Problem connection Developer to Oracle Server

I've installed Oracle Personal Edition and Forms Developer6i.
My oracle database loads up with no problems and I can do sql work to my hearts content. I can create tables and store data in there and retrieve it with select statements but as soon as I go into developer I get one of two things:
1) I type in my username/password and specify the database name I get this error:
ORA-12154:TNS:could not resolve service name
2) Or I type in my username/password and leave the database field blank (which I do in sql plus to connect) and I get this error:
ORA-01034:ORACLE not available.
But with either of these I have the database running and can as I previously said do SQL work. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

For Personal Oracle 8i and Developer 6i to work u have to do the following:
1. U should have Installed the Net8 Products when Installing the Developer 6i.
2. Configure the Listener on the Server ( Listener.ora)
3. Ensure that the Listener is up and running
4. Configure Net8Easy Configuration ( TNSNAMES.ORA will be appended by this tool)
5. Test the Connection
Though it is all installed in One PC. U have to do this.

    Hi,
I am using Oracle 10g. My question is, is it possible to find how many users are connected in the Oracle Server. We are having one Server and we are having many client machines which will connect the Oracle.
And one more question in the meanwhile i want to take Backup of one database which client as connected. Is it get any problem to the client machine which is accessing the server. And How to take the backup from the server machine. Any commands to process.
    Thank u...!

    Hi there.
    If You run
select count(*) from v$session where username is not null;you'll get the number of users connected to Oracle server,
and yes , you could do backup while users are connect to db you are backing up.
    cheers

  • Connecting to the Oracle Server

I want to write a small application which will connect to the Oracle Server (10g).
I have downloaded the ojdbc14.jar from the Oracle site. What should I do with it now ?
Someone told me that you have to add it to classpath. Which classpath ? the systems ? or in the project itself ?
and how will I be able to connect to it ? I mean which api(s) should I use.
    Can anyone help me please

It should be in the classpath of your application that connects to DB.

  • Problem connecting to Web Services server

    Hello,
I've had my printer running perfectly since I installed it 3 days ago but today I am nolonger able to use eprint. I can still scan and print from my home PC and laptop but I am unable to send emails directly to the printer now. This was working fine and I used the feature fairly often without error but today no emails arrived. When I logged on to the eprint web site using my google account {Personal Information Removed} the status of the printer said disconnected. I've tried deleting the printer and re-attaching it (which had no effect) and I've now tried disabling web services on the printer then re-enabling it. When I try this I now receive the following error: Problem connecting to Web Services server.
The printer model is a HP Photosmart Premium C310a with the lastest software update. The printer is connected to my network via Wifi and is reachable and usable from all my PC's.
It seems to me that there is something wrong with the software configuration on the printer, the reason I think this is because the screen interface slows down to a crawl after some use and when this happens it is not possible to switch the printer off via the power button. The only solution is to pull the power cable! This is something new and didn't happen before, is there a way to reset to factory default, the option in the menu doesn't seem to reset everything?
    Please advise ASAP.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stuart {Personal Information Removed}

    Greetings,
The ePrint Service has been having some issues after the upgrade. The server team has found and fixed a bug in the latest release that affected connectivity. If you're having problems, please unregister your product (from the Web Services menu, select "Remove Web Services"), then register again (from the Web Services menu, select "Enable Web Services).
After reregistering, I have been very successful using both ePrint and the Print Apps using my HP LaserJet CM1415. It has been staying connected, and promptly printing jobs I send to it. It has also been reconnecting after I powercycle. I sincerely hope you have the same experience. We had an ePrintCenter outage a few minutes ago that may have affected connectivity, but I am able to use ePrint and the Print Apps again as of 5:15 Mountain Time.

Depend of what releases you are talking about.
The client 9iR1 has never been supported against a 10gR2 server.

Configure the net configuration for both 9idb and 9ids in the same way. Make sure the TNSlisner is started.

  • Connect to Remote Oracle Server?

    Hi all,
What is the recommended method for connecting a Windows 2000 web server to a remote Oracle database? Ideally, a driver could add the remote Oracle database to our local list of ODBC datasources.
We're using ColdFusion (web application development package) to connect to local ODBC datasources. A prospective client of ours would like to use our ColdFusion web server, but with their own Oracle server providing the back-end database, rather than use our native Access or SQL databases. I'm happy to do this, provided a simple, secure and free solution is available.
The ColdFusion support forums talk about an "Oracle Client" though I can find no reference to it -- let alone, a download page -- on Oracle.com.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Dave

The general procedure for connecting a web server to an Oracle database via ODBC is as follows:
    1) Install the Oracle client on the web server machine. You can download the Oracle client from OTN by going to "Software" and choosing "Oracle 8i EE". If you have an Oracle CD, "client-only" is an installation option. Note that the 8.1.7.0 ODBC driver will be installed automatically when the Oracle client is installed. You may want to download and install the updated 8.1.7.2 ODBC driver.
    2) Use the Net8 Configuration Assistant to provide the Oracle client with the connection information for the remote Oracle database.
    3) Create a new ODBC DSN for the Oracle database (alternately, your application can make a DSN-less connection)
    4) Now, your application should be able to connect with the Oracle database.

