Problem populating the Pointbase DB (WSDP bookstore example)

Hi,
I'm trying to access a PointBase DB from a WebService, as suggested by Sun's tutorial on this topic (http://java.sun.com/webservices/docs/1.0/tutorial/doc/WebApp13.html#69868).
I have verified that the PB installation works fine on it's own (through the sample code in SampleDatabaseApplication.java), and also that the Tomcat servlet engine provided in the WSDP (WebService Developer Pack) is running OK.
But when I try to populate the DB (as described on the link above: ant create-book-db), nothing much happens (3 rows: "Buildfile: build.xml", "init:" & "create-book-db" are shown, and then it hangs).
I tried to get around this by manually executing the 'books.sql' statements in the PB console, and that works without problem. But when I try to deploy the bookstore example from the WSDP, ant hangs in the same way as mentioned above. The following is written to the (jwsdp_)log:
"Couldn't create bookstore database bean: Couldn't open connection to database: DbcpDataSourceFactory: driverClassName is required"
I checked all setting many times over (the driverClassName is specified in server.xml, so I can't pinpoint what's causing the log entry) and they all seem OK. Please help!

Have you copied the PB client JAR to JWSDP_HOME/common/lib and restarted Tomcat?

Please help me, I am going through the J2EE tutorial (I have the Sun App Server 8 installed on a Win XP Service Pack 2 machine) but am running into problems.

Now I know that creating empty folders is not the solution so if anyone has any ideas as to what is wrong PLEASE tell me. I think there is something I need to add to a configuration file or something. I have re-installed the App Server but I still get the same problems. Thanks for your time!!

I've been working few days on a problem running the Bookstore example from the Java EE Tutorial. When I run the application, I'm redirected from the servlet BookStoreServlet to errorpage.html with the following message: The application is unavailable. Please try later. The tutorial troubleshooting reads: ... a servlet cant retrieve the web context attribute representing the bookstore. This will occur if the database server hasnt been started. But the database server is running (I'm running Derby bundled into NetBeans 6.5). The Glassfish admin console reads:

I solved the problem running the command that is correctly explained in the page 97 of the tutorial:
Ant create-tables
My mistake was that until that day, I was believing that I could do everything inside Netbeans.
For this you explicitly need to use ant.
Then I got some error which I solved fixing the file
C:\Java\JavaEETutorial5\examples\bp-project\ build.properties
( like set correctly the path to the server and so on)

Bookstore example in Servlets chap..trouble going thro the following steps

i successfully connected to the Pointbase database and was able to view the table created.
Now this is with reference to Chapter 11 on Servlet technology. I went through the following steps and i am stuck in Step 9, after which i do not understand the correlation between what is said in Step 10 and what is there while using the deploy tool..
The following are the steps which i have copied and pasted from the J2Ee tutorial Chap 11 - Section on "Example Servlets"
Add the filters filters.HitCounterFilter and filters.OrderFilter (described in Filtering Requests and Responses).
1)Select the Filter Mapping tab.
2)Click Edit Filter List.
3)Click Add Filter.
4)Select filters.HitCounterFilter from the Filter Class column. deploytool will automatically enter HitCounterFilter in the Display Name column.
5)Click Add.
6)Select filters.OrderFilter from the Filter Class column. deploytool will automatically enter OrderFilter in the Display Name column.
7)Click OK.
8)Click Add.
9)Select HitCounterFilter from the Filter Name column.
10)Select Servlet from the Target Type column.
11)Select BookStoreServlet from the Target column.
12)Repeat for OrderFilter. The target type is Servlet and the target is ReceiptServlet.
Step 10 is what baffles me. I cannot see a Target Type column in the dialog box.Perhaps I am not being very careful in following the steps.

tutorial says one has got to go back and "Perform all

Web Applications"This instruction is telling you to do the operation as described in Chapter 3. So, you run create-db_common in the bookstore directory because the database tables are shared by all the bookstore applications.

No, you only run create-db_common in the bookstore directory. The X-ref is there in case you didn't create the tables while working through Chapter 3.

The best cover is the one that suites your needs. Try Google. There are dozens on the market.
As for the Apple Smart Cover, it does work with the new iPad. There are a few reported issues with it, but that doesn't come close to representing the totality of folks with it.

I'm guessing your problem is caused by code validation errors: orphaned division tags for example, or mismatched code and document type (i.e. XHTML /> mixed with HTML > style closures).

Duke's Bookstore Example (yet again)

Folks'es,
i'm currently ploughing my way through the j2ee tutorial 1.4. now that i come to the interesting parts (JSP et al) i'm stuck with getting the bookstore example to work.
i've done everything to compile and packge the bookstore.jar, i've created and populated the database, and created the data source in the server, all without problems.
but then it says under the heading "Specifying a Web Application's Resource Reference", that i should use deploytool and "1.Select the WAR (created in Chapters 11 through 22).". but i have no war file for the bookstore example! (i have some war's for the other examples and that's all.)
what am i missing? were did i go wrong?
any help is greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, you wrote that the output is 'table parameter' but you mention 2 single fields. If you expect a good reply here, it helps to mention how you defined the table and how you select the data for the output. For example: input is matnr and you select the material group of this matnr. Output is all other matnr of this material group. Then we would know what you want to do here.
So please describe what you need and give us the table description.

