Problem about type casting

Hello friends. I m getting some problem related to casting. I m working on web service testing software where my test tool file generates the contents of the web service which i entered runtime. iI can use java.lang.reflect . How do v get the class name of array? So that i can use the Classname.getDeclaredMethods();.
Please give me suggetion.

Maybe you are having problems because getDeclaredMethods() returns an empty array for array classes?import java.lang.reflect.Method;
public class ArrayMethods {
     static void dumpMethods(Class c) {
          System.out.println();
          Method[] ma;
          do {
               System.out.println(c.toString());
               ma = c.getDeclaredMethods();
               for(int i=0;i<ma.length;++i) {
                    System.out.println(ma.toString());
               c = c.getSuperclass();
          } while (ma.length==0);
     public static void main(String[] arg) throws Exception {
          dumpMethods(Integer.class);
          dumpMethods(int[].class);
          dumpMethods(Class.forName("[I"));
          dumpMethods(Class.forName("[[I"));
          dumpMethods(Class.forName("[Ljava.lang.Object;"));

  • Type casting in JAX-RPC

    Hello
    I was trying to do a JAX-RPC application, and I had some problems with type casting. My application worked fine with primitive types, vectors of primitive types, and beans with primitive type properties. But it didn't work with vectors of beans, or ArrayList's of beans... It couldn't deserialize the result on client side... Can anyone help?
    The Java Web Services Tutorial says that JAX-RPC supports beans and vectors, but I had the impression that this is not a "recursive" support, like "beans with vectors" or "vectors of beans"... Does it make sense?
    By the way, I was using a DII client...
    Thanks,
    Alexandre Murakami

    Hello!
    Thanks for the reply! I can't put the code of my application here (because it's quite big and it's from work)... But I followed the dii client example from the Web Services Tutorial...
    I'm trying to do a kind of a general client... The parameters are the URL of the service, the name of the operation, a list of parameters and the return type class.. And it takes the rest of the service information from the WSDL file... About the return type, I take the QName of the return type from the WSDL:
    <message>
    <part name="result" type="...">...
    then I call the call.setReturnType(QName, Class) method. The return type was an array of a very simple bean, something like:
    class Person {
    String name;
    int age;
    public String getName() {...}
    public void setName(...) {...}
    public int getAge() {...}
    public void setAge(...) {...}
    I don't know if the information I put here is enough... but anyway, thanks for the reply!

  • Help needed in data type casting

    I have a java program which will receive data and its type in the String format. During program execution, the data in the String data has to be converted into the respective data type and assigned to a variable of that data type so that it could be used in the program. Programmer may not know the type of data that the value has to be converted into.
    I really got struck up with this. This is a RMI application and one process node is sending the data to another node in the String format and the type of data it should get converted into so that it can be converted into the respective type and used for computation.
    Can you understand what I am asking for ....if you can pls help and it is highly appreciated

    I dont know whether i ahve expressed it correctly
    look at this code
    dataPacket sendtoNode = send.senDatatoNode(inputReq);
    String recnodnum = sendtoNode.nodeNum;
    String recvarnum = sendtoNode.varNum;
    String recvartype = sendtoNode.dataType;
    String recvalvalue     = sendtoNode.dataVal;
    int num;     int type;
    double result;
    // here in this case the result variable type is double

  • Type casting in OOPS ABAP

    Hi Team,
                 Could any one explain me about Type casting used in oops abap and in what circumstances it is
    used with an example.
    Regards,
    Pradeep P.

