Problem with a String[] variable

Hi
I'm reading values from a table and I need to store them in a String[] variable.
This example shows I would do it without accesing to the database: String[] data = new String[] {"a","b","c"};
Now, I want to do the same thing but reading it from a database table. I do know how to read each value from the table, the problem is that I'm not sure on how to concatenate the values in the string[].
Thank you all in advance =)

int count = triptypeDataProvider.getRowCount();

triptypeDataProvider.cursorFirst();
do {
triptypes[row] = triptypeDataProvider.getValue("triptype.name").toString();
row++;
} while (triptypeDataProvider.cursorNext());
} catch (Exception ex) {

  • Comma problem with global string variable

    Hi,
    I'm fiighting with comma problem for global string variable. I've on page string for example "7nndqrr52vzyb,0" and by dynamic column link I'm assigning this string to global variable. Then I'm trying to display value of that global variable on another page but I see only string till comma, nothings more. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong because when I'm trying to assign that value normally by computation process as a constant value is fine and see on another page correct string. I'll be really glad for help.
    Thanks
    Cheers,
    Mariusz

    When it tries to display the string, it sees the comma and wants to believe the string is terminated. You could escape the , in the string or replace it with a different character..

  • Problem with output string to command

    hey i have no idea why this aint working
    its a simple output string to command.
    what it is supposed to do is make a new directory given by the input string
    e.g. mkdir /home/luke/dep
    thanks for the help
    //methods input save files
         saveFile = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Save Files To : ");
         //method command for saving files
         //Stream to write file
         FileOutputStream fout;
         try { Process myProcess = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("mkdir" + saveFile );
          InputStreamReader myIStreamReader = new InputStreamReader(myProcess.getInputStream());
          fout = new FileOutputStream ("file.txt");
          while ((ch = myIStreamReader.read()) != -1) { new PrintStream(fout).print((char)ch); } }
              catch (IOException anIOException) { System.out.println(anIOException); }

    What you fail to understand is that "aint working" and "Problem with output string to command" tells us absolutely squat about what your problem is. This is the same as saying to the doctor "I'm sick" and expecting him to cure you. As mentioned by Enceph you need to provide details. Do you get error messages? If so post the entire error and indicate the line of code it occurs on. Do you get incorrect output? Then post what output you get, what output you expect. The more effort you put into your question the more effort others will put in their replies. So until you can manage to execute a little common sense then the only responses you will get will be flames. Now is your tiny little brain able to comprehend that?

  • Problem with a string method

    Hello, I am working on a program that converts Roman numerals to Arabic numbers and the opposite. I have the Arabic to Roman part down, yet Roman to Arabic part is causing troubles for me.
    I know that there are many solutions out there, yet I would like just solutions within my code that would fix the problem it has.
    Instead of the whole code, here's the method that changes Roman to Arabic.
         //method to convert Roman numerals to Arabic numbers
         public static int toArabic (String x)
              int arabica=0;
              char chars;
              for (int y=0; y<=(x.length()-1); y++)
                   chars=x.charAt(y);
                   switch (chars)
                        case 'C':
                             if( x.length() == 1)
                                  arabica+=100;
                                  y++;
                             else if (x.charAt(y+1)=='M')
                                  arabica+=900;
                                  y++;
                             else if (x.charAt(y+1)=='D')
                                  arabica+=400;
                                  y++;
                             else
                                  arabica+=100;
                             break;
                        case 'X':
                             if(x.length() == 1)
                                  arabica+=10;
                                  y++;
                             else if (x.charAt(y+1)=='C')
                                  arabica+=90;
                                  y++;
                             else if (x.charAt(y+1)=='L')
                                  arabica+=40;
                                  y++;
                             else
                                  arabica+=10;
                             break;
                        case 'I':
                             if(x.length() == 1)
                                  arabica+=1;
                                  y++;
                             else if (x.charAt(y+1)=='X')
                                  arabica+=9;
                                  y++;
                             else if (x.charAt(y+1)=='V')
                                  arabica+=4;
                                  y++;
                             else
                                  arabica++;
                             break;
                        case 'M':
                             arabica+=1000;
                             break;
                        case 'D':
                             arabica+=500;
                             break;
                        case 'L':
                             arabica+=50;
                             break;
                        case 'V':
                             arabica+=5;
                             break;
    There's a problem with this, however, is that whenever I put something in like XX, CC, XXX, or II, the program says
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: 2
    at java.lang.String.charAt(String.java:687)
    at RomanNumerals.toArabic(RomanNumerals.java:172)
    at RomanNumerals.main(RomanNumerals.java:33)
    I think this problem is caused by the if-else and else-if statements in my method for cases C, X, and I, as this problem doesn't come up when I do similar things to cases without the if statements. Could you perhaps find out what is causing this problem? I've been working on it for days after finishing the rest and I can't figure it out.
    Thanks

