Problem running my classes

Hello everybody,
I have just installed jdk 6u1 on my linux RedHat as 4 system. I just executed the file and then added a PATH to my environment. I run apps like HelloWorld with no problem, but when it comes to a bit more complex ones I get these errors:

  • Problem running my class file

    i'm using os x and when i compile my HelloWorld.java i have no errors and it creates the HelloWorld.class file in the same directory. now if i try to run the program from the terminal by typing in
    java HelloWorld it works file, but if i try to send the HelloWorld.class file to any other machine or even open it not using the terminal(finding the file and double clicking it) it won't run.
    Any idea how to make this program stand alone like i would want??
    Thanks

    alright i'll look it up, the little i've done with
    java on windows with textpad i thought i was creating
    a .class that executed from the ms-dos window but
    perhaps something else the compiler did behind the
    scenes to make it executable?Nope.
    java HelloWorldYou're running java.exe. It's taking HelloWorld as its argument, finding the class called HelloWorld.class, taking it as input, and executing its main method through the JVM.
    It's exactly the same thing as if you type Notepad somefile.txt or javac SomeFile.javaThe first word is the .exe or .bat that's running, and the next word is an argument that the program interprets as a file to use as its input.

  • Problems running servlet due to missing classes?

    Hi everyone,
    I am doing a project which requires me to convert a java coding into a servlet. This java coding I am working on is some kind of location based service which tracks people (receiving an argument of a string as IP). It imports an external SDK called Ekahau SDK (some off the shelve product). Now I wish to convert it into a servlet so that the function that the java coding performs can be run from a webpage i created.
    I have previously posted a thread on this forum called "Converting java coding into servlets?" when I had trouble compiling the servlet. Now that I could compile the servlet already, I still have problems running the servlet from my browser.
    The webserver I am using is Apache Tomcat. Previously I was trying Apache HTTP server but since now I need to use servlet, I have shifted to Tomcat instead. I have been getting these "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:" when running the servlet from the browser. From the previous thread, I got suggestions from the replies saying that I need to put the jar files I need into my "C:\Tomcat\webapps\try\WEB-INF\lib" directory. I have been looking for the missing jar files from the internet and putting them into my "C:\Tomcat\webapps\try\WEB-INF\lib", but each time after adding a new jar file, I get another new "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:". Are the missing jar files really the problems? Cause it seems a bit weird to me that I need some many jar files which I dont even know why I need them for.
    The HTTP status 500 error look like this:
    description
    The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request.

    Well, it's kind of logical that as you put more jar files (classes) in Tomcat, it changes the error to ask for the classes (inside a jar) it cannot find.
    There was a good class->jar finder on the internet some years ago, but i don't remember the address. Try looking for that and search all the missing classes (NotDefined) and their correspondig jar files.
    Good Luck!

    what's the deal?
    I've checked my env. variables, but I don't know if I have them wrong or what.

    c:\ java Client
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Client
    Sam

    Actually I would bet money all he needs is the classpath statment such as I directed a few posts up..
    He needs the period at the end to tell the java interpeter to search the present directory...
    Most of you are mistakeing his questions. If the compiler could not find the class files it wouldn't compile. Since he said he get's the error when:
    c:\ java Client
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Client
    Tells me that he wrote a program called Client and the interpeter can't find his compiled class file..
    Because the class path variable isn't set to present directory (the piriod) I had this same problem the first time I installed java.. It drove me nuts. I spent 2 months programming out of the bin directory before I found the classpath statment.. hehe (hey we were all beginners once)

    Ps. If you want convermation on what I said go read the link I posted on classpath statments

  • How to run a class file in MAC os, compiled in XP.

    Hi all,
    i am compiling a java program in windows using JDK 1.5 and i am copying this file to MAC os (Panther). In Mac i am running this class file using JDK 1.4.i am getting the following exception,
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassversion error.
    This is understandable, but is there any solution for this ...
    Any one experienced the same problem ...
    If any one comes up with a solution to solve this, plz let me know...
    Thanks in advance......

