Problem:  Apps won't open, Music, Movies iPod contents dissappear

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
The other day, I just turned off my phone and turned it back on. Then all my downloaded apps stopped working. I would try to open and they would begin to open only to go back to my iPhone screen.
Then I noticed all iPod contents (Movies, music, Audiobooks) were gone. I ended up restoring my phone which worked temporarily.
It happened again yesterday. Had to restore again.
It happened again just now. Can't restore right now.
I have many applications 40+. I guess it could be one of those causing it but I'm also thinking it might be a hardware issue.
Anyone else have this or a similar problem?
Thanks!

Does your apps work? I'm guessing they don't.
Just uninstall all your apps through iTunes. It will take forever but once its done, check your music. If its still missing, power off your phone and power it on.
The music should return. If it didn't, you might have to restore it. You can contact Apple if you like.
Then go through and install the apps you want one at a time. Don't go too much over 20. If you install too many, you will have the problem again and you'll have to repeat the steps above.
Hopefully the next update will fix the problem. I think I read some places where downgrading to iTunes 7.7 fixed their issue but I didn't go through all that.

  • My apps won't open On my Ipod Touch 4?

I Had to update some apps so i did update all 13 apps. then i tried to download 1 app called real soccer 12. it said that there wasnt enough room on the ipod for the app so i pluged it into the computer and opened the My computer and clicked on my ipod. i copyed all my pictures to my computer and deleted the photos from the ipod so i would have enough memory for the app. then i decided not to download the app. so i clicked 1 of my game apps and it wouldn't open. it would pop up and then go to the home screen. that happened with all my apps. i tried syncing with itunes (i never authorize the apps) and the i thought maybe it's because i never authorize the apps so inwaited for it to pop up but it didn't. i tried restaring my ipod several times but nothing is working.

Double click the home button and hold on one of the apps, and a little do not enter sigh looking thing will appear, and click them till all the apps disappear. Then hold the lock button down till it asks to shut down, and shut it down. Turn it back on and try it. This gives the iPod a brake and lets it do more.

  • Dock problem: Apps won't open, they bounce once and don't open.

    hi,
my ex-girlfriend has had problems with opening up some of her programs (Mail, Safari, iChat, iTunes, Msn-Messenger, Skype) on the dock. They bounce on the dock once and then don't open at all. She said that it just happened after a recent update (17/9/08).
I've been trying Disk Utility and this comes up with:
    +_First Aid Failed_.+
+Disk Utility stopped verifying 'Macintosh HD' because the following error was encountered:+
+The underlying task reported failure on exit+
Underneath it says: 1 HFS volume checked, Volume needs repair.
I have also used Disk Warrior and that also came up with the same error that this person got (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1459800&tstart=4).
I've even tried using fsck but that wasn't successful. I think I might need to work from disk utility from the start-up disks but was wodnering would I ahve to first back-up all the stuff that she has on her laptop at the moment???

I compiled what I could find on the application bouncing once problem.
I made it for Safari but much of it may apply to other Applications.
    - Create a new user account on your machine.
    - Log in under that new user account.
    - Try to launch Safari.
If Safari launches under the new user account,
Then it's likely a preference file or some Safari add-on (e.g. "Application Enhancers" PithHelmet or Saft) running under the original account that's preventing it from launching. Remove them, if possible and clear the cache.
If Safari does not start under the new user account the same way it doesn't under your original account,
Deletion and reinstallation will be needed:
    1) Back up your bookmarks to a safe location. Your Safari bookmarks are in Your Home/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist. Copy the Bookmarks.plish file to a flash drive, or somewhere safe.
    2) Download Safari from http://www.apple.com/safari/download/ and save it where you saved your bookmarks backup.
    3) Download an application deletion software, such as AppCleaner or AppZapper. A simple Google search will provide you with download locations.
    4) Once you have installed the application deletion software, run it to delete Safari. The application should find and delete all files related to your Safari install. This is why it is important to save your safari download package and your bookmarks backup to a flash drive off of your system. If you did not do this, make sure to uncheck these files from the deletion list.
    5) Restart your computer and install Safari once again. Once you have installed it, you should copy your bookmarks file to the new Safari's location. It will be located at "Your Home/Library/Safari/". If their is already a Bookmarks.plist in the Safari folder, then replace it with the backup.
If deletion and reinstallation doesn't help,
    Perform networking diagnostics.

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Purchase/install any new app

  • My IPod apps won't open. So I looked it up, and it said to sync the apps to itunes, i tried this, but when i try to sync, the apps won't show up on Itunes. It keeps saying "0 apps". What do i do?

Ever since yesterday, my Ipod apps won't open properly. I googled it, and couldn't find anything accurate. So i deleted all of the apps, and re-downloaded them. Now they're doing it again. When i tap on it, it looks like it wants to open, but then it goes back to the main menu. I googled it again, and got an answer saying to go to Itunes, uncheck the "sync apps" box, and sync. Then after that, recheck the box, and sync again. Many people said this worked, but it didn't for me. Also whenI go to sync my apps, they don't show up in Itunes. How do I get them to show up in Itunes?

I had the same issue. After searching around online I found out that you can try downloading another app (it can be any app) onto your ipod. After it finishes downloading see if your other apps open. You don't even have to keep the new app. Just see if your other ones work and you can delete the new one. That should work. If not, try to hard reset it. Here is another apple support link for steps on hard reseting it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430).

  • Store button on music app won't open?  Any suggestions?

Store button on music app won't open?  Any suggestions?

    This is what I did:
1a. Podcasts app deleted from the iPhone.  Doesn't show on any of the home screens on the iPhone.  The button next to the Podcasts app in iTunes says "Install".  Synching the iPhone with iTunes generates the message "The Podcasts app is not installed on 'Maggie's iPhone 4', so you will not be able to play podcasts on your iPhone"
1b. Clicked the "Install" button for the Podcasts app in iTunes.  It now displays "Will Install"
1c. Clicked "Apply" in iTunes to start iPhone sync.  iTunes shows "Copying 1 of 1: Podcasts"
1d. Podcasts app icon is shown correctly on one of the iPhone home screens.  Previously, the Podcast app icon was a generic placeholder icon.
1e. Resyched iPhone and launched Podcasts app.  Everything now working properly.
2 & 3. Didn't have to perform these steps, which implies that earlier suggestions contributed to the fix.
    Thanks for your help!

In the middle of downloading an update for garage band and lost the connection, now the app won't open or finish the download.  Can I reinstall the app without losing my music?

The obvious way to resolve this on a computer would be to uninstall the app, then reinstall it, however on an iOS device that would cause all the data assoicated with the app to be thrown away.
Make sure your iTunes library has the latest updates for all your apps, then backup and restore the device. This should pull back a fresh copy of the app from your iTunes library and then give it the data from your device backup.

All my purchased apps won't open even if I tried turning off and turning back my iPhone on (3 times). Need help, please.... Thanks!

Are you, or have you ever been jail broken? If you were, and installed apps from installous, they wont work without app sync installed. You need to be jail broken to install that, and I see you're on 4.3.2, for which there is no jailbreak yet. If you werent jail broken, however, follow the above posters advice and restore in iTunes.

  • Apps won't open, restored, 2days later same trouble. Did I buy a lemon, only one week old

Downloaded apps will not open, preinstalled do. iPod less than a week old. Have updated. Restored 2days ago for same problem. Now same problem. Also FaceTime will not work. Please help. Did I get a lemon?

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.
There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.

  • Mail app won't open

Mail app won't open from icon -- any ideas

    Hello,
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

  • Iphone 4S apps won't open/run

Hi my phone has recently developed a problem where some of the apps won't open or run properly.
facebook for example even the appstore, when I open them I just get a 'loading' icon and nothing else.
Do I have to restore my phone to it's original settings? I really don't want to lose all my text messages etc.
    many thanks in advance.

If it's an Apple ID authentification problem this can be resolved by downloading and installing any free app.  Even though I doubt that's the problem it wouldn't do any harm to try.  If this doesn't resolve it, and it's only certain apps that are effected, try deleting these apps from your phone and reinstalling them.  You delete them by tapping and holding the app icon until it wiggles, then tap the x.  You can redownload them for free (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519).
If it still persists, the next step is to restore your phone.  You can first try to do this from backup, which will preserve your currend settings and data.  Follow this guide to do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414, taking care to back up your phone at step 6.  You will have the option to restore from this backup at the end.  You must sync your phone with iTunes after doing this to transfer your media (music, etc.) back to your phone.  If this doesn't work, then you will have to go through this process again, but restore your phone as new (since the backup contains the source of the problem).  Unfortunately, you will lose your current data and settings.