  • Problem with BW exit variable on range of dates

    Hi everyone:
    I have a problem with exit variables in BW, the scenary is following:
    I need to generate a ratio MTD (month to date, i mean, first day of the month to actual date), for this, I enter a date by keyboard, for example 31.12.2010 and BW must return the range 01.12.2010 - 31.12.2010. The problem is what BW returns: 31.12.2010 - 31.12.2010, i mean, repeats the same date entry by keyboard.
    For this porpuse I have a variable of interval type called "ZCALDAY" on infoobjeto 0CALDAY, and  exit variable of interval type called "ZRANGE", the code in CMOD is the following:
    DATA: L_RANGE         TYPE RRS0_S_VAR_RANGE,
                L_P_RANGE   TYPE RRS0_S_VAR_RANGE,
                L_S_RANGE   TYPE RSR_S_RANGESID.
    when 'ZRANGE'.
         BREAK-POINT.
         IF I_STEP = 2.
           CLEAR l_s_range.
           READ TABLE i_t_var_range INTO loc_var_range WITH KEY vnam = 'ZCALDAY'.
           CONCATENATE loc_var_range-low(6) '01' INTO l_s_range-low.
           l_s_range-high = loc_var_range-low.
           l_s_range-sign    = 'I'.
           l_s_range-opt     = 'BT'.
           APPEND l_s_range TO e_t_range.
        ENDIF.
    I doing Something wrong with the variables definition or on the  code??
    I hope you can help me....
    Best regards!!!!
    Cesar.

    Thanks!!
    I think the problem is other, I check the RSRT transaction and the range is calculated ok, i mean, the range generated is 01.12.2010..31.12.2010.
    But the query does not show the data corresponding. the query shows the values of the day 31.12.2010.
    The interval are not restricting the key figure...
    I used the variable exit "ZRANGE" on the key figure restriction and the variable ZCALDAY in the filters section.
    Maybe, the variable definition is wrong (variable ZCALDAY and exit variable ZRANGE)
    Thanks!!!

  • Problems in Handling String Variables with Pro*C

    I have a Pro*C program that select one record from a table. Although I don't have any NULL values in this record, I got the following error:
    ORA-01405: fetched column value is NULL.
    This problem only accurs when I try to retrieve[b] characters. Everything works fine when I handle numbers.
    I also tried to use indicators with the output value from the query. Another error was returned:
    ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error.
    I am not sure wheather the problem is from my program or some configuration of the environment or the client.
    The database (Oracle 9i) is in a remote machine, and I am using Oracle Client (9i) in my machine running Tru64 OS.
    The code that I am using is as follows:
    EXEC SQL BEGIN DECLARE SECTION;
    int db_classId;
    char db_neId[101];
    EXEC SQL END DECLARE SECTION;
    EXEC SQL SELECT class_id, ne_id INTO :db_classId, :db_neId
    FROM NE_ROUTE WHERE ne_id like 'BA%';
    Can anyone help on this issue? Is it something to do with NLS_LANG parameter?
    I just want to note down that all queries work fine with SQL Plus

    Hi,
    I used different select statements as you suggested, but I still get the same error. I also changed the statement to make sure it doesn't return a NULL value.
    I tried the following cases
    1. EXEC SQL SELECT 'name' INTO :db_neId FROM DUAL;
    and I get >> ORA-01405: fetched column value is NULL.
    2. EXEC SQL SELECT NVL('name','name2') INTO :db_neId FROM DUAL;
    and I get >> ORA-01405: fetched column value is NULL.
    3. EXEC SQL SELECT 'name' INTO :db_neId :ind_ne FROM DUAL;
    and I get >> ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error.
    I haven't try to change the precompiler options yet. The program is very simple as I only use to test the connection with the database. I am just trying to retieve any character from the database.
    Any suggestions?

