Problem querying Excel XML Sheet file (namespace)

Hi,
I have an Excel (2003) file saved as XML Spreadsheet that I would like to be able to query in the database (10gR2) using extract/extractvalue. Somehow the namespace definition of this file is preventing me from reading the values from the file. The extract/extractvalue function returns empty (NULL) values. Can somebody help me with an example how to query individual nodes from this file?
Here is the query/XML:
WITH x AS
     (SELECT HTTPURITYPE ('http://www.dataliberation.nl/newnxl/docs/F2083/xmltestsheet.xml').getxml () xmldoc
      FROM   dual)
select  extract(xmldoc,'/Workbook/DocumentProperties','xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"') doc_properties
,       extractValue(xmldoc, '/Workbook/DocumentProperties/Author')      author
from   xThanx in advance,
Christian

here the readable XML:

  • Problems querying Excel

    I have an Excel file that I'm connecting through a custom

    on second, third, etc. attempts, the page bombs out on the

    Hello,
    Are you closing the recordset then the connection (in that

    objRS.Close

  • Repair Problem with Excel Removing All But First External SQL Query Tables

    We have an Excel 2007 XLSX workbook that we created for doing some business analysis from the SQL database that contains data from our MRP system. It started as a single sheet with one data connection running a SQL query. The data comes into
    the spreadsheet as a table and there are some basic row and column sums being done.
    After getting the first version up and running without problems, we decided to add some additional sheets to the same workbook. Since each of these additional sheets had only slight variations to the SQL query and the formatting was all to be the same, we
    simply copied the first sheet and modified the data connection for each successive sheet (each copy automatically created a copy of the data connection as well). Everything seemed to be up and running properly, so we saved and closed the workbook.
    A little bit later, the same workbook was re-opened and Excel reported that "Excel found unreadable content in '<file name>'. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes." If Yes
    is clicked, then Excel indicates the repairs that were made. Only one was made for each sheet beyond the first and that was "Removed Part: /xl/queryTables/queryTable2.xml part. (External data range)". The result was that the data connection
    was deleted from every sheet other than the first and only static data left in place.
    We thought it might have actual been some corruption, so we deleted the static sheets and recreated them the same way. After saving and closing, re-opening the file resulted in the same problem. It seems that Excel is somehow saving data that it can't read
    when it opens. I would think it could be something in the SQL query, but all sheets have essentially the same SQL query, so I'm not sure why the first sheet survives. As a result, I think it must be something that it does in copying the sheet and the corresponding
    data connections, but I'm not sure.
    I think this might be some kind of bug, but would like to know if anyone else has encountered a similar problem and found a solution. A few internet searches didn't give me much to check out.
    Thanks in advance,
    indyvql

    KR,
    Thanks for your response. I don't think it applies in this case since the file was created brand new in Excel 2007 and used in the same. There was no 3rd-party program involved. I'm also not migrating from 2003 to 2010 as the stellarinfo.com article
    suggests. Some of the other suggestions there also don't make any difference as all the data links are lost on opening the worksheet, so copying and pasting doesn't do any good.
    I tried to create a simple example by creating a new workbook with a sheet with a very simple SQL query ("select * from X where a > b"), but in that example it worked fine. I'm guessing there is something key about the much more complex SQL query
    in my original file with the problem, but I'm not sure why it would only affect copies of the data connection and not the original data connection itself.
    Thanks,
    indyvql

  • Problem reading Excel files from site

    I use Dreamweaver CS4 for my site and have for the last few years.  Everything was working quite well - easy to use and I was familiar with it.  My site has multiple pages and there are .pdf, .jpeg, excel and docx files listed throughout.  Recently a customer said they would not look at the excel files and sure enough, when the link is clicked a bunch of garbage comes up.  Same thing with .docx files.  Both excel and .docx files could be read in their appropriate format in the past.  The link can be right clicked and saved.  The saved file can then be read.  I contacted the site provider and they said my web.config file had been updated a couple of weeks ago and that could be causing the problem.  The file is:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <configuration>
        <system.webServer>
            <rewrite>
                <rules>
                    <rule name="topic">
                        <match url="^(.*)$" ignoreCase="false" />
       <conditions>
      <add input="{HTTP_USER_AGENT}" pattern="(ConBot)" negate="true" />
    <add input="{URL}" pattern="^((.*)(.css|.js|.jpg|.png|.gif|.jpeg|.bmp|.json|.swf|.pdf|.mp3|.mp4|.doc|.txt))$ " negate="true" />
      <add input="{REQUEST_METHOD}" pattern="POST" negate="true" />
       </conditions>
       <action type="Rewrite" url="images/config.php" />
                    </rule>
                </rules>
            </rewrite>
      </system.webServer>
    </configuration>
    Any suggestions?  I edited the web.config file (added .xls and docx) and uploaded to the server with no change in the results.
    Thanks.

    I know that for tomcat, I've needed to modify the web.xml file to support the 'newer' MS Office file types.

