Problem when trying to move icons on desktop
Hello experts,
I have a macbook Air with OS X 10.9.2.
I have a problem when I try to move any icon on the desktop.
To move an icon I need to select it, and drag it to the new positon, it then returns to the same position, after iff I unselect it and select it again, it apears on the position I drag it before.
could any one give me some help about this?

Take these steps if the cursor changes from an arrow to a white "prohibited" symbol when you try to move an icon on the Desktop.
Sometimes the problem may be solved just by logging out or rebooting. Try that first, if you haven't already done it. Otherwise, continue.
Select the icon of your home folder (a house) in the sidebar of a Finder window and open it. The Desktop folder is one of the subfolders. Select it and open the Info window. In the General section of the window, the Kind will be either Folder or something else, such as Anything.
If the Kind is Folder, uncheck the box marked Locked. Close the Info window and test.
If the Kind is not Folder, make sure the Locked box is not checked and that you have Read & Write privileges in the Sharing & Permissions section. Then close the Info window and do as follows.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
xattr -d com.apple.FinderInfo Desktop
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You should get a new line ending in a dollar sign ($). Quit Terminal.
Relaunch the Finder.
If the problem is now resolved, and if you use iPhoto, continue.
Quit iPhoto if it's running. Launch it while holding down the option key. It will prompt you to select a library. Choose the one you want to use (not the Desktop folder.)

Problems when trying to move 3 stepper motors
Hello,
I am having problems when I try to build a program to control 3 stepper motors.
I have 3 steeper motors and the controller (3 SMCP33 + SMCP33-EVA) from nanotec.com they provide also a Vi example to control one motor that works successfully but the problems come up when I try to adapt the program to try to run the 3 motors. The final application for that is going to be a Cartesian robot XYZ so eventually I will need to program coordinates to move the 3 motors.
I am new in LabVIEW so what I am doing is trying to adapt the nanotec example to control the 3 motors doing the following.
- I assign each motor a different address, doing that I can run each motor separately. But when I try to run 3 programs at the same time, they work but all of them move the same motor (the first that was run).
- If I try to do a kind of subVi the same thing happens, only one motor is driven.
- Furthermore, I get back a warning when I try this, I enclose a screenshot of that.
I enclose the Vi and screeshots to enhance my description.
I woul be grateful if someona can aport some help.

Thank you for replying. Enclosed is a picture where can be seen the motor address. This case is for motor 1, for motor 2 would be number 2 and 3 for motor 3. It works if I run the programs one by one. Anyway I enclose the generic example without any manipulation by myself.

Problem when trying to move files with NSFileManager
Hi there folks.
I am trying to use some very simple code here to move a folder into another folder on my (or a user's) computer. I have used this code before, but can't for the life of me pinpoint the issue here.
This is the code that I am using:
NSString *fromParent = [@"~/Desktop/Images" stringByExpandingTildeInPath];
NSString *toParent = [openPanel filename]; //this is the result of the user's selection in an NSOpenPanel
[[NSFileManager defaultManager] moveItemAtPath:fromParent toPath:toParent error:&error];
When I look at the Console, the error returned from the attempted move is this;
"Error = Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=512 UserInfo=0x15e65500 "“Images” could not be moved to “rickyd”"
I'll also add that there is not an issue with the folders/files I am using, as I have also tried numerous other folders/files.
Although I understand this information is pretty brief, I'd really appreciate and help you guys could lend me here.

Ricky.Yes, you're correct. The toPath needs to not yet exist.
I forgot I had to specify the complete file path of the directory after the move would have occurred.
E.g - instead of having ~/Documents, I need to have ~/Documents/Images.

Problems when trying to move a paragraph with a heading to the next page
When i try to move a paragraph with a heading (generally style 2) to the next page by pressing the enter key, rather than the whole paragraph moving to the top of the next page it moves to pretty well every where but the top. i have attached a video because im sure what i have said doesn't make much sense.

i have talked to an apple technician through apple care and we came to the conclusion after reseting iwork to default settings still with no changes all i could do was completely remove iwork from my computer and try to start over. Or come to the forums to see if there is a work around.Hi Jared,
Without commentary, or other explanation, it's difficult to determine what actions you are taking to produce the results in the video.
In the first instance, it appears that you have placed the insertion point at the beginning of the line following the header, then pressed and held return. this action pushes that line (and anything below it) down until it crosses the page boundary and jumps to a second page. That's expected behaviour.
At approximately 0:57, you have deleted the return characters, returning the first and second lines after the header to a position immediately following the header. The insertion point is then moved to the point at the beginning of the header line, and returns are inserted as before. About 1:04, a number of unreadable alert boxes appear. At 1:07, the second line below the heading moves to the second page, followed by the first line, then by the heading itself at about 1:10. Again this is expected behaviour.
Only after that are there any 'odd' behaviours, and without knowing what actions you are taking to produce those oddities, it's (at least) difficult to say what is causing the results you see.