  • Problem with windows and variable in smartform

    hi guru,
    i create smartform for printing tax document and found problem.
    1)
    i create layout in form like this.
           {Main Window}
                     <<<< Data to print
           <<<< secondary Window
             <<<< secondary Window
    with many data in table, so this form will take 10 page up to print. i found and showed in every page.
    in my solution *i want to display and on last page after {Main Window} Only*. how to resolve this.
    2)  follow to 1st question, can i place position of each window in dynamic?  +like 's position is under {Main Window} 2 cm.+ instead of specific position left margin , upper margin *or should i create other page and place and .*
    3)  i create 2 variables  (sum1 type p , sum2  type p ) for keep sum of  tax in table that show in each page and write it at end of each page. i want to clear data in these 2 variables when system create new page and start to keep sum of value again. i create program line node under {Main Window} after but don't know which code or syntax to write.how to code this?
    regards,
    Kittisak.

    1) On the 'Conditions' tab of your WIndow3 & WIndow4 just click the check box
    'Only After End of Main Window'. It will always be printed at the last after your main window is finished.
    2) And if you don't want your window3 & window4 in a fixed place than instead of new windows do the same thing inside your main window creating a new template or anything as per your requirement and place it after your main table.
    3) For clearing the fields, do it like this, in the program lines write the code below:
    IF G_PAGE NE SFSY-PAGE.  " declare g_page with initial value '0'
        CLEAR field1.
        CLEAR field2.
        G_PAGE = SFSY-PAGE.
      ENDIF.
    With luck,
    Pritam.

  • Problem with host string

    hi
    i am new here
    2 days ago i was finish my database administrator course.-it mean that is the first course from 6(as much i know)
    first you should know that english is not my lang so if i will maskes i am sorry
    anyway after i am talking about me i will talk about my problem
    i am trying to connect to sqlplus
    after i click on this tool i get
    user name:
    pass:
    host string:
    i know that i need to go to the file tnsnames.ora and take from there the host string
    i did that and after the parameter "host=" i saw the host string name.
    after i did that i tried to connect with sysdba but without pass cuase if i conn with sysdba i dont need pass
    in "host string " i write the host string accurding to the tnsnames.ora ang it doesn't work
    as aresult i get a line that ask me the pass what sould i do?
    tasks to all of you![b]

    "Host string" entry to connect through SQL*Plus is the SID entry from the tnsnames. Not the parameter host=...
    This is the first parameter, something else like the following :
    DEMO92 =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =...The host which you said is the hostname which is the host of the database, not thedatabase itself.

  • Problem with printing one variable in one line in smartforms

    Hi,
           Please help me.  It's my first time to use smartforms, and my problem is that I am trying to print one variable on one line and I just don't know why the variable splits and prints the other half on the next line.  On my paragraph format, I only chose the "Left-aligned" as my alignment choice and line spacing as one.  I used a character format for the variable just to make it bold.  The width of the window is 19.9cm.  Please, really hope someone could help me.  Thanks.

    Yes.  There are actually 3 variables on that window:
    SURNAME   <E1>&wa_surname(C)&</>
    FIRSTNAME <E1>&wa_fname(C)&</>
    MIDDLE NAME <E1>&wa_midname(C)&</>
    The variable for the firstname is the one being split to the next line.  It's like half of the firstname is combined with the middlename as shown in the example:
    FIRSTNAME    FIRST
    MIDDLE NAME NAME MIDDLE NAME
    When it should be:
    FIRSTNAME    FIRST NAME
    MIDDLE NAME MIDDLE NAME
    Thanks.

  • Problem with customer exit variable that is input ready as well

    Hello all,
    I'm facing an issue with a customer exit variable that again has been defined as input ready. I'm not sure why it is working incorrectly and I#m wondering if this is a bug or if I do s.th. stupid.
    The problem is that in the exit program ZXRSRU01 this varibale does not go into the program code I have prepared for this variable. I have added entry points for all three i_step values 1,2,3, but the code will never be touched and in debugging I can see that it simply pypasses the code for this variable.
    I have tried to enter a value or to leave it blank, no difference.
    When I run another test by just using a customer exit variable w/o input ready capability, then I have no issue, the exit does exactly what I have coded.
    Does this mean, that a customer exit variable along with input readiness dows not work ?????
    You may ask why I need this variable. Well, my intention is to use the input value of this variable A to derive other values for a complete different variable B. Afterwards I want to erase the input given into variable A to have it blank.
    Any comments are appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi Heiko,
    I assume A & B variables are defined on different Characteristics. If you wish to derive B based on A, you can create the Query Characteristic Restriction on B & have a dummy RKF restricted on A whose processing is by Manual Input; where processing of B is by Customer Exit. In istep 2 you can check for B, read A & derive B. There would not be a need to blank out A since the Query would not be restricted on A - you can hide the dummy RKF from showing in the output. Just a thought.

