mac and have the same problem.
    I tried slim lining the project to just the assets that I'm using, saving and rendering and saving and it still keeps on crashing like this.
    I would be grateful for any help or advice.
    Thank you very much!

  • Premiere Pro has encountered an error.

    Hey All!
    Getting a new error popping when opening a project.
    Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    [/Volumes/BuildDisk/builds/tightykilt/shared/adobe/dvamediatypes/project/mac/../../src/Ti ckTime.cpp-207]
    I can usually click continue about 10 times and get the project to open. It only happens when clicking this particular project file. Of course all my backups of the same project are doing the same thing. AutoSaves don't have the error, but are too far back to revert to one of them. It doesn't seem to effect my ability to work on the project. Just a little concerned because this is a long form doc with a couple hundred hours of footage and a tight deadline. Hoping to be able to get through it. Any ideas what this is?
    Best!
    Dave

    Hey John! Yeah, same thing. In fact, same thing on multiple machines! Seems to be that something strange has happened to that project and that specific file.
    Previous AutoSave files are fine but the latest one is from 5hours before the original project file, so they're useless to me.
    Up unitl now, PPro 6 has been incredibly stable. And keep in mind I can still get the project open and work, so I'm not down because of it.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.3 Crashes when opening multiple files

    Acrobat Pro 9.3 Crashes when opening multiple files. I have not seen any solutions in forums that solves this problem. I have just done the most recent update and it still crashes.

    Acrobat Pro 9.4.2 (CS5) is doing the same thing on my Windows XP SP3 with 3.5 GB of ram and 206 GB of my brand new 300 GB hard drive free.
    It starting doing this at the end of last year before my hard drive died.  Then after rebuilding the entire system on this new drive it worked fine, until I downloaded all the updates and now it is broken again.  Anytime I open more than one PDF, Acrobat crashes.  I send the error report every time.

    Hi,
    I can see an assertion error from the log which has caused the datastore to invalidate
    15:44:09.44 Err : : 23922: 17268/0x2aad67ef1820: Assertion failed: len > 0 [ttree.c:4.391:tnLookup():6884] PID 17268 (java) CONN 82 (java) 2012-03-08 15:44:09.433
    1) Any stack trace being dumped in the .inval file created at the datastore directory ?
    2) Any sql operation you were doing when this issue happened?
    This issue might be due to the BUG 6671095 - KILL TEST: ASSERTION FAILED: LEN > 0 [TTREE.C:4.391:TNLOOKUP():6884] , but there is no fix for this bug yet.
    I would prefer you raise a Service request at support.oracle.com so that we can work further on this issue. Please note that 7.0.5 is very old TT version so you should consider to upgrade to latest versions soon.

  • Quicktime plugin disconnect error in Snow Leopard

    I have a bit of a problem with Quicktime X in snow leopard. We use a Codian bridge quicktime stream for classes at our college and Snow Leopard has stumped me.
    A problem we run into on occation is the -3184: Disconnected error when some clients are behind firewalls due to UDP streaming. Now normally this is a quick fix as you just go under your quicktime preferences and set your transport protocol to HTTP.
    Unfortunately with quicktime X apple has seen fit to completely remove any preference adjustments. Now I know you can install quicktime 7 from the disk, but this does not give the preferences back. Does anyone know how to force quicktime 7 to be used for streaming media in firefox instead of QTX? Or how to get preferences back? Or heck even to completely cripple X and just use 7?
    I've got a lot of Mac using students that are stuck without classes right now.

    Well. I guess I wasn't as helpful as I thought I could be.
    Obviously the options are available to me because of the way I upgraded from Leopard (from Tiger, Panther and Jaguar) to Snow Leopard. Heck. I still have a working copy of QuickTime 6.5.2 on this Snow machine because it offers features not found in version 7.
    My only suggestion to you would to be upgrading a machine that previously had Leopard (and QuickTime Player Pro) to Snow Leopard OS.
    I don't really understand this issue and it may be more complex than I can figure out. All of the codecs (compressor/de-compressor) should be somewhere on your machine otherwise you couldn't view a file with these "legacy encoders". It's just that a QuickTime export doesn't give you the option to "use" (compress) them.
    Is there a technical reason why you need Sorenson Video 3 encoder?
    Here is another of my older Web pages that uses Sorenson Video 3 (in part):

    Does it work for you?

    I cannot print wirelessly from Macbook Pro: this is the error message I receive /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpII.app/Contents/MacOS /rastertoescpII failed. Can anyone help. I have been able to print on this printer for months, then yesturday out of the blue I get this error.

    "/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpII.app/Contents/MacOS /rastertoescpII failed"
    I also saw this same error message above the Print Queue, ever since allowing the Epson Printer Software Update (August 2013) to install. After this update installed, I was able to print a basic Test Page from the Print Queue, but when printing from any application I only got "Looking for printer..." displayed above the Print Queue, which would stall and never print.
    2008 MacBook, 10.7.5. It used to print to my Epson WorkForce 845 wirelessly without problems, before this software update was installed.
    Changing the driver from "Epson WorkForce 845" to "Epson WorkForce 600 - Gutenprint v5.2.3" was a workaround that did allow me to print, but I wasn't satisfied with that.
    Found this better solution in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5233149?start=0&tstart=0
    (with thanks to Yuengdog1983):
    This issue may be a result of the Computer Name being left empty:
    Open System Preferences and choose Sharing.
    Enter a name for your computer.
    Even without restarting the MacBook, I was able to now change back to using the Epson WorkForce 845 driver v9.0 successfully. I never would have guessed that a Computer Name is required in order to print!

  • Urgent : Premiere Pro has encountered an error

    Bonjour,
    Depuis plusieurs jours nous sommes nombreux à être confrontés à un bug Adobe très critique. Lors de la réouverture d'un projet, Premiere plante et affiche les messages d'erreur suivants :
    "Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    f:\mightysilt_win64\shared\adobe\mediacore\mediafoundation\api\inc\keyframe "
    Puis :
    Debug event f:\mightysilt_win64\shared\adobe\mediacore\mediafoundation\api\inc\keyframe