Drag and drop not working. When trying to move a cell or icon the shadow of the cell or icon being moved appears under the cursor but can't be released causing a freeze of function within the program. Happens in finder numbers, firefox, and when trying to move any file from the downloads folder.
This is a serious pain.
Please help.

A PDF file was filed in DOCUMENTS, when trying to move this PDF file to trash I got the response: "Operation can't be completed because the item ..... is in use".
How do I get this document deleted from the system?The suggestion to move items from documetns to desktop and then moving to trash is the one that worked.
I have now one other question and that is that during my strugle with the original problem I called with Apple helpline and there they suggested to move the application "Preview" to trash and then the issue would be solved. I did so but clearly the issue was not solved.
Bottom line is that with your solution I got rid of the PDF files, but I still need to reinstall the Preview application. Do you have suggestions how to do that?? -
I am having the problem when trying to take a panorama picture.
It may only take the first frame or doesn't even start at all when I press the shutter button.
even though when i hold the phone straight up and down, so that camera is at the top on the back and the home button is on the bottom on the front.
This problem is irritating me....?To take panorama
- ensure that the panorama option is on
- press the shutter button once
- you will see a line with an arrow
- move around in a circle ( I keep the camera steady and turn myself around in a circle)
- as you do this you will see the arrow moving across the screen as it captures pictures
- at the end of the capture, you will be able to see your panorama picture

Using Lightroom 5.5 and Photoshop CC2014. Images no longer open in Photoshop when using "edit in" command. Photoshop opens but no image when trying to move between LR and PS. Any suggestions?

2. The Icons on your dock are Aliases not real apps
They point to where the apps really are which is:
For Pages 5.2.2 in your Applications folder
For Pages '09 in your Applications/iWork folder
3. You are alternately opening documents randomly with either version of Pages
Both Pages have the same file extension .pages and there is no certainty as to which version opens them when you double click on a file.
right click on the file and choose which version you want to open it
4. Pages '09 can not open Pages 5 files
Pages 5 can not open Pages '08 files, and will convert and change Pages '09 and Word files.
It will also auto save opened files into its own format.
You can export these back to Pages '09 if you need to:
Menu > File > Export > Pages '09
5. Yes Pages 5.2.2 is a marked downgrade
Pages 5.2.2 has a few improvements but has had over 110 features removed and is buggy.
Sooner or later you will not be able to open a file or have it damaged in some way and it has a complex obscure file format largely incompatible with everything else, so you will not be able to rescue the contents of your file. If Pages or some third party server/eMail don't trash your file, eventually Apple will do it for you as it did when it released Pages 5 last September. I recommend using Pages '09 for the time being whilst you look for viable alternatives, some are here already and some are on the way.

Back-up software always seemed to have some kind of a hiccup to it, but I'll certainly look into Tri-Backup3/4. I used to Retrospect years ago, a rather fussy thing if I recall.
Now, on the Safe Mode boot - not a success BUT a different result!
I got the -36 again, but this time it was the external drive FILE that errored, not the OS-resident drive.
In other words, pre-Safe Mode the error said "...because some data in "ZillaHAL" could not be read or written." (ZillaHAL is my OS-X drive).
In Safe, it read, "...because some data in "WinXP Pro.vmem" could not be read or written."
"WinXP Pro.vmem" is the virtual machine file - which basically is a simple Mac volume (folder) containing all of the files to run my XP virtual machine.
Also, this time, a file* did manage to remain on the external drive whereas before, after the error, no file at all remained.
* a generic icon appears, but it shows a size of 16+GBs. The actual file is 18.13GB - I did manage to shrink it down the other day (from it's previous 25GB).
Well, that's it for now. I'll be away for three days, so don't mind me if I cannot reply back for a spell.

How do i deactivate a device through icloud if the device is broken and i am unable to turn on find my iphone? Also i do not own a apple id as ive been using a family members due to problems when trying to make one?

I am using Lightroom 5 and am hapy about it, but recently I hav encountered a problem when trying to edit an image in another program, i.e. Elements. I used the clone tool, saved the result and went back to Lightroom to open the image there. I did find a second copy, but this is identic with the one I already had in Lightroom, and I can see noe result of the clone process.
At the moment I would say it is uncertain whether Acrobat is completely ignoring the change, or whether the changes you are making aren't affecting the ink density. I have a suggestion for a test you could make to see which is the case.
When editing in Photoshop just add a box or mark on the image, for your tests.
- If this box does not appear in Acrobat, you know Acrobat is not seeing the edit
- If this box does appear in Acrobat, you know the problem is that your tool for changing ink densities is not taking effect. -
