Problem with application directories on JDS - Solaris 10 11/06 sparc

I am running a fully patched JDS on a Sun Blade with Solaris 10 11/06 sparc.
After installing, removing, and re-installing Sun Download Manager 2.0 (web start version) I am having problems with JDS application menus.
I used File Manager (probably accessed through the This Computer Desktop icon) to move around directories under applications:///. This information is saved in ~/.gnome2/vfolders. Folders available from the Launch menu under Applications were all messed up, but I solved this problem by removing all contents of ~/.gnome2/vfolders and restarting JDS.
Now, when I enter the This Computer icon on the Desktop, and click on the Applications icon in there, there is an extra Applications icon there that is not associated with any application and cannot be removed (when I try and trash it, I get an error saying something about "not on same file system"). Also, when I enter the Internet folder under Applications, there is an extra Internet icon in there that also cannot be removed. These extra folders are not seen when accessing the Applications menu from the Launch menu. How can I clean up these "bad" launchers, or folders, or whatever they are, that appear to exist only under the Applications directory accessible through This Computer (computer:///)?
Thank you...

Maybe the answer is here:

To Add a Menu Using Menu Files
To add a menu for all users, perform the following steps:
1. Create a directory entry file for the item that you want to add. Create the directory entry file in the /usr/share/gnome/vfolders directory. For more information about directory entry files, see Directory Entry Files.
2. Locate the vfolder information file for the location where you want to add the menu. For example, to add a menu to the Applications menu, locate the file /etc/gnome-vfs-2.0/vfolders/applications-all-users.vfolder-info.
3. In the vfolder information file, add a <Folder> element for the new menu. For more information about vfolder information files, see Vfolders and Menus.
The next time users log in, the menu is in the assigned location.

  • Having network profiles is causing so many problems with applications

    Perhaps someone could explain this to me, because i must be doing something wrong.
    We have 10.4.6 client machines, and a 10.4.6 server. They login and their profiles are on the server and accessed via AFP, ok all is well there.
    But ever since Tiger (Panther never had this problem) having network profiles causes so many problems with applications. Here are just some examples:
    1. MS Office 2004 programs will sometimes say all the system fonts are corrupted when they are not. The only way to fix this is to log the user out and delete the Microsoft preferences folder from their network profile from the server. Doing it from the client doesn't work unless you get them to logon in safe boot.
    2. Office 2004 will also randomly not save documents or autorecovery files, claiming that "too many files are open" or that the disk is full, when their profiles have 100s of megabytes left.
    3. Safari will randomly stop working. When you load up Safari it will load up websites all distorted, and then eventually give up and force quit. The only way to fix this is...again deleting the Safari preferences from the server whilst the client is logged off.
    4. Adobe Photoshop files will randomly corrupt, causing "End of file" errors when files are opened.
    Now i've narrowed it down to the basic fact that the clients are using network profiles via AFP. I've experimented them logging onto the server and using local profiles and the programs all work perfectly. My setup is exactly the same as it was on Panther, and panther had none of these problems.
    Surely i am not the only one who is experiencing this?

    Do you have the "Inherit Permissions" option via POSIX access enabled for the home directory share point? If so, disable it, as home directories need standard POSIX permissions.
    I've seen some problems with third-party applications - namely Adobe CS2 - when using network homes mounted via AFP. Others have reported problems with Office 2004. There are other oddities, even observable in the Finder, mostly due to changes that enabled metadata (Spotlight) for AFP. However, never have I seen Apple applications like Safari not work correctly with network homes; thus, there might be another problem here.
    I'd check the filesystems for all volumes on the server using Disk Utility and repair any damage found.
    You may want to consider using Portable Homes for better compatibility with Office 2004 (unfortunately).

  • Problem with Application server

    Hi All,
    I'm facing problem with Application Server. When I installed the appserver and started it.. It started with the message " server has been started and some services will run at back". But when I tried stopping it using the stop default server i got the message that there is no server running but when i saw in the task manager i cud see two process running 1) appserver.exe and 2) imqbroker(something).exe so eventually I had to kill it.
    Now when I'm trying to start the application server again its giving me this message "CLI156 Could not start the domain domain1" and below is the log file attached if its of any help

    Thanks in advance

    The VERY FIRST message in the server log gives you a hint as to what the problem might be. The server thinks you have spaces in your PATH to the application server. Therefore, the solution is to kill the server however you need to (task manager, whatever) and then reinstall it in a path that doesn't contain spaces. That's the low-hanging fruit here; if that doesn't work, well, then we will have to find some other solution.

