Problem backing up

I have two computers connected to the same Time capsule. Today it stopped backing up with message that Time Machine could not Finnish back up to "my AirPort Time Capsule".  ...Sparsebundle" for back up is already used. This is what I get on both computers. I Tried to shut of Time capsule on one computer, but the other still claims the bundle is in use. Any advice - I'm a beginner at TC...
//Marcus

I am not sure what you tried..
First step in this is to power down the TC manually.. (not sure what you mean by tried to shut of of the TC).. you must power it off.. pull out the power cord.. count to 10 then power it back on.
No luck then power cycle the whole network.. restart in correct order.
Modem.. wait 2min
TC.. wait 2min
Computers.
If still no luck post again.
We will need a full network layout.. and details of what TC and what firmware it is running.
How does everything connect?? Mode the TC is running, ie bridge or router?

  • Problems backing up I-tunes library to external hard drive.

Help - I'm having problems backing up I-tunes library to external hard drive. The drive appears on the desktop but when I try to drag in my i-tunes music folder I just get the circle with a line through it symbol. I can drag items from my mac to a different 4 gig memory stick with no problems. I put some music onto the hard drive from a windows p.c. and that dragged into my i-tunes fine. Any help would be much appreciated.

i'm guessing the external HD is NTFS formatted, which your Mac cannot write to (read only).
you will either have to reformat it (FAT32 or, better yet, for Mac) or install the _*NTFS 3G*_ driver.

  • I am having problems backing up icloud. the message says, "the last backup could not be completed."  Has anyone had this problem?

I just purchased more icloud space and I ham having problems backing up icloud on my iphone 5.  The message says,"the last backup could not be completed."  Anyone know why this is happening.

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup and choose Turn Off & Delete at the prompt.  Then go to Settings>iCloud>Backup and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • I'm having problems backing up my iphone 4 to icloud since 13/04/2012. First it says it's going to take about 5 hours, then it says backup failed. Following instructions-connected to wi-fi, plugged into PC

I'm having problems backing up my iphone 4 to icloud since 13/04/2012. First it says it's going to take 6 hours, then it says backup failed. Following instructions-connected to wi-fi, plugged into PC & locked the phone (though never had any problems like this before), but still no difference. Any ideas/similar problems?

unfortunately there are tons of people with this issue but Apple has not given any answers for us to fix this issue yet. I wish they would allocate more people to solving these problems when they roll out new versions of itunes along with new hardware.

  • What do you do when you iPod has a problem backIng up while updating

Well I was trying to update to iOS 6 but my iPod (4th gen)said it had problems backing up, I have the latest iTunes and it's fine with normal syncing. Please help me I don't want to lose all my data

You pray at least something will be backed up, and hope you have a previous backup on iTunes (as you should have regularly taken anyway.)
You might also try recovering data through syncing with iTunes afterwards, but that's not quite the same...

  • Having a Problem Backing Up Paid For Apps on iPhone to iTunes

Hi, I am having a problem finding out how to back up/sync the Apps I have purchased on my iPhone and have on my iPhone BUT did not purchase in iTunes nor do I have them in iTunes.
Basically, I did not purchase these apps on/in/through iTunes. I got them all while I was on my iPhone. Therefore they are not in iTunes or backed up anywhere else for that matter. And now I want to back them up somehow or "sync" them in iTunes if that is what your suppose to do.
    BUT.......
Every time I try to "sync apps" or any other choice in iTunes while my iPhone is synced up it gives me the message that it will be deleting all the paid for apps on my iPhone and replacing them with the apps currently in iTunes (which is zero !) I am smart enough to know NOT to do that and learned my lesson several times with photos, and music how completely stupid and irrational the "syncing" process is with iTunes and the iPhone and how it makes no sense. (as in, why is it not just like a hard drive ? Drag and drop files to and fro your computer and iPhone that you want backed up or on or off your iPhone, etc..) ? What is with this LAME, stupid, completely convoluted "Sync" idea ? I know several people that constantly lose their contacts, photos, music, calendars, etc.. ALL because the iPhone and COmputer does not act like a normal Hard Drive.... I mean, what is Apple thinking ? Get rid of "Sync" man, its unneeded.
ANYWAY, enough of the rant - So I ask --- HOW do you back up your paid for apps if they are currently on your iPhone, but not in iTunes ? I have searched and searched and nothing is available to do so in iTunes.. what gives ? Surely there has to be a way, but of course is worded wrong with a horrible "action name" maybe ? Restore ? IDK, please help.
On a 16GB iPhone 4 (not the new ones), and running iOS 4.3.5. Latest version of iTunes.
Thanks in advance for all help !

