Problem adding disk to disk set

Hi all!
i'm experiencing the following problem. i've created diskset with command:
metaset -s ora-ds -a -h hostname1 hostname2
then i'm trying to add disk to disk set:
metaset -s ora-ds -a /dev/did/rdsk/d4
but getting the following:
Aug 22 15:56:26 srv06r1 rpc.metad: Abort
metaset: srv06r1: metad drive used: RPC: Unable to receive
scdidadm shows:

I think it is fully patched; the storage is fully maintained by Sun and the patches of our systems are as well.
The thing is that there are three (identical) systems in a cluster, and every once in a while one of them (varying) shows such a strange behavior.
Most of the time a reboot solves it, but that's something I don't really want to do.
Right now I'm checking the rpc-meta-daemons...
I'm missing one: /usr/sbin/rpc.metad
I'll restart the service...
Hmm, nothing happens.
I've started the process rpc.metad by hand, but still the same message appears and then rpc.metad disappears again.
I'm lost; may have to reboot after all...

  • Problem creating disk set - sc_rval = 2

I've been having a lot of problems geting Solaris Volume Manager installed with our cluster. We had some single disk filesystems setup, and while cleaning them up, I accidentally erased the /global/.devices/node@<number> entries from /etc/vfstab on both nodes (oops!)
Anyway, I almost had a filesystem working on the volume manager volume before, but ran into issues. Sun Partner Advantage ISV support said I needed to delete everything and start over. the metaclear and metaset -d commands didn't work, so I used metadb -d to delete the state replicas on both nodes and start over.
I've recreated the state database replica on both nodes and followed the instructions in Appendix A of the Sun Cluster 3.1 guide (May 2003 Rev A) page 148, 149.
    I rebooted both machines
I ran devfsadm on all nodes
I ran scgdevs on the first node and waited for it to complete on the second.
    I'm stuck on this line:
    $ metaset -s clus01 -a -h sole1 sole2
    sc_rval = 2
metaset: sole1: setname "clus01": no such set
I'm not sure what to do now.
The state database replicas exist on both nodes:
    root@sole1:~ >metadb
    flags first blk block count
    a m pc luo 16 8192 /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s6
    root@sole2:~ >metadb
    flags first blk block count
    a m pc luo 16 8192 /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s6

The problem is that when you created the metaset the first time, information about it was stored in the Cluster Configuration Repository (CCR) and not just in the replica information. Look in /etc/cluster/ccr and grep for you set name in the files there.
What I seem to remember you need to do is to use the following command:
    metaset -s clus01 -C purge
See man metaset for more information. This should remove it from the CCR and the cluster. You should then be able to re-add it.
Doh! just actually read the manual page and it doesn't interact with the CCR. You may have to get hold of the Sun Cluster Diagnostic Toolkit which should have been installed by Sun when they built the cluster. This has a program to fix these sort of issues. I think it is dcs_config - I'll have to go and check and post again.

    Hi,
when looking at the output I can deduct the following:
=> You use ASM with normal redundancy
=> This actually requires at least 2 failgroups
=> One Failgroup got lost (thats where all the "Dropped" Disk are coming from).
So before beeing able to add more diskspace (to an existing running failgroup) you have to correct the error, that ASM can have normal redundancy again.
Before that ASM will not allow you to extend the failgroup.
    Regards
    Sebastian

  • I'm having problems installing disk 2 of oracle 9iAS linux edition

I'm having problems installing disk 2 of oracle 9ias linux edition is thier anyone else having this same problem

Is it original media? The first installation disk set i received from oracle had a bad disk 2. Once I received the new set, everything was fine. You may have bad media as well.