  • Problem with Application Server Portal 9.0.2.0.1.

    I have a problem with Application Server Portal and Wireless 9.0.2.0.1.
    Firstly I've installed the infrastructure on a Pentium 3 866Mhz 512Mb of Ram, with Windows 2000 Server (Italian) service pack 2.
    I've maintained all predefined settings and I've chosen the UTF8 character set.
    After installation, my infrastructure and OID works fine. The OID has port 4032 (as set by Oracle Universal Installer) instead of predefined 389.
    After this I've installed Application Server Portal and Wireless on another host: a Pentium 3 733Mhz 384Mb of Ram, with Windows 2000 Server (Italian) service pack 2.
    I've also maintained all predefined settings and automatic configuration of Portal and Wireless. I've pointed to my Infrastructure.
    Try to test the Portal demonstration but an error occurred:
    "SERVICE TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE. The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later."
    On my EM Console I see: component instances 'OC4J_Portal' and 'OC4J_Demos' are UP, instead 'Portal:portal:7777' is down.
    On the component lists I've clicked the link of component instance Portal:portal:7777, the 'control services' and 'Accessible Server SSO' are started, while 'Accessible Portal Repository' is down.
    What can I do to get my portal started?

    hi,
    i have exactly the same problem. did you solve yours?
    any suggestions or help how to do it?
    thanks

    If you have followed the standard Apple troubleshooting processes (see user guide )
    probably a trip to the local Apple Store Genius bar is called for before warranty runs out
    Assuming the iPad has been released in your Country if not you may have to take it to a
    neighbouring Country where it is available

    Hi Shauneenb,
    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    If you are having issues with multiple applications becoming unresponsive I would suggest the steps in the following article, including starting in safe mode.

    Did you change any AppleID accounts or anything?  I've seen this happen when changing accounts or certain restore situations.
    If you are using iCloud you should be able to reset your phone to Factory Defaults and restore from iCloud, but it always makes me nervous.

  • How can I synch my iTunes?  If often says unknown error or problem with application?

    I have problems synching my iPhones 4s with my MAcbook pro (10.8.2) and iTunes (11.0.1).  I can connect my iphone 4s(6.0.1) directly to my macbook pro or via the same network.  I can start the synch via itunes or my phone.  20% of the time it works.  If often says unknown error or problem with application. The software is up to date. What can I try?  Thank you

    The iphone/ipod is NOT a storage/backup device.  Not maintaining a backup copy is a big mistake.
    You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone/ipod to your computer:
    Authorize your computer for all accounts and then click  File>Transfer Purchases

  • Backup problem with LMS 3.0 on Solaris

    Hi All,
    I'm encountering problems with LMS 3.0 when I try to do a backup. After you hit OK on the window that says "Do you want to backup now?", an error would pop up saying: "Enter a new directory name or ask the system administrator of the Ciscoworks Common Services server to make the directory accessible to user casuser", thus I cannot proceed with the backup process. When I do backup, my login privilege is admin. Even tried to do backup on the same partition as my CSCOpx directory but to no avail.
    Appreciate your help on this guys. Our LMS 3.0 runs on Solaris platform. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Joe,
    Thanks for your prompt response. By the way, what is a casuser? Is he also one of the user that can be found on the Local User Setup on Common Services? The scenario here is that, I am not the one who installed the Ciscoworks LMS 3.0 on the client side, so I am not aware on how they did the installation procedure for the application. I remember assigning casuser password during installation on our other clients that has LMS 3.0.
    Will the write access on the backup directory for the casuser be done by the Solaris root administrator?
    Thanks for your help.

