Pro*Fortran for Linux

We are porting a system over to Linux machines from an SGI. It uses sql calls
in the fortran code which on the sgi were
handled with the ProFortran compiler. Apparently, Oracle does not support the ProFortran compiler on Linux. Is there a
way to get one, or will it be supported in
the future?
Thanks,

Doesn't appear to be part of the Linux bundle. It may not have been ported. I checked 10gR1 and 9.2.x.

I too received this error. This error is related to the version of the .h files you use. On Linux there are a couple of versions of some header files. Some in /usr/src and some in /usr/lib. The stdarg.h and stddef.h from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/...... appear to be the ones that worked for me. I fixed this problem by doing a "locate" on stddef.h and updating the $ORACLE_HOME/precomp/admin/pcscfg.cfg file to point to and include the correct .h file(s). I also started with the demo_proc.mk file as my base since the make files from my SUN box not longer worked. I also tried copying some files to the /usr/inlcude directory since this is a default location for header files. Bottom line, get the right stddef.h, stdarg.h and *.h files. Hack up demo_proc.mk if needed. There are a number of bugs in PRO*C for Linux. Many are simple things such as the static nature of the PRO*C configuration environment. Hop this helps. Regards.

  • FormsCentral PDFs not working for Linux and Unix users

I recently created a PDF (using Indesign > Acrobat IX Pro > Formscentral [AFC]) that includes radio buttons, form fields, linked videos set to play in the PDF once clicked and (after running through AFC) a submit button.
The form has been distributed and we have already had hundreds of successful responses collected in the AFC site, all is working well there.
One major problem we are having is that we have a lot of Linux/Unix users and the response from them is that they can't activate the videos, the form fields are out of kilter alignmentwise and the submit button does not work. Even when using the proper Adobe Acrobat Reader (v9, for example).
Is the Adobe development team aware of problems such as these for Linux/Unix platforms and is there a suggested fix that they know of?
The link to the actual file is here: http://cms.iopscience.iop.org/alfresco/d/d/workspace/SpacesStore/b5a48eac-8642-11e2-8cf8-e 50acbc9fd86/NJP-Video-Abstracts-Competition-2013.pdf
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Jesse,
can you email me ([email protected]) the original PDF (before you imported it in FormsCentral)? Also, I'm curious about the format of the video in the PDF. Does the video in the PDF worked in Linux/Unix before going through the FormsCentral import/export?
When I look at your PDF on my Red Hat Entrprise Linux 6.0 system with Reader 9.5.4 it does look fine (location of the fields) but the video generate an error (which I'm still investigating). I have not yet try the submit button on your form (as I don't want to submit bad data to you) but I seem to have an issue with the submit button on other PDF forms I generated (when I try to submit from a linux machine). Still investigating that as well.

  • Why Apple does not offer support for linux?

We all know the history of Apple. It clearly shows a trend to be open source, excepting for the licenses they share with Microsoft. In my personal case, I love open source because it has solved several of my problems. Just to share this with everyone, I am the network manager of a educational institution and I used to have my servers running on windows platform. Since we used to buy it all from Microsoft, they would give us free software for or labs, software like Visual Studio. They even assigned us engineers to plan everything for our servers, free of cost. Guess what? It was a disaster. We had our database destroyed by an external attack. We were “lucky” to have Microsoft in our servers and in our firewalls.
We had to take action, so I decided to switch to Debian, and to use IPCOP (a great dedicated firewall, if there is anyone interested, the link is: http://ipcop.org/ , please note, I am NOT affiliated with them, and I will receive no compensation or benefit if you chose to access it or not ). Both open source. The result, no external attack has been able to pass trough. After that, we switched most* of our e-learning platforms to open source, and guess what? We are saving over 60,000 yearly just in software. So for those who are looking for a good way to get good security without loosing an eye, try open source.
Now back to the point, I do not fully support any operative system. They all have their good features, or at least they should. The ones I know, are because I use them. My home network is composed by computers running in five different versions of Linux, two running in Mac OS X Tiger, and some others running in XP pro. My main computer is running in Ubuntu, and is really sad to see that there is no software from apple available for Linux. That is honestly the worst part of Linux, having no iTunes or QuickTime available. No way to see multimedia in the web, etc. A suggestion for apple would be, give support for Linux, there are a lot of us wanting the same.

