Problem connecting Oracle 9i Lite to Oracle 9i Database

Hi,
I have just started working with Oracle 9i Lite and I am having
problems connecting to an Oracle 9i (9.0.1) database using the
packaging wizard. I can connect ok using SQL*Plus but when I connect
using this wizard the database is located i.e. no errors arise, but
the database schemas and tables are not found i.e. list is not
popluated.
However if I try to connect to an Oracle 8i (8.1.7) database there is
no problem and the schemas and tables are found with the list being
popluated.
Does anyone know what the problem could be?
Regards
Andrew.

I am having a similar problem, where I couldn't connect to Oracle 8i database (817). I am getting a error message when I tried to use Packaging Wizard -> Snapshot -> Import -> Username/password and jdbc:oracle:oci8:@connect string or jdbc:oracle:thin:@host:1521:Sid
The error message is 'No Suitable Driver. Make Sure the Proper JDBC drive for "jdbc:oracle:oci8i:@<connect string>" is in the classpath"
I would appricated if someone can send me any help on this.
My email address is [email protected]
Thanks
Joshua

  • Problem connecting Crystal reports 10 to Oracle 9, urgent help needed

    Post Author: SemV
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
I am working with Crystal reports Developer 10, connecting  it to different native and ODBC datasources, everything working fine, exept the case when I am trying to connect to Oracle 9 ( I tested it with Oracle 10  - got the same result) through ODBC driver. I am getting list of users of specified Oracle DB, but instead of further division on Tables, Stored procedures, Views and Qualifiers for certain user, I am gettting plain list of stored procedures, without possibility to select certain table I need. When trying to connect on the same machine, with the same Crystal and Oracle client installation trough native Oracle driver it works fine.
I tried to download and use last version of the Oracle ODBC drivers for Oracle 9.2 from Oracle web-site, but it didn't work and I got message about odbc driver internal error.
Can anyone, pls, suggest, what the might be a reason for the problem and what can I do to fix it or to try to fix it.

Oracle ODBC is more problematic, why not use native?
If you want additional help, state speicifcally what the error was and when you received it.

  • Oracle 10g lite and Oracle 8i compatibility

I have a series of Oracle 8.1.7.4 database servers running on Unix platforms scattered around the globe that use multi-master replication for synchronization. I need to populate approximately 500 Windows 2000 deployable systems that will operate in austere communication environments. These remote systems will need to be kept synchronized with the primary servers. I have no choice but to keep Oracle 8.i on the primary servers but have some flexibility in deploying a more current version on the PCs. Are there interoperability problems between Oracle 8.i and 10g Oracle Database Lite?

After having wasted 2 days trying to get Oracle Lite 10g Release 2 (10.0.1.2)working with Oracle RDBMS 1.8.7.4 (running on VMS) we failed. We had to downgrade to OLITE 10g R1 (10.0.0.) that evntually worked in combination with 8.1.7.4. We also found out that Oracle Lite Mobile Server repository should reside on the same Oracle instance as the back-end database.

  • Oracle 9i Lite to Oracle 8i master, & Apache on HP

    1. Are there any replication issues or limitations when using 9i lite clients against an 8.1.7 master?
    2. In the system requirements, it lists having Apache for NT or OAS9i as requirements. Are these set in stone, or supported versions? We run Apache on HP UNIX. Is that an issue?
For both, the app being designed is a PC laptop JAVA solution using JDBC to the local 9i lite client replicating asynchonously to an 8.1.7 master.
    Thanks,

    Thanks,
Tom 1) Make sure your jdk is at 1.3 on the mobile server if using Oracle mid-tier. Otherwise no show-stoppers.
    2) 9i Lite Mobile Server will run using Apache but has 'issues' in doing so. We have had success installing Mobile Server (Apache wrapped in Oracle) in standalone configuration (no plug-ins and no configuration required).
    3) PC -> java (jdbc) -> 9i Lite client SYNC'd to 8.1.7 has worked for me on many occasions.

