Problem with 1-to-many relationship between entity beans

Hi All!
I have two tables TMP_GROUP and TMP_EMPLOYEE with following fields:
TMP_GROUP: ID, CAPTION, COMMENT, STATUS.
TMP_EMPLOYEE: ID, LOGIN, GROUP_ID.
For this tables i create two entity beans GROUP and EMPLOYEE respectively.
The relationship looks like this
descriptor ejb.xml:
<ejb-relation>
            <description>description</description>
            <ejb-relation-name>employeesOfGroup</ejb-relation-name>
            <ejb-relationship-role>
                <ejb-relationship-role-name>com.mypackage.GroupBean</ejb-relationship-role-name>
                <multiplicity>One</multiplicity>
                <relationship-role-source>
                    <ejb-name>GroupBean</ejb-name>
                </relationship-role-source>
                <cmr-field>
                    <cmr-field-name>employees</cmr-field-name>
                    <cmr-field-type>java.util.Collection</cmr-field-type>
                </cmr-field>
            </ejb-relationship-role>
            <ejb-relationship-role>
                <ejb-relationship-role-name>com.mypackage.EmployeeBean</ejb-relationship-role-name>
                <multiplicity>Many</multiplicity>
                <relationship-role-source>
                    <ejb-name>EmployeeBean</ejb-name>
                </relationship-role-source>
            </ejb-relationship-role>
        </ejb-relation>
descriptor persistent.xml:
<table-relation>
               <table-relationship-role
                    key-type="PrimaryKey">
                    <ejb-name>GroupBean</ejb-name>
                    <cmr-field>employees</cmr-field>
               </table-relationship-role>
               <table-relationship-role
                    key-type="NoKey">
                    <ejb-name>EmployeeBean</ejb-name>
                    <fk-column>
                         <column-name>GROUP_ID</column-name>
                         <pk-field-name>ejb_pk</pk-field-name>
                    </fk-column>
               </table-relationship-role>
          </table-relation>
Now i implement business method:
public Long addEmployee(String login, long groupId) {
          Long result;
          try {
               EmployeeLocal employee = employeeHome.create(login);
               GroupLocal group =
                    groupHome.findByPrimaryKey(new Long(groupId));
               Collection employees = group.getEmployees();
               employees.add(employee);
               result = (Long) employee.getPrimaryKey();
          } catch (CreateException ex) {
               result = new Long(0);
          } catch (FinderException ex) {
               result = new Long(0);
          return result;
When i call this method from web service, the following exception is raised:
com.sap.engine.services.ejb.exceptions.BaseTransactionRolledbackLocalException: Exception in method com.mypackage.GroupLocalHomeImpl0.findByPrimaryKey(java.lang.Object).
P.S.
1) I have transaction attribute set to "Required" for all methods of all beans
2) I have unique index for each table:
TMP_GROUP_I1: CAPTION
TMP_EMPLOYEE_I1: LOGIN (however i think GROUP_ID must be added here too)
3) I tried many:many relationship with this tables and it works fine
4) I try another implementation of addEmployee method with
EmployeeLocal employee = employeeHome.create(login, groupId);
without using GroupLocal cmr-field and GroupLocalHome findByPrimaryKey method, the result is same error.
Can somebody help me with this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards, Abramov Andrey.

1: The @JoinColumn on the listOfDepartments collection in Company is wrong. It should be something like this for a bidirectional relationship:
@OneToMany(mappedBy="company") // company is the matching property name in Department
private List <Department> listOfDepartment = new ArrayList<Department>();Note that I removed the fetch configuration; onetomany is fetched lazy by design. Saves some clutter eh.
2: use a Set in stead of a List (hibernate doesn't like lists much in entities and will break when you create slightly more complex entity relations)
3: don't just slap cascades on collections, especially of type ALL. Do it with care. In the many years I've been using JPA I've only had to cascade deletes in very specific situations, maybe once or twice. I never needed any of the other cascade types, they just invite sloppy code if you ask me. When working with persistence you should apply a little precision.I made all changes as you mentioned but still compID in department table shows null value...