    You are compiling it in 1.5 and expecting 1.4 to run it?
    You have two options: compile it at the 1.4 level or upgrade your Mac to 1.5

  • Having problem running an application

    I have recently installed jdk 1.2.2 and i have no problem running applet but when i try to run an application i get the message 1 error can't find<filename> . java.
    The path in autoexec.bat is fine. JRE File is include in my file jdk1.2.2.
    I have installed and deinstalled it a couple of time and can't make it work.
    Could someone help me please!!
    Thanking you in advance!

    doesn't sound like a path problem at all. you say when you try to RUN the app you get a message can't find filename.java. When you're running the app you run the binary class file i.e. java MainClass.class. If you're compiling the app you would do javac MainClass.java. Clarify your situation further if this does not help you out.

  • Problem running car demo jwsdp-1.3,Tomcat 5.0

    Hello. I am having problems running the car demo on the jwsdp-1.3 with Tomcat 5.0.
    I get the following error message:
    "A jar file containing the Servlet 2.3 and JSP1.2 classes is required to compile
    carstore. Please define the property servlet.jar in your build.properties file and ensure
    that the file exists."
    I replaced the jsf EA 4 with the beta, and cleared out the cache in catalina as per the
    installation documents. I am probably missing something here. I checked my path,
    (I am using windows xp) and made sure the jsf directory was in the path.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    regards,
    cyuno

    Thanks for your response.
    I changed the path to the tomcat 5.0 that came with the jwsdp-1.3.
    However, I am still getting the same error message. I have checked the build.properties file, the path, the path where ant is located, and the path is pointing to the jwsdp-1.3 directory.
    I have been working with the examples in the java web services tutorial, and for the most part have not had any problems running the examples using the jwsdp-1.3, ant and tomcat 5.0(except for CH 11, on the jaxb examples)
    Thanks again for your help

  • How can i run Java class form  other java application.

    Hi ,
    I have problem to run java class from my java application,
    I am using the class ClassLoader in order to launched the Java class , its work fine whenever, the class exist in the same folder , however , when i am trying to run class that is not in the current folder ,
    i got error (see below),
    Do you have any idea what is wrong?
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException

         at SimpleClassLoader.loadClass(SimpleClassLoader.java:53)
         at Run.main(Run.java:31)

    What does "run an class" mean? You don't run classes. They're not executables.
    I bet your problem is the classpath. You are aware that the classloader looks only there? Unless it's an UrlClassLoader.

    Hey,
    You are probably missing jsp-impl.jar in the classpath. Please add it to your class path and try again.

  • Having Problems Running my Java Progs

    Hey guys,
    I keep getting the following error message when I try to run any of my java programs.
    Exception in thread "main"
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: HelloApp
    this is the app that im trying to run;
    public class HelloApp
         public static void main (String[] args)
              System.out.println("Hello, World");
    }I cant see anything wrong with this piece of code. Ive definately saved the code as HelloApp.java. I've tried several different programs all with the same result. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening?
    Thank You
    Jaz

    OK, classpath is different from path, it's specifically used by java to locate .class files.
    Apparently some Windoze versions do not automatically include the local directory in the classpath - or may not have a classpath variable set until you do it manually.
    So, the easiest way to see if this is your problem is to set the classpath in the command line like so:
    java -cp C:\WhereIHidMyFiles HelloApp
    (obviously, substitute the correct directory name above)

  • Compiling on a dual core machine and running the class files on linux.

    does compiling on a dual core machine and running the class files on linux have any effect?

    well, the problem that i felt was that when i runmy
    class files on my machine(windows xp, dual core),
    Thread.sleep(60000) sleeps for 1 minute. but wheni
    run it on a linux machine, Thread.sleep(60000)sleeps
    for 2 minutes. my application has a lot ofthreads.
    I can't be 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure that
    sleep(60000) doesn't sleep for 2 minutes on the other
    machine.I, wholeheartedly, agree.
    Due to timing issues it may seem to sleep a few milliseconds more, but not double.
    Of course, if there is a "real-time" (or even simply higher than the Java app) priority program running that is using a lot of the CPU it may seem like it sleeps a lot longer than 60000, but that is a different issue.

  • Problems running a simple RMI

    Hi there,
    I have had alot of problems running a small RMI program.
    It has now boiled down to a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
    when i try to use my policy file.
    The program complies, when i run javac *.java
    It also creates the stub, when i run rmic.
    I have trawled alot of forums and the closest answer i got was "add your classpath".
    As im a student of java, this does not really tell me much.
    The class/java files are in
    C:\Documents and Settings\MONDARIZ\workspace\RmiHello\server
    The policy file is also in the folder.
    I must add, that the program is from an example, so i would not think there is any coding errors.
    Also when i run it en eclipse, i get "Hello server failed: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission 127.0.0.1:1099 connect,resolve)"
    So it seems something is running.

