Problem integrating EMC CX3-20 to Sun T5220 server - Wrong partition?
Hi All,
I have a problem integrating the EMC CX3-20 to Sun Sparc Enterprise T5220 server.
In the EMC, two LUNs were created. 1.6TB and 10G were allocated respectively. They were represented by emcpower0a and emcpower1a in Solaris 10.
I'm wondering why the format -> partition command shows different information for the two LUNs.
The partition command on emcpower0a shows the "total disk sector available". But the command on emcpower1a shows "the total disk cylinder available"
I can't use the the disk emcpower0a in Veritas because slice 2 (s2) was not displayed when the command "vxdisk list" is executed. It show "emcpower0" instead of "emcpower0s2".
Can someone let me know how to solve this problem? Appreciate your help. Thanks.
Regards,
Ryan

This is related to the size of the 1.6 TB device. The different disk label you are getting is the newer EFI disk label, which Solaris requires on all devices larger than 1 TB. SunSolve doc 216611 explains the differences between the older VTOC label and the EFI label, and links to the VxVM 4.1 Release Notes for Solaris:
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/275690.htm
Veritas began support for EFI-labelled devices with VxVM 4.1, for Solaris 10 only, but you must be on Sol 10 since you're on a 5220.

I've managed to resolve this issue after realising
i've missed out a very critical step. Copying of the
physical mailboxes over to the new server.Yes, that's an important step....
>
I've however hit another issue with the activation of
SSL encryption on the v6.2 messaging server.
the current setup is as follows:
1) Applications installed locally:
- Sun Messaging v6.2 server
- Sun Directory Server 5.2 2005Q4 ( For config store
of messaging server)
- Administration Server 2005Q4
User/groups store is located at a existing Iplanet
v5.2 Directory Server.
3) Service account for Messaging Server v6.2:
uid=mail gid=mail
4) Service account for local directory and admin
server: root
Problem faced:
- I've used the cert wizard from the admin console to
generate a cert request and to install the cert
generated from the CA.
- I've also added the CA cert of the CA that has
generated my server cert.
- Next, i've tried enabled SSL encryption, specifying
the use of my newly added server cert. I've save the
settings before exiting from the admin console.
- However, when i login to the admin console to check
the settings again. SSL encryption is now unchecked.
- I've also facing problem stopping and starting
services using the admin console. Especially after
specifying the SSL ports to use for the imap, pop and
http services.
- When i was finally able to restart the services,
the system did not listen on the specified SSL ports.
It seems that my 'Enable SSL' setting also resets
whenever i exit from the admin console.
Greatly appreciate any help on this. Thanks in
advance.I suggest using configutil instead of the Console.
./configutil -o <setting to be changed> -v <new value>
Console is old and pretty flaky. It's going away in the next version. -
Problem loggong in as admin in Sun Application server 8.0
When I log in as admin by typing http://localhost:4848/asadmin,I get the following message
HTTP Status 400 - Invalid direct reference to form login page.
Description -The request sent by the client was syntactically incorrect (Invalid direct reference to form login page).
When I run a port scanner program I get a server on port 4848 as expected.
So i cannot figure out the problem .Please Help Me

Problem running a sample application in sun app server PE 8
Hi,
I am trying to run the petstore application with oracle 9i. It's a demo application that comes with app server. I set the classpath in the app server to the oracle driver files. I am able to deploy it successfully. But, when I run it it gives me this error:
java.sql.SQLException: Error in allocating a connection. Cause: Class name is wrong or classpath is not set for : oracle.jdbc.xa.client.OracleXADataSource
I am using oracle thin driver.
Rgds,
shipf1Yes, I am deploying the application as an ear.You would need to configure the JAR as a module within the EAR. If it is required only by a web app, you could add it to the WEB-INF/lib for the web app.

