Problem upgrading photos from old version of iPhoto

I just purchased a new iMac and therefore got a new version of iPhoto. It said I need to upgrade my library to be compatible with the new version of iPhoto. I began the upgrade process, it said it may take more than an hour for large libraries. I have 39,000 photos, the upgrader has been running for 13 hours straight and still cycling. Is this normal? So I need to stop and restart?

No, that's not normal.  Are you running the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1?  Force quite out of the upgrader and try again.
You did make a backup copy of the library before starting the upgrade, right?

  • Trouble importing keywords/photos from old version of iPhoto

I'm trying to import photos with their ratings & keywords from my old Mac that has iPhoto version 6.0.6. I copied the iPhoto folder from old Mac to Pictures folder in User on new Mac, then imported that folder from new iPhoto. It only imported a fraction of the photos and none of the keywords or ratings came with.
Help and suggestions are most appreciated!

    There's no importing involved.
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
You do not +import it to the new iPhoto+. You simply open the LIbrary with the new iPhoto and that updates it.

  • Problem downloading photos from iphone 4 ios5 iphoto 11

I uprgraded iphoto to 11, version 9.2, and Iphone 4 to ios 5. Now iphoto will not import photos from iphone 4. Finder would not see phone either. Iphone was hooked to computer using cord from ipad. Switched to cord from iphone and problem went away.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • Importing photos from old iPhone into iPhoto

I've just upgraded an iPhone and am trying to get the photos off the old one onto the computer. Using iPhoto because that's what I've used before. The iPhone is connected via USB and iTunes recognizes it but iPhoto doesn't show it at all, so there's no chance to import anything. Any ideas why the device is not showing up to iPhoto, even while it does show up to iPhoto? Be advised, I have not backed up to the Cloud at all so Photo Stream is not enabled.
And a secondary question: why in the heck would iTunes be set up, under the Photos tab, to import photos FROM the computer TO the iPhone? That's all I can get it to do at least. Why in the world would I want to move photos in that direction, if the iPhone is the camera and the comptuer hard drive is the storage device?

So you can view pics from your computer on your iphone.  For most, then iphone is not the only camera they ever use.  In fact, it is likely not the main camera you would use.

  • I am having problems downloading photos from my camera to iphoto 11

I am unable to download photos from my sony cybershot DSC-W170 and my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30 to iphoto11. The problem started when the colour wheel started spinning when iphoto opened after I switched on either camera and the programme became unresponsive. Subsequently when ever I then tried to open iphoto the colour wheel span and iphoto didn't respond, force quit the only way out.
After this happened the first time I rebuilt my library from timemachine (not the quickest process with around 9000 images), iphoto then opened okay and I could view libraries again.
I then downloaded the images directly from the camera sd card to my desktop and tried to drag the images into iphoto one at a time this worked but as soon as i tried to import the whole roll, the colour wheel popped up and iphoto became unresponseive again but I could view my libraries at least.
I then read about deleting the library cache which I did and restarted my mac (imac core duo 2ghz, running 10.6.8) I then tried to download from the sony cybershot again and I here am back at the start, with the colour wheel and iphoto not responding, I have just force quit and I can't open iphoto. Help!

  • Problems transferring photos from iphone to mac, iphoto says there is nothing to download...

Hi, I need to transfer photos from iphone to mac. My mac can 'see' my iphone with iphoto open, but the box says there are no photos to download. Could anyone help me please? This has never been a problem before (it was fine about 2 weeks ago). I've tried turning both devices off and have spent a couple of hours trying to search for this problem on the internet. I can't remember when I updated to OS 7.1 but I guess that was recently; could this be the problem? Thank you so much.