  • ODBC connections to Oracle 9i Lite

i'm currently using oracle 9i Lite 5.0.2 database and Palm OS 5.1. can any body send me a sample code in JAVAwith which i can connect to Oracle Lite database in my palm from a PALM Application using ODBC.

I am running the OBIEE software on Windows XP Professional on a laptop. An Oracle 10.2.0.1 EE database also resides on this machine.
My TNSNAMES.ora file is located in one of my Oracle Homes but I have a system environment variable set for TNS_ADMIN. I am using the default listener installed with the preconfigured database, and I can connect to the database ok from the PC using SQL*Plus, TOAD etc. I have also tried connecting to the ODBC data source set up for this 10g db from within Excel with no problems.
The System DSN entry called ORCLSH uses the driver 'Oracle in OraDB 10g_home1'. I have tried the ODBC driver with both a username entered and not. The TNS entry alias ORCLSH is used, which matches my TNSNAMES.ora file entry in the location designated by TNS_ADMIN. My db service name is ORCL. The parameters in the data connections are left are their defaults, i.e., enable result sets, enable query timeout, enable thread safety - all checked.
The connection pool has been named ORCLSH too. I'm using Call interface ODBC 3.5, max connections 10, data source name ORCLSH. Shared login - checked, enable connection poolng - checked, use multithreaded connections - checked, execute queries asynchronously - checked, parameters supplied - checked (defaults).
The writeback tab has been left alone (prefix TT, bulk insert buffer size 32, trx boundary 10).
What other parameter details do you need to know, other that what details I have previously provided?
    Cheers,

What kind of webtogo do you try to install?
Have you installed a jre 1.1.8 or plus?
    Is your database started?
If yes, you try to put system and system 's password.
    Best regards,

  • Using oracle lite as a standalone database

we are currently using olite 4.0 as a standalone/embedded database. although some form of data synchronisation is required, it is handled separately by our own program.
to use oracle 9i lite as a standalone/embedded database seems like a daunting task now. the environment now is much more complex compared to olite 4.0.
any idea how I can use oracle 9i lite just for the database only, without installing all the unnecessary stuffs?
    thanks.

    Hi,
I have been using Oracle Flashback Database for a long time in our test environments. As you already said, I recommend that you create Guaranteed Restore Points rather than rely on db_flashback_retention_target.  If you are planning to use Guaranteed Restore Points only, then you don't need to turn on flashback. If flashback database is not enabled, then the database must be mounted, not open, when creating the first guaranteed restore point (or if all previously created guaranteed restore points have been dropped).
    My Answers:
    1) I don't think so. Flashback database is faster compared to RMAN restore/recover operations.
    2) Create a backup ins not mandatory, but is a good practice.
    3) I created a Nagios plugin that take this work for me, but you can check the v$recovery_file_dest view from time to time.
    4) If you take a backup then I don't see a problem, but take care that flashback database relies not only on flashback log files but also in archive redo log files. I recommend you to delete archivelogs (from RMAN) after you drop the restore point.
    5) Flashback log files are automatically deleted after the Guaranteed restore points are deleted.
    6) Read documentation, make more tests. In 2011 I wrote an article (Brazilian Portuguese) about Flashback Database. Maybe you can take a look ;-)
    Cheers

  • Any difference in the dbms and jdbc drivers btw oracle 8i lite and 9i lite

Is there any significant difference between oracle 8i lite and oracle 9i lite in terms of database and jdbc drivers?
If not, it may be better off using oracle8i.

According to Oracle , 9i lite is more powerful than 8i Lite.
one thing, 8i Lite is not certified for windows 2000.

  • JDeveloper - Oracle 8i Lite Connection Problem

I am trying to connect to Oracle 8i Lite database on my local machine (NT as the OS) from JDeveloper 3.1.1.2, I am getting "Network adapter could not establish connection" error. I can not even do Net8 Easy Config as I have no idea what the SID name is as 8i Lite installation did not ask for any SID name and it just created the polite databse (which works fine from ODBC).
What is the default SID name for 8i Lite ?
How to fix this probelm. Any help is greatly appreciated. VR.