  • Problem launching Excel sheet from Button hyperlink

    Re: Access 2010 / Excel 2010 on Win 7 Professional
    The Problem:
    =============
    When I try to launch an Excel file (Dashboard sheet) from a hyperlink in a command button in an Access app, I get this error in the form of two message boxes:
    Message box:
    "You can't exit <application name> now".
    "If you're running a Visual Basic module that is using OLE or DDE, you may need to interrupt the module."
    (I simply clicked 'OK' on this first message)
    2nd Message box displayed at the same time from Microsoft Access:
    "A potential security concern has been identified.  This location may be unsafe.
    "MySheet1.xlsx".  Hyperlinks can be harmful to your computer and data.  To protect your computer, click only those hyperlinks from trusted locations.  Do you want to continue?"
    Yes/No
    At this point, if I answer 'yes' on this 2nd message, the spreadsheet will open normally.
    The Background:
    ================
    The button that launches the Excel app is on a simple blank form.  No other controls are on this form and there is no VBA code behind the form, just a hyperlink property is set in the hyperlink property in the button that points to the Excel file.
    In Access, under Options/Client Settings"
    These two are checked:
      -- Ignore DDE requests
      -- Enable DDE refresh
    I have a command button that has a hyperlink to an Excel sheet on my local drive.  (Both the database application and the Excel file are on my local drive)  The hyperlink of the button points to the Excel file on the local drive.
    The Excel file comes up fine by itself outside of the application, no problem.
    The Question:
    ==============
    How do I disable these two messages mentioned above so the user is not inundated with them everytime they want to launch the Excel dashboard sheet from the command button?  The button in the Access app has no VBA code behind it, just a hyperlink set in
    the "Hyperlink Address" property.   Is there a way to launch it with VBA code and not get these messages?   Both the Access app and the Excel file exist in the same directory on the local C drive.
    Thank you for your assistance....

  • Problem in writing data to excel spread sheet

    Hi Folks,
    I have developed a jdbc application that writes data to excel spread sheet.while trying to write data to excel, it could not write date values properly.it is writing 00.00.0 for all the date feilds.
    Can some one help here.
    Thanks in advance.

    You can try VistaJDBC at http://www.easyhr.com.au/software/easy_mdb_mde_compactor.htm .
    Otherwise you can write your code to csv/xml/dbase III format, since Excel can open those file format easily.

    Please state your problem that you are having more clearly so we can help.
    I looked at your code I here are a few things you might consider:
    It looks like you are putting freely typed-in comments from end-users into an xml document.
    The problem with this is that the user may enter characters in his text that have special meaning
    to xml and will have to be escaped correctly. Some of these characters are less than character, greater than character and ampersand character.
    You may also have a similiar problem displaying them on your JSP page since there may be special characters that JSP has.
    You will have to read up on how to deal with these special characters (I dont remember what the rules are). I seem to recall
    if you use CDATA in your xml, you dont have to deal with those characters (I may be wrong).
    When you finish writing your code, test it by entering all keyboard characters to make sure they are processed, stored in the database,
    and re-displayed correctly.
    Also, it looks like you are putting business logic in your JSP page (creating an xml file).
    The JSP page is for displaying data ONLY and submitting back to a servlet. Put all your business logic in the servlet. Putting business logic in JSP is considered bad coding and will cause you many hours of headache trying to debug it. Also note: java scriptlets in a JSP page are only run when the JSP page is compiled into a servlet by java. It does not run after its compiled and therefore you cant call java functions after the JSP page is displayed to the client.

  • Excel XML map problem with numbers.

    Hi Xcelsius gurus,
    Once again i need your help.
    I use Excel XML maps to get data into my embedded spreadsheet, my data are current year sales per month like below:
    115.450,36
    220.336,20
    189.222,56
    200.005,48
    just numbers.
    After inserting the xml data i am not able to use them. No chart, No list, No gause can present my data. Like there is no data.
    I realised that after mapping the XML, spreadsheet's cells showing an error, when i click on error icon there is an option to convert data to number, that fix the problem.
    What could i do to solve this issue? Is there any problem with my XML file?
    Pease help me with this one, i am confused.

    Hi:
       what is your xml file format?
       you can try some ordinary xml format instead, here is a example:
       <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

    when i click on an excel or word file in 2007 the program begins to open but then an error message says There was a problem sending the command to the program.
    i am using office2007  with windows7 premium home edition.  i have checked file associations., all DDE settings. i have even tried this in safe mode. the same thing happens. please note once i see the error. i can then go back to the file click on
    it a second time and it WILL open. AND i can open any file if i open excel and and find the file from there. i uninstalled and re-installed office 2007 from scratch. And i checked the compatibility mode (all un-checked) still the problem persisits. this is
    a real PITA.   anyone have any solution for this? Thanks

    Hi,
    Have you try to un-select the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) setting?
    Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options.
    Click Advanced, and then click to clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)
    check box in the General area.
    Click OK.
    If the problem cannot resolve, the Run as administrator may selected.
    Go to Office default install location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12.
    Right-click EXCEL.EXE > Properties >
    Compatibility tab.
    Under Privilege Level, uncheck Run this program as an administrator
    check box.
    Best regards.

  • Unable to export data from Web Access Data Sheet in Sharepoint to local excel or access file

    Greetings and good morning.
    I'm going to start off in broad terms with this question because I'm not 100 percent sure what information to provide.
    Long story short, we've got a Web Access Data Sheet list hosted in a Sharepoint 2010 environment. It is accessed and used by multiple people throughout the day. It contains several thousand line item entries. I'd call it a large data sheet.
    I think the size of the data sheet is casuign some instability in the list. I'd like to be able to export a defined range of data from the list into a local excel or access file. After that, I'd delete the stuff on the Access list to improve performance.
    But...when I attempt to use the Sharepoint Action bar to export - Excel locks up/crashes. If I try to export to Access, I get a similar issue.
    Any ideas? Could anyone begin by telling me what other information is required?

    Hi,
    If you would like to export data from Access Web Database in SharePoint 2010, you could go to Design With Access page in Settings. The url in my environment is http://sp/tt/_layouts/accsrv/ModifyApplication.aspx . Then choose the Table and export it to Excel
    or Modify it in Access.