    Hi,
    Hi,
    Go to ABAPDOCU tcode and see example programs in abap objects section, you will find separate programs for upcasting and downcasting .
    Up-Cast (Widening Cast)
    Variables of the type reference to superclass can also refer to subclass instances at runtime.
    If you assign a subclass reference to a superclass reference, this ensures that
    all components that can be accessed syntactically after the cast assignment are
    actually available in the instance. The subclass always contains at least the same
    components as the superclass. After all, the name and the signature of redefined
    methods are identical.
    The user can therefore address the subclass instance in the same way as the
    superclass instance. However, he/she is restricted to using only the inherited
    components.
    In this example, after the assignment, the methods GET_MAKE, GET_COUNT,
    DISPLAY_ATTRIBUTES, SET_ATTRIBUTES and ESTIMATE_FUEL of the
    instance LCL_TRUCK can only be accessed using the reference R_VEHICLE.
    If there are any restrictions regarding visibility, they are left unchanged. It is not
    possible to access the specific components from the class LCL_TRUCK of the
    instance (GET_CARGO in the above example) using the reference R_VEHICLE.
    The view is thus usually narrowed (or at least unchanged). That is why we
    describe this type of assignment of reference variables as up-cast. There is a
    switch from a view of several components to a view of a few components. As
    the target variable can accept more dynamic types in comparison to the source
    variable, this assignment is also called Widening Cast
    Static and Dynamic Types of References
    A reference variable always has two types at runtime: static and dynamic.
    In the example, LCL_VEHICLE is the static type of the variable R_VEHICLE.
    Depending on the cast assignment, the dynamic type is either LCL_BUS or
    LCL_TRUCK. In the ABAP Debugger, the dynamic type is specified in the form
    of the following object display.
    Down-cast (Narrowing Cast)
    Variables of the type “reference to superclass” can also refer to subclass instances
    at runtime. You may now want to copy such a reference (back) to a suitable
    variable of the type “reference to subclass”.
    If you want to assign a superclass reference to a subclass reference, you must
    use the down-cast assignment operator MOVE ... ?TO ... or its short form
    ?=. Otherwise, you would get a message stating that it is not certain that all
    components that can be accessed syntactically after the cast assignment are
    actually available in the instance. As a rule, the subclass class contains more
    components than the superclass.
    After assigning this type of reference (back) to a subclass reference to the
    implementing class, clients are no longer limited to inherited components: In the
    example given here, all components of the LCL_TRUCK instance can be accessed
    (again) after the assignment using the reference R_TRUCK2.
    The view is thus usually widened (or at least unchanged). That is why we describe
    this type of assignment of reference variables as down-cast. There is a switch
    from a view of a few components to a view of more components. As the target
    variable can accept less dynamic types after the assignment, this assignment is
    also called Narrowing Cast
    Reward if helpfull,
    Naresh.

    Holger,
    Typecasting and 4.x conversion are 2 different things (well sorta)
    The way that LabVIEW stored booleans (in memory etc) was changed after
    version 4.x
    In ver4.x a bool was 16-bits Bit 15 low = FALSE, bit 15 high = TRUE
    Since ver5.0 bool is 8 bits, all 0's = FALSE, non-zero = TRUE.
    Typecasting is a more general concept, in that it converts from one data
    type
    to another. For example I can type cast a Boolean to a U8 (which is what the
    convert 4.x does). I wire a bool to the typecast, a constant to
    the "type"
    and a U8 indocator to the output. On my machine I get 0=FALSE and 256 =
    TRUE.
    you can use this for any datatypes that you wish.
    Check the knowlwdgebase on NIs site (search for 4.x data)

  • Type casting problem in the JSP

    Hi,
    I am type casting an Object variable to a interface Variable. I am not getting any error if i have the same code in the servlet but i am getting ClassCast Exception if i have the same code in the Scriplets part of the JSP.
    The code is as follows
    String strKey = " SomeString";
    Context context = new InitialContext();
    java.lang.Object obj = null;
         obj = context.lookup(strKey);
         ContentBroker objCB = null;
         objCB = (ContentBroker)obj; // Error is happening here
    ContentBroker is an inteface.
    I have included the jar files of ContentBroker in the classpath.
    Can anyone please tell me how to eliminate this error.?
    thanks in advance,
    Saravanan

    In that case it's a classloader issue.
    Since the object is bound in the context, I assume that you have made the class available to your server, and you have the class in WEB-INF/classes or in a jar inside WEB-INF/lib.
    Since they're being loaded by two different classloaders, the classes are seen as different by the JVM, thus the ClassCastException.
    Try removing the class from the web-app and let us know what happens.
    BTW. Which servlet container are you using?