  • The problem with the strings Convert each other

    Hello all,
      Could you help me to solve the following problem using LV7.1? Thank in advance.
      How can I convert a string of "hexadecimal value" with Normal display style to other string of " the same hexadecimal value" with Hex display style?
    Best regards,
    Evan_Lv

    Hi Evan,
    look at the attachment
    At the moment there is no error checking (any characters other than (0-9|A-F|a-f) will give an error; only even number of chars is converted). You can do the error checking as an exercise on your own!

  • Problems with static member variables WAS: Why is the static initializer instantiating my class?!

    Hi,
    I have been hunting down a NullPointerException for half a day to come to
    the following conclusion.
    My constructor calls a method which uses static variables. Since an intance
    of my class is created in the static block when the class is loaded, those
    statics are probably not fully initialized yet and the constructor called
    from the static block has those null pointer problems.
    I've considered moving the initialization of the static variables from the
    declaration to the static block. But your code is inserted BEFORE any other
    code. Therefore not solving my problem.
    Two questions:
    1) what would be a solution to my problem? How can I make sure my static
    variables are initialized before the enhancer generated code in the static
    block calls my constructor? Short of decompiling, changing the code and
    recompiling.
    2) Why is the enhancing code inserted at the beginning of the static block
    and not at the end? The enhancements would be more transparent that way if
    the static variables are initialized in the static block.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
    JDO calls the no-args constructor. Your application should regard this constructor as belonging
    primarily to JDO. For example, you would not want to initialize persistent fields to nondefault
    values since that effort is wasted by JDO's later initilization to persistent values. Typically all
    you want to initialize in the no-args constructor are the transactional and unmanaged fields. This
    rule means that you need initialization after construction if your application uses the no-args
    constructor and wants persistent fields initialized. On the other hand, if your application really
    uses constructors with arguments, and you're initializing persistent fields in the no-args
    constructor either unintentionally through field initializers or intentionally as a matter of
    consistency, you will find treating the no-args constructor differently helpful.
    On the other hand, if Kodo puts its static initializer code first as you report, then it is a bug.
    Spec Section 20.16: "The generated static initialization code is placed after any user-defined
    static initialization code."

  • Problems with Date bind variable

    I'm trying to use a Date as a bind variable in a View Object, and I'm running into difficulties. I've got the bind variable type set to date, and the control hints for Format Type and Format set to "Simple Date" and "yyyy-MM-dd" respectively. When I run the application module test and enter the date in the correct format, the View Object returns the expected results. However, when I try to set a Query Bind Parameters property for a JHeadstart group in my application definition in order to set the bind variable's value from an dateField input control, I get the following exception:

    at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:595)
    However, it seems that the value of the bind parameter did in fact change, according to the debug message issued by the JhsApplicationModuleImpl.applyBindParams(...) procedure:
    30-Jan 08:46:23 DEBUG (JhsApplicationModuleImpl) -ViewObject ViewObj: value of bind param move_date has changed: old value=null ,new value=Wed Jan 07 00:00:00 CST 2009
    One thing I have noticed that may be of interest - if I run the debugger into the JhsApplicationModuleImpl.applyBindParams(...) procedure, a default date in my bind variable shows up as an oracle.jbo.domain.Date object when it comes out of the following line:
    Object oldValue = vo.ensureVariableManager().getVariableValue(key);
    as opposed to the new value that gets sent from the input value of the dateField control, which shows up as a java.util.Date in the following line:
    Object value = args.get(key);
    In the string of functions leading up to the following in the stack trace:
                   at java.sql.Date.valueOf(Date.java:104)
    at oracle.jbo.domain.Date.toDate(Date.java:348)
    at oracle.jbo.domain.Date.<init>(Date.java:279)
    it looks like the value of the java.util.Date is converted to a string, then passed to these functions to be turned into a java.sql.Date object. However, according to the java.sql.Date.valueOf(...) function, it's expecting date in "yyyy-mm-dd" format, per the header comments:
    * Converts a string in JDBC date escape format to
    * a <code>Date</code> value.
    * @param s a <code>String</code> object representing a date in
    * in the format "yyyy-mm-dd"
    * @return a <code>java.sql.Date</code> object representing the
    * given date
    * @throws IllegalArgumentException if the date given is not in the
    * JDBC date escape format (yyyy-mm-dd)
    When the input value from the dateField input control is added as a java.util.Date, the toString() is producing the wrong date format, which could be seen in the debug output I included above that said the bind variable has changed.
    Has anyone done this before that can let me know what I am missing and how to fix this? I've search all over the web, and all the articles I've seen relating to bind variables only refer to those of numeric or string types, which aren't giving me any trouble. Even the Developer's Guide (http://database.in2p3.fr/doc/oracle/Oracle_Application_Server_10_Release_3/web.1013/b25947/bcquerying009.htm) article "5.9 Using Named Bind Variables" doesn't reference using a Date type.