This has nothing to do with iOS 7.1

  • Upgrade path from old version of LabWin 3.1 and NIDAQ to WinXP system

Hello,  I am trying to help folks at my old university lab recover from a Win95 PC failure with an old version of LabWindows, 3.1 (ca.~1997).
They have  a WinXP PC and have installed the old 3.1 software on this PC.  My old projects will compile and mostly run, but they are having problems finding a version of legacy NIDAQ that will work in LabWin 3.1 and WinXP. Function calls simply return errors so far, although I suspect they may not have configured the DIO-48 card in NIDAQ yet and the version of NIDAQ they have may not have legacy support for the "easyio" library.
Does anyone have experience with this?  If it is simply not possible, the second path is to have them buy LabWin2010, but I do not know whether the NI libraries (other than easyio which is easy enough to swap for std  NIDAQ fcn calls) have changed significantly and will require a large code rewrite for the GUI or other NI libs. Third option is to simply install Win95 if they can find disks, and use teh very old NIDAQ on the old PC.
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
I have not seen this exact situation before, but I would be happy to help you out to find what you need. Can you tell me a little bit more about your setup? From what I understand, you have an old program written in LabWindows 3.1 and a DIO-48 card. Are there any other pieces of software or hardware in your setup? It looks like the version of traditionalDAQ you need is 4.9 or lower. Do you know what exact version you had been using? I have sent you a private message to get your email address so that I can send you this driver.

  • Migrating photos in old version of iPhoto to new version on new computer

I'm attempting to transfer all of the photos and associated data from a circa-2010 version of iPhoto to the latest version on a new laptop.  In the process, I'd like to preserve all the folders and events.  I tried just transfering the files from one computer to the other but this doesn't seem to work.
Is there an easy way to do this?
    Thanks.

Transfer the iPhoto Library file (should be a single file in your Pictures folder) to the other computer - via an external drive is usually best. Put it in your user's Pictures folder. Double-click on it. What happens?

  • Having problem loading photos from iPhone 5 to iPhoto

starting syncing photos on iPhone 5 to iPhoto and it got hung up midstream . . . iPhoto just freezes up and I only get the psychedelic spinning wheel spinning for hours with nothing happening.  Not very Apple-like.  Any ideas?

    Hey AppleTom7591,
Thanks for the question. First, I would try this suggestion out:
In iPhoto '11, select the option to "Repair the iPhoto Library Database" to check the iPhoto Library database for inconsistencies and repair them, if necessary. iPhoto '11 also includes the option to "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup," which performs the same functions as it does in iPhoto '09, but should only be attempted if the "Repair the iPhoto Library Database" option does not help.

If that doesn't work, I would try using Image Capture to get the pictures onto your Mac:
Open Image Capture (in the Applications folder) and see if the camera is recognized in this application. If your camera is still not recognized by iPhoto, check to see if the camera has a removeable storage card, such as a Compact Flash (CF) or Secure Digital (SD) card. If so, you may be able to mount this card and read the photo files from the Finder if you have a USB or FireWire card reader connected to your computer.

  • Problem Transferring Photos from Old iPhone to new iPhone 5S

The old iPhone was backed up via iTunes Backup on a Windows XP PC.  Most everything (apps, music, books) were copied to the 5S via iTunes, but only 1/2 the photos (approximately 700 of 1600).  But when attempting to restore from the backup, iTunes says there is not enough memory.  Further, unless de-selected, iTunes syncs photos from the My Pictures folder.
The old phone shows 2.4 (of 16) gig of storage available.  The new 5S 3.4.
So, is there a way to get all the pictures moved over, in iTunes, the Cloud or otherwise?  Can the photos on the old phone be synced to iTunes to then be synced to the 5S?

Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
Import the photos from the Camera Roll on your old iPhone with your computer. You can place all photos in one folder on your computer or create multiple photo albums or folders for select photos.
Under the Photos tab for your new iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, select the newly created folder or folders or photos that were imported from your old iPhone followed by a sync to transfer the photos from your computer to your new iPhone.

  • Problem Importing Photos from Aperture 3 into iPhoto '11

I store my photos in Aperture 3, but import them into iPhoto to create calendars, cards, etc. I usually work with RAW or high resolution JPG images in Aperture. However, when I import these into the new iPhoto '11, it automatically converts my RAW images into very low resolution images (e.g., 100-200k instead of at least 1-2MB). I cannot seem to find an option to change this. This was not a problem with the old iPhoto. To import, I start in iPhoto, then click "Show Aperture Library", then drag my photos/folder. I would like to have an option to import images as RAW files, or just high res JPGs.
I know I can export my Aperture images to the desktop, then import them into iPhoto for a temporary fix, but that is such as hassle, especially since iPhoto and Aperture are supposed to work well together. Thanks for any suggestions!