  • Problem with a 1:M relationship between two entity beans

    I am having trouble trying to implement a 1:M relationship between two EJB2.0 entity beans using and EJBQL query. I have an ApplicantEJB, which contains a collection of phone numbers. The applicant table in the database has one primary key, applicant_id. The applicant_phones database table has a compound primary key--applicant_id and phone_type_id--so I have implemented a custom PK class to represent this, PhonePK. I have implemented a findByNameAndPhone method in my ejb-jar.xml file with the following syntax:
    SELECT object(a) FROM applicants a, applicant_phones p where a.applicantID = p.applicantID and a.name = ?1 and p.phoneNumber = ?2
    If I deploy this, Orion/OC4J translates the query in the orion-ejb-jar.xml with an incorrect reference to the applicant_phones.applicant_id column:
    SELECT a.applicant_id FROM applicants a , applicant_phones p WHERE ((a.applicant_id = p.applicantID ) AND (a.name = ?) AND (p.phone_number = ? ))
    I must have something wrong with the ApplicantEJB and PhoneEJB primary key mappings in my orion-ejb-jar.xml file, but I have tried many different combinations of values and keep getting them overwritten by the container with each deployment. Why is Orion/OC4J defaulting the applicant_id reference to the ob[i]Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

  • Many to many relationships between Fact and Dimension

    Hi All,
    I have to solve two kind of many to many relationships between Fact and Dimension.
    1. Many to Many relationship between Fact and Dimension, using a bridge table, with FKs in fact and dimension to bridge table’s PK.
    2. Many to Many relationship between Fact and Dimension, using a bridge table, and an intersection table, with FK in fact to bridge table, and 2 FKs in intersection table to Dimension and to bridge table.
    I need help on implementing (how the mapping has to look like) them in OWB 9.2.0.2.8.
    Thanks,
    Aurelian Cojocaru

    Aurelian,
    Unfortunately, you cannot implement this in the dimensional model. You would have to use relational tables and relationships between those in order to implement your scenario.
    Thanks,
    Mark.

  • ONE-to-MANY relationship between tables and forms in APEX

    I recently started using APEX and I have run into an issue.
    I have a ONE-TO-MANY relationship between two tables, A1 and A2, respectively.
    A1:
    A1_ID
    Item
    A2:
    A2_ID
    SubItem
    A1_ID
    I have 2 forms (lets call it F1 and F2) that I use to capture data for A1 and A2.
    On F2, I have the following fields that are setup to capture data:
         A2.A1_ID
    **A1.Item (this is a drop down that is populated using a SELECT statement where the select uses A1.Item field)
         A2.SubItem (user would enter SubItem)
    Note: A2.A2_ID is populated using a SEQ
    Everytime I pick **A1.Item on F2, is there a way to link to A1 table and display A1.A1_ID for every **A1.Item selected on F2?
    If so, I want to store the value captured in F2 for the A1_ID field into A2 table to maintain my 1-to-MANY relationship.
    If this will work, how do I go about implementing this solution?
    Can someone help me?

    I think it sounds like you are asking for a Master-Detail form. Try that and see what you get.
    chris.

    Is it safe to use programs like MacKeeper, who keeps send my wife's computer message and alerts, or should I just wipe the drive and start over?

    I beleive the migration tool missing the cmr-filed mapping for the oneClassAForManyClassA relation role.
    but even if I add this mapping it still can't pass the verifiy.
    So do I miss any thing or I can conclude S1 not support this one-to many self relation?
    Any hint would be welcome.

    It does.
    There is a known problem with parsing self-referenced relationship info - the one side (with <multiplicity> Many) must be the first in the <ejb-relation> entry.

  • Problem mapping a 1:M relationship between two entity EJBs w/ a compound PK

    I am having trouble trying to implement a 1:M relationship in OC4J 9.0.3 between two EJB2.0 entity beans using an EJBQL query.
    SELECT a.applicant_id FROM applicants a , applicant_phones p WHERE ((a.applicant_id = p.applicantID ) AND (a.name = ?) AND (p.phone_number = ? ))
    I must have something wrong with my ApplicantEJB and PhoneEJB primary key mappings in my orion-ejb-jar.xml file, but I have tried many different combinations of values and keep getting them overwritten by the container with each deployment. Why is Orion/OC4J defaulting the applicant_id reference Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

    Sure. Here's the <entity-deployment> for my applicant entity:
    <entity-deployment name="ApplicantEntityEJB" location="ApplicantEntityEJB" table="applicants" data-source="java:/OracleDS">
    <primkey-mapping>