JMS problem with Sun Application Server 8.2
Hi!
I've just started trying JMS and found a problem.
I set a connection factory called "QueueConnectionFactory" in the Sun Application Server Admin Consol.
After this I test this code:
import javax.jms.*;
import javax.naming.*;
public class Sun_JNDI
public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception
Context jndiContext = null;
System.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial","com.sun.enterprise.naming.SerialInitContextFactory" );
System.setProperty("java.naming.factory.url.pkgs","=com.sun.enterprise.naming");
System.setProperty("java.naming.provider.url","localhost:1024");
jndiContext = new InitialContext();
Object O = jndiContext.lookup("QueueConnectionFactory");
System.out.println(jndiContext);
in result I got this long Exception message:

So I tested this code under Netbeans5 and I don't where to find jar file contains the class: com.sun.messaging.jms.ra.ResourceAdapter
Other time I tryied to lookup this URL: "java:comp/env/jms/QueueConnectionFactory"
The result was: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException
I know it is a small code example but if I'm not able to solve this problem I can't go on with JMS.
I would be glad by any help.

SandorHello
In my code it looks like that:
1: System.setProperty("com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory", "iiop://localhost:3700");
2: Context ctx = new InitialContext();
3: TopicConnectionFactory factory = (TopicConnectionFactory)ctx.lookup("jms/DailyDestinationFactory");
4: TopicConnection connection = factory.createTopicConnection();
5: TopicSession session = connection.createTopicSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
6: Topic topic = (Topic)ctx.lookup("jms/DailyBean");
7: TopicPublisher pub = session.createPublisher(topic);
8: TextMessage msg = session.createTextMessage();
9: msg.setText("NewMessage");
10: pub.send(msg);
and it work with Sun App Server 8.2. -

Integrating Sun App Server with WebSphere MQ
Hi,
I am using Sun App server V8.1 . I also have a websphere MQ v5.3 installed in my system. I want to integrate this MQ with the App server.
I created a queueManager and a Queue in MQ and using the JMSAdmin console of the Mq, i created jndi lookup resources using INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY=com.sun.jndi.fscontext.RefFSContextFactory
In the application server side, i created a Resource adapter using the command:
create-resource-adapter-config --property SupportsXA=true:ProviderIntegrationMode=jndi:RMPolicy=OnePerPhysicalConnection:JndiProperties=java.naming.factory.url.pkgs\\=com.ibm.mq.jms.naming,java.naming.factory.initial\\=com.sun.jndi.fscontext.RefFSContextFactory,java.naming.provider.url\\=file\\:D\\:\\MQ:LogLevel=finest mqra
Then i deployed this resource adaptor using the command :
deploy name mqra target server "D:\Sun\AppServer\lib\addons\resourceadapters\genericjmsra\genericra.rar"
Using this resource adapter i created a connection pool, connector resource and an admin object using the commands
create-connector-connection-pool raname mqra connectiondefinition javax.jms.QueueConnectionFactory transactionsupport XATransaction property ConnectionFactoryJndiName=MQQCF mymqpool
create-connector-resource --poolname mymqpool jms/MyMqQCF
create-admin-object raname mqra restype javax.jms.Queue --property DestinationJndiName=RTQueue jms/MyMqQueue
After that, i wrote a java code to lookup these resources and put a message into the queue.
This is the snippet of my java code
InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
QueueConnectionFactory cnxFact = (QueueConnectionFactory)ic.lookup("jms/MyMqQCF");
Queue qu = (Queue)ic.lookup("jms/MyMqQueue");
try {
QueueConnection qConn = cnxFact.createQueueConnection();
QueueSession qSess = qConn.createQueueSession(false,Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
QueueSender qSend = qSess.createSender(qu);
TextMessage msg = qSess.createTextMessage();
msg.setText("1");
qSend.send(msg);
qConn.close();
I am getting an exception in the line, QueueConnection qConn = cnxFact.createQueueConnection();

update:
So to avoid this problem I added spring.jar to the server classpath. that got rid of this message but then it started complaining that its missing struts2 core jar..i added that in server classpath as well...I did same for 4 other files and in the end it said 'bean for xwork has already been initialized' (because all these jars are in the application as well).
So I am stuck. if I add all jars to server classpath..it says beans have already been initialized. If I take out the jars from server classpath then it says that stuff is missing (eg. contextLoader.properties missing - orig post)
again, all this goes away when I restart the server..so i am just trying to avoid having to restart server every code change. -
Question about Sun Sparc T5220 server
Hi all,
I have a Sun Sparc T5220 server with solaris 10 attached to another sun solaris server through its SER port. I can manage the T5220 server by the command "tip" from the other server. There is not any display device attached to the T5220. I would like to know if there is any way i can manage the T5220 server through GUI? is VNC possible?
Thank you!Use the NET MGT port for remote gui. See here for more info:

HTH -
We recently upgraded our prod and test servers (middle tier) to Sun T5220's each with 8 procs which have 8 cores per proc. Apache/Java sees that as having 64 CPUs and configures a garbage collection thread for each. Since we have around 10 test and dev instances for the HRMS the apps instances alone, (we also have several Financials instances on the same server), it was kicking off over 640 threads of garbage collection! Needless to say the contention was overloading the server causing major hassles. We have since updated each $CONTEXT_FILE ADJREOPTS and ADJRIOPTS settings to only kick off 2 threads per instance. This has helped, but we still have issues, especially when running adadmin or adpatch and if we give it more than 8 workers. Has anyone else seen this, and if so, have you had any other solution(s)?
We are also seeing strange behavior with FNDSM. Unlike the production server, which has much less load in some respects, on the test sever, each apps instances instance of FNDSM is restarting several times a day for no apparent reason and leaving many defunct child processes. We do see a slight hangup in the tnsping to the FNDSM_<server> listener every so often, but never anything long enough that it should be an issue. We also have multiple NICs on the box, but again, that has never been an issue before.
Anyone else out there using Suns T5220s? Anyone else having any issue(s) with Apache/Java and / or FNDSM?
thanks,
-mikeIt appears to be a known issue for the Niagara chips:
Oracle Applications Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.0.4) for Solaris Operating System (SPARC)
http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=402312.1
Java Performance on UltraSPARC T1/T2 (Niagara) processors
There is a known issue with the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 5 on Sun's Niagara processor, a one-socket 8 core processor that can run 32 threads in parallel. As the JRE treats the Niagara system as a server class machine, the server appears to the JRE to be a 32-CPU machine and each Java Virtual Machine (JVM) spawns 32 garbage collector threads. Also, newer chips support a larger number of threads (for example, the Niagara 2 will appear as a 64-way server). -

Problem : App works with Sun App server 8.0 but fails with 8.1
Hi All
I am experiencing some strange problem with executing my JSF application with Sun App Server.
I have an EAR deployed on Sun Application Server 8.0 and 8.1.
Strangely it works quite fine with 8.0 but fails with 8.1.
In my JSP page ..I have a dummy component whose getter method is used as a "FormLoad" event of the page.
<h:form id="imageForm" enctype="multipart/form-data">
<h:messages showDetail="true" />
<table width="980" border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bordercolor="#A9B8C2">
<tr>
<td>
<h:inputHidden value="#{Screen1.initializeService}"/>
<h:selectOneListbox styleClass="style2" id="cmbMiddleArea" immediate="true" value="#{Screen1.selectedMiddleArea}">
<f:selectItems value="#{Screen1.middleAreaList}" />
</h:selectOneListbox>
In my backing bean i have ..
public String getInitializeService() {
..... Retrieve all the data from DB to initialize all the components on the JSP page
.......setMiddleAreaList......
.......setSelectedMiddleArea.....
........set the values of the individal component...
I am retrieving all the data from DB in this getter method and intializing the components on the JSP page.
I have also checked the code generated for JSP by both the servers.I am posting the code here for reference although
i did not find any significant difference between the two...
For Server 8.0
private boolean jspxmeth_h_inputHidden_0(javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.JspTag jspxth_h_form_0, PageContext jspxpage_context)
throws Throwable {
JspWriter out = jspxpage_context.getOut();
// h:inputHidden
com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.InputHiddenTag jspxth_h_inputHidden_0 = (com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.InputHiddenTag) jspxtagPool_h_inputHidden_value.get(com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.InputHiddenTag.class);
jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.setPageContext(_jspx_page_context);
jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.setParent((javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.Tag) jspxth_h_form_0);