Aperture creates preview images that contain all the adjustments you've made to the master image. These previews are what is shared with other apps such as iLife or if you drag and drop an image out of Aperture to another app or the Finder.
The size of the previews is controlled in Aperture Preferences. Open Aperture Preferences and click on the Previews icon at the top. In the bottom of this dialog there is a popup menu titled "Photo Preview". This is the setting that controls the size of the image Aperture shares with iPhoto. Change this setting to the size you want.
But wait, you're not done yet. Changing this setting does nothing until a new preview is created in Aperture. If you right click an image in Aperture there is a menu item near the bottom named "Update Preview". But what you really need is "Generate Preview". Right click the image and then hold down the option key and you'll see "Update Preview" change to "Generate Preview". Choose "Generate Preview" and a new preview will be created using the new size setting you made in Preferences. You need to do this for each and every image you wish to share at the larger size. You can select multiple images before selecting the "Generate Preview" command to speed things up.
Now when you share an image from Aperture to iPhoto the new larger file will be used. The advantage of smaller previews is your Aperture library will also be smaller but the trade off is what you get in other apps that are using your images.

  • Problem importing photos from iphone 4s into iphoto

With iphone 4s, the phone syncs fine with our imac.  All photos on computer sync onto the phone with no problem.  However, iphoto will not import any photos off the phone onto the computer.  It seems like it is hung up on two images (1 a video) that we ended up deleting off the phone yet iphoto.  It was working fine until iphoto tried importing the video.  Now, all later photos taken with phone will not import.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Get the PhotoSync app in the app store and it will easily send your photos to your computers (and viceversa).  It's a highly rated app and works great.  Here's their webpage: http://www.photosync-app.com/photosync/en/home.html.

  • Problem Importing photos from Canon Rebel XTi -- Iphoto '08

When I plug in USB cord to camera and MacBook, then turn on my Canon Rebel XTi, iPhoto opens up but will not read the CF card. The status light on the camera just blinks red as if it working on it but it never does show the photos in iPhoto08 and the camera doesn't show up on the sidebar either although it used to but doesn't anymore.
I know that my CF card is ok because when I use it in my Canon Powershot S400 it works fine, and I'm able to import photos fine.
    Help please?

Thanks, I'm fairly certain that WILL work since the card works with iPhoto in my other camera fine.
I don't have a card reader and I'd like to figure out how to fix the problem I have with my Rebel XTi. Any suggestions on that?

Look in your Home/Library/Library/Quicktime folder to see if you have Flip4Mac and/or Perian installed.  If so move both the the Desktop, reboot and try again.
NOTE: In Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Problems syncing photos from iPhone to iPhoto

I have an iPhone 4 installed with iOS 5.0.1. I also have a slightly older version of iPhoto (I believe it's one generation behind; whatever that is). Prior to updating my iPhone to either iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1 (I didn't check between updates) I used to be able to sync my photos FROM my iPhone into iPhoto. I can no longer do this and Apple has no idea what the problem is?!?!
iPhoto appears as though it's going to start syncing photos but then does nothing except gives me a big white screen; almost like it doesn't recognize the phone. I've tried deleting the photo cache and nothing. I've tried calling Apple support and nothing.
Can anyone help me with this, as it is very inconvenient to keep emailing photos to myself. I assume the issue has to do with the iCloud folder and iPhoto doesn't know what to do with the iCloud photo. Of course Apple has to understand this is an issue before it will be fixed, if I am correct.
    Suggestions?

Since iPhoto syncing is not working for you right now and you need to replace your phone, consider transferring your pictures wirelessly to your computer using and app like PhotoSync.  Also be sure to back up your contacts as they are not fully backed up as part of the iPhone backup.  Either sync them to a service such as Google or use an app like My Contacts Backup (which will back up your contacts as an attachment to an email that your send to yourself and can later be used to import your contacts to your new phone).