  • Recovery disk set nightmare

Dear Lenovo, I recently worked on one of your H520 desktop PC’s for a friend. The hard drive died and I had to replace it. Initially I tried the USB recovery drive I had made on the system prior but without the recovery partition on the drive (original drive failed) it could not restore the pc.
So I found out I could order a Recovery disk set via you’re tech support service (I wanted to get back the recovery partition and reset the pc to the factory install). I called and placed the order for the disk set and I thought it would work no problem for this PC just like any other companies I have worked with in the past like Acer or hp etc.
In the mail, I got the 6 disk set but I was still waiting for a new a 1TB replacement hard drive. So I plugged in a 500gb drive I had as a spare to test the install. It loaded all 6 disks and prompted me to reboot. After that a new screen, the WINPE environment appeared then shortly after another reboot. Eventually I saw a screen with a BSOD type message “your pc ran into a problem and needs to reboot” asking me if I wanted to send to Microsoft or not. In the end all I ever got to was the login screen for windows 8 but with a error box saying the following:
Install windows Windows could not complete the instillation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation.
This box had a button that when clicked just reboots the pc , creating a loop.
Upon greater investigation on my part I was able to read some of the dos boxes that run while in the winpe environment and there were errors in bold that read as follows: THIS SYSTEM UNCONTROLLED REBOOT DURING WINPE PRELOAD FAILED
And a few lines of things like: Could not find c:\swwork\reboot.tab Could not find c:\swwork\PEboot.tag
I called support, got a case # and during the first call I was instructed that the replacement hard drive had to be the same size as the original or the image would not work. Reluctantly I politely complied and when I got the 1tb drive new in the mail I installed it and tried again. Like I suspected, nothing changed and the system did the exact same thing after the install.
I called again, this time they said it could be the disk set and sent me another one. When I received it I tried again, and it did the same exact thing.
3rd call, the next tech I spoke to told me the hard drive had to be the Exact same model that was in the pc. I had access to the dead drive and looked up the model # I reluctantly ordered the exact same model new on Amazon but in my mind I really felt this was not the cause, yet I followed your instructions. When I got the new drive I tried again but the disk set did the exact same thing.
4th call Tech support told me it was the disk set and the person I spoke to took notes on all the errors I was seeing and he told me I would get a new disk set again but with modifications by the software team to work on this h520. I got a new set of disks and they appeared to be the same exact ones I was sent prior. I ran them and the set did the exact same thing.
The last call to tech support they had no solutions to fix this and I asked for a refund since the recovery set was faulty and it never installed correctly. I was given an new case # and told I would get a call from CR customer relations. When I got the call I was informed that I would not get any form of a refund.
In the end I wound up having to buy a oem license of windows which installed perfectly on the machine. This rules out a hardware issue. Nothing other than the hard drive was changed in the system. I tried all possible bios settings thinking it may be related to that but nothing ever corrected the software errors. When I spoke with tech support I gave them all the info from the pc’s label so they should know what system and any details to what hard ware was in the machine.
I now have to recoup the costs of your 69 dollar recovery set that never worked as well as the extra cost of buying two replacement hard drives due to your tech support team. The owner of the pc had to wait for almost a month due to all the waiting for things to get mailed out etc. Other companies also don’t charge as much as you for a recover set, Acer for example is 19.
When I ordered the recovery disk set, no one informed me that the replacement drive had to be the same size and model. Even though that was not the cause of the problem I did ask how do you support those users upgrading to a SSD which is typically smaller than the original drive and was told those customers are out of luck and have to buy windows again.
I’m at a loss that you can charge for faulty software that doesn’t work. Where the user has to pay upfront and there is no guarantee it will work. I don’t believe I’m the only person in the world who has encountered this issue with your recovery disk set and I can’t imagine how you don’t see how bad this affects your company.
Lenovo, this is unacceptable. I have worked on many pc’s and never have I seen a recovery disk set go this wrong.
P.S. My name shows "whats DOS?" I know quite well how to use DOS, grew up with DOS 6.22 thank you very much.

  • Clean Reinstall of Windows 8 from Lenovo Recovery Disk Set Fails

Hello everyone, I am at a loss here. I have Lenovo H520s SFF Desktop and the hard drive failed, under warranty.  Lenovo sent a service tech to my home to replace Hard Drive and Reinstall Windows 8. The service tech started the reinstallation and left, told me to follow the prompts on the screen when prompted.  Well the installation failed.  I called Lenovo, they sent the same tech again and this time he replaced the motherboard too... During the days for this to occur, Lenovo sent me 3 recovery disk sets for installation of Windows 8.  - The install starts, and goes through but does not ever finish. I have tried all 3 recover disks sets and get the same problem. After calling Lenovo again, I was told it was a setting in the BIOS that needed to be changed, but the technician and the supervisor I spoke with could not advise me which settings to change because they were not reading the same BIOS I was when they were trying to walk me through it.  All I want is to reinstall Windows 8 on my Lenovo.  I have sent requests for BIOS updates to make installation easier, but honestly, they had to get it installed on the original hard drive in the first place, how is this so difficult now to reinstall Windows 8 on a clean hard drive.  Any advice will help....

    hi tangatangs,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
From your observation, it looks like there's a problem with the recovery discs. To check, we're there any error messages when the recovery process failed (eg. Recovery process fails at disc #3 with an error preMOPS fail)?
    Things that you can try:
1, Download the Windows 8 Enterprise ISO 90 day trial (you will need a microsoft account to get the download link and trial key).
    2. Follow this guide on how to create a bootable Windows 8 installer (either via a disc or USB)
    3. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F1 and set the following settings (if applicable):
    Boot/Startup Tab:
    UEFI = Disabled
    UEFI Boot = Legacy First
    CSM = Enabled
    Security Tab
    Secure Boot = Disabled
    Exit Tab
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS / Disabled
When done, insert the bootable Windows 8 installer that you have created on Step 2 and press F10 to save and exit. When the machine reboots, press F12 and select the appropriate device for the Windows 8 instaler (either via DVD or USB).
If the Windows 8 Enteprise (90 day trial) installs properly then you may need to contact lenovo one more time on how to go about getting the unit serviced (you most likely need to send the unit to the repair center for re-imaging as another copy of a recovery disc set may produce the same installation problem).
    EDIT:
I've sent you a PM regarding information on your machine. Please check it out.
Let me know how it goes.
    Regards

  • New added disk in vm virtual box not shown in solaris

    hi,
I have added new disk in VM virtual box to use it for asm, using storage tree in Vm virtual box i have added two new disks but after that when i start my OS (solaris 10) and use format command it only shows my one disk not the added disk which i add in storage. Any idea why the new added disks are not shown .
    Thanks
    Zeeshan

Navigate to the repository tab in OVMM and right-click on the storage repo, where you created/copied the vm disk image file. From the pop-up menu choose refresh repository.
That should scan you repository and make the new disk visible on OVMM.

