Problem in Import of Tables from SQL Server.
Hi Forum,
I m new to OWB.
I m facing a prob regarding the import of tables.
I m importing tables from SQL server through ODBC DB Link..
It imports the tables fine, but without key constraints..
Can u tell me, Why? and How can I import that info as well?
Hi David,
The things I said are not a fix for this problem.
If your RCU installation worked, then you do not have to worry about modifying the createfr.sql.
Edit:
I've just tracked the problem. It appears that when using the query builder, BI forgets to add the " sign.
For example:
This query will give the hyperion error.
select "table"."field"
from "database.user"."table"
To correct it write it like this:
select "table"."field"
from "database"."user"."table"

Migration of table from sql server to oracle
Hi,
I had to export few tables from SQL Server to Oracle. After the migration, I am checking to see all the tables in Oracle that have been migrated from Sql Server. I am executing select * from tab; and am seeing all the the tables (including those have been exported) from the output list of tables. However, when I am doing a select * from x; where x is one of the few tables that have been migrated, it says table or view does not exist. This is the problem with all other migrated tables. Any help is appreciated in advance. Thanks.

Migrating a table from SQL server 2005 to oracle 9i
Hi
I need to migrate a table from SQL server to oracle, both of which are on different machines, I tried using SQL server DTS export functionality selected the Oracle driver, created a DSN, but it gave error message box as shown below
Error Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers
"ORA 12560 :TNS protocol adapter error"
Context:Error During initialization of the provider
While i was successfully able to migrate the table from SQL SERVER to MS-ACCESS and from MS ACCESS to Oracle
thanks
abhishekHi
thanks warren, i just figured out that the DSN i had created while migrating data from Access to oracle was User DSN, i just created a system DSN of the similar kind and was successfully able to export the data from SQL server to oracle, the only problem being the column names in SQL server are longer than the limit of 30 characters we have in ORACLE..

2. If DB link is a solution then would you please provide me a step by step process to do so?
3. Is there any issue with datatype?
SQL Server db is on windows 2008 R2
Oracle is in RHEL 5.5
Will appreciate ur help.well suppose i generate flat files from sql server and load in oracle by sqlloader then will there be any issue with vbinary datatype? what should be the equivalent data type in oracle table?

Nishith ShahInformative thread indeed. Wish I saw it early enough. Managed to come up with the code below before I saw this thread.
declare @TTName Table

Import IMAGE type from SQL Server to BLOB in Oracle
Hello,
Is there a way to import a IMAGE type from SQL Server to BLOB type in Oracle from one table to another through a database link?
I'm waiting for an answer as soon as possible.
Best regards,
Florin
Edited by: Florin Manole on Sep 10, 2008 11:53 AMHave you already configured a Heterogeneous Services and Generic Connectivity to create a database link from Oracle to SQL Server? I haven't tried copying IMAGE data from SQL Server via Heterogeous Services myself, but from the [data type map|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14232/apb.htm#sthref509] in the documentation, I would expect that it would work so long as the SQL Server ODBC driver maps the IMAGE data type to SQL_LONGVARBINARY

Import Access Table into SQL Server 2005
I am using BIDS and have created a OLEDB connection to my mdb file, and a DataFlowTask for the Control Flow, but lost on what to set-up on the Data Flow tab. What do I do to set-up the data flow to import the mdb table to sql server?
Why Execute SQL Task is needed?
Typically the SQL is embedded into the OLEDB Source.
I guess when you were working on the destination you chose to create the table. Then you mapped to it. Why you cannot find it in
options I am not sure. Can you post a picture? The table would be now in the drop down list of tables available, but you supposed not to repeat this step.

Maybe I am just not fully understanding the link posted - but am trying. Attached are my screenshots 1 of Control Flow Tab and 2 of Data Flow Tab. My process is to take an access table and link it into SQL Server -

Best way to import data only from sql server 2k to ora9.2
I have a situation where I don't care about indexes, procedures. The DDLs from sql server 2k and ora9.2
are (mostly) teh same, I need to port the data from sqlserver to my ora database.
what is the best way to do it?
thanks.Hello Zack,
The Oracle Migration Workbench can help you to migrate your data from your Oracle 9.2 database to SQL Server 2000. Please refer to Chapter 6, 'Migrating the Database' in the Oracle Migration Workbench User's Guide for more information about how to migrate your data using the Oracle Migration Workbench.
You can find this document at the following location on the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) Web site:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B15857_01/migrate_db.htm#sthref282
I hope this helps.

Exceptions thrown while importing tables from SQL Server 2000
Hi all,
<MyProblem:
I cannot import the tables defined in my local SQL Server. An exception is thrown --oracle.jdeveloper.cm.ds.db.ValidationException: Columns of type varchar cannot have a size specified.
/>
<What I have done:
In Oracle JDev 10g, Created a new DB connection called "SQLServerConnection" to connect to the SQL Server and it works fine. I am able to see all tables by expanding the connection.
During the creation of a new partner link named "DBAdapter", I use the adapter wizard to select DB Adapter and then select the "SQLServerConnection" DB connection I have created. I select Perform an Operation on a Table and then check Select. After I pressed OK button on the[i] Import Tables dialog, a Error messege box emmerged indicating the Exception: Columns of type varchar cannot have a size specified.
I try to change the data type of the columns of the tables to char, there is still similar exception (Columns of type char cannot have a size specified).
/>
I got the stack trace from the prompt by using jdev.exe.

Periodic Importing of data from SQL Server into Oracle Database
I would like to know how I can use the SQL Developer tool to import data from a SQL Server database across the internet into an Oracle Database on a periodic basis? I understand there is a Migration Workbench, but it seems to be only a one off activity.
What I would really like is to be able to import data for example, very 30 minutes from multiple tables/views in a SQL Server Database into an Oracle Database (overwriting or modifying existing same data) without the need for Heterogeneous Connectivity, as my Oracle Database is not my LAN.
Thank you for your kind ideas and suggestions. To be honest the best way to do it is DG4ODBC or DG4MSQL. All other solutions need manual interaction.
The gateways DG4ODBC and DG4MSQL are independant from the Oracle database and also from the SQL Server location. In a worst case scenario you have an Oracle database on machine A, the gateway on machine B and the SQL Server on machine C.
Gateways were built to exactly do what you want. As you have access to the Oracle database the only part you need to define within the Oracle database is a db link. If you specify the full tns connect identifier there is even no need to edit the tnsnames.ora file.
Even if you excluded the gateway in your last sentence the best solution would be the gateway.
Another option you can use is the SQL Server linked server mechanism. It allows you to link another server using OLEDB driver. In your case you can then link the Oracle db into your SQL Server and then insert/update/delete and select Oracle tables from the SQL Server. Using now a trigger will replicate the data immediately to the Oracle db. -
Migrating Functions that return TABLE from SQL Server to Oracle
I have some functions in SQL Server that return a TABLE datatype. When these functions are moved to Oracle 9i using Migration Workbench, they give compilation errors. In the migrated function it says that the DDL stmt is passed to the ddl file, but the table is not created. I checked the ddl stmt for temporary tables and it is wrong. Its a create table stmt with no size for varchars and we can't even edit these stmts in the workbench.
Also the migrated function has the table name for return type, which doesn't works in Oracle. Oracle needs a datatype to be returned from Oracle.
How do we return a table from a function?Yes.
If you do not enclose the object names (table/view/index etc) in double-quotes, they are stored in uppercase format in the data dictionary.
If you enclose them in quotes, they are stored in the same case ans you entered. As such, while accessing such objects, you need to tell Oracle not to convert the names to uppercase, hence the requirement to supply the names in quotes.