  • Connecting to remote oracle server from asp

    Hi All
How can I access remote oracle server from asp?. I'm using the following connection string.
    " Provider=MS Remote;Remote Provider=MSDAORA;Data Source=XYZ;Remote Server=http://DBServersIP;User Id=id;Password=pw"
Both the web server and DB server has oracle client. I can tnsping, connect using sql * plus from the webserver.
But when I try to do simple connection & query , I get the following error.
    " Microsoft ADO/RDS(0x80072EFD)
Internet Client Error: Cannot Connect to Server.
All the permission settings are given correctly (after referring Microsoft & Oracle websites)
Can someone throw some links or help.?
    Your replies much appreciated.
    Thank you
    Arum

why do you have http://DBServersIP as the remote server?
Your connection string should look like:
    "Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle};Server=MY_SID;Uid=my_user;Pwd=my_pwd;"
There are other variations, but none of them should include HTTP anywhere.

  • Problem connecting to lotus notes server.

    Hey Everyone
    I am using:
    Windows XP, service pack 2
    PC suite 6.85.14.1
    Bluetooth connection
    Phone Nokia E65
I am trying to connect my laptop to the office lotus notes server. But it seems PC sync can’t locate my id file or the notes server. The fields under sync setup are simply empty.
My Notes client didn’t have any problems connecting to the server.
There are about 10 other people in the office all using the same setup (Nokia E65 and a the same type laptop) without problems.
I have tried the solution in this topic but it didn’t help: /discussions/board/message?board.id=pcsuite&message.id=24092&query.id=149864#M24092.
Any idea what the problem might be?
    Thx in advance
    \Andreas

    open regedit
    go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nokia\PCSync\Settings
    open => NotesIni
instead of for exemple => C:\Application_Data\notes\
type the entire path => C:\Application_Data\notes\Notes.ini
    it should work

  • Problem installing ODAC for Oracle Server 11g

I have installed Oracle Server 11g (OS:Windows XP)
    Questions:
    1. I tried installing ODAC for Oracle Server 11.1.0.6.21, then its giving the following error message: "Oracle data access components can only be installed over an existing oracle server 11g".
    2. We have a Monorail application running on NHibernate using ODP.NET. It's working perfectly when I run it on my Visual Studio 2008.
But, when I tried to host this application, it gave me the following error message: "The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client"
Please suggest how to resolve these issues.

    Hi
Could that be related to the %ORACLE_HOME% ?
I've read that on the ODAC installation guide:
On a machine without Visual Studio .NET 2003 installed, ODAC products now work if they are installed in a new Oracle Home
So it should be performed in a new %ORACLE_HOME% and not the same as the database. Please change that and retry.

    On your second question :
Q: I get an error: "Unable to load DLL (OraOps.dll)". How do I fix this?
A: First, ensure the OraOps.dll file is in your Oracle bin directory (e.g. d:\oracle\ora92\bin\). Next, check that your Oracle bin directory is in the Windows system path. If either of these are not present, re-install ODP.NET. Depending on the application, you may have to restart the application (e.g. Windows Service) or reboot the computer (e.g. ODP.NET install makes changes to the PATH) for ODP.NET installation to be complete. If your ODP.NET installation is still not working, you may be running into this problem.

  • Problems connecting to the Admin Server

My browser can't connect to the Admin Server. Why not?
    <P>
If you cannot connect to the Admin Server, ensure that the masks of
Hosts and Addresses entries in /admin-serv/config/ns-admin.conf
include the host and address you are connecting from. After changing
these parameters, stop and start the Admin Server by running the shell
    scripts /stop-admin and
    /start-admin.

    Thanx for the reply Shane.
i had just stumbled upon the imap log before seeing your answer. i've found and fixed the problem.
the imap log showed the following message
Access to imap service for user@domain denied from client address (*mailAllowedServiceAccess)while the http log showed the following message
Access to smime service for user@domain denied from client address (mailAllowedServiceAccess)after some digging, i understood that th mailAllowedServiceAccess is a user profile property.
For my non-admin user, it was set to +imaps:ALL$+pops:ALL$+smtp:ALL$+http:ALL i modified it to include simple imap and the problem was solved.
ps: some threads that pointed me in the right direction

  • Problems Connecting to Discoverer App Server

I have Discoverer3i and Oracle8i co-existing on one NT 4.0 sp3 machine with IIS as the Web Server.
All parts of the installation went well. I can connect to the database from both instances using sql*plus and the DB Alias. I can connect to the EUL using Discoverer User edition on the server itself.

The OracleDiscovererService is running, so is the OADUTIL and the Locator. I even cleaned up the CLASSPATH and removed PATH references to the Oracle 8i installation of JRE to ensure no conflicts but still get this error. Any Ideas anyone?