There is some more work you need to do to make JDeveloper work with Oracle Lite. Details are in an earlier response to a similar problem:

  • Oracle 8i Lite connection problem

I'm trying to make connection with Oracle 8i Lite native jdbc driver. I'm getting error "Unable to find driver oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver" when pressing Test button.
olite40.jar is in IDEClassPath in jdeveloper.ini and Oracle 8i Lite is in Default Project Libraries.
    What I've missed?

If you have added the Olite40.jar file to the IDE_CLASSPATH setting in the jdeveloper.ini file, make sure you restarted JDeveloper after editing the ini file.
Also, make sure you specity 'Olite40.jar' not 'olite40.jar' (watch the case of the archive file name).

  • Problem with Oracle 8i Lite & Forms 6i

I have Oracle8i installed on Windows 2K and can connect to the database by using SYSTEM, ANYPASSWORD and ODBC:POLITE as the Host String. When I installed Forms6i, I have problem connecting to the database. No error messages, just could not connect with the same username and host string. Can any body help!

    Hi,
I'm runing Oracle8i Lite in windows ME, and I do get the an error saying that the server is too low for this feature, but I get the SQL prompt right away after that. Maybe u should configure the password in the Oracle 8 Navigator, by selecting the new Object icon, and then register your new Database connection.
    Good luck

  • Oracle 8i Lite problems

    Hello,
I just installed Oracle 8i Lite on Windows XP Professional. I have some trouble with local databases, connecting to them, defining TNS, and Listeners.
Ok question is realy simple, how to i connect to Local database i create myself, and how to i access it trough SQL Plus?
When i create my local database called "test" i define TNS and listeners as stated in manual. When i try to connect trough Navigator, it simply works sometimes, but sometimes it just freezes. I cant test it trough TNSPING because all the time i get error TNS:No Listener.
I hope my questions are clearly understandable
Thanks in advanced for any help provided

  • Oracle 8i Lite Sqlplus connections

    Hi
I am trying to run 2 concurrent sqlplus connections in Oracle 8i lite ... it works fine ... if I dont make any changes to database. But Once I commit the changes .... I am not able to make any more connections ....it gives OCA-30017 "Error Loggin on to non-oracle database" and fails connecting to oracle 8i lite. I am using the standard ODBC driver (Oracle Lite) to connect to sqlplus. Please help !!!
    Thanks
    Prabhu.

I am using Windows 2000 Professional and I am experiencing the same problem. I can connect to the POLITE database from Oracle8 Navigator and Oracle ODBC 32bit Test but not from SQL*Plus. Here is what I see:
    Connected to:
Oracle Open Client Adapter for ODBC 6.0.5.29.0
    Oracle Lite ORDBMS 4.0.1.0.7
    SQL> connect system/mgr@odbc:POLite
Server not available or version too low for this feature
    Connected.
    SQL> connect system/mgr
    ERROR:
ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination
Warning: You are no longer connected to ORACLE.
Should I try to upgrade my Open Client Adapater (OCA)? Could it be something with my PATH? How can I set up the default TNS to connect to POLITE? Any suggestions?

    George,
Try the following host string: ODBC:POLITE
Lite typically uses the SID of POLite for installation of the default database, so this host string should do the trick. If not, drop me an email and we'll work through it together.
    Hope this helps!

  • Oracle 9i Lite Installation Problems

Hello, I'm installing Oracle 9i Lite Version over Windows XP. When I'm connecting the mobile server (like an apache server's module) to the repository, I write in my browser:
and the response of the browser is: "The requested URL was not found on this server". Someone knows, what's the problem?. What's the mobile server name and its port number?.
    Thank you.

    Jorge,
You can check the tnsnames.ora file for the Mobile Server name and port number. Once you find the correct server and port information, please point your browser to:
    http://<Mobile Server>:<port>/webtogo
    for the Web-to-Go home or
    http://<Mobile Server>:<port>/webtogo/setup
    for the client download page.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
