Pro*C Limitation - 4K character limit

Hi,
I have a problem with a Pro*C application. I'm trying to retrieve a CLOB type data from a table but I've been told that Pro*C limits data retrieval to 4K only i.e. varchar data type can only handle this limit.
How can I get around this problem?
Many thanks.

The SQL limit for varchar2 is 4000 bytes. This is nothing to do with Pro*C.
Pro*C supports LOBs and is extensively documented:

  • Footer character limit

    There seems to be a 512 character limit to footers in Acrobat Pro, starting with Acrobat Pro 9. We have a publication with legalese at bottom of each page, 512 characters is not enough to fit it. Any way around this limitation? The text changes each day, with a new publication volume and number.

    So I had some time to revisit this footer issue that I was having and I have an answer to the character limit problem I was having.
    I created an Action Wizard action and instead of trying to fit all of the text into a single footer I made two footers---each with two lines of text. I used the baseline leading to determine the position of the 2nd pair of lines, so everything lines up nicely. Then I added *flatten layers* action which makes the footer permanent on all pages. For the first line I left the *prompt user* box checked so I can enter the volume and issue numbers which change each day.

  • Does Siri have a character limit when composing emails?

    Hello,
    I have been trying to use Siri to get some emails done while I'm driving. I can start the email okay, I can get the "Subject" just fine, and I can get into the body of the message just fine. However, as I start dictating the body of my email, Siri will interrupt me in the middle of speaking and ask me if I am ready to send it. This will happen when I am mid-sentence---literally.
    I'm wondering----is this because I have reached some sort of character limit that I'm not aware of, and once that limit is reached you can't do anything except send it? I say "period" and "comma" as I'm speaking, but there is no long pause to make Siri think I'm done speaking. I am speaking the entire time, and Siri interrupts me mid-sentence and mid-word right in the middle of me speaking.
    Any idea what's going on? Thanks!

    The limits are the same-hardware and software-and refer to the ability to address the memory.
    If you have a 32bit operating system, it's limited by the same 4GB limit (2^32=4,294,967,296).
    If you have a 64bit operating system (such as OS X Tiger) running on a 64bit computer, it's theoretically limited to about 17 Billion GB.
    So, with Tiger, you're not likely to run into a memory limit anytime soon.

  • Accounts character limit

    Can someone advise what the character limit for accounts is?
    I have noticed that the documentation mentions it is 30, but when checking the field under views it shows 80 and we can add an account larger than 30.
    If the field has been changed to 80 are there any other conflicts it may run into if I go above the documented limit of 30? or have they just not updated the doco.
    Thanks for your help
    Nick

    Hi Nick ,
    Yes, the account name can exceed 30 characters in 11.1.1.6 . The 30 character limit was the old limit on 10g but has been extended to 80 characters.
    This limit is set in the database tables and can go to 80 characters in 11.1.1.6.0.
    SQL> describe documentaccounts;
    Type VARCHAR2(80)
    80 characters is the default and is related to the OS limits because the account name is used as part of the filename.
    Documentation has not updated this information for the newer releases .
    Thanks,

  • Character Limit for PDF Bookmark

    What is the maximum number of characters that Acrobat allows for a PDF bookmark?

    Please post what you find with BB10 re: the hard limit or character limit for Contact Notes. If BB10 simply carries over their existing limits to their new platform (which is very stingy), then this could be a deal breaker. I'd be VERY disappointed but definitely NOT surprised.
    By the way, I bought a 3rd party program that syncs BB with Outlook and any other program and it's called "CompanionLink" and it works with BB Desktop seamlessly. You don't even know it's running as you still sync using the native BB desktop. CompanionLink increases the hard limit that BB has set for Contact Notes, Tasks, etc. However, there is still a limit. So instead of getting maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 page of notes (on a word doc) you get almost a full page.

  • E55 contacts note field 1000 character limit

    In PC Suite, in can enter really long text into the contacts note field. Unfortunatelly, E55 displays first 1000 characters only (according to my tests), despite data being there after a successful synchronization.  How do I know? I can synchronize the same E55 with  MSOutlook in the next step, where the complete note field is transfered, not just the first 1000 characters.  Is it possible, to get rid of this silly 1000 character display restriction? By the way, in my old E71, I did not have this problem.

  • AE 5.2: Reminder message character limit error

    Hi,
    I was trying to add some additional information into reminder email messages and when saving the changes I receive the message:
    "You can not enter more than 800 characters"
    My changes were not saved.  The total text I had in the message (excluding subject) was only about 600 characters. How can I get around this apparently arbitrary character limit?  What controls this?

    Hi Ian,
    behind the visible, SAP saves a lot of HTML Code for paragraphs, font style and sizing. The limitation of the database field will be 800 characters, including all the HTML tags you don't see.
    If you look into the database table VIRSA_AE_WF_RQNTFC field NOTIFICATIONCONTNT you will see the "invisible" can be quite a lot!