LOL, thanks so much roaminggnome ! The one place/thing I did not see/understand I guess.
Done deal ! It worked fine. I am now all 100% backed up.
    Thanks again.
modular747, thanks for chiming in and helping. I will keep what you said in mind. Although, this particular time all I was trying to do was back up/sync/transfer the Apps I did purchase on my account. I was not intending on doing that for the Apps that came with the iPhone. I figure those will always be there after every update anyway right ? So no need to back them up.
Anyway, thanks again guys, you both were very helpful..

  • I am having problems backing up my photos in iPhoto and dragging them to desktop folder to burn out of iPhoto!

I have been having issues with backing up photos in iPhoto for  awhile. I used to burn them right out of iPhoto by selecting the folder, going to Share and then Burn. I have been getting an error message that says "Burn failed because there was an error producing data for the burn". So I started to drag the photos from iPhoto to a folder on the desktop, then burn the folder to a disc. This worked for awhile. Recently iPhoto will not allow me to drag photos to a desktop folder. I can select them in iPhoto, click on them and it shows the plus sign and number of photos, but when I drop them it does nothing. I can do it one at a time for about 4 photos, then it stops again. I also tried to export the photos into a folder on the desktop and it says Unable to create /Users/... I do back up photos to a TimeCapsule as well, but like to have a DVD in a fireproof safe too. I also ran disk utility repair disk permissions. I have an account for my wife as well and both iphotos share the same iphoto library but ths has never been a problem until recently. She also uses aperature, but pulls the photos from iphoto to edit them. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • AE CC and the Rest of Adobe Apps - ProRes Quicktime Render Gamma Problem Back AGAIN

    Hi ---
With this version I am back to square one with AE NOT being able to render out correct gamma exporting to PR4444 -
Scenario (And this matter NOT whether I use Color Management or Not)
    1) I open a Clip in AE or PPRO (In this case a TIFF Sequence RAW'ed from Lightroom)
    2) I switch back and forth between Lightroom and AE and the images are identical in color and gamma
    3) I export to PR4444 and open in Quicktime Player or FCPx and the Gamma is off.
    4) If I re-import the exported file into AE - AE reads the file with a diff. gamma and the result appears to be identical with source
But it is no good that the result only looks the way it was intended in AE ! --- The poeople on the web are not viewing the movie in AE but with other players.
If i open that same tiff sequence in the quicktime player pro and export to PR4444 the results are 100% identical.
I find it highly frustrating that a company so higly regarded with so amazing software is NOT able to render out an image correctly...
This problem has been around since forever and I find it higly disturbing that this issue has not yet been addressed.
As of now I have no choice that to ditch AE and PPRO.... I WANT the images I work with to look the way they do in the app while color grading... What point is there in CG'ing images to perfection
if adobe cant even render out the results....
As I stated it does NOT matter whether I am color managing or not... Results are lighter in gamma when viewed in anything else than AE or PPRO !!!!!!
The amount to correct back is approx. a gamma of 0.9
BTW --- When in 32 bit how come I cannot set a gamma of 0.905 why is the gamma limited to two digits after the comma... 32 bit has MUCH more to offer !!!!

    Thanks Todd,
I have tried those tips before. Unfortunately, I haven't had great success with them in this case.
When I reserve the 16GB of RAM for other apps and RAM preview a comp containing multiple Prores 4444 footage layers, it plays back and retains the cache as expected. However, the 2nd RAM preview of another comp in the same project containing multiple Prores 4444 footage layers stays stuck in "Initializing Background Processes." A check with Activity Monitor usually shows aeselflink processes that are hung up.
This has been my experience until I came upon the work-around of precomping Prores files.
To demonstrate, here's a screen shot of the stuck process with the memory settings I used -
I rebooted the system and tried 2 more times with the same result.
If I simply precomp the Prores 4444 footage layers as demonstrated in the video, I get smooth RAM preview caching and performance. This works even if I allocated less RAM to other applications in the Memory and Multiprocessing preferences (hence the 6GB setting from earlier). With the work-around, AE runs smooth with no hiccups and RAM previews behave as expected.

