Problem in servlet compilation

I explain the full senario:
I have JavaWebServer1.1.3 installed on my PC. In the servlets directory I have created a folder named exam' and inside it another subfolder 'html' . In html folder all java files contain ' package html' as the top line. I have compiled all the files inside this folder successfully with all classfiles in the same folder. in exam folder all the java files contain 'package exam' & 'include exam.html' as the top two lines. The java files in this folder contains object of classses defined in html folder files. But when i compile the files here a error message comes ' cannot resolve symbol 'Xxx' where xxx is class defines in java files of html folder.
why i am getting this error????

copile ur classes with
\exam> javac -d . html\*.java
and skip include java.html

    At the time of compilation gives error message "import javax.servlet.* is not a recognize package.You have to include servlet.jar or j2ee.jar in the classpath when compiling.
    My JDK is :-j2sdk1.4.2_04
    My Java Enviorment is:- Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_04-b05)Why are the versions of your JDK and Java runtime environment different? Why are you not using Java 5 to compile and run everything?
    Class Path=C:\j2sdk1.4.2_04\lib;C:\j2sdkee1.2.1\lib\j2ee.jar;C:\JSDK2.0\libIf this is an environment variable, it should be "classpath", not "Class Path" with a space in between.

  • Servlet Compilation Problem !

    Hi,
    I am just starting to learn servlets and I got problem in compiling them. I got compilation error in
    import javax.servlet.*;statement. Seems that the compiler cannot find the servlet package. I got J2EE 1.4 beta installed on my machine but there is no servlet.jar package. I am using J2SDK 1.4.1_02, J2EE 1.4 beta and Tomcat 4.1.24.
    Can anyone help me with my servlet compilation problem?
    Thanks in advance!
    Josh

    servlet.jar is here :
    <tomcatdir>\common\lib
    add it to your compiler classpath

  • SERVLET COMPILATION ERRO

    HI everyone,
    i get a very weird compilation error when trying to compile any servlet in a J2SDK v 1.4.2_03.
    It is a very weird error and i only get it when i try to compile servlets on a machine that uses WIN2000 Server OS. I have a different machine that uses WINXP and the same version JSDK and i have never encountered such an error at compilation time.
    The error i get is:
    ViewServlet.java:1 : package javax.servlet does not exist
    import javax.servlet.*;
    I do import this package though. What do you think might be the problem???

    Duffymo is right. If the error message is "ViewServlet.java:1 : package javax.servlet does not exist" then it is a classpath problem with the compiler.
    It may be that you have CLASSPATH set on your old machine, and not on this one, causing it to fail.
    You need to add a jar file with the javax.servlet.* classes into your classpath - preferably using the command line switch if compiling via javac.
    One version of this file is distributed with Tomcat and is found in TOMCAT_HOME/common/lib/servlet.jar
    Also, from Java1.4 onwards, Tomcat has trouble finding servlets that are in the "default" package (ie not in a package) As a matter of course, all your java classes should now be in a package.

  • Problem with a compiled program

    Hello,
    I have a problem with a compiled program on labview 6i.
    This program used a serial port (COM1 or COM2).
    During the launching of the ".exe ", a fatal error occurs.
    Here this error:
    => APPLICATION caused an invalid page fault in

  • Image reading problem in servlet

    Image reading problem in servlet
    I am reading an image in servlet and writing it to ServletOutputStream
    The following code works fine unless I change the size of the byte array (for increasing download speed) from 8 to something like 128 or any other higher value
    If I change the value of byte array size the image does not get downloaded properly, I mean the quality of the image changes, it does not looks like the original imageURL url = new URL("http://www.mysite.com/images/img1.jpg");
    URLConnection con = url.openConnection();
    con.setUseCaches(false);
    BufferedInputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(con.getInputStream());
    BufferedOutputStream out = new BufferedOutputStream(response.getOutputStream());
    byte b[] = new byte[8];
    while(in.read(b) != -1)
         out.write(b);
         out.flush();
    out.close();
    in.close();what do I change
    byte array size
    or use the constructor of BufferedInputStream with 2 parameter
    or use the constructor of BufferedOutputStream with 2 parameter
    or use flush outside while loop or what else

    Change your while loop to:
    int count;
    while((count = in.read(b)) != -1)
         out.write(b, 0, count);
         out.flush();
    }The penultimate time read is called, it may not fill the entire byte array. You only want to write out however much was read into the array.
    For better performance, you should move the flush() outside of the loop too. BufferedOutputStream will flush automatically when its internal buffer is full.

