Problam of Closing exexute threads in test stand from c# code

Hi
I want to close my .net application therefor i need to close all test stand resource. to do so im using the follow lines:
axApplicationMgr1.CloseAllExecutions();
axSequenceFileViewMgr1.GetCommand(CommandKinds.CommandKind_Exit).Execute(false);
axApplicationMgr1.GetEngine().UnloadAllModules();
It dosent seem to be helpfull, because sometime after the application closed the proccess is still exist (i can see it in the windows task manager)
any idea how can i close my application and test stand togther?
yaniv

Hi yaniv,
Typically, you can simply call ApplicationMgr.Shutdown().
This will close all opened sequences and executions. If it returns true, you can exit out of the application and if it returns false, you can wait for an ExitApplication event to get generated at which point you can close the application.
For an example on how to do this, please refer to the C# Simple Operator Interface that ships with TestStand.

  • Problems in syncronyzing two threads into Test Stand using a Global Variable (TestStand 4.1.1)

I have one thread that is doing TCPIP Aquisition into a Global variable defined in Teststand. And I have another thread that it supose to read it. All are in the same sequence and execution. The problem is that the aquisition thread got a lot of bytes, while the processing thread is reading always only a few. Do you know what the problem could be?

I wasn't looking at your Sequence, I was looking at Receive_HDL_Block.JPG. What is that VI doing (the one with number 3 on the icon and Size_in_bytes as an input) ?
Where in teststand are you doing any checking?
I don't really understand your sequence.
You have a sequence (running in a new thread) (why), following by another called Receiver Handler (also running in a new thread) then two more sequences which seem to do some with transmitting something (also running as new threads). You are only waiting on one of these threads (the Receiver Handler). There does seem to be any loops in TestStand, you dont seem to be bothered about the other threads that you have running. What happens when this test sequence finally does stop, what is stopping the Threads that you have running.
Your pictures dont really seem to fit in with your Test Sequence, such as where does Test_005.vi fit into everything
The whole thing is a bit of a nightmare.
Maybe your best bet would be to scrap the lot and start again. Only this time have a better understanding of what you what to achieve, what would be best to put into Teststand and what to put into labview. Whether you really need all those new threads running.
    Sorry to be so blunt.

  • Test status from operator interface

    Hi,
I am using C# operator interface to execute a test stand sequence.I need to change test status LED colurs for each step as follows.
    Grey- Step not started
    Yellow- Step under progress
    Green-Step sucessfully completed
    Red- Step fail
    How can I implement this?
Can I read local variables  in test stand from operator interface and update status LEDs? Which API to be used for this?
    Kindly suggest..
    Regards
    SajK

    Hi SajK,
Are you referring to the LEDs in the List Bar on the left hand side of the OI that is associated with a particular sequence?
If so, the functionality you want to modify is controlled by the
ExecutionViewMgr, and is read only. In order to change the way in which
those icons are determined / displayed, you would need to disconnect
the ExecutionViewMgr from the Listbar. However in doing this, you'd
also be losing the automated functionality such as the display
messages, displaying multiple executions at the same time, etc. In
essence, you would have to re-invent a lot of features that the
ExecutionViewMgr takes care of for that List bar.
An easier, although slightly more work-around-ish option, is to simply
change the icon files that TestStand is using for the various states.
All of these icon files can be found here:
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand 3.x\Components\NI\Icons\NI_UIControls
You could simply change, for example, "ExecFailed.ico" to a solid red led, and TestStand would grab that on execution.
That would be the easiest way.
Hope this helps SajK, have a good one.

  • Error when closing test stand

when i try to close test stand after i run a test, i got the error in the
    attached file.
this error appear only if i dont close the sequence file before i exit test
stand and only after i run a test.
    please help me.
    advanced thank's.
[See first answer for additional information]

    Hello Avi,
The error is caused by TestStand not being able to finish the LoginLogout sequence before its time limit. These limits are set under Configure >> Station Options >> Time Limits. They will allow you to interrupt a sequence that is taking too long to shut down.
The real problem may be in the LoginLogout sequence, in the file \Components\User\Callbacks\FrontEnd\FrontEndCallbacks.seq (or substitute "NI" for "User" in the path). If something in that sequence doesn't finish executing within 10 seconds, due to an extreme slowdown or a problem with the sequence, you will see this error. If you have modified that sequence, this could be the cause. You will need at least two steps in the sequence, one for Login and another for Logout. They should
reference frontend.dll. If you have a modified callback in your User directory, trying copying the default callback from the NI directory.
Also, make sure that you complete or terminate other sequences before trying to close TestStand, or you will see a similar error message.
Good luck and feel free to ask if you have further questions.

