Problem meeting condition in jsp

Hi,
I have written a small test jsp, which is basically just an input form that allows the user to select a value from a drop down box.
When the form is submitted depending on what value was submitted, I want to display some stocks prices using a specific xml style sheet. The style sheet used is dependant on the choice submitted by the user in the drop down box.
However my problem is that no matter what choice i make, the last condition is always met and the stocks are always displayed using the last xsl style sheet (stocks_short.xsl). None of the conditions in the two if statements are ever met.
I guess this must be something to do with the way I am comparing the request parameters in the if statements? Can anyone please help and let me know what Im doing wrong please?
Code is listed below:
------------------------------------------------------->
<%@ page contentType="text/html" %>
<%
if (request.getParameter("cmbView")== null)
%>
<CENTER>
<H2>User Info Request Form</H2>
<FORM METHOD="GET" ACTION="stocks.jsp">
<select name="cmbView">
<option>pick a display type</option>
<option value="summary">summary</option>
<option value="full">full</option>
</select>
<INPUT TYPE="submit" value="submit form">
</FORM>
</CENTER>
<%
else
%>
<%! String xmlHeader; %>
<%
if (request.getParameter("cmbView") == "summary") <--- this condition is never met
xmlHeader = "<?xml:stylesheet type='text/xsl' href='stocks.xsl' version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>";
else if (request.getParameter("cmbView") =="full") <--- this conditon is also never met
xmlHeader = "<?xml:stylesheet type='text/xsl' href='stocks_long.xsl' version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>";
else <--- this conditon is always met
xmlHeader = "<?xml:stylesheet type='text/xsl' href='stocks_short.xsl' version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>";
%>
<%= xmlHeader %>

Hi,
Do this way;
if (request.getParameter("cmbView") .equals( "summary") )
instead of
if (request.getParameter("cmbView") == "summary")
In the first case you are comparing the objects not the content of the String.Check the docs for the detail.

  • Problem with JavaBeans in JSP.IT'S URGENT!!!

    Hi, i have problems with JavaBeans in JSP.
    In a jsp file( locating in ROOT directory of tomcat 4.0.6 :jakarta-tomcat-4.0.6\webapps\root ) i have this code:
    <jsp:useBean id="paramBean" class="licentza.ParamBean" />
    <jsp:setProperty name="paramBean"
    property="nume"
              value='<%= request.getParameter("numeUser") %>' />
    where ParamBean it's a "bean" class locating in jakarta-tomcat-4.0.6\webapps\examples\web-inf\classes\licentza (licentza is the package i'm using).
    And i get this error:
    Generated servlet error:
    D:\jakarta-tomcat-4.0.6\work\Standalone\localhost\_\dora\intrare2$jsp.java:67: Class licentza.ParamBean not found.
    ParamBean paramBean = null;
    What is the problem?Thank you.

    Hi,
    Put the class file or the package under :jakarta-tomcat-4.0.6\webapps\root\WEB-INF\classes.

  • Problems in developing custom JSP tags

    I have problems in debugging custom JSP tags. Sometimes the doStartTag is not called on tags but the doEndTag is called. I don't know why.
    Thanks.

    Fahr--
    A word of caution -- NetUI did not ship a JSP tag SDK in 8.x, and
    we're making no compatibility guarantees for custom JSP tags written on
    the 8.x release and future releases.
    You can accomplish the same sort of functionality with a combination
    of the <netui-data:getData> tag and JSTL 1.0. This solution would
    probably provide similar functionality and be more future-proof relative
    to JSTL and the NetUI tags currently being developed in Beehive.
    Hope that helps.

    We are in the midst of creating our own JSP tags to work with datasources.
    In an example where you would need to compare two different datasources how would you do this?
    ie.
    <prefix:isGreater dataSource="{pageflow.column1}" dataSourceToCompare="{pageFlow.column2}" />
    How would I evaluate what column2 is since the tag will only resolve one data source
    this.evaluateDataSource();
    Any pointers you can provide would be appreciated, or if there is a library of jsp tags that evaluate objects using datasources already created, that would even be better.

  • Problem in Frame and JSP

    hi all,
    i built an web application and now i want to add a menu using frame in HTML or javascript. The problem is all my JSP pages are data dependant from one another that means sometimes i am sending the data using input boxes and sometimes using HIDDEN values in HTML. Now i tried this followig way to use frame and to send my data to other pages but it is not working can anyone please help me.
    "DOES ANYONE KNOW WHETHER I CAN USE FRAME IN THE JSP PAGE OR NOT"
    LOGIN.HTML
    <form action="startframe.html" method="post">
    <center><h2>Employee Number:</h2></center>
    <center><input type="text" name="emplno" maxlength="4"size="4"></center></br>
    <center><h2>Password:</h2></center>
    <center><input type="password" name="pass" maxlength="6" size="6"></center></br>
    <center><input type="submit" value="SUBMIT YOUR INFO"></center>
    </form>
    </body>
    </html> DATA are GOING FROM LOGIN.HTML TO VARIFYLOGIN.JSP
    Now in between these two i used an HTML file to place a frame so that i can use the frame and the code is:
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <TITLE> </TITLE>
    <frameset cols="15%,85%">>
    <frame name="frame1" src="buttons.html">
    <frame name="frame2" src="varifylogin.jsp?emplno=<%=emplno%> &pass=<%=pass%>" >
    </frameset>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    </BODY>
    </HTML> "DOES ANYONE KNOW WHETHER I CAN USE FRAME IN THE JSP PAGE OR NOT"
    and then it should go to VARIFYLOGIN.JSP which is:
    String empl_no = request.getParameter("emplno");
       String password=request.getParameter("pass");
       Class.forName( "sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver" );
       Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:finalmp" );
       Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
       ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT StaffID,FirstName,LastName,Password FROM StaffDetails");...................................................etc.
    i am getting this error on the RIGHT hand side frame meaning it showing the buttons on the left but this error on the right:

  • Problem with JNDI and JSP in Tomcat

    Hi,
    Basically, what I've done is to use the Tomcat administration web

    Hi,
    First of all, you can find alot of information about this in the forum about jsp's.
    I think a good thing to do is not to put your context tag directly into the server.xml file.
    What you should do is create a context.xml file with the context-tag in it, and put it in the META-INF directory of your .war file. Upon deployment to tomcat5 this file will be extracted from the war, copied to the conf\enginename\hostname directory, and it will be renamed to contextName.xml.
    I think you are developing directly into the webapps directory, and I believe you should avoid that and use the deployment feature of the manager web-app or you should use the deployertool from you ide or standalone ant.
    anyway, for starters try to remove the context tag from the server.xml file as described above, and check out the jsp / jdbc forums for simular problems and answers.
    good luck

  • Problem with Sessions in JSP

    Hi,
    I am working on a JSP based website, where I am facing problem with sessions. The user is asked to login by providing her id and password. If found correct, a bean is created and populated with all her details and placed in session scope. I plan to use the information stored in the bean on other related pages until she logs out.
    <jsp:useBean id="validUser" scope="session" class="UserBean" >
    <c:set target="${validUser}" property="userId" value="${fn:trim(dbValues.UserId)}" />
    <c:set target="${validUser}" property="userName" value="${fn:trim(dbValues.UserName)}" />
    </jsp:useBean>
    <c:redirect url="userHome.jsp" /> The user is presented her homepage - 'userHome.jsp', where she can find various links, like 'Update Profile', 'Pay Registration Fees', 'Book Room' etc. The information stored in the bean is available on 'userHome.jsp'page.
    <A HREF='userHome.jsp'>Home</A>
    <A HREF='editPersonal.jsp'>Update Profile</A>
    <A HREF='registrationFee.jsp'>Pay Registration Fees</A>
    <A HREF='bookRoom.jsp'>Book Room</A>
    <A HREF='logout.jsp'>Logout</A> The problems are:
    1. Whenever user clicks on any of the above mentioned links and moves to any page, the bean comes out as null.
    <%-- Verify that the user is logged in --%>
    <c:if test="${validUser == null}">
    <jsp:forward page="loginForm.jsp">
    <jsp:param name="origURL" value="${pageContext.request.requestURL}" />
    <jsp:param name="errorMsg" value="You must be logged in to access this site." />
    </jsp:forward>
    </c:if> 2. The URL shows an additional jsessionid, which my client doesn't want to see.
    3. On every click on any link, the value of this jsessionid changes.
    What I presume, when I am clicking on different links, my session changes, and so I am seeing a different jsessionid. And since session is changing, therefore the bean is not available in a different session.
    All this works fine with localhost, problem comes into picture, when I upload my pages to the server.
    Puzzled, can anyone help, where am I going wrong? Let me add here, I am new to JSP and hence don't have much resources with me.

    There are several ways sessions can be exchanged between the browser and the server in a j2ee web application.
    1. The default is through cookies. However when the client does not accept cookies, the server appends the session id to the url.
    2. Some servers also facilitate session information exchange using session id in the url even if the client does accept cookies. This is usually ahieved through a setting in some server configuration file.
    You will have to find out why the server in your application is appending the session id to the url.
    Whatever be the case, the server should be able to look up the session from the incoming request (be it from the session id in the url or a session cookie).
    When session information is exchanged through the JSESSIONID in the url, you should ensure that each and every url that goes to the server has this input parameter. To do that all links and form post urls in your servlet/jsp should be treated with a call to encodeURL().
    For example, in a jsp
       <a href = "<%=response.encodeURL("/nextJsp.jsp")%>">Click here </a>
    or
       <form action = "<%=response.encodeURL("/nextJsp.jsp")%>">
       </form>etc.
    ram.

  • Problem with Conditions in a Query

    Hello All,
                 I have the following Condition in My Query.
    Applied Amount Equals to 0.   When I run the Query I receive a message 'No Records Exists with the given conditions'.   But when I remove the condition and place 'Applied Amount' in the Columns Section I see there are numerous records that Have 'Applied Amount' as 0.   What might be the problem?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Check out the zero suppression in your BEx analyser and also make sure that when you have defined conditions then you have to select only Applied Amount Charecteristic rather than all the charecteristics.
    Hope tis helps...
    Assign points if it helps..
    Thanks,
    Gattu.

  • Problem with onload in jsp page

    Hi all,
    I had two jsp pages, a search and a results page. I need to enter some search criteria in the first page and based on that criteria i will be getting the results in the results jsp. Now, when i click the back button in the results page, i need to go to the search page and the values which i entered in the search page needs to be present there. But the problem is i had a javascript function which runs on loading of the search page. This function will set all the values in this search page to empty whenever we go to the search page. I am calling this javascript function as follows in my search jsp page.
    <body onload="setdefaultvalues('<%=name%>');">
    I am having the code for the back button in the results page as follows.
    <INPUT TYPE="button" VALUE='Back' onClick="javascript:history.go(-1);resetvalue(name);" class="button">
    The problem i am facing is whenever i go to the search page by clicking on the back button, the values in the search page are getting empty because of the onload method. There is no way that i can remove this onload method as i require it for setting the values in the search page evrytime i get to that from other modules as it is the main page for my module. So, is there anyway that i can stop this function from executing when i come from the results page or is there any other way that i can store the values in the search page when going from the results page.

    i think you really should have the result page include your search page contents rather than having the user need to click back as you'll end up with all sorts of nightmares in caching & session object management to be honest. if the search page is complex use javascript to hide contents and let the users expand them when they want to re-search.
    however, if you feel you must i would suggest the following:
    in your result page:
    session.setAttribute("userQuery","true"); (you probably actually want to put a container object with the query information in here)
    in your search page you could have something like:
    <body <% session.getAttribute("userQuery")==null { %>onload="setdefaultvalues('<%=name%>');"<% } %>>
    -or-
    <body onload="setdefaultvalues('<%=name%>',<%=session.getAttribute("userQuery")==null?"true":"false"%>);">
    function setdefaultvalues(name,run) { if ( !run ) return;....}
    you'll have to decide when to remove the object though cause once its set its there until the session expires or you remove it.
    hope that helps, good luck!

    Leads me to believe that you're compiling and targeting a java version that your tomcat installation doesn't support. What version of the JDK are you using?

  • PO BAPI Problem in condition types

    Hi,
    I am facing a strange problem in creation of PO through "BAPI_PO_CREATE1".
    In the Item condition internal table, I am passing the condition types.
    The PO is getting created successfully.
    Eg. I pass conditions and their values as follows:
    PB00 : 1000
    ZB00 : 1000
    FRB1 : 1000
    The PO is created successfully and we can check the prices updated properly.
    Now,
    When I create a second PO with the same values, the prices are taken from the last PO and the prices from
    my code(which are passed through BAPI) are added to the last value.
    If I run the program with the same values as above, the PO is created with the values 2000.
    Third time it is 3000 and so.
    The value from the last PO is coming into the new PO.
    Please advise me if anything missing.

  • A problem to display a jsp Using MVC approach

    Hello everybody
    I have got a problem with RequestDispatcher and I would like to get your help.
    I excpect the servlet to display the index.jsp page but the server displays a blank page. web.xml's <servlet> and <servlet-mapping> are set correctly at this TestServlet servlet. what could be the problem?
    my code looks like this:
    import java.io.*;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    public class TestServlet extends HttpServlet{
         public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
                   throws ServletException, IOException {
         String url = "/index.jsp";
         ServletContext context = getServletContext();
         RequestDispatcher dispatcher = context.getRequestDispatcher(url);
                   dispatcher.forward(request, response);     }
    public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)throws ServletException, IOException {
              //doGet(request,response);
    PS: please help me, this step blocks me for several weeks.
    thank you.

    Hello Thomas, thanks for your answer.

    It does happen for Gif-, Jpeg- and Pdf-binaries (other Mime-types I haven't tested yet) and it is IE 7 I am using.
    > Do you have any browser plug-ins - like Anti-Virus scanners that might be interupting?
    There are no relevant (as far as I can tell) plug-ins especially no anti-virus scanners loaded.

    The trace-tool is HttpWatch.
    I think this correlates with the fact that the tab closes right away (i.e. before the stream has been downloaded completly).
    > Can you download attachments in IE from other websites?  There really isn't anything special that SAP is doing in Web Dynpro from a browser side.
    I can download/open Pdfs from SDN for example
    Unfortunately I still haven't got a clue what happens. The code-snipplet producing the response looks like this
    METHOD onactionopen_document .
      DATA: file TYPE zrms_st_file.
      file = wd_this->get_file( ).
      cl_wd_runtime_services=>attach_file_to_response(
          i_filename      = file-filename
          i_content       = file-binary
          i_mime_type     = file-mimetype
          i_in_new_window = abap_true ).
    ENDMETHOD.
    where the type zrms_st_file has three components: binary (type tr_xstring), filename and mimetype (both dstring). Debugging (breakpoint right before method is called) shows that the mimetype is correct.

  • Problem in loading few jsp files

    Hi,
    I am facing problem in loading very few jsp pages. The situation is something like this.
    Server: WebSphere
    I have a top frame and bottom frame.
    When the user keep on clicking the same link in the top frame, not giving time to get loaded in bottom frame,
    on the server the error "Servlet Error: Connection reset by peer: socket write error: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset by peer: socket write error" was coming.
    My bother is not on the server-side. but on the client side.
    On the client side, the html of two requests are getting overlapped and displaying(see at the end for sample output of html). In this HTML, if you observe, you can find the line "Error 500: Connection reset by peer: socket write error
    ". Above to this is the half-content of the previous request and bellow is the actual page need to be loaded. And the output was a merge of actual page with the code of the previous request.
    Is it the problem of Websphere or coding?
    Can you help me resolving this problem?
    thanks
    naveen
    Output HTML (for example):
         Contract Name:</td>
         <td class="Label" ><input type="text" id="contractName"
    size="25" maxlength = "100"></td>
         <td class="Label" >Owner:</td>
         <td class="Label" colspan="2"><select id="owner" class="Label"
    size="1" style="WIDTH:200px">
         <option value="_______________">_____________</option>
         </select></td>
                   </td>
    Error 500: Connection reset by peer: socket write error
    <html>
    <head>
    <title> welcome </title>
    <link rel="STYLESHEET" type="text/css" href="Scripts/SSheet.css">
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
    <!-- This .js script files contains all components, which is used -->
    .... and so on
    </html>

    Hi
    I have Observed that "java.net.SocketException: Connection reset by peer" is caused due to manual malfunction performed by the user in the browser like sending multiple request to the server stopping, moving forward, moving backward when a request is placed to the server and waiting for it to get it done.
    More clearly if the User Selected an option from the browser and send a request to the server and followed by sending another request immediately to the server and by this time Server is processed the first request and is started writing the result to the JSP/Browser (Same client), by this time the 2nd reqest from the same Browser/Client is interrupted the first one and ohhhhhhh..... problem , you got an error "java.net.SocketException: Connection reset by peer".
    If any one could figure out more Please update me too appreciate !