Apple makes software and hardware. Therefore they
offer a total solution. Now they even can have
windows xp running on their hardware. Making a
version of mac os to run on linix isn't practically.
Under a mac is unix and you can run unix software
with the mac so you could do ever thing you are
    doing with a mac.
I did not know Linux was one type of computer, like Mac...
Next topic, If I was willing to pay for it, this thread would not exist, because I can actually use a commercial software to adapt the windows web plug ins to Linux... If I was in charge of Apple, I would propose to develop free software support of my products, - plug ins and so - to other operative systems... But of course, even if I did, it would not be up to me. It would have to pass trough several layers of bureaucracy, and it would take a lot of time to be approved or rejected.
Anyway, the main issue is, the three most important OS's are Windows, Linux, and Mac. And that can't be denied. Now you can even run Windows in a Mac PC, and vice versa... besides being fancy, what else could I do with a Mac PC using Windows, when I can build a machine able to run Windows for less than 300 bucks? OK if you want to try a Mac in a i386 or a x86... but I still rather to be the proud owner of a PowerMac G5 than the owner of a Pentium 4 / AMD using Mac OS.
Also, I thought it would be fun to see the reactions and opinions of other people with this topic, hence, I was not expecting anyone from Mac to read it, and really do something about it, because I know they won't.

  • Pro*Cobol for Oracle 10g Express Edition is available?

Hi to all, this is my first post here.
I evaluating Cobol to Oracle products and I have find one it´s more
We installed Oracle 10g Express Edition (Server and Client), to test compatibility of a Cobol product.
This product requires the "rtsora" component, from Pro*Cobol, but we didn´t find it in any place in the instalation packages.
The documentation show the precompilers to be at $ORACLE_HOME/precomp but there is only two folders (admin and lib) with "ottcfg" files. Nothing more
Searching this and anothers foruns, I became to think if the precompilers facilities, like Pro*Cobol, may be available to the 10g Express Edition for Linux, OR, if this is a feature available only to the Standart Editions (or Windows)?
The instalation and users manuals appears to don´t distinguish the 10g standart from the Express Edition. Also, the Express Edition doesn´t ask for any kind of "customization oprtions" as I read about in another topics.
    Edited:
1 - We are using this on Linux Ubuntu.
2 - The Windows 10g Express Edition appears to be more complete, but I need to run this on Express Edition.
    Thanks in advance!
    (sorry bad english)

There is no official communication on 11G express edition release date .
You will have to wait and watch Oracle Official website for that .

  • New update for Linux??? Really??? Piece of crap...

    Way to go Microsoft!!!
You did an amazing job at completely destroying Skype for us Linux users.....
    I will explain...
I DON'T want to use pulseaudio, pulseaudio is known to be the worst sound module in Linux (you are hearing this from someone who works with pro-audio in Linux), ALSA has always been the most stable and most supported sound module in Linux.
Why? Just WHY? Did you stop supporting ALSA? Skype was working perfectly well with it! And Why?
This is probably the best question.....
Why did you make it impossible now for us users to use an older version of Skype? We are forced to use the latest 4.3 version, I tried reverting with no luck at all, for the first time in my computing life this is the first time I have ever seen something like this.
Do you really think I'm going to switch over to Windows just to use Skype? Do you think I'm really that stupid? It really is insulting. A program owned by a multibillion enterprise (which strangely now has advertising in it and the original one never did), there are other options for us, such as google hangouts, just another piece of software that I have happily removed from my computer, it was a great communication program before you bought it, lasted a few years, but today has been the day that I say "Goodbye Skype"....
    Who's your next target?
    Android?
    Haha.....
Good luck Microsoft, I stopped using your operating systems 10 years ago, not one day goes by that I miss them, I can easily do the same with Skype.

    Sokel wrote:
The problem isn't about supporting ALSA.
I am afraid it is about supporting ALSA.
    Sokel wrote:
It's the fact that pulseaudio controls the entire audio stack in most modern distros. That's not Skype's fault. Controlling ALSA outside of the pulseaudio stack can cause quite a few issues, since it's the front end.
In a system with Pulseaudio, ALSA is redirected to Pulseaudio by means of a PCM plugin. So there is no such thing as controlling ALSA outside of the pulseaudio stack, unless it is done deliberately.
In fact.... because of this there is no need to support Pulseaudio at all.... just support ALSA only  and people who want to use Pulseaudio (whoever that may be), will have working sound.
ALSA is the universal Linux sound API and has no flaws in this area.

  • 10 foot user interface remote options for Linux

    Hi people!
I already posted a topic asking how could i share my music, videos, etc, from my Arch PC to my Arch HTPC.
Now I'd like to hear suggestions about remotes, pros and cons, I've already considered these options:
1 - Buy an IR receiver and a standard remote will do the job (I already got a multifunction remote (which can control up to three devices and I only got a single device), but I'm afraid nowadays there aren't many USB receivers compatible with Linux and most importantly, they must be cheap, a PCI card is not an option since my PC has a half-sized case)
2 - Get a bluetooth USB adapter and control it using my cellphone (probably not very adequate, and it would quickly drain the cellphone's battery)
3 - Get a USB bluetooth adapter, build a Wii USB sensor bar, and buy a WiiMote (more expensive than other options)
I think the better suited option here is the first one, if only someone could recommend me a good IR receiver for Linux, I'd be very thankful)
Anyone has got more ideas? Or suggestions for reducing costs or improving usability about my options?
    Thanks everyone!