  • Identifiers: 30 character limit

    Hello,
    does anyone know why Oracle is (still) limited to 30 characters per identifier? Why 30? Why not 40? Or 32?
    Do all identifiers have the same limit? Identifiers are, schema, table, column, constraint, index, stored procedure, trigger, cursor, function, data type names etc...
    Karsten

    No idea on the origin of the 30 character limit, but it's been that way for a few decades, so I'm sure it dates from a decision made in the very earliest days. If I had to guess, there were a couple of bytes reserved for overhead (things like the length of the identifier) and 30 bytes of identifier to fit in a 32 byte structure.
    Other than Java stored procedure names, yes, I believe all identifiers are limited to 30 characters.

  • How can I get around the character limit in the "print pages" option

    I have a rather large PDF file and I need to print certain pages (for example, pages 1, 324, 456, 759, 812, 946, 1206, 1562, 1792, etc.). However, when I click on print and try to type in the pages, there is a character limit, and it is much smaller than the number of characters I need to type. Is there a way around this? Thanks.

    OK I figured out the answer. Ctrl+J opens up the console (You have to activate javascript). The following script will extract the pages into a new document, and then you can simply print those pages. All you need to do is fill up the "pageArray" array with a list of your pages, separated by commas. It does not support ranges.
    // Extracts all pages listed into a new document
    var pageArray = [INSERT YOUR LIST OF PAGE NUMBERS HERE, SEPARATED BY COMMAS];
    if (pageArray.length > 0) {
    var d = app.newDoc();    // this will add a blank page - we need to remove that once we are done
    for (var n = 0; n < pageArray.length; n++) {
    d.insertPages( {
    nPage: d.numPages-1,
    cPath: this.path,
    nStart: pageArray[n]-1,
    nEnd: pageArray[n]-1,
        // remove the first page
        d.deletePages(0);

  • Character Limit to Custom Calculation Script?

    Hi. I have a document that has a text form field. I want to run a custom calculation script that basically says if field "Group Number" = xxxxxxx, then field "Group Name" should = ABC Company.
    I have a list of almost 575 group numbers and names that I need to put in the script. And I've got the script working just fine but I am guessing there is a character limit to the script field???? It won't let me put my full list in there.
    Any suggestions on how to get around this??
    Thanks,
    Brandy

    I think I might have one error but I thought I had corrected it. Let me run this by you. My "if" lines are like this:
    if(a == '88096') event.value = 'Stacy's Carpet Steam Cleaning Company';
    But the code doesn't seem to like the ' in the Group's name. Is there a way to correct that without getting rid of the ' .... ?????

  • Is there a character limit for a field in CrystalReports?

    Is there a character limit for a field in CrystalReports?
    Hello,
    I'm trying to display a long text (+100.000 characters) stored in a MySql database in CrystalReports but CR is not showing the complete text. Is this because there is a length limit for fields in CR?
    Thanks,
    Eddy G.

    This is not a great answer, but you can base your report on a SQL Command, then use something like this for the command(MS SQL):
    select
      case when length(table.field) > 65535
          then substring(table.field,1,65535)
          else table.field end as field_part1,
      case when length(table.field) > 65536+65535
          then substring(table.field,65536, 65535)
          when length(table.field) between 65536 and 65536+65535
          then substring(table.field,65536, length(table.field)-65535)
          else '' end as field_part2
    from table...
    Then in the report, display both fields where you want the BLOB data.

  • Is there a character limit for iTunes U course postings when viewing in iOS app?

    I have created a course in iTunes U using the web interface, but when I view the course on my iPad it doesn't show the entire post. Is there a character limit in the app or something for what will display?
    To make things even stranger, I went back to the course editor in my browser and saved it again (effectively re-posting it) and when I restarted the iTunes U app in iOS the post was cut even shorter!  I'm using an iPad 3rd gen with iOS 6.0.1.

    No, there is no workaround. You would need to find a downloadable copy of old apps.

  • JKM DB2 400 column and table name 10 character limit

    I am trying to set up CDC on an iSeries. I have successfully loaded data with the LKM SQL to Oracle, and now I want to set up CDC for the table and am trying to use "JKM DB2 400" . I get invalid token errors when I try to start journalizing, and it appears to be the table and column names, used to set up CDC, which are more than the 10 character limit. Tables like SNP_JRN_SUBSCRIBER seem to come from the getJrnInfo function and other table and column names are hard coded. I want to copy the JKM and reduce all of the names to less than 10 characters.
    Where else are these names used? How does the interface know which table names to use when set to use only journalized data and how can I change it to use the new shorter names? Is there a better solution?

    Thanks to all for assistance. It turns out that the 10 character limit, about which the server people warned me, isn't an issue with my ODBC connection. The invalid token error was being caused by some missing qualifiers in the generated sql which caused appearances of ".tablename" rather than "tablename" and other similar. I was able to modify the knowledge module to eliminate this issue and the CDC worked correctly on my first test.