  • Splitting and type casting huge string into arrays

    Hello,
    I'm developing an application which is supposed to read measurement files. Files contain I16 and SGL data which is type casted into string. I16 data is data from analog input and SGL is from CAN-bus data in channel form. CAN and analog data is recorded using same scan rate.
    For example, if we have 6 analog channels and 2 CAN channels string will be (A represents analog and C represents CAN):
    A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 C1 C2 A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 C1 C2 A1 A2 .... and so on
    Anyway, I have problems reading this data fast enough into arrays. Most obvious solution to me was to use shift registers and split string in for loop. I created a for loop with two inner for loops. Number of scans to read from string is wired to N terminal of the outermost loop. Shift register is initialized with string read from file.
    First of the inner loops reads analog input data. Number of analog channels is wired to its N terminal. It's using split string to read 2 bytes at a time and then type casts data to I16. Rest of the string is wired to shift register. When every I16 channel from scan is read, rest of the string is passed to shift register of the second for loop.
    Second loop is for reading CAN channels. It's similar to first loop except data is read 4 bytes at a time and type casted to SGL. When every CAN channel from scan is read, rest of the string is passed to shift register of the outermost loop. Outputs of type cast functions are tunneled out of loops to produce 2D arrays.
    This way reading about 500 KB of data can take for example tens of seconds depending on PC and number of channels. That's way too long as we want to read several megabytes at a time.
    I created also an example with one inner loop and all data is type casted to I16. That is extremely fast when compared to two inner loops!
    Then I also made a test with two inner loops where I replaced shift register and split string with string subset. That's also faster than two inner loops + shift register, but still not fast enough. Any improvement ideas are highly appreciated. Shift register example attached (LV 7.1)
    Thanks in advance,

    OK, there is clearly room for improvement. I did some timing and my two above suggestions are already about 100x faster than yours. A few teeaks led to a version that is now over 500x faster than the original code.
    A few timings on my rather slow computer (1GHz PIII Laptop) are shown on the front panel. For example with 10000 scans (~160kB data as 6+2) my new fastest version (Reshape II) takes 14 ms versus the original 7200ms! It can do 100000 scans (1.6MB data) in under 200 ms and 1000000 scans (15MB data) in under 2 seconds.
    I am sure the code could be further improved. I recommend the Reshape II algoritm. It is fastest and can deal with variable channel counts. Modify as needed.
    Attached is a LabVIEW 7.1 version of the benchmarking code, containing all algorithms. I have verified that all algorithms produce the same result (with the limitation that the cluster version only works for 6*I16+2*SGL data, of course). Remember that the reshape function is extremely efficient, because it does not move the data in memory. I have some ideas for further improvements, but this should get you going.

  • Dynamic Type casting

    Can we dynamically type-cast an object reference passed to Object Clss to that specific class?
    Here is what I want to do.
    I am going to pass an object reference to a method, which has Object class as parameter to it, as shown below. Using getClass() or some other way, I want to dynamically typecast this reference to the original Class and call some method of this Class.
    void test (Object ref1){
    ((ref1.getClass())ref1).writeLog();
    By doing this, am I violating the basic Object Orineted rules?

    I mean, consider an hypothetical case (which is wrong
    from OO point of view) that there are suppose 10
    classes in my system. None of them related to each
    other, all are independent classes. But each one has a
    method called, writeLog(). Now I want to write one
    method which will be called by each of these classes
    (in some 11th class), which will have "Object" as a
    parameter. Now using the actual reference I want to
    call the corresponding writeLog() method.
    1 - Point out to management that the design is now officially broken.
    2 - Point out that if the design is not fixed then any solution that impliments the changes will cost more to maintain in the future and will likely lead to instabilities in the system (due to complexity.)
    3 - Implement one of the suggested solutions and make sure that you put in a lot of error checking and logging in the hacked solution.
    4 - Produce extensive documentation about the impact of changing any of the objects that you are relying on. Push it to anyone and everyone that might ever touch or even suggest changes to the code.
    Doing all of the above allows you to live stress free when the next revision breaks because someone didn't understand the implications of your hacked solution. You will be able to find the problem quickly and point out that it had nothing to do with your code but rather because someone else did not follow the complete documentation that you produced. And then when they complain that your solution was a hack you can point out that you explained that previously as well.

  • Why do we require Type Casting?

    Hi,
    In short can you guys share your experience and
    nd expalin me why and when do we require type casting
    of objetcs.I would appericiate if i get a simple
    application as an example.
    regards
    VickyWhy do you need this again?
    Well, really you need type casting because you want to be able to check for errors at compile time. You actually don't need any type casting if you just wait to link all your code at runtime.
    Normally your function calls are checked vs the real 'type' at compile time to see if you are calling the function with the proper types and number of arguments. same with returning. However, you don't have to do this, just look at any scripting language. All that is checked at runtime.
    Problems with not checking at compile time are mostly speed and corectness errors. The runtime might decide to call a different function then the one you wanted because at runtime a 'better' one was found. Of course now you would get a link error at runtime and the code would just not execute. There would be problems with overriding and hiding of functions, etc.
    Also, since you can't link ahead of time it takes longer to execute functions since you have to find them everytime they are called.
    The advantage is that you can be lazy about typing.
    Typecasting primitaves are a whole other problem. I'm not even going to go into that, but check out scripting languages for examples of autocasting primitives.