  • How can I pass a variable from Test Stand to CVI by reference

    Hi!
I can't to pass numeric or boolean variable from Test Stand (for example: FileGlobals.StopFlag) into the step (CVI function).
    Function prototype:
void __declspec(dllexport) __cdecl PC2_WaitWhileResponceAppear(tTestData *testData, tTestError *testError, int *iStopFlag).
When variable has bin changed I can't see this change from my function.
    CVI 2010, Test Stand 2010
    Can anybody help me?

    Hey Rombar,
It is certainly possible to pass variables by reference; for example, if you go to <TestStand Directory>/Examples/Demo/C and open the computer.seq file, you can see one of the example sequences that uses CVI modules. If you click on one of these steps, you'll see that some of the parameters, such as the error information, is passed with pointers. This is a pass by reference.
To help narrow this down, it'd be good for us to figure out a few things about how the code is run. First, if you go to Configure > Adapters, select the CVI adapter and choose Configure, you can see options for this adapter. Do you have it configured to run in an external instance of CVI or as an in-process call?
Also, if you're wanting to see a change made in TestStand in your external code, this makes me think that you're wanting to run the code and then continue to execute your TestStand sequence while the code runs. How did you configure this behavior? For example, are you calling this code as a separate sequence in a new thread, or are you using another method to run this code while the sequence continues to run?
Finally, if we could see a screenshot of how you're configuring the parameters on the TestStand step, that might be helpful as well.

  • I am trying to debug HTBasic code modules while using Test Stand, how do I refresh the subs that have been loaded in memory?

I am writing an application for Test Stand, we are using modules previously written in HTBasic. Whenever I make a change to the code and try to re-run the program, it just runs the old version of the code. The only way to refresh the code is to close Test Stand down and restart it. Is there a way to flush the memory of modules?

    Hi,
I haven't used HTBasic with TestStand 2.0.x, but I'm assuming that you have the steps in the sequence set to unload when sequence file is closed (look under the step properties -> run options tab).
If you're still prototypeing, use the File->Unload all modules option. Have a look at page 4-3 in the user manual - it refers to .DLLs, but I'm assuming the HTBasic falls into the same methodology.
Altering the run options from it's default will affect the memory useage and speed of execution of the test sequence. Have a look at page 5-22 (page 158 in the .pdf) in the TestStand user manual - basically, if a code module is loaded into memory already, when the step gets to execute, the loading overhead is already done. If it stays in memory after this, then it's avail
able for next time (quicker second run 'cos it doesn't need to load again. However, the balanceing factor is the sequence is useing more memory at a time, by haveing the module ready.
My usual setting is to use Load dynamically, and Unload after sequence executes. I use this is only during development however, as this is not the most speed friendly, but a compromise so that if I don't call a step I don't load it, but if I do use a step, I'm sure it's free again when I need to modify the .dll modules I create. If you have a look on page 5-7 (143) of the user manual you can set the sequence file to effectively over-ride each step's load and unload settings - useful if you want to revert back again later. If you use this, you'll see that the top two run options for the step are greyed out, but if you set it back with the sequence file options, they do revert back to their original settings.
    Hope that helps (and works!!)

  • Test Stand Report Security

I am looking for ways to incorporate some level of security for Test Reports produced by Test Stand, such as making the text files read-only for example.  From what I can determine there is no in-built security options for Test Reports.  How would Test Stand then be used in a Part 11 compliant enviroment?

In order to change the ReadOnly attribute from TestStand, the file must be completed (closed).
We do some similar post processing of the Report File (HTML) by renaming it to prepend the number of errors in the file, but this does require that the Report File be completed and closed.  In order to accomplish this we use a "Main Test" sequence that lists all of the test subsequences to be run.  The Main Subsequence call step uses the "Run Sequence in a new execution" (created as a custom step).  Each test therefore generates it's own HTML report file.  Post Processing for that sequence from the "Main Test" then calls a step that renames the file.  You could do the same thing only to change the Attributes to Read Only.