  • EJB 2.0 RI, CMR, problem with one-to-many

    I got an entity bean with a one/many, bidirectional, non-cascading relationship to another entity bean. The "one" side is represented by the remote type of the related entity bean.
    The "many" side is represented by the type "java.util.Collection".
    Unfortunately, the Verifier spits out the following error for the "many" side:
    Error : Invalid type assigned for container managed field [ depots ] in bean [ Account ]
    "depots" is defined in AccountEJB.java via the abstract contract
    [import java.util.Collection;]
    public abstract Collection getDepots();
    public abstract void setDepots(Collection depots);
    Q1. Is there anything wrong with this?
    Q2. Does the currect J2EE RI 1.3 beta support CMR as defined in the draft2 of EJB 2.0?
    Q3. Do I need to mark the CMR fields as CMP 2.0 ("fields to be persisted") in the Deployment Tool? I'd say yes, but if I would be picky, CMR would not be CMP...
    Q4. Can anyone point me to a good example of CMR. The PetStore App uses BMP everywhere, and I could not find any other useful demos.
    I'd appreciate any help!
    Greetings,
    Andreas

    I am new to J2SDKEE1.3 CMR. I have similar question about CMR. The only example is the "customer" under the J2SDKEE1.3 doc fold. Can anyone provide more examples?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi, below is my data model for SSAS 2008 on snowflake schema.
    Below is SQL Server DW tables:
    DimStudent - StudentID [primarykey], StudentName, DateOfBirth, AddressID
    DimStudentAddresses - AddressID [primarykey], StudentID [foreignkey], ddressLine1, AddressLine2, AddressType
    FactEnrolment - StudentID, EnrolWeek, EnrolFees
    So here FactEnrolement.StudentID is joined to DimStudent.StudentID column,
    and relationship between DimStudent & DimeStudentAddresses is one to many I.e. one student can have multiple addresses like primary or secondry address.
    To design snowflake schema in SSAS 2008 BIDS project :
     [Question-1] how to join one-to-many dimensions (NOT fact table) Like DimStudent & DimAddresses?
     [Question-2] At the end I want to have a single dimension only I.e. Student which should have both DimStudent & DimStudentAddresses tables attributes init. So I can create hierarchy from these two table into a single dimension? How
    to do this?
    Please reply with feedback particular to my above scenario as I refereed other MSDN forums but nothing solid I found.
    Any STEP-BY-STEP guideline please. Many thanks.

  • Find many-to-many relationship between two columns in one query

    Hi All,
    How can I run one query to determine if Column1 and Column2 in the following table have a many-to-many relationship?
    Column1
    Column2
    Column3
    b
    x
    s
    b
    x
    t
    c
    x
    s
    c
    y
    s
    c
    y
    t
    Just by eyeballing it, we know there is, but in a real life situation, you cannot eyeball millions of records to make that decision.
    I am using Access 2007.  (SQL script that works with Access 2007 will be great, but script for SQL Server will be fine too.)
    BI Analyst

    Hi BI Analyst,
    Take a look at this code:
    IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb..#experiment') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE #experiment;
    CREATE TABLE #experiment (c1 CHAR(1), c2 CHAR(1), c3 CHAR(1))
    INSERT INTO #experiment (c1,c2,c3) VALUES ('b','x','s'),('b','x','t'),('c','x','s'),('c','y','s'),('c','y','t')
    SELECT c1, c2, c1+c2 AS bind,
    COUNT(c1) OVER (PARTITION BY c1+c2) c1perbind,
    COUNT(c2) OVER (PARTITION BY c1+c2) c2perbind,
    COUNT(c1+c2) OVER (PARTITION BY c1) bindsperc1,
    COUNT(c1+c2) OVER (PARTITION BY c2) bindsperc2
    FROM #experiment
    What your question asks is if there can be determined a many-to-many relationship. A many-to-many relationship is logical relation comprised of a pair of one-to-many relationships. The code above shows you which relational pairing occur in these one-to many
    relationships. c1perbind (or c2) >1 indicates a one to many relation from that relational pairing, whereas the bindsperc1 indicates how many relations the individual c1 belongs to.
    Now look at this code:
    SELECT c1, c2, bind,
    COUNT(c1) OVER (PARTITION BY c1+c2) c1perbind,
    COUNT(c2) OVER (PARTITION BY c1+c2) c2perbind,
    COUNT(bind) OVER (PARTITION BY c1) bindsperc1,
    COUNT(bind) OVER (PARTITION BY c2) bindsperc2
    FROM (SELECT DISTINCT c1, c2, c1+c2 AS bind FROM #experiment ) Q1
    With the subquery reducing the set for the windows to operate on to distinct pairs the bindsperC1 and bindsperC2 will show count greater than one if they belong to a one-to-many relationship. When both are greater than 1 those rows are proof that the relationship
    between C1 and C2 is a many-to-many.
    If you're happy and you know it vote and mark.