  • Problem backing up multiple internal hard drives to external

    SITUATION:
We have 4 internal hard drives dedicated to media + another running the programs. The FCP projects are all saved on one of the media hard drives which also has captured media on it. The other 3 media drives hold the rest of the media for these projects. I have copied them all, one hard drive at a time, onto a La Cie external hard drive.
    PROBLEM:
When I go into the La Cie drive, double click on HardDrive1 and open a project, the only "on line" clips in the browser are from the HardDrive1. It can't seem to link up to the media on the other three hard drives even though all the media is there.
    QUESTION:
Anyone know how to set up the La Cie disk so that the projects on HD1 can find all their media from the 3 other media hard drives?

OK, had coffee, thinking straight(er)...almost not confused.
Your recent post would indicate that you have 7 harddrives inside your Mac.?.?. I think I understand what you have going on, and may be able to help, but it'll take a bit more info...
Are each of the 'desktop icon' harddrives individual harddrives, or partitioned HDs. If any are partitioned, can you tell me which?
I understand PROMAX has a good name, so I'm inclined to believe that whatever they did, was done properly and with good reason.
Anyway, I copied all of these hard drives onto the LaCie starting with the FCP HD and set that one up as a "bootable" hard drive. The rest followed, one HD at a time (took forever!).
"I copied all of these hard drives"... How did you copy...CCCloner? MediaManager, Drag and drop. This may be part of the issue...a little beyond my scope, but let us know how you copied the drive contents from internal to Lacie.
Can you open any of the 'non-findable' clips on the Lacie in QuickTime..just to make sure they're on the drive and usable?
When you open FCP on the lacie (and it only connects to files from same 'drive')...do you get the normal 'reconnect media' prompt, or are you getting a window that says 'The movie file "------" cannot be found. Without this file, the movie cannot play properly.
If the standard 'reconnect media' prompt..., have you tried selecting 'reconnect' then when that window comes up select, 'search' and uncheck 'Matched Name Only'...keep 'Reconnect all files in relative path' checked as this will link all files from that drive at the same time.
    Try this and post back.

  • Problem backing up ses files

I have been trying to back up encore projects from my edit machine to an external hard drive and have been able to back up everything except a couple of these files.  Is there a character limit that anyone knows about?  I think that might have something to do with it.  I'm using a Encore CS3 in Windows XP backing up to a 1 terabyte western digital hard drive.
    Thanks.

    Neil,
Probably a perfect call. All of my externals are Converted/Formatted to NTFS upon arrival, and I've never encountered any problem when doing a full backup of an Encore Project to them. I do use "_" instead of spaces in my Project File Names now, But even with spaces, I didn't encounter any problems.

  • Navigation problem (back button)

    Hi all,
I'm new to jsf and I'm having a problem with navigation.
There are two pages one for the header information and one for the details, a button permit to add a row of details.
What I need is to place e "back" button to allow to return to header pages.
The problem is that all the fields in the detail page are mandatory so if I put a normal command button it makes a check on the fileds and throws an error (field must not be blank) .
Which type of Componet should I have to use ?
Thanks to all for the response

Maybe u can try to put immediate="true" in the back command button

  • Serious Problem Backing Up/ Please Help

I thought my iMac 17" was working fine. I'm a .mac member and downloaded "Backup" to, well, back up my data. Per recommendation of Backup I tried to use software update before backing up. This would not work (tiny blip on dock and then nothing). I found I also could not use disk utility or install Backup from the .dmg file.
I tried to do an archive and install, but that did not work as an error was reported.
I used disk utility from the OSX installation disk. I repaired some permissions successfully. However disk repair failed because of an "invalid sibling link."
The hardware test indicated "no trouble."
I decided to try to do an erase and install after first copying my data to DVDs. When I inserted the DVD (verbatim 16x DVD-Recordable), I got an error message saying "the disk drive is not supported." (Note I did use the installation disks without a problem). This happened with three different blank discs.
I tried using my iPod. When I inserted the iPod into the cradle the icon appeared for a short time (saying I need to erase and sync), however after just a little while the icon disappeared and an error message appeared saying "the device was removed improperly" though I hadn't touched anything.
The files amount to roughly 35 gigabytes (photos music movies). Too much to back up to idisk. I can see and use the folders (for now) but don't seem to have any way to get them on to a backup media so I can erase and install.
Apple suppport's reaction was "you aree running out of options." I suppose I could buy an external hard drive but since the iPod doesn't work via a USB connection, I'm not sure that will help.
Any ideas welcome. I MUST save this data. Thanks.