    I had the same problem about a year ago (using JHeadstart 10.1.3.2.52):
    15-feb 14:10:31 DEBUG (JhsApplicationModuleImpl) -Search item matches query bind param SubjectenKernPeildatum, value set to 2000-01-01
    15-feb 14:10:33 DEBUG (JhsApplicationModuleImpl) -Executing applyBindParams for BasServiceKern.AdresRollenSubjecten
    15-feb 14:10:33 DEBUG (JhsApplicationModuleImpl) -ViewObject AdresRollenSubjecten: value of bind param peildatum has changed: old value=null ,new value=Sat Jan 01 00:00:00 CET 2000
    15-feb 14:10:33 ERROR (ErrorReportingUtils) -java.lang.IllegalArgumentException
    at java.sql.Date.valueOf(Date.java:104)
    at oracle.jbo.domain.Date.toDate(Date.java:348)
    It appears a java.util.Date gets put on the criteria Map in the searchBean, this can't be used as input for a jbo.Date bindvariable.
    My ugly solution was to override public void applyBindParams(String voUsage,HashMap args)
    in MyProjectApplicationModuleImp (which extends JhsApplicationModuleImpl of course),
    check if value is a java.util.Date, and then
    value = new java.sql.Date(((java.util.Date)value).getTime());

  • Problem with a string

    Hi,
        I have a report (made with crystal reports) in wich I have embedded a xcelsius dashboard.  I am passing string values to that dashboard using a crosstab (I am forced to do this that way due to programming and database limitations).  Examples of those string would be :
    15426, 1000, 34567, ...
    In my xcelsius model, i then extract each of the values to separate columns and use them to populate a table. I use FIND and MID functions to do so.  I then get the following
    CELL A1 : 15426
    CELL A2 : 1000
    CELL A3 : 34567
    CELL A4 : =A1A2A3+A4
    When i hit preview, i get all the values in my table exept the cell A4 value... its like xcelsius cant make the calculations passed a certain level .....
    I tried to copy/paste the string directly in my xcelsius model with same results...
    Thanks for your help guys
    PS: Sorry for my real bad english... I tried my best to explain my problem...

    hi ,
    i have also same problem, in my case alll value are string type, now i want to change them in numeric in excel but i am not getting correct answer.
    i tried a lot method, but they did not work, then i multiply every field with 1 and then add them in this case its showing value result but some time the result is wrong. i can findout whats the problem.
    can anyone suggest how to change value from string to numeric in excel or what should i do.
    regards,
    PIyushGahlot

  • Updated to CR 2008 - now have new problem with truncated String fields.

    Hi there
    I'm hoping someone has a simple answer for this one...  notice there's a lot of it on forums but I haven't found an answer.
    Since updating to Crystal 2008 (Crystal 12), we have found that some reports are suddenly truncating string fields at 255 characters, despite the field value being much longer in the database.
    Does anyone know what to do to allow these fields to print in completion?
    Database connection is ODBC RDO.
    regards
    -Karen

    What is the database Oracle, SQL server etc.
    Can you query the database directly with another query tool, eg SQL Server Management Studion or SQL developer/Toad for Oracle.
    You can then run the Crystal query directly and see if its your ODBC connection that is truncating the datafield or Crystal.
    I have memo fields on SQL server with up to 2000 characters and these display in Crystal 2008 without any problem. We use ODBC (RDO) too.