  • JSP and Servlet compilation problem

    I am getting strange errors whilst compiling this simple-tag class for JSP. I know I need to install the Java Servlet API.
    I have been to the sun website and downloaded something called:
    JavaTM Technology & Web Services
    Java Web Services Developer Pack Download
    It was an .exe program, it found my installation of j2se (or jdk).
    Is there anything else I need to do? Or have I downloaded the wrong file?
    Here is the class:
    import javax.servlet.jsp.*;
    import javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.*;
    public class SimpleTag extends javac.seervlet.jsp.tagext.TagSupport
    public int doStartTag() throws JspExcption
         try
    pageContext.getOut().print("Welcome to my Web site.");
    catch (Exception e)
    throw new JspTagExcpetion(e.getMessage() );
    return SKIP_BODY;
    Here is the errors:

  • Servlet Compile problem

    I am trying to compile a java servlet in a Win2000 prof
    My home drive is d:\, because I have another drive c:\, that has Win95.
    I recently downloaded JDK1.3.1_02 and J2EE1.3.1. I followed the instructions carefully. My env are
    J2EE_HOME=d:\j2sdkee1.3.1
    JAVA_HOME=d:\jdk1.3.1_02
    PATH=D:\WINNT\system32;D:\WINNT;D:\WINNT\System32\Wbem;d:\jdk1.3.1_02\bin;d:\j2sdkee1.3.1\bin;d:\j2sdkee1.3.1\lib;
    (I am aware that lib is not required here in the PATH)
    I am able to compile a simple java program. However I am not able to compile the following servlet program. I am getting the error
    package javax.servlet does not exist
    import javax.servlet.*;
    and few more errors(which is basically related to the non-availability of the package)
    Please help me and thanks for your time.
    The complete source code is
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    public class Courses extends HttpServlet {
         public void doPost(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp)
              throws ServletException, java.io.IOException {
    resp.setContentType("text/html");
    java.io.PrintWriter out = resp.getWriter();
    out.println("<html><head>");
    out.println("<title> Trident </Title></head>");
    String values[];
    values = req.getParameterValues("Name");
    String name = " ";
    if (values != null) {
    name = values[0];
    else {
    name = "Friend";
    out.println("<b> Dear " + name+",here are the course details </b>");
         out.println("</html>");
         out.flush();

    I am trying to compile a java servlet in a Win2000 prof using jdk 1.4.0 and I got the same message - javax.servlet does not exist.
    I have apache tomat 4.0 installed on my machine and my classpath is
    .;d:\jtest;c:\Program_Files\Apache_Tomcat_4.0\common\lib\servlet.jar;c:\s2jdk1.4.0_01\bin;
    I compile the servlet program in d:\jtest\HelloServlet.java:
    javac -classpath c:\program_files\apache_tomcat4.0\common\lib\servlet.jar HelloServlet.java
    I am not sure why I got the javax.servlet does not exist message.
    Can you help?

  • Servlet Compile problems

    I'm trying to add to and online application developed in jsp. there is no way to contact the person who originally made the project. When I compile the java source code and replace the old class files and go to the webpage, i get the error "This Application is not currently available." I'm not sure what version the app was originally compiled in. if i am using a different version, would i get this error or is it from something else. Also, is there anyway to check what version it was originally compiled in?
    thanks

    Check out the web.xml file it will give you a clue on what version the project is made
    --> see the below sample web.xml code first line it indicates that
    the dtd version is 2.3 which means the j2ee version is 1.3
    if its 2.4 j2ee version 1.4
    if its 2.5 javaee version is 5.0

  • A problem with servlets with  WebLogic 4.5.1 SP11

              Hello,
              We have developed a client that connects to servlets in WebLogic 4.5.1. Some of the servlets use sessions to store data, and they receive some parameters from the client to retrieve information from a database.
              When we use WebLogic 4.5.1, everything works fine. However, when we upgrade it to Service Pack 11, we find a problem. If we make a servlet that receives some parameters, but it does no use sessions, everything is correct. If we make a servlet that does not receive any parameter, and we use sessions, we find no problem either. But if we make a servlet that receives parameters and uses sessions within the doPost() method, there is an exception when we call the method Request.getSession(true).
              I would thank any help about this point, since I'm not sure if this is the result of a bug, or if there is a new parameter that we have to set in the file weblogic.properties, or any other reason.
              The code of our servlet is as simple as follows:
              public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException {
                   ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(request.getInputStream());
                   String arg = null;
                   String arg2 = null;
                   String arg3 = null;
                   try{
                        arg = (String)in.readObject();
                        arg2 = (String)in.readObject();
                        arg3 = (String)in.readObject();
                   }catch(Exception e){
                   // Get the session and the counter param attribute
                   HttpSession session = request.getSession(true);
              // WE GET THE EXCEPTION AT THIS POINT.
                   Integer ival = (Integer) session.getValue("simplesession.counter");
                   if (ival == null)
                        // Initialize the counter
                        ival = new Integer(1);
                   else
                        // Increment the counter
                        ival = new Integer(ival.intValue() + 1);
                   // Set the new attribute value in the session
                   session.putValue("simplesession.counter", ival);
                   // Output data
                   ObjectOutputStream out = new ObjectOutputStream(response.getOutputStream());
                   out.writeObject(ival);
                   out.close();
              On the other hand, the client invokes the serlvets using the following code:
              public int servletClient(String usuario,String password) {
                   int numero = 0;
                   try{
                        // Input parameters