    I think the installation of planning on Vista is difficult. As some of the files doesn't support even i am tired of doing that.
    But tell me one thing have you installed all other products , I mean Essbase, (server, client) , AAS and Shared services.
    Are they working good .
    I have formatted my system to XP and installed everything , but the problem is when i install planning it prompts me that IIS 5 should be greater other wise EPM will not install...
    there are lot of things with planning 1) i can't datasource as it is not highlighting when we configure with Shared services
    2) It does not create product instance .
    If any one can fix this thing by giving me a suggestions.
    Advance Thanks

    }catch(Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    public ForexService(){
    initAPI();
    logonResult = api.Login(userName, userPassword, 0) ;
    System.out.println("Rezultat logowania: " + logonResult);
    checker = new Checker(this);
    new Thread(checker).start();
    @WebMethod
    public String getLogonResult() {
    return new Integer(logonResult).toString();
    @WebMethod
    public String getServerList(){
    return api.GetServerList();
    I'm using event listener which was attached to Java Sample in
    documentation.
    public class IVT_APIEventsAdapterExtended extends
    IVT_APIEventsAdapter{
    private VT_API api;
    public IVT_APIEventsAdapterExtended(VT_API apiInstance) {
    api = apiInstance;
    public void
    OnInstrumentChange(IVT_APIEvents_OnInstrumentChangeEvent e)
    super.OnInstrumentChange(e);
    System.out.println("instrument change - " +
    e.get_InstrumentID());
    public void
    OnNewServerMessage(IVT_APIEvents_OnNewServerMessageEvent e)
    super.OnNewServerMessage(e);
    System.out.println("Server message :" +
    api.get_ServerMessages().get_Items(e.get_MsgID()).get_Text());
    I've problem with listening events incoming from forex server. When I
    run Wireshark(Network Protocol Analyzer) I can see that events income
    to my computer (on different ports - for example: 2070, 2071, 2072),
    but don't income to Sun Java Application Server. I suspect that server
    don't listen on this ports, but how can I fix this? Maybe should I
    choose a other server? I've tried also Tomcat -with similar result :(
    Regards,
    Peter
    //Sorry for my english :)

    Thank you very much for the reply :-)
    We have been fiddling with the platform on many levels yesterday, and one thing we did do was bump that value up from 1024 to 8192... This made a HUGE improvement in ensuring the platform now holds the live streaming connections. (up to 8000 per edge)
    I think for other future reference and to aid other people that might run into this problem in the future, its a good idea to increase this value.  From what we have seen, read and heard, that default value is fairly conservative, its suppose to grow when the load demands it, however, if you have a large scale of connections coming in at once from multiple locations, it can happen that it grows too quickly which can result in the application to be reloaded (which disconnects all users, i.e. all edge servers connected to this origin).
    Another option we were recommended to modify was the following :
    In adaptor.xml you currently have this line:
    <HostPort name="edge1" ctl_channel="localhost:19350" rtmfp="${ADAPTOR.HOSTPORT}">${ADAPTOR.HOSTPORT}</HostPort>
    You can set this to
                    <HostPort name="edge1" ctl_channel="localhost:19350" rtmfp=":80">:80</HostPort>
    <HostPort name="edge2" ctl_channel="localhost:19351" rtmfp=":1935">:1935</HostPort>
    This will create two edge processes for both ports 80 and 1935. Currently both ports are served from the same fmsedge process.
    Of course this is not a huge performance improvement, but should further distribute load over more processes which is a good thing. Especially when there are that many connections.
    This setting can be made on all machines (origin + edge)
    Hopefully this could help other people also running into the same problems we have seen ...

  • Problem with Application Loader

    Hi,
    I'm trying to submit an iPhone application to iTunes using the Application Loader on a Mac Mini (OSX 10.5.8). After I enter my iTunes Connect login details I receive the following error response
    *There is a problem with you login information*
    Please click back and try again
    An error occurred talking to the iTunes Store
    The login details are correct, the device connects to the itunesconnect web site from Safari without issue.
    Is anybody else experiencing a similar issue? Anybody have any ideas on how I might resolve this issue. It's really frustrating as this is now the only way to get an App into iTunes and the error message is not exactly giving me a lot to go on.

    I got a message in an email saying I had the wrong binary code and therefore had to change it by downloading the application manager.
    This was the email they sent me?
    Some potential reasons that your binary is invalid: the binary icon doesn't meet our requirements, the payload directory is set at the wrong level in the .app wrapper, the bundle version has not been increased, and so on.
    You will receive an email detailing the reason for your invalid binary. To clear the error, log in to iTunes Connect, locate your app, and click Ready to Upload Binary to reset your app's status to Waiting For Upload. This will allow you to redeliver your corrected binary through Application Loader.
    Makes no sense to me either!