    I have one of these:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … -_-Product
    Which works fine with Linux.
Now I also don't use the remote a lot, since I'm running just a regular desktop on my htpc and control the pc through a keyboard with embedded trackpad:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6823111038
(they have both wired and wireless versions of these. I got the wired one with an usb extension cable)
(As a matter of fact, I'm posting this from my htpc )

  • Can I override Pro*Fortran's limit on Fortran variable name lengths?

The Fortran standards put a 31-character limit on the variable names in Fortran code. Some compilers allow you to exceed this as a compiler extension, and, unfortunately, our code has places where we actually do... The present software compiles and runs under with the Ingres 9.2 RDBMS, but we're starting the process of porting the code over to Oracle 11g.
The Pro*Fortran (we have release 1.8.79.0.0) precompiler only accepts the first 31 characters of a long var name (yes I found that limitation stated in the Pro*Fortran Precompilers guide). What I am wondering is if there is any way to override that and allow a longer name to be used. The Sun studio compiler accepts it, just not the precompiler. Searched the docs and found nothing about overriding things like this.
If necessary, yes I can shorten the variable names. I'm just trying to minimize the amount of code changes required.
    Jim

    You are correct.
5 lines below the QUERY DATA SOURCE NAME block property line
    is the ‘where clause’ line
    It already had FAC_ID = :FACILITIES.ID
I found that if I added my :Blk_name.Pass_cd_num
I could see it my new bind variable in a system.last_query display.
I found the QUERY DATA SOURCE NAME below the ‘from query clause’ truely
is the from clause and it will not except any :Blk_name.item_name
(Because is is just for tables)
But the ‘where clause’ property line will except bind_variables
:Blk_name.item_name is successful in the where clause.
(where Capturing_devices table being the block’s base table)
    -- **FROM**
    SET_BLOCK_PROPERTY('EMISSION_POINTS',QUERY_DATA_SOURCE_NAME,
    'EMISSION_POINTS A,
    EP_MODES B,
    CAPTURING_DEVICES,
    CONTROL_DEVICES CD');
    -- **WHERE**
    SET_BLOCK_PROPERTY('EMISSION_POINTS', DEFAULT_WHERE,
    'A.ID = B.EP_ID AND
    B.ID = CAPTURING_DEVICES.PARENT_MODE_ID AND F
    CAPTURING_DEVICES.CD_ID = CD.ID AND
    CAPTURING_DEVICES.CD_ID IS NOT NULL AND
    CAPTURING_DEVICES.PARENT_MODE_ID IS NOT NULL AND
    CAPTURING_DEVICES.STACK_ID IS NULL and
    B.FAC_ID = :FACILITIES.ID and CD.NUM = :emission_points.cd_id_num');
    --**ORDER BY**
    SET_BLOCK_PROPERTY('EMISSION_POINTS',ORDER_BY,
    '(A.NUM, C.PARENT_MODE_ID, C.CD_ID)');
    EXECUTE_QUERY;
I still get a FRM-40505: Oracle error: ‘unable to perform query’
(I know its because of the way it is coded),
But I did learn bind variables can work in the where clause.
Also I tried using the hidden field like you suggested.
If you put char character field in a where clause it will come out in quotes
So I assigned it to a block.hidden_item (number) like you suggested
that did strip off the quotes.
That left me with passing the value of 31, I need to pass 0031
I tried to do a LPAD to the value left pad it with zeroes
    But that did not work.
I went back to my effort in using a cursor loop to populate the block
    Thanks

  • Pro*Fortran support on Oracle 11g

    Hi,
I have received conflicting information whether Oracle 11g supports a Fortran precompiler or not. Does anyone know if Fortran precompiler is supported on Oracle 11g (I could find precompiler manuals easily) and on what platforms Fortran precompiler is/is not supported and what versions of 11g you would find this support ?
Could you also provide a link to the documentation where I could find this information and supported plantforms?

Studio Fortran has no special support for databases, nor does Studio provide Pro*Fortran.
Questions about database programming should be directed to a database programming forum.

  • Photoshop Elements for Linux?

It's probably been asked a million times before.  How about developing a Photoshop Elements package for Linux? I believe enough people would purchase a licensed version of your software. I personally own and use Bibblepro 5 and LightZone for Linux. To say people that use linux wouldn't purchase licensed software is totally wrong. There is I'm sure a market for your software besides Windows and Mac. Right now I  also use Picasa, Rawtherapee, Autopanopro, Ptgui,Sigma photo pro  and Hugin on my computer for Stitching software. You guys totally underestimate the market that is available out there for Linux users. We are growing bigger by the day as a community. I opted out of Windows a long time ago when I realized there were options  to use software on my system that was 'free to use' and 'free of viruses and trojans'. and also allowed me the option to install my OS on as many computers I personally own. Perhaps there are more. Many applications are still in heavy development stage but should be usable. I guess kexi and rekall are the two most advanced. Everything depends on what kind of usage are you planning.