int jspxeval_h_inputHidden_0 = jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.doStartTag();
if (_jspx_th_h_inputHidden_0.doEndTag() == javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.Tag.SKIP_PAGE)
return true;
jspxtagPool_h_inputHidden_value.reuse(_jspx_th_h_inputHidden_0);
return false;
For Server 8.1
private boolean jspxmeth_h_inputHidden_0(javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.JspTag jspxth_h_form_0, PageContext jspxpage_context)
throws Throwable {
PageContext pageContext = jspxpage_context;
JspWriter out = jspxpage_context.getOut();
// h:inputHidden
com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.InputHiddenTag jspxth_h_inputHidden_0 = (com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.InputHiddenTag) jspxtagPool_h_inputHidden_value_nobody.get(com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.InputHiddenTag.class);
jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.setPageContext(_jspx_page_context);
jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.setParent((javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.Tag) jspxth_h_form_0);
jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.setValue("#{searchBean.initializeService}");
int jspxeval_h_inputHidden_0 = jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.doStartTag();
if (_jspx_th_h_inputHidden_0.doEndTag() == javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.Tag.SKIP_PAGE)
return true;
jspxtagPool_h_inputHidden_value_nobody.reuse(_jspx_th_h_inputHidden_0);
return false;
Now the actual problem is "getInitializeService" method never gets called when i deploy and run the application on Sun App Server8.1
However with Sun App Server 8.0 it woeks perfectly fine.
Can anybody help me in resolving these issues ?
Actually generated JSP code can be referred as ...
For Server 8.0
private boolean jspxmeth_h_inputHidden_0(javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.JspTag jspxth_h_form_0, PageContext jspxpage_context)

return true;
jspxtagPool_h_inputHidden_value.reuse(_jspx_th_h_inputHidden_0);
return false;
For Server 8.1
private boolean jspxmeth_h_inputHidden_0(javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.JspTag jspxth_h_form_0, PageContext jspxpage_context)
throws Throwable {
PageContext pageContext = jspxpage_context;

Sun Application Server 8 response problem
Hi forum. Id installed moths ago SJAS 8 and it woks good. By any reason, Id to uninstall it. But recently I reinstall te server, without any problem, and I can use teh "Start default server" on the Menu Start. But when I try to access the "localhost:8080", the browser stand hanged. And unusually, any browser in my system (netscape,iexplorer,opera,firefox) wont work, even to load any site when the Server is working. The option "Stop default server" dont working too. Id try install SJAS 8.0, SJAS 8.1 and SJAS 8.1 multilanguaje, but with the same results. Even Id try change the HTTP port from 8080 to 8282, but nothing happends. Any idea?
Hi, again. Other details of my installation , The server is SUn Java System Application Server Plataform Edition 8.12005Q1, my machine is an AMD Athlon 1.25Mhz, with 256Mb RAM (Yes, slow for use the server, but it ran without troubles the first time I installed), The JDK is J2SE1.5.0_5 and JRE1.5.0_05. I had read the troubleshotting guide, and the server log register that the server successful finish the start up proccess, and the file domain.xml register correctly the "http-listener" on 8080 port. When I start to search the source of trouble, I remmember that I have the Tomcat 5.5 installed and using the 8080 port, then I uninstall the Tomcat, but the problem persist with the SJAS.

Can't print under Tomcat but no problem under sun application server 8!
Hi,
I am rather puzzle by the fact that a programme written by me using all the print api and printable implementation when being called by the JSF page is capable of being successfullly print out when being deployed under sun application server 8 but got hang or met with no response when the same war file generated by the JSC 2 is being deployed onto Tomcat 5.17 .
Was it due to some missing jar file or api , I really have no idea at all
Any suggestion please ?
ThankHi,
I got rather stupid question to ask regarding the font size.
if I got a font size of 10, I know it is only refering to the height in pixel , my problem start when I need to know , how many characters can I print across in a A4 size paper. The pixel point is 1/72 of an inch, it is vertical .
Is there any formula that I can use to determine how many characters per inch that particular font is supposed to print?
Suggestion that I received is to use trial and error method.