    The answer you found is correct. Java needs to know where to find the class files for execution.
    For starters, use the environment variable CLASSPATH. Set the value to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\MONDARIZ\workspace\RmiHello\server
    This way whatever you run (RMI Registry, Server, Client) has the proper class path. When you get everything running ok, then you can look into other methods of specifying where the class files are found.
    Eclipse, as well as command line Java starts, need to find the policy file. Set up this:
    -Djava.security.policy=C:\Documents and Settings\MONDARIZ\workspace\RmiHello\server\your_policy_file.xxx

  • Running java classes

    I am a newbie to java and have installed the sdk files fine and breezyswing and terminal IO packages and it all seems to work ok because i can compile all my files fine. Even the test files i can compile and they work ok. But when i go to run the class file i always get this error
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: c:\Division.class
    can someone please help me.

    You might want to check this link.
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/getStarted/cupojava/win32.html
    The argument to the java.exe command is a class name, not a file or path. If your class is defined as "public class Division" then the command is "java Division" Also, class names are case sensitive, so you must use Division, not division.
    If you still get the NoClassDefFound error, you probably have a Classpath problem. Try to CD to the directory where Division.class file is and use the command "java -claspath . Division"
    Then check the hundreds of posts in the forum concerning classpath.

  • How Do I Run A Class From Another Class?

    Hiya everyone, id like to know how to run a class from another class.
    Ive got a Login class which extends a JFrame and a Personnel class which also extends a JFrame. When i press the login button (in Login class), ive got it to decide if password/login are acceptable and if they are, I want the Login class to close then run the Personnel class.
    Im just after the code which says to close this class and run the Personnel class. How do i do that?
    Ive researched this but couldnt get an understandable answer!
    Help would be much appreciated, Ant...

    This is the Login Class:
    public class MainMenu extends javax.swing.JFrame {
        Statement statement = null;
        int currentRecord;
        ResultSet rs = null;
        String name = null, job = null, mission = null, login = null, password = null;
        String loginVal;
        String passwordVal;
        /** Creates new form MainMenu */
        public MainMenu() {
            initComponents();
            try{
                Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
                String filename = System.getProperty("user.dir") + "/src/Personnel.mdb";
                String database = "jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=" + filename;
                Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection( database , "","");
                statement = conn.createStatement();
                System.out.println("Connected...ok");
            } catch (Exception e) {
                System.err.println("Got a connection Problem!");
                System.err.println(e.getMessage());
        private void btnLoginActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
            loginVal = txtLogin.getText();
            passwordVal = txtPassword.getText();
            String name = null, job = null, mission = null, login = null, password = null;
            try{
                rs = statement.executeQuery("SELECT Login,Password FROM Personnel WHERE Login = '" + loginVal + "' ");
                System.out.println("TRYING SELECT CLAUSE");
                if(rs.next()){
                    System.out.println("THERE IS A NEXT RECORD");
                    login = rs.getString(1);
                    password = rs.getString(2);
                    System.out.println("GOT THE NEXT RECORD");
                    System.out.println(login + password);
                System.out.println("Query Complete");
            }catch(Exception s){
                //s.printStackTrace();
                System.out.println("NO RECORDS EXIST FOR THIS LOGIN ID");
            if(passwordVal.equals(password)){
                System.out.println("Access Granted"); //CLOSE MAIN AND RUN CONTROL CLASS
            } else{
                System.out.println("Access Denied"); //RE-RUN CLASS
        }

  • Running a class with command line parameters from IDE

    Hi there,
    I want to run a class from with the developer IDE. But I also want to pass in some command line parameters. Is there any way to do this from within the IDE, without having to go out to a Dos Prompt or shell?
    Thanks in advance
    Johnny

    In JDeveloper 10.1.3, Project Properties->Run/Debug->Edit
    choose the program that should be be the default run target.
    Click "Tool Settings" in the left pane and then in the right pane under "Additional Runner Options" select "Allow program input".
    It works, but the input works better in the command prompt. The problem is that after entering one input the Input-line looses focus and one have to click it to re-focus. A bug?
    However, this lets me use the "Run" button. All in all, a more efficient way of developing programs.
