"Problem in using JSP Standard Actions"

Hi,
I have a HTML file, which forwards a two parameter values to a JSP.
<html><body>
     <form action="testaction.jsp">
          Name:<input type="text" name="username">
          Id  :<input type="text" name="id">
          <input type="submit">
     </form>
</body></html>and my JSP goes this way
<html><body>
     <jsp:useBean id="person" class="sample.Employee" type="sample.Employee" >
          <jsp:setProperty name="person" property="*" />
     </jsp:useBean>
     Person is:<jsp:getProperty name="person" property="username"/>
     ID is:<jsp:getProperty name="person" property="id"/>
</body></html>The class Employee in the JSP, is a class with getter and setters for user name and employee id.
On entering the data in the HTML page, and on cliking Submit, i am getting this error.
HTTP Status 500
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Cannot find any information on property 'username' in a bean of type 'sample.Employee'Kindly help.
Thanks.

hi,
post your bean file or check
weather
1)
String username = "";
public String getUsername ()
return username;
is correctly coded,
2)
in your jsp before <jsp:useBean
add this code
     <%@page import="sample.Employee" %>3)
optional : just check weather your class is in correct path and code package statement in your sample.Employee.java,

  • How to use jsp:plugin action with type = bean

    Hi everybody,
    I'm new to JSP so it could be a stupid question but I'm wondering how can I use a jsp:plugin action with a type equal to "bean".
    Everyone is talking about type equal to applet so the browser can display this applet but if the type will be a bean so then
    does it mean I can send a javaBean class to the client?
    If yes, then can the javaBean object be executed on a client machine?
    Or maybe I'm wrong. I don't know how it works.
    Please give me a resolution.
    Thanks,
    Rafal.

    its not working.. it shows exception class not found exception.
    i have placed the jsp and applet class in the same folder. but its not working.
    jsp file path : OracleSpatial\mypackage\webmap.jsp
    applet class : OracleSpatial\mypackage\demoApplet.class
    demoApplet class inside package "mypackage".
    code inside JSP is :
    <jsp:plugin type="applet"
    code="mypackage.demoApplet.class" width = "100%" height = "100%" >
    </jsp:plugin>

  • Relatiive Path problem when using JSP:include in web portlet

    Hi
    I am using Oracle Portal 9.0.2, and thus OC4J as the J2EE platform.
    I have created a JSP web portlet that is supposed to inlude a specific static html file, which name is passed to it using a portlet parameter. It works, but I had to create a symbolic link from the applicable J2EE applications's htdocs directory in order to access the content:
    /j2ee/OC4J_Portal/applications/<application>/htdocs/<portlet>/content/
    where /content/ is a symbolic link to another directory altogether.
    I can then access the content from within the portlet with a JSP include tag that looks like :
    docPath = "/htdocs/<portlet>/html/"+doc_path;
    %>
    <br>Include:
    <jsp:include page="<%=docPath%>" flush="true"/>
    I would like to access the content using the JSP include without having to use the symbolic link. Is there a way to do this. I tried using an Apache alias, but that did not work.
    Regards
    Harry

    Hi
    Thanx
    In the end we build up a static URL to the document to be included using:
    String contentLocation="content/";
    docPath = contentLocation+getAdditionalDocPath();;
    out.println("docPath="+docPath);
    String docPathAndName = portletRequest.getParameter("doc_path");
    %>
    <!--
    This java script function calls the display content page with the
    page parameter doc_path (which is in return passes it to the display
    content portlet) in order to retrieve and display specific document
    with a JSP:include tag
    -->
    <script language="JavaScript">
    function generateSectionPath(docName) {
    this.location="http://<%=portletRequest.getServerName()%>:<%=portletRequest.getServerPort()%>/pls/portal/url/page/<%=getPageGroup()%>/content?doc_path="+"<%=docPath%>"+docName;
    <script language="JavaScript">
    function generateRelativePath(docName) {
    this.location="http://<%=portletRequest.getServerName()%>:<%=portletRequest.getServerPort()%>/pls/portal/url/page/<%=getPageGroup()%>/content?doc_path="+docName;
    </script>
    <br>Include:
    <%
    if (portletRequest.getParameter("doc_path") == null) {
    out.println("Error - no doc path specified");
    } else {
    try { %>
    <jsp:include page="<%=docPathAndName%>" flush="true"/>
    <% } catch (Exception e) {
    out.println("Error retrieving document:"+e.toString());
    } // end if
    %>
    Each link from one included HTML file to another becomes a JS function that points the browser to the portal page that includes the portlet that includes thwe JSP that has the include tag to include the html document that is to be displayed.
    The current relative path the the html document (from a predefined root in the file system that is symbolically linked to the same directory as where the including JSP lives) is stored in a session variable, and appended to the document name that is passed to the page.
    If a full document path, as opposed to just the name, is stored, that no appending is done. However, the path is stripped out and stored in a session variable.
    Ths thing is, sometimes a document name, and sometimes a path is passed to the page. Therefore the requirement to know the path when it is not available. A name only will always be passed subsequent to a request for a document with the full path specified, therefore the session variable mechanism works.
    Thanx for the input
    Harry

  • Adding Three Variables using Standard Action?

    I'm attempting to create an expression using a standard action. However I'm finding that it will only allow me to enter two variables (NOT 3) for the total.  (total 1) + (total 2) = data_targetmonthly (as shown below). I need the expression to be: (total 1) + (total 2) + (total 3) x 1.3  = data_targetmonthly.
    Please see attached. Should I be using an equation at this point instead?

    I've been pulling my hair out on this one and I've gone through the Rapid Learning blog, your site and the Lynda.com training as well as searched throughout youtube and the community forums and still can't find the answer I'm looking for.
    I have four text entry boxes in one column where the student enters in an item they'd like to have. Each item goes into its own TEB.
    EX: Ford Mustang
    In the middle column I have a cost for that item that they enter in (variables labeled as: cost_1, cost_2, cost_3, and cost_4). They manually enter it in - there are no preset values that they enter from a list on the screen or that I can have them select from a drop-down menu or anything.
    EX: $300/mo
    In the third column I calculate how much that item would cost over the course of a year.
    EX: $4680
    The Action to determine the $4680 value would be:
    COST_ITEM1: SUM_ITEM1 = COST_1 * 1.3
    Now if I stopped there with one item - EVERYTHING WORKS GREAT! But here is where I run into trouble....
    I want to follow this procedure for all four items and then create a GRAND TOTAL for the entire list using the same formula as above. But when I do so, the value always comes up as "0".
    I had created a variable called "total_1" and the following action:
    12_TOTAL: total_1 = COST_ITEM1 + COST_ITEM2
    and then created the following as well:
    34_TOTAL: total_2 = COST_ITEM3 + COST_ITEM4
    Then I created an action entitled:
    FINAL_TOTAL > YEARLYCOST: 12_TOTAL + 34_TOTAL
    This gives me the "0" total. Again. It's driving me NUTS. Can you point me to where I'm going wrong? Am I correct in lumping together the FINAL_TOTAL figure as 2 totals? I wish there was a simpler way - by adding multiple totals (more than 2) into one variable.

  • Problem with SubmitButton name across screens, which use the same action?

    I am using multiple submit buttons in a single JSP. The problem i am using the same action across 4 screens, and excpet the 1st screen the remaingin 3 screens have BACK & Continue button, in every page the click of back button should take back to the previous screen and continue should submit the options selected to the next screen;
    The problem is i m using to LookupDispatchAction to handle multiple submit buttons, and i m using this for buttons
    <html:submit property="method"><bean:message key="reg.bt.back"/></html:submit>
    In resource bundle reg.bt.back=Back , but i need to pass to the previous screen so how to do that
    Help needed............
    Thanks in Advance

    why can you not store the information you require in the session?
    session.setAttribute("attributename" <attribute object>);
    surely that would negate you needing to pass parameters though the http?
    but otherwise there are several ways to do this, first of all you could simply rewrite the URL, which i'll admit is slightly labour intensive, but it would do the job... of if you really wanted you could put hidden html values throughout your page, and populate them with the data you wish you pass in your request, as long as the hidden inputs are in the <form> there should be no issue here.
    N.B. you are right, i would never suggest using JS for ANYTHING to do with sessions and submitted/retrieving data when you are using a JSP.

  • Problem using jsp:forward in java script

    hi,
    when I use jsp forward tag inside java script i'm getting a problem that
    when the jsp is invoked it is getting forwarded to the page specified in the forward tag, without checking the if conditions. Following code may give you a better idea.
    <html>
    <script>
    function test()
    if(document.f.htemp.value=="true")
    alert("jus");
    else
    var s=document.f.htemp.value;
    alert(s);
    <jsp:forward page="success.jsp" />
    </script>
    <body>
    <form name="f" method=post>
    <input type=text name=htemp value="true">
    <input type=button onclick="test()">
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    please help me,thanks inadvance
    regards
    chandu

    What pgeuens means is that you can't mix javascript and jsp/java code in this way.
    ALL of the jsp/java code gets executed at the server end.
    This produces an HTML page (with embedded javascript) which gets sent to the client.
    The client then runs javascript code in response to events (onLoad, onClick, onChange etc etc)
    So in this case, the jsp:forward will always be executed, because as far as the server is concerned, the javascript is just template text.
    If you WANT to do a conditional forwarding on the server side you do it in java ie (horribly using scriptlet)
    <%
    if (testCondition){
    %>
      <jsp:forward>
    %<
    %>Or if you want to test what the client has entered client side, all you can do is submit the form, or navigate to a URL
    <script>
    function test()
    if(document.f.htemp.value=="true")
    alert("jus");
    else
    var s=document.f.htemp.value;
    alert(s);
    document.f1.action="success.jsp";
    document.f.submit();
    </script>You cannot run JSP code based on your javascript code.
    Java. Javascript. Not the same thing.
    Hope this helps,

  • Problem with SSAS cube reporting action when using pivot filter with cubevalue function

    Hi everyone,
    I have a quite specific problem when I combine cube actions (Reporting Action SSRS) with Excel's cubevalue() function.
    The problem is when I use a pivot filter as a parameter for the cubevalue() function. The action item does not show up in the context menue.
    The cube action works fine when I do it from a "normal" pivot or if I use the cubevalue() function without the reference to a pivot filter (all the parameters in the function are "hard-coded").
    I use SSAS 2012 and Excel 2010.
    Thanks for yor help.
    Gerhard

    Hi everyone,
    I actually figured out a way to solve this problem. I had to use a detour to solve this bug in Excel (at least I think it's a bug).
    What I needed to do: I had to make Excel belive that the filter is actuall hard-coded and does not come from a pivot filter. This was only possible by adding a new calculated measure to the cube that gives back the MEMBER_Unique_Name to the current member
    passed. This "value" can then be used to go back to the cube and select the cubemember function. Here is a small example.
    This is the cube member:
    CREATE MEMBER CURRENTCUBE.[Measures].[RegCompBranNameKey] AS
    [Company Branch].[Reg - Comp - Bran Name].CurrentMember.Properties("MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME", TYPED),
    VISIBLE = 0 ;
    And this is then done in a hidden Excel cell:
    =CUBEMEMBER("Metrics";
     IF(RIGHT(CUBEVALUE("Metrics";<PivotFilter>;"[Measures].[RegCompBranNameKey]");5)="[ALL]";"[ALL]";
      RIGHT(CUBEVALUE("Metrics";<PivotFilter>;"[Measures].[RegCompBranNameKey]");LEN(CUBEVALUE("GlobalMetrics";<PivotFilter>;"[Measures].[RegCompBranNameKey]"))-57)
    I had to use the UniqueName property because I have a combined filter. That's also the reason for this truncation and also useing the last part of it. If you just have a straight key you more easily use it.

  • Adobe X PDF files converted to jpg, edited and converted back to PDF have ragged, unclear text.  I didn't have this problem with Acrobat 9 standard.  What is the remedy for this.  If this is the best I can expect, I won't be able to use X standard.

    I can't imagine any worse workflow than converting to JPEG to edit text, then back to PDF. Text in a PDF is a vector thing, smooth at all resolutions. And JPEG is made for photos. EVERY conversion to JPEG and back loses quality but how much loss there is will vary.
    If you must go to an image format, try PNG.

  • Problem when using a new class "File" in JSP

    I'm using Weblogic 4.52sp2 under Solaris 2.6 with JDK 1.2.1_04. I've got a problem with a JSP that uses a commercial bean which contains a specific "File" class. This class has its own package: com.jspsmart.upload.File. While compiling, Weblogic raises an exception:
              Fri Mar 09 14:41:38 CET 2001:<I> <ServletContext-Servlets> weblogic.servlet.JSPServlet: Generated java file: /data/html/compiledJSP/_jspsmartupload/_jsp/_sample2.java

              /data/html/compiledJSP/_jspsmartupload/_jsp/_sample2.java:46: Ambiguous class: java.io.File and com.jspsmart.upload.File
              f = new File("/data/html/jspsmartupload/jsp/sample2.jsp");
              I looked at the .java generated file but it seems that everything is OK: f is a java.io.File
              public class _sample1 extends weblogic.servlet.jsp.JspBase implements weblogic.servlet.jsp.StaleIndicator {
              // StaleIndicator interface
              public boolean _isStale() {
              java.io.File f = null; long lastModWhenBuilt = 0L, lastMod = 0L;
              f = new File("/data/html/jspsmartupload/jsp/sample1.jsp");
              lastModWhenBuilt = 984144952000L;
              lastMod = f.lastModified();
              if (!f.exists() || lastMod > lastModWhenBuilt) return true;
              return false;
              We can't neither change the bean (no sources) nor Weblogic JSP engine (of course). Has anyone a solution ?

    i think you should try this
              f = new java.io.File("/data/html/jspsmartupload/jsp/sample1.jsp");

  • I want to make a chatroom using jsp, and have some problem, Help!

    I want to build a chatroom using jsp and client using plain html, so i need every client could have a constant connection with the web server and will receive messages realtime. But i got 2 problems.
    First, how can i turn my buffers off so that messages can get to the client the time it is meant to be. I added
    <@page buffer="none">
    but seems that it takes no effect, any tricks here? thx
    Second, I want every user could have a constant conn. with server but i dont want my server to waste resources on those connection that has already been disconnected.so is it possible to stop executing JSP pages once client has diconnected.Since i found that it will throw no exception writing to the client even if the connection is disconnected in JSPs.
    Thanks!!!!!

    By theway, i'm using TOMCat 5.0 as my JSP container.