                        int numObjects = objs.length;
                        for (int x = 0; x < numObjects; x++) {

  • Urgent Solution needed--Problem in JSP compilation with JDK 1.5 and JDK 1.6

    Hi,
    I m using JDK 1.5 and Tomcat 5.0 the problem is that after starting server when I m going to access my application at that time instead of displaying HomePage it directly display the blank page on screen.
    After analyzing tomcat log I have found that there was a problem with JSP page compilation.
    The exception logged in Tomcat Log is given below
    An error occurred at line: 1 in the generated java file
    The type Collection is not generic; it cannot be parameterized with arguments <? extends E>

    After getting this kind of error I have analyzed my code furhter then I came to know that there was problem with static include tag.
    In my jsp page I have used following line which is the main cause of error
    <%@ include file="top.jsp" %>If I ommit this line then it is working properly.
    Instead of static include I have used jsp:include also.
    Still I m getting same problem.
    We have to migrated from JDK 1.5 to 1.6 and Tomcat 5.0.28 to 6.0.14, still same problem is there.
    We have tried a lot but didnt get success to overcome this problem.
    If anybody having any solution then ur each reply will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance..........!!!!!!!

    Hi "mshanu" and "amit" Thanks for ur replies Here I m posting the code of "top.jsp"........!!!!
    <%@ page errorPage="errordisplay.jsp"%>
    <table cellpadding="0"
           cellspacing="0"  height=50 width=780>
           <tbody>
             <tr class="header">
               <td class="logo"><IMG SRC="assets/Logo.gif" BORDER=0 ALIGN=top></td>
               <td align="right"><span class="applicationtitle"><%@ include file="/contents/logo.htm" %></span><br>
               <span class="companyname"><%@ include file="/contents/companyname.htm" %></span></td>
             </tr>
            </tbody>
    </table>To include top.jsp I have tried
    <jsp:include page="top.jsp" flush="true">
    </jsp:include>
             AND
    <%@ include file="top.jsp"%>but none of this worked.
    If I remove the include then It is working properly.
    But I need inluded file too so that I am wondoring for the solution.
    This problem seems very wiered to me. I dont know why it is happening.
    This problem is started only when I used the TOMCAT 6.14.
    Is it the bug of TOMCAT 6.14 or What somebody Plz help.
    I got stuck here.........!!!!!!!!!!
    It doesn't seem any problem with top.jsp. As per my thinking the problem is there in include due to that it doesn't compile the JSP page in Tomcat 6.0.
    Earlier I am having same code running on the Tomcat 5.0.28 and JDK 1.5.0.
    But problem occured when I have used Tomcat 6.x...!!

  • Problems running servlet due to missing classes?

    Hi everyone,
    I am doing a project which requires me to convert a java coding into a servlet. This java coding I am working on is some kind of location based service which tracks people (receiving an argument of a string as IP). It imports an external SDK called Ekahau SDK (some off the shelve product). Now I wish to convert it into a servlet so that the function that the java coding performs can be run from a webpage i created.
    I have previously posted a thread on this forum called "Converting java coding into servlets?" when I had trouble compiling the servlet. Now that I could compile the servlet already, I still have problems running the servlet from my browser.
    The webserver I am using is Apache Tomcat. Previously I was trying Apache HTTP server but since now I need to use servlet, I have shifted to Tomcat instead. I have been getting these "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:" when running the servlet from the browser. From the previous thread, I got suggestions from the replies saying that I need to put the jar files I need into my "C:\Tomcat\webapps\try\WEB-INF\lib" directory. I have been looking for the missing jar files from the internet and putting them into my "C:\Tomcat\webapps\try\WEB-INF\lib", but each time after adding a new jar file, I get another new "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:". Are the missing jar files really the problems? Cause it seems a bit weird to me that I need some many jar files which I dont even know why I need them for.
    The HTTP status 500 error look like this:
    description
    The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request.
    exception
    javax.servlet.ServletException: Servlet execution threw an exception

    Here are the series of jar files I have been looking from the internet to add them into my "C:\Tomcat\webapps\try\WEB-INF\lib" directory:

    2) org/apache/log4j/Logger
    3) org/apache/commons/lang/Validate
    4) org/apache/excalibur/configuration/CascadingConfiguration

                         device.addLocationEstimateListener(estimateListener);
                         device.addStatusListener(statusListener);
                         device.setTrackingParameter("EPE.LOCATION_UPDATE_INTERVAL","6000");
                         device.setTracking(true);
                         // Wait until user inputs something. When he/she does, stop tracking and quit application
                         //BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
                         //in.readLine();
                         // Stop tracking and disconnect from the positioning engine:
                         device.setTracking(false);
                         PositioningEngine.disconnect();
                   return 1;
    }

    Well, it's kind of logical that as you put more jar files (classes) in Tomcat, it changes the error to ask for the classes (inside a jar) it cannot find.
    There was a good class->jar finder on the internet some years ago, but i don't remember the address. Try looking for that and search all the missing classes (NotDefined) and their correspondig jar files.
    Good Luck!

  • Problem in servlet

    Hi,
    I m new to j2ee
    Plz help me
    Whenever i run the servlet on eclipse it shows the error on the class name,
    The error is below
    The serializable class LoginForm does not declare a static final serialVersionUID field of type long
    Some people said that on http://www.java.nnseek.com/search.php?q=serialVersionUID I can find about this problem. But this is a news conferences and I haven't time to find it.

    As stated, this is a warning that you can safely ignore, if you choose to do so.
    serialVersionUID is meant for version maintenance in case you actually serialize objects.
    Eclipse is only reminding you that it thinks it is a good practice to have one.
    You can disable those specific warnings in the compiler preferences of your IDE.

  • Servlet compilation - where to find the class files ?

    Hi !
    I am new to servlets and I have just downloaded Tomcat 4. I think that a servlet has to extend the HttpServlet class and throws a ServletException exception, right ? But where can I find these classes for Tomcat (I think that these don't ship with it !). I tryed to fix the problem by downloading these classes for JSDK but the Tomcat examples (which I could run) did not compile !...
    It is perhaps a silly question, but could someone help me out ?
    Thank you

    There is a package called servlet 2.3 wich contains all the classe you need to create servlets, you can download it from
    http://java.sun.com/products/servlet/download.html

  • Urgent : Problem with Servlet Filters in Weblogic6.1

    Hi,
    We have developed an application using Tomcat4.1.24 with Weblogic6.1 Service Pack2.
    Now we are removing the Tomcat and moving the web layer into weblogic. We have implemented Servlet Filters and Listeners.
    When I converted .jar and .war files into .ear file and deployed into Weblogic6.1. But that application is not deploying. I found that Weblogic6.1 does not support Filters and Listeners from Servlet2.3.
    When I tried to deploy in the Weblogic6.1, it is giving the error as " java.lang.reflect.UndeclaredThrowableException".
    Could somebody please give me a solution how my filters and listeners can make working with weblogic6.1.
    Is there any solution.. My application is successfully working with Weblogic8.1. But I want the solution in weblogic6.1. It would be great if somebody can give me solution how to make Filters n Listeners working with Weblogic6.1.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Prasanna,
    Thank you for the timely reply.
    I have already done according to the process given in the url which u have given me.
    set and getFilterConfig methods are implemented in my AuthenticationFilter class. But still I could not be able deploy the application and I am not able to get the ServletContext object from Session. When I tried commenting the Filters and Listeners in my web.xml file then my .ear file was successfully deployed but I could not get the ServletContext from Session.
    Below code is from my web.xml:
    <filter>
    <filter-name>HRSuthenticationFilter</filter-name>
    <filter-class>com.peramb.hrs.servlet.AuthenticationFilter</filter-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>encoding</param-name>
    <param-value>UTF-8</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </filter>
    <filter-mapping>
    <filter-name>HRSAuthenticationFilter</filter-name>
    <url-pattern>/jsp/*</url-pattern>
    </filter-mapping>
    <filter-mapping>
    <filter-name>HRSAuthenticationFilter</filter-name>
    <servlet-name>action</servlet-name>
    </filter-mapping>
    <listener>
    <listener-class>com.peramb.hrs.servlet.HRSContextListener</listener-class>
    </listener>
    When I comment the above code from web.xml it is deploying with out errors.. but I am not getting the servlet context, hence my application is not working.
    When tried uncommenting the listerns part or Filters part or bothe, My application is deploying with an error on the console. I.e,
    “<Sep 22, 2005 12:20:36 PM IST> <Error> <Management> <Error deploying application
    .\config\mydomain\applications\hrsgb.ear: java.lang.reflect.UndeclaredThrowable

    And the error in Weblogic logs is below:
