Problem opening a "xls" file

Good day
I'm having a difficulty opening a .xls file using a Ms Exel 2003.
It prompt a box saying:
The file you are trying to open, 'AA.xls' is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source
before opening the file. Do you wan to open the file now?
If i click Yes. Another pop up will show:
The information you were working on might be lost. Ms. Office excel can try to recover it for you and i checked on the " recover my work and restart Ms.office excel"
A blank Ms.Excel will be shown.
The size of the file shown on the icon are still there but nothing contain in it.
Pls. help.

Hi,
According to this error, this .xls file may be damaged. The following steps might help recover your file:
1. Click the File menu
2. Click Open
3. Locate the file, but do not click the Open button.  Instead, click the drop-down arrow next to the Open button.
4. Click "Open and Repair"
5. In the dialog that pops up, choose "Repair".  If that does not work, try the "Extract Data".
6. Let us know if this works.  If not, we will see what else we can come up with for you.

    When you get the SF Compatibility plug in message something in the installed iWork part is corrupt. You ned to uninstall and install iWork again
    You cannot completely delete iWork by moving the iWork '09 folder to the Trash. Instead, use Yvan Koenig's script:
              •          Go to http://www.box.com/s/00qnssoyeq2xvc22ra4k
              •          Choose public_YK > for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items
              •          Click on uninstall iWork '09.zip, decompress it, open it in AppleScript Editor and click the Run button
    Restart the computer and install from the iWork disc. Do the Software updates too.

    whever i refresh the entire application in the tomact then its been recognizedMaybe you're creating and downloading it asynchronously so that the creation of the file isn't finished yet while you're about to download it.

  • Opening an .xls file and writing data to it....

    Hi ,
    I have written the following simple routine... which is supposed to open a .xls file and some data are written...:
    DECLARE
    application ole2.obj_type;
    workbooks ole2.obj_type;
    workbook ole2.obj_type;
    worksheet ole2.obj_type;
    worksheets ole2.obj_type;

    workbooks := ole2.get_obj_property(application, 'Workbooks');
    workbook:=OLE2.INVOKE_OBJ(workbooks,'Add');
    args:= ole2.create_arglist;
    ole2.add_arg(args, 'c:\example.XLS');

  • Lightroom 1.4 - problem opening up NEF files

    Hi there,
    I've been having problems opening up NEF files in Lightroom 1.4, a message keeps coming up saying that the file is not recognised. I'm using a MacBook Pro and can't get a solution - can someone please advise on the best course of action?
    Thanks!

    >a Nikon D3
    I don't think that one is supported in LR 1.4. The camera was released after LR 1.4 was released. To get support for that camera, either upgrade to LR 2 or convert the NEF files to dng using the free DNG converter that you can download from http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/

  • I am using PSE 9. I had no problem opening my Raw files from my Canon Rebel XT  Now  I have a Rebel 5ti and pse 9 won't reconize the Cr2 files

    I am using PSE 9. I had no problem opening my Raw files from my Canon Rebel XT  Now  I have a Rebel 5ti and pse 9 won't reconize the Cr2 files

    See this faq:
    FAQ: Will Photoshop Elements work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?
    That will explain why each new camera model uses its own raw format. (.CR2 does not indicate a format, only a Canon family of formats).
    The first link tells you what version of camera raw is needed for your camera : https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    You need ACR 7.4
    The second link tells you which ACR versions are supported by Elements versions Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
    PSE9 supports version 6.5
    Further down on that paper, you get links to download the free Adobe DNGconverter for Mac or Win.
    This standalone software can batch convert a whole folder of raw files to the DNG raw file format that your present PSE9 can read.
    Otherwise, you would have to upgrade to version 10 or later.

  • Why can't I open up xls files?

    Why can't I open up xls files? I'm new with the mac so please help?

    Another possibility... If you have an older version of Excel, and the file you are trying to open is a new version with an .xlsx extenstion, then you need a converter to open it. (Sorry, I don't remember where to get it, because it didn't work for the first year that I tried it before I upgraded to Office 2011 at work.) Weird, since I'm able to open them on my iPhone, but not on my iMac. I've asked friends to save as an older version; some know how to use "save as".
    It can also happen cross-platform. If your file is from someone using a new version on a PC, and you don't have the equivalent version on the Mac, it might not open. On the PC, the extension doesn't show, so they may not know what version it is. But when they pen Excel, it will say as it opens.

  • Opening Excel XLS files in Numbers

    I have Mac OS 10.6.2 on my MacBook using Numbers '09.
    A windows excel pc user sent a xls file.
    When I try to open this file on my MacBook with Numbers is get message
    "The document is encrypted and can’t be opened."
    The windows user says the file is not locked/protected/encrypted ...
    I have opened other xls files ok.

    I never got this behaviour (but my correspondants know that I hate …Soft products).
    Maybe it's that the file was built by a recent version of XL which is not deciphered by Numbers.

  • Opening an xls file in Numbers

    Numbers does not properly open an XLSX file but MS Excel for Mac does. I can, however, open the file with Preview and it displays properly. The problem appears to just in formatting the colums as the data appears as dates instead of numbers.

    The first colum "Date" is okay but all other data should be just numbers

  • Problems opening & printing pdf files created on a Mac

    I am at my wit's end! I recently upgraded to a new version of Acrobat and suddenly a lot of my clients could no longer open my pdf files. I uninstalled the latest version of Acrobat and reinstalled an older version (Acrobat 8.1.3). Some clients started being able to open my pdf files but others could not. So I started using the Acrobat Share server and sending links. Some of my clients cannot open those either and many cannot print even if they can open the files that way. I personally also cannot print from the Acrobat Share server. The pdf files print out with all the surrounding graphics and application design elements. I also can't open the pdf files that I created on my Mac using my PC laptop running Vista. I have tried opening and printing both pdf files and the Acrobat Share links from my Mac and my PC laptop running Vista, to no avail.
    I was under the impression that compatibility problems between Macs and PCs were largely a thing of the past. I was also under the impression that the whole point of exchanging pdf files was that pdf files are cross-platform compatible. Not only am I am losing tons of valuable time, I may be losing credibility with my clients (especially since I have an IT background). I desperately need to know what version of Acrobat I should be running on my Mac so that when I scan documents into my Mac, the pdf files that are created are completely 100% compatible with both Mac and PC operating systems regardless of what operating system and what version of Acrobat my clients are running. I also need to be sure that those same pdf files I create on my Mac can be seemlessly printed out from either a Mac or PC regardless of the operating system or Acrobat Reader version. If anyone can help me get to the bottom of this, I will be eternally grateful. Thanks.

    This file downloaded and works fine for me in Preview on both OS X 10.5.7 and 10.4.11 (and opens in Acrobat Pro 9.1.1 and 8.1.5, and the latest version of Reader on both versions of the OS). As expected.
    If you're printing from Acrobat.com by right clicking in the image area and selecting Print, don't. This isn't printing the PDF, it's printing the Flash frame that contains, as you've noticed, buttons and other elements. (Adobe's Mac Flash plugin is notoriously buggy.) Direct your clients to download the file by selecting the download button, not by right clicking and printing.
    Again, your PDF file is fine.