There are many serious directory problems that Disk Utility cannot fix. You really should buy a copy of DiskWarrior and see if it can fix the problem. Also buy an external drive that has both firewire and USB connections. A firewire drive can make a bootable clone, which is a very good thing to have. You may be able to at least copy your personal data to the firewire drive if DiskWarrior is unable to fix the directory problem. You should also be able to at least install the system onto the firewire drive (make sure if you do this to name the account the same as the one on your internal drive) and boot from the firewire drive and then try to copy your personal data to the external drive.

  • Problems backing up to external HD

    Hi there,
I bought an external hd today - the Western Digital Passport, 120 gigs, USB. The 'installation guide' says simply to plug it in - which I did. It shows up on my desktop as a disk-the icon is mostly orange and has the USB symbol on it (I don't know if this matters, but I haven't seen it before).
Anyway, I am trying to create a backup clone of my HD. I read around on the boards and saw that Carbon Copy Cloner is recommended for this (SuperDuper doesn't have a version for my older OS). However, when I try to start the program, it says:
"CCC could not find any local disks mounted on your system besides the startup disk. Please mount another local disk and try running CCC again."
I can't figure out if this is a problem with CCC or with the HD -- I looked on both websites for help, but the WD website guide for installation seems imply that you just plug it in a go.
If anyone has any recommendations for what's wrong, or a different backup program to try, I'd really appreciate it! Am worried my computer is dying on me, so want to get it all backed up asap!
    Thanks so much,

Having a journaled file system slightly increases your chances of recovering data from the drive if you run into problems; journaling can be turned on and off later without erasing the drive again. You should check the option to install Mac OS 9 drivers; they don't take up much space, and you can't add them later without erasing the drive again.

  • Fix to the problem-- Back up Disk Image could not be mounted

In order for TC to backup your entire HD it needs to create a Disk Image on your Mac. For example you would have seen your computer do this operation if you ever installed programs on your Mac computer.
I actually had this same problem and I searched the forum for answers. One fix that I found was that your computer might actually not be named. To fix this click on the apple in the upper left hand corner and then go to >System Preferences. Then click on >Sharing, after you do that you will see Computer name at the top. Type in whatever name you like for that part and then also turn on file sharing by clicking the box next to it below.
The other fix to this problem...which was actually the solution to mine, was that during setup 2 files for a Disk Image mount were created onto the Time Capsule itself. It is only supposed to have one. *In order to fix this problem-->If your Time Capsule is setup so it allows file sharing you should be able to see it as a connectable disk drive in your Finder window under sharing. Click on Time Capsule from there and enter in you password. You should now be able to search though the files on it. Since this is your first time setting it up there should only be one file visible on the Drive and that one file is what creates the mounted Disk Drive...(What I found on my Time Capsule drive was a file labeled with a bunch of numbers and then a Shared folder and then another file with a bunch of numbers in that). For me it actually turned out that the first file was not working properly but the one in the shared folder was. So I deleted the first file and dragged the second file that was working out of the shared folder and into the main part of the Time capsule Disk and then deleted the shared folder.
The way you can tell which file is the correct one is by double clicking it, if you get an error message right away, delete it. If it starts to load, then that is the file you should keep. After I did this mine worked fine and backed up my disk last night. I hope this helps

I have had the time capsule since it first shipped. In that time I've TWICE suffered a corrupt backup disk image (which I checked by trying to hand mount it by selecting the TC under sharing, and trying to open the sparse image - each time it failed and reported an unfixable error). Each time this occurred after the machine had been working flawlessly for 3 or 4 weeks. This makes the machine completely useless in respect of Time Machine. The disk seems to check out as I've just zero'd all data and it did not report a fault, and I have now reset the capsule (using the hole at the back) hoping that perhaps I can give it one last shot. It seems to me that basing these backups on a diskimage is a bad idea because in principle you could lose a single bit and the diskimage will not mount (unless there's redundancy in whatever header information etc. it uses) and then you lose ALL your files. I would have thought that backing up as individual files would be more robust to occasional corruption. Anyhow, this is all very disappointing, and I've been in touch with an Apple rep I deal with to seek advice. Apple need to fix this. I don't know if it's a problem with Time Capsule, or Time Machine.