  • How To Trigger Test Stand To Assign Step = Error

Hi everyone, I have a LabVIEW VI step in my sequence and I have an abort button the user can select to abort the user interface VI.  I want the "abort button" boolean to pass back to test stand that abort button = TRUE and I want the sequence step to be set to an "ERROR."  Is there a command to send to the Test Stand Engine to flag this step as an error?
    Thanks so much!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi
    Glad It was helpful.
There are two ways in which you could achive this..
    1. Use this expression: RunState.Engine.TerminateAll()
But be wary, this will terminate all the current excutions and the report indicates the status as "terminated"
    or
    2. Use this expression: RunState.Execution.Terminate()
    or
    3. You can add a Goto step (comes with teststand. You can find it under Flow Control section of the insertion palette) and select Cleanup as the destination step.
This way you can run some clean up steps before closing the execution. (eg, Shutting down any hardware, etc.,)

  • Test Stand: TestStand Engine Process

I'm looking into an application (written by someone else of course) which calls a "Test Stand Engine" to execute a test.
First thing is what is this "Test Stand Engine" ?
I have been using Test Stand GUI (Test Stand Sequence Editor) to execute such test cases in the past so I never knew what do they mean by Test Stand Engine.
The problem i'm looking into is simple.
They say that Test Stand Engine is being executed as part of a thread and my task is to make it execute in a process.
But I Can't find the actual call to test stand engine itself.
I'm on Windows box and all I can see in Task Manager => Process is TSAUTO~1.EXE which is same whether I run GUI or my application with Test Stand Engine.
What should I look for in my application code to find the "Test Stand Engine"?
    Any Help?
    Nirvana

    Hi,
just to clarify that - there's two approaches to making an operator interface with TestStand.
    1) Use the TestStand UI controls and manager controls or 2) Go directly to the TestStand Engine.
Option 1 actually overwraps the calls to the TestStand Engine anyway to make it easier to implement an operator interface. That's not to say that going directly to the TestStand Engine  ActiveX automation server is difficult, but you have to do certain things, like shutting down in a sepcific way.
Your best other resource is the TestStand help (rather than the bookshelf pdf's) and have a look at the topic about "Writing an application with the teststand engine"
As Dennis says - you might get more help on the TestStand forums rather than the LabVIEW ones though.
    Thanks

  • Test Stand 2010 Deployment tool Error

    Dear All,
Whilst attempting to deploy a Test Stand system I am coming across the following error:
Error: Unable to find all subVIs from saved VIs. Either a subVI is missing or the VI is not saved in the current LabVIEW version.
The call chain to missing VIs:
    1 - initialise_resistor_card.vi
        2 - pipx40 Initialize.vi (missing)
I have the Teststand Adaptor set to Labview Run-time Engine --> "Auto detect using VI version"
This is a new feature in Test Stand 2010 right? So is the deployment tool also able to inherit the ability to auto detect the version of runtime engine to use on a deployed machine?
    Any ideas?
    Regards
There is no problem with the VI within the sequence.
I've encountered this before before with the deployment tool and usually mass compilling or opening and closing the VIs heirarchy helps, but in this case I just can't get the deployemnt tool to process these VIs.

    Hello,
So it would appear that the VIs giving the problem are within .llb .
If I open and save them again within the .llb and mass compile the .llb then the same happens, but if I take the VI out of the llb then the problem goes away?
Is there any known issues with the Deployment Utility failing to find VIs with llbs? I notice TS 2010 deployment utility introduces the idea of a Packed Project library option rather than the old SupportVIs folder, could using this be the issue?
    Regards

  • Is there a way to create a database with Test Stand?

Anyone know of a way to have Test Stand create a database? My company standard MS Office suite is Microsoft Access 2010, and TestStand does not support the .accmdb extension type(format), so I have to create new databases using old formats. I'm worried about backwards compatability down the road since good ole Microsoft doesn't seem to care about legacy formats.
I'm still a beginner with databasing, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

TestStand 2012 SP1, and  we are using a modified Generic Recordset (NI). The problem we are having right now is that the Build SQL instructions are not creating the database tables the way we are configuring them from the "Statements" and "Column/Parameters" tabs under Database Options.
What is happening is when we validate the schema, and drop all schema tables, it empties all the database tables, but then when you build using the TestStand generated sql file, we get errors(shown below) we are not understanding, and we can no longer write to the database and LabVIEW throws a "Data type mismatch in criteria expression" error like this
    "Possible reason(s):
    ADO Error: 0x80040E07

  • How to bring a VI front panel to the front (of all open windows) when the parent VI calls a sub-VI in Test Stand.

In Test Stand when I call a sub-VI front panel, the pop-up window goes behind all the windows and the user just waits for the screen. I want the pop-up to come to the front so that the user can know what to do. I couldn't find any property that I can set which would make the called VI go to the front.

What version of TestStand are you using? Here are the TestStand palettes in LabVIEW for TestStand 2.0 and 3.1. You can also set a VI to be modal in  VI Properties>Window Appearance. Select Dialog or go to Cutomize and change the Window Behavior.
