Problem running Java applets since Java update 2 (1.6.0_20)

Hi,
Since I upgraded to Java update 2, Java applets started having problems. The most noticeable ones are:
Non-modal windows appear behing the browser Window (tested Safari 4, 5, Chrome 5).
Double buffering not working as usual (slower, white boxes appear when dragging a window, etc.)
Slower rendering in general
The same applications run perfectly using Java Web Start. And they used to work very well also in Java update 1.

Our applications running in applets use the new plug-in 2 with JNLP files.
Notice the Java startup splash (the animated sun-like logo) is not moving as smoothly as usual. It is very jerky now.
Are these problems known by anyone?
How can I downgrade Java to previous version?

Since the last Java update on mac, all my OpenGL applets stop working and now just shows a white screen on Chrome, Firefox and Opera. They was working well on all browsers (Safari/WebKit,Chrome,Firefox,Opera) just before the update.
The trouble maker seem to be the java plugin 2 and the new offscreen rendering pipeline, as reported by jrhaddad with the disucssion linked to the different Java/OpenGL community forums.
This is a huge regression for me, and I think for all hobbies/ independent developers and all companies who are doing some Java/OpenGL develoment. All our work just stop working since this update.
If would really want to know from Apple if they are working on this problem and/or how this can be solved.
Should this be fixed by Apple with a new java update, or should the various browsers must upgrade their applet support plugins according to the new java plugin 2 changes ?

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Am I the only one having problems with ringer volume since the update?? I'm hard of hearing and before updating to IOS7 I could hear my alarm and ringer just fine. Volume is turned up all the way and I've chosen the loudest sounds I could and still having a difficult time hearing.

Java apps have started running very slowly since last update. Anyone else experiencing any problems.

There is an java app that I have run for years without any problem Within the last few days it started running very slowly. I went to the Apple store and ran the same app and experienced exactly the same problem
Yesterday I tried running this app on a Windows based machine and it ran perfectly.
I was all set to download the latest java when I saw that Apple supplied the java version on the MAC.
I have run sotware updates and get results that all software is uptodate.
Any suggestions?

There are many people who have posted about persistent export failures since the update. A search will uncover a number of threads just within the past month. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to these problems – and if there is common fix, I haven't heard about it.
However, the update hasn't been a problem for me – nor presumably has it been for the majority of users.

Java applet failures after updating to Java 6 Update 19

Hi,
I'm currently experiencing a failure of unsigned Java applets after upgrading to JRE/Plugin 1.6.0_19. The problem with the update has been narrowed down to an interim fix for a TLS/SSL Man-in-the-Middle attack (see http://java.sun.com/javase/javaseforbusiness/docs/TLSReadme.html). This fix intentionally fails attempted renegotiations.
The environment consists of Windows XP PCs running IE6/7 and JRE 1.6.0_19 as clients connecting to a website using SSL connections and SmartCard(PKI) authentication.
Previously, clicking a link on the website produced a new window to an URL with some HTML that uses an <APPLET> tag to open a Java applet. Prior to the applet loading, a Java "Request Authentication" dialog would pop up to allow selection of a certificate to be used for authentication from the browser keystore.
Now, no such dialog displays. And, depending on client and chosen applet, these responses are observed:
(1) complete failure of the applet to load with "java.lang.ClassNotFoundException" and "javax.net.ssl.SSLException: HelloRequest followed by an unexpected handshake message" errors in the console;
(2) the applet loads but is unable to read its data files with "java.io.IOException" and "javax.net.ssl.SSLException: HelloRequest followed by an unexpected handshake message" errors in the console.
Overriding the interim fix with "-Dsun.security.ssl.allowUnsafeRenegotiation=true" results in a return to normal operation, but our security team does not deem this override an acceptable solution.

Thanks for the detailed log.
Your server requested a renegotiation, and as renegotiation is unsafe, the client refused to renegotiate the connection. That's the expected behavior.
However, it seems strange that the server send a incorrect block of data immediately following the renegotiation request. From the bytes, I don't known what was the data the server sent following the handshake message. It would be of help if you could load your another log with the debug enabled (javax.net.debug=all)and unsafe renegotiation enabled(sun.security.ssl.allowUnsafeRenegotiation=true).

How to run an applet with .java files in 2 dirrerent directories ?

I have an applet with :
5 .java class files and its .html file in one directory and
2 .java class files ( with identical names) and its .html file in another directory .
How do I go about executing this applet ? In the past all the applets
I have run had all the classes in one directory.