Problem populating date dimension with correct values

Hi all,
I have a 'simple' problem, but can't get it solved! The YTD calculations in the cube don't 'reset' at the right moment in time (they should 'reset' on the FISCAL year, but it actually seems to happen on the normal calendar year).
Our dimensions and cubes are MOLAP. There is a relational table, containing columns with values for both a CALendar hierarchy as well as for a FISCAL year hierarchy. This table populates the date dimension (only the fiscal hierarchy as in MOLAP we only have a fiscal hierarchy). The result looks correct in the data viewer.
The cube is populated from relational sources as well. One view provides the measure values and the CODE (business identifiers) values for each dimension involved. In case of the date dimension, it provides the code value for the involved level at which we load the cube (month).
I made a very simple testcase with only 1 dimension (date) and 1 small cube. The cube uses only the date dimesion (to load cube on the fiscal hierarchy at month level) and has 1 base measure that is loaded with a simple number and 1 calculated measure that calculates the YTD value for this base measure. The calculated measure is added in the OWB cube designer using button "Generate Calculated Measures" and choosing the "Year to Date" function.
When populating the cube and using the data viewer to check the results, the YTD measure values don't 'reset' at the fiscal year end. They seem to reset at the normal CALendar year end!?
After some testing, I have concluded it has to do with the values I supply to populate the date dimension, but I can't figure out what the modification should be and I can't find any examples anywhere.
Does anyone out there have a working YTD calculation in MOLAP?

Sorry David, I am not sure I've got this right yet. I am looking at using the cumsum function, but I am not sure how to apply this. That is, I can see examples (cumsum(measure, total_dim, reset_dim)), but I think I cannot put such formula directly into the expression editor for a cube measure in OWB?
Until now I have been using the standard available calculated measures in the OWB measure editor and I think they insert an xml template? I'll get the Excel Calculation Tool from OTN, to see if I can create the correct formula and paste that in OWB in the expression editor for the measure. (Does that tool need a ROLAP workspace or does it need / can it work with a MOLAP workspace?)

I have downloaded the Excel sheet and can see how it works, but it seems to "insert" the calculated measures straight into the AW. However we deploy the AW from OWB so I will be looking at getting something to enter/paste in the expression editor of OWB...

Has anyone populated the doc_flow details for an ORDERS05 IDOC?

I am having trouble understanding what needs to be populated in the doc_flow itab of line type CRMXIF_DOC_FLOW_I.
In my case I am trying to populate the doc flow with CONSIP (customer reference contract) details. I can work out what field 'RELATION_TYPE' is and can see that it needs to have a value of 'VONA'. This one is easy to identify because of the 4 character field definition, but I can't work out what goes in the relobj_roletype, relobj_objkey, relobj_type, or the relobj_object_id fields. Can anyone be of help here. I have been trying a number of different values, for example, I populated the relobj_roletype field with 'BUS2000135' which is the object name for a 'CRM Customer contract', but that was rejected and resulted in a status 51 being set in the IDOC.

I agree with you, but you try and get a VAN to supply IDOC related details in the complex data structure format. They can do it but they're not at all happy about it and go to great lengths to avoid, whereas the ORDERS05 is a standard that most already output to.
I can process ORDERS05 type IDOC's okay, although I had to add my own code to process a few segments. Anyway, the orders are being created okay. I did initially have a problem when blocking an item, based on certain checks perfromed in the BADI, but that has now been resolved. My only other problem, which a support message has been raised with SAP about, is to parse back status messages to IDOC. Again, there's a BADI which allows you to add content, but there's a mismatch in parameters between the FM and BADI. I'm sure they'll sort it out.
The only thing left now is to get the item level doc flow to update when pointing to customer reference contract. Again, it's just a case of reverse engineering the data from the IDOC created by the CRMXIF_ORDER_TEST program.

My ipod's music quality is inferior. It doesnt have the surround sound/ left and right audio channel unlike my brothers ipod? is there a problem with the chip?

I have an ipod touch 4g (8GB), I got this about 2.5 months ago, the same time my brother get his. My problem is that I noticed that audio quality is better on his device than mine. I have been listening to music and had different music devices before (non-Apple product and mobile phone) and the quality of music is better when I used to listen to those devices as well as my brother's ipod touch. Im referring to the left and right audio channels. Im not so good about the technical stuff but the best explanation I can give you is in a music or a movie, there's an effect wherein you can here a sound only at the left ear phone/speaker that you cant hear at the right earphone/speaker. I mean for example in a song, a guitar intro can be heared only at the left
ear while the background music plays on the other ear. Or when theres and echo effect on the song that alternates sound on the left and right ear. I hope youre getting what Im trying to say. Im bothered that my ipod is fake or has an internal problem on the chips or something because I didnt bought this at an Apple Center/Mac Center. I bought it on a retailer. I am not able to visit any store or Genius Bar or contact an apple specialist through phone because of my work schedule and work load. I have contacted the retailer before when I tried to return it for replacement or repair but he told me that it is under Apple's warranty, not theirs. I suggest you don't apply pressure to the screen - it's a Touch - you touch the screen not push it.

Problem with the volume keys on my keyboard.

I have a problem with the volume keys on my keyboard. This started a couple days ago and I can't seem to figure out how to fix it. When I press the volume up or down buttons, the graphic appears on the screen as it normally would, but has no effect on the volume of the sound coming out of my speakers. Therefore, the only way to change the volume of music or whatever I am listening to is to use the volume control within the program/website itself (itunes, youtube, etc.) Even changing the volume on the volume icon at the menu bar on top of the screen does nothing. If anyone has an idea of how to go about solving this issue, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

First look into the Preference > Sound > Outpur whether internal Speakers are choosen.
The only Preference to delete I can discover is com.apple.systempreferences.plist in your home Library folder. You can try to move it out to the desktop for example, not to loose all your settings. Restart and see whether the problem still persists. If you don't know how to do this here some Terminal (Applications > Utilities) commands. Enter them by copy and paste followed by <enter>
mv ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist ~/Desktop/
restart
to get it back:
mv ~/Desktop/com.apple.systempreferences.plist ~/Library/Preferences/
confirm with "y" if you are asked to replace this file.