  • Design problem about repreatable entity relationships

    Hi all!
    As I design the data model (let's name it the ERD, no matter the name is quite unfashonable), I have found almost identical structures of entities and relationships between them, but playing completely different roles in the semantics of the model.
    It obviously makes no sense to implement all such entities separately as the Entity EJB as they are to share most of the fields and methods, but I found no "handsome" solution when trying to implement them as sets of classes and interfaces forming "the abstract EJBs", and then by putting the conrete classes and complementary interfaces at the final packages to create "concrete EJBs". The problem was about types returned by the createXXX and findXXX methods, because they had to return the "abstract" EJBs but the EJB programming contract forces them to return the "concrete" ones, that are unknown to me when defining the "abstract ones". So it cancels the sense for creating them this way. It was also unclear how to operate the relationships in such model.
    The idea was:
    1. I define BaseSthLocalHome extends EJBLocalHome
    2. I define BaseSthLocal extends EJBLocalObject
    3. I define BaseSthBean implements EntityBean
    ... this way I have the "abstract bean", and then I can create many:
    SthOneLocalHome extends BaseSthLocalHome,
    SthOneLocal extends BaseSthLocal,
    SthOneBean extends BaseSthBean ... to have the first "concrete" EJB,
    SthTwoLocalHome extends BaseSthLocalHome... and so on to create the second, third and all the next "concrete" EJBs.
    Anyway, it did not work fine as I defined createXXX and findXXX methods at the BaseSthLocalHome interface - it made sense, because those methods did not depend on the other entities.
    Has anyone some idea of how to solve the design problem? Currently we are at very beginning of the project, so we have some "case study" time, and I would appreciate any solution: redesign of the data model, extraction of new EJB modules or any use of the objective inheritance.
    Thanks in advance!
    Marcin Gawlik

    Again me - I now it is a bad idea to reply for own messages, but I have just checked a new idea:
    The problem was about re-using the same components in different roles. I tried to do that by creating subclasses of the EJB classes, but it did not work. So I tried to define multiple entity EJBs that have the same class.
    Considering the given example, it would look:
    1. public interface BaseSthLocalHome extends EJBLocalHome
    2. public interface BaseSthLocal extends EJBLocalObject
    3. public abstract class BaseSthBean implements EntityBean
    ... then I created the deployment descriptor that deploys this pack of class and interfaces as three separate CMP Entity Beans:
    1. deploy BaseSthBean as the SthOne CMP entity EJB
    2. deploy BaseSthBean as the SthTwo CMP entity EJB
    3. ... and so one
    The question is: IS THERE ANY CONTRA FOR THIS WAY OF DEPLOYING EJBS? Is there any reason for not to use the same class and its complementary interfaces many times to create many separate enity EJBs working within the same EJB module?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Is it possible to make a type cast in TestStand?

    I've got the following problem.
    I use a receive function which waits for an undefined package. (struct package).
    The problem is i can't specify the module with the exaxt package.
    Generally in C i define a Pointer and create enough buffer for it. Is it the same in TestStand?
    Is it possible to make a type cast?
    for example:
    i've got these packages
    struct packet;
    struct  data;
    the function does not know which structure to receive.
    err = receive(buffer,maxlen);
    how do i specify the buffer variable?
    can i create a type "void" with a String to have enough buffer.
    and then to make a type cast, for example "Locals.dataobject = ((data)Locals.buffer)"
    any ideas?
    thx for help

    Unfortunately there is no way to do type-casts in TestStand. What you could do is write a wrapper-dll in C, that has for example two parameters for both possible structs. The dll then takes one of the parameters, does the typecast and passes it on to your original dll.
    From TestStand you can pass the struct(or better container in the "TestStand language") you want to use to the accoridng parameter of the wrapper-dll, leaving the other parameter empty or with some default-value.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problem about sales order stock stock transfer and batch determination

    Hi, experts, I get a problem about sales order stock stock transfer and batch determination.The following is the current situation of my system:
      In OMCG I assigned search procedure ME0001 to both 311 and 311 E and ticked check batch. After that, I found  that if iI need to tranfer unrestricted-use material from storage location 1000 to 2000 with movement type 311, I just need to input * at the field batch, then the system will display all of the available batches. But for the transferring of sales order stock with movement type 311 E, after I input * at the batch field, no batch is displayed and there is also no message from the system.
      Can anybody help me? Is there anything else I need to do? Thanks very much.

    I think my question is not clear, actually I tried 562 E , 411 E and 413 already. all the transaction looking for the sales order but unfortunatly the sales order is deleted  from SAP.

  • Problem about space management of archived log files

    Dear friends,
    I have a problem about space management of archived log files.
    my database is Oracle 10g release 1 running in archivelog mode. I use OEM(web based) to config all the backup and recovery settings.
    I config "Flash Recovery Area" to do backup and recovery automatically. my daily backup schedule is every night at 2:00am. and my backup setting is "disk settings"--"compressed backup set". the following is the RMAN script:
    Daily Script:
    run {
    allocate channel oem_disk_backup device type disk;
    recover copy of database with tag 'ORA$OEM_LEVEL_0';
    backup incremental level 1 cumulative copies=1 for recover of copy with tag 'ORA$OEM_LEVEL_0' database;
    the retention policy is the second choice, that is "Retain backups that are necessary for a recovery to any time within the specified number of days (point-in-time recovery)". the recovery window is 1 day.
    I assign enough space for flash recovery area. my database size is about 2G. I assign 20G as flash recovery area.
    now here is the problem, through oracle online manual, it said oracle can manage the flash recovery area automatically, that is, when the space is full, it can delete the obsolete archived log files. but in fact, it never works! whenever the space is full, the database will hang up! besides, the status of archived log files is very strange, for example, it can change "obsolete" stauts from "yes" to "no", and then from "no" to "yes". I really have no idea about this! even though I know oracle usually keep archived files for some longer days than retention policy, but I really don't know why the obsolete status can change automatically. although I can write a schedule job to delete obsolete archived files every day, but I just want to know the reason. my goal is to backup all the files on disk and let oracle automatically manage them.
    also, there is another problem about archive mode. I have two oracle 10g databases(release one), the size of db1 is more than 20G, the size of db2 is about 2G. both of them have the same backup and recovery policy, except I assign more flash recovery area for db1. both of them are on archive mode. both of nearly nobody access except for the schedule backup job and sometime I will admin through oem. the strange thing is that the number of archived log files of smaller database, db2, are much bigger than ones of bigger database. also the same situation for the size of the flashback logs for point-in-time recovery. (I enable flashback logging for fast database point-in-time recovery, the flashback retention time is 24 hours.) I found the memory utility of smaller database is higher than bigger database. nearly all the time the smaller database's memory utility keeps more than 99%. while the bigger one's memory utility keeps about 97%. (I enable "Automatic Shared Memory Management" on both databases.) but both database's cup and queue are very low. I'm nearly sure no one hack the databases. so I really have no idea why the same backup and recovery policy will result so different result, especially the smaller one produces more redo logs than bigger one. does there anyone happen to know the reason or how should I do to check the reason?
    by the way, I found web based OEM can't reflect the correct database status when the database shutdown abnormally. for example, if the database hang up because of out of flash recovery area, after I assign more flash recovery area space and then restart the database, the OEM usually can't reflect the correct database status. I must restart OEM manually to correctly reflect the current database status. does there anyone know in what situation I should restart OEM to reflect the correct database status?
    sorry for the long message, I just want to describe in details to easy diagnosis.
    any hint will be greatly appreciated!

    thank you very much, in fact, my site's oracle never works about managing archive files automatically although I have tried all my best. at last, I made a job running daily to check the archive files and delete them.
    thanks again.

  • A switch on/off problem about the relay in a loop

    hi group:
    I am developing a project based the Ni-sci-1160. Now I meet a problem about switch on/off in a loop.
    for example:  I creat a loop, and continually check a boolean. if the boolean is true, then the realy is closed, otherwise the relay is open. The problem is when I make the boolean is true,  the corresponding relay is not always on,  but just on-off, on-off,on-off.  I don't know why? Is there any good idea to fix it?
    the easy example codes is attached here , thanks for you help.

    Try moving that first DAQmx function out of the while loop.  Since it is called switch set and Reset, I'm guessing it is resetting the status of the switch every iteration of the while loop which probably means setting it back to false.  It looks like an initialization type of function which means it should only be run once.