If you want them both in the same page, put both applet tags in 1 page,
I could do that but both directories have a SpaceDunes.class
and both directories have a Shot class (diffferent immplementations
but the same name)
so the applet tag

Problems running external programs from java

Hello.
I wrote a pair of perl scripts and a GUI in java to run them. The first perl script just read the files in one directory makes some changes to the names of the files and then group all this files in a set of new directories. The other perl scripts takes all this new files and calls BLAST sequence alignment program and perform some alignments among these sequences. I tested this scripts and they work fine.
The problem comes when I try to run them for the JAVA GUI. I use RunTime and when I need to run the first perl script it all works well, but when The call to the second perl script is made the program fisishes without doing anything at all. I found out that the problem is that when running the script from the Java GUI it's not able to find BLAST program. So I guess that Java is not really starting a terminal session and it doesn't read my bash_profile to find out the path to my programs.
So, my question is if anyone knows a method to tell Java to load all this paths in the bash_proflie file so all of my scripts work???.
I have no idea is this can be done and how so any advice would be really wellcome.
By the way, my java version is 1.4.2 and my OS is Mac OS X 10.3

Problem in loading applet into java card.

Sorry above i forgot to mention the java card am using. It is JCOP21 and in its datasheet its mentioned that it specification needed are javacard development kit 2.2.1, is that may be the reason for this error?

Access System Resources using Java Applet via Java Script

I can access my Applet public methods (and this methods access system resources) via Java Script if I do the following: System.setSecurityManager(null);However, I'm making this post because I don't like this solution.
Supposedly, setting the SM to null is like making the Applet (which is signed and was accepted by the user via a prompt from the browser) behave like a normal Java program that has no restrictions. (http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/environment/security.html, second paragraph)
However, this feels like a workaround of something that is supposed to be there (the SM).
Also, if I make the methods invocation from inside the applet (using swing buttons and textboxes for example) I can use the standard SM without no problems.
From my readings, the problem regarding Java Script invocation, comes from the fact that the Java Script is not a secure (not signed) source (because you can invoke public methods the way you wish from it i guess) on the contrary to the applet methods invoked by the buttons.
Possible solutions I found in the web range from using the public static Object doPrivileged(PrivilegedAction action) method or imaginative things like creating new threads on the public method that call the private methods that access the system resources (supposedly because the new thread runs under the safe environment of the applet)

However, none of these solutions worked, the only results were with the setResourceManager(null)So, any one can contribute with a solution for this? Should I keep trying to find a solution other then the one I already have?

Note for 2. the converter will run the applet with SUN jre for sure if the user has IE.
IE will use the ActiveX technology to run the applet (as with Macromedia Flash).
For Netscape I am not sure, but I would think Netsape will use the plug in provided by
SUN.
Note for SUN jre 1.3. If this applet is to be used within a company that uses a proxy with
ntlm authentication the 1.3 applet cannot connect (to the Internet) through this proxy since
ntlm athentication is supported since j2re1.4.2_03. There is one version before that but
that one will pop up a window asking for the user's domain account and password wich
is both lame and crappy.
As for the IE settings, IE has a default setting that askes users the "do you trust"
queston for AciveX controls within the Internet securety zone (tools -> internet options
-> security).
Sincy anybody can make ActiveX controls (allso sign them) a user that has a problem
to find the "no" button will sooner or later install a malicuous ActiveX control (spy ware
or a virus).
If this user's desktop is within your company's network it will cause serious harm.
This is why most company's disable this by changing the default internet expolorer
settings. Since I assume you are writhing this applet to be used by a company I allso
assumed that company has someone to maintain the desktops. In that case I
assume that person would want to control the security within the SUN jre instead of
letting the user deside what to trust and what not.

TYPES is Properties object.
When we modify the .java.policy file with permission java.security.AllPermission it work fine too, and this make to us think that this is a permission problem!.
Somebody has an idea???

Having to modify the policy file defeats the whole point of using applets in the first place. If you have to install anything (such as a new policy file) on the client machine, you may as well install a GUI program.
Either get yourself a digital certificate and sign the applet, or use an independent program instead.

Problem running signed applet in 1.4 plugin

We have a signed applet which we're trying to run on clients downloaded over the web. Our client applet is developed for Java 1.4.0. We're signing the applet because it is expected to access local client resources. The client applet runs successfully on some machines and on both IE6 and Netscape 7. We have installed Java Plugin 1.4 on all machines. But on some machines we receive the following exception:

in the console, hit "s" to dump system properties on one machine that is working and one that is not, and post the dumps here. If it is a configuration issue, that will likely point to the problem.

Taking screenshot with java applet using java robot class not working

Hi Everyone,
I am using the java applet to take screenshot of the web browser using the java's robot class.
Robot objRobot = new Robot ();
BufferedImage objBufferedImage = objRobot.createScreenCapture(objRectArea);
The thing work good in windows system taking screenshot but in case of mac osx i get the blank image.When i check the event viewer in mac osx i get the following error.
invalid context
invalid pixel format
CoreAnimation: rendering error 506
The problem is coming for all the browser safari,firefox and chrome.My applet is signed applet.
What might be the reason.An early reply is very valuable.
My machine configuration is as follows.
OS : MAC OSX
Version : 10.6.4
Is that a system level issue , java plugin issue?I'am confused with this error.

Safari is running SO slow since i updated it!

OK - 4GB is not perfect (8GB would be best) but I don't see anything in your configuration that would make Safari run slowly. How is your Internet connection speed? Does another browser (such as Firefox or Google Chrome) run just as slowly? Are you connected to your Internet wirelessly?