Mac Mini 2.4GHz Dual Core,  8Gb Ram 1067MHz, hard disk 320Gb, with Mac OS X 10.8.4:
Starts at start without any problem or disk permissions, i did the search for errors in the system for the disk utility application and did not get any, usually 5 times I turn on the computer one is safe boot time, which is still not the problem, thanks for your help.

    Hello,
Do you mean it fails to start up completely?
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • Workflow and scratch disk setting

To improve the speed on editing and rendering, what would be the best workflow and scratch disk setting for follows?!
    1) video files create by Canon 5D mark II on CF card
    2) Video files create by JVC HM700 (in HD, .mov format)
Above 2 formats I usually work with FCP on follow hardware ,
    iMac 3.4G i7
    8G RAM
    Primary drive, 256G SSD
    Secondary, 1T harddrive
For each project, video material most likely around 120G.
    i) What would be the best setting for the scratch disk in order to boot the speed on editing and rendering?!
II) to save up the disk space on SSD, should I set the video storage on the 1T harddrive and the video n audio rending path to the SSD?!
iii) anything setting should I care while transfer both video format to FCP for a better speed for editing n rendering?
    Pls advice!

don't put ANY media on your startup drive-- that would include renders.  I'm guessing this is an imac with the ssd and a 1TB?  what I do is have one drive for media, one for renders and a third for exports.  That lightens the load considerably on any one drive at a time and arguably gives marginally faster throughput.
1TB seems like a lot, but these days it really isn't.  I've got 10tb hooked up to my machine, with 3 x 1TB ready to drop into a drive dock for archives-- and I'm always out of room.
You've got to pay attention to the codec your cameras shoot in.  Dunno about the JVE, but it's likely an h.264 variant of mpeg4-- do NOT try to edit with this.  convert all your footage to prores LT or prores.  HQ is definitely overkill.

I have a problem with disk utility that is not on my mac pro

Open your Applications folder then open the Utilities folder. It should be there.
If not, click the magnifying glass icon top right corner of your screen. That's Spotlight.
    Type:   Disk Utility
    Hopefully it will show up.

  • Seeking complete install/restore disk set

Help! I am looking for a complete install/restore disk set for my iMac PPC G5. Please advise where I might be able to get my grubby hands on a set. Would be interested in either copies or the originals (preferred).
Called the local Apple reseller and they didn't even know what I was talking about. EBay's no help either.
    Any suggestions?

Called 'em. Said they were no longer available but was willing to sell me the OS cds similar to the original ones that came with the iMac G5, i.e., 10.1.3 and 9.2.2. A "mere" $46.00 US.
Moral: Don't lose (or miss place) the disk set that came with the computer.
Thanks for the phone number and lead.

  • Yoga 2 Pro Recovery Disk Set

Ok I've corrupted my back up partition installing one of the earlier Windows 10 beta versions... I've received the Lenovo Disk Set but the Yoga Pro 2 doesn't have a CD Disk Drive. Does anyone else see the disconnect???

Try creating a bootable USB media, and then copy all the files from the DVD to the USB disk. Then boot from it. I hope you know how to do it. If not, try searching the internet for "create a uefi bootable disk".

  • Optimal Scratch Disk Setting for Notebook/Macbook Pro Users

After doing a ton of research, I came across THIS guidline for different scratch disk setups but I am still not sure what would be the best setup for me.
Here is what I am working with for my Current Projects Work Station
2011 i7 Macbook Pro with SSD as my main drive and 750GB 5400rpm HD in the optical bay.
OWC Elite Mini and Dual Mini in Raid0 for Media Storage. Both 7200rpm Drives
Currently I have my scratch disk set to the following:
SSD: Startup drive, OS, Programs, Project Files and Exports
750GB HD: Partitioned - 250GB to Backup SSD and 500GB for Photo storage and PP Scratch Disk Video, Audio and Previews
OWC Minis: Media Storage for Current Projects
My question is, what can I do to optimize my premiere pro settings?
Should I move my scratch disk to my external HD since its a faster drive?

I have a very similar setup but am using a couple pieces of new gear. Wondering if Harm or any of the rest of you have any advice.

I have various LaCie drives that contain projects, media, exports connected via LaCie Tbolt esata adapter. So these are drives I've had for years that are now running at 3G esata speeds.
I'm not using the 2nd internal drive for anything since it is 5400rpm. I just use it for backups, photo, music storage.
So I ususally work small projects with the projects, media, exports, renders all pointing back to the esata connected external LaCies.
Should I point media cache to the 500GB SSD my internal c drive? The answer to this is still confusing since I've read many conflicting posts in various places.
Any other suggestions for now with this setup? (External Tbolt connected raid not yet in my budget.)
